Review4x4 Trailhawk V-6 has excitement and passion.
Owned many SUVs like Tahoes, X5, ML and original 87 Cherokee.
Drives like a luxury vehicle, refined, comfortable, fast, powerful.
Interior design, materials, fit and finish and seat design first rate (better than Grand Cherokee).
Interface screen, nav and controls (with backup) is very intuitive and the best in the business.
Love exterior and interior style including front end.
Blacked-out trim on a white Trailhawk with black hood trim is awesome.
Passing power is totally appropriate for the situation with partial-throttle downshifts (9-speed does not mind skipping a gear).
Low RPM at any speed.
Uses regular 87 octane gas.
Best FeaturesStyling, engine, interface screen and navigation system. Fit, finish and materials. Pace setting vehicle. The "Jeep purists" are having a cow, but this is 2014 and they need to "get over it". Drove from Bend, OR to Banff, AB and back in five days on 60% snowpack including passing trucks on two-lane at night while snowing. The traction control light did not "flash" once during the entire 2,200 mile trip. Perfect vehicle for in-town commuter, long range traveler and winter sports hawler. Confidence inspiring. No problems to report in nearly 5,000 miles. Looked at Edge, Explorer, Outback, A5, 500L, Mini Countryman, Equinox and Grand Cherokee..and the 2014 Trailhawk is a winner!
Worst FeaturesGas tank is too small for this kind of vehicle. Realistic mileage with 4x4 V-6 with a light-to-moderate throttle and not more than 10 mph over the speed limit is 19 overall; 23 on highway with an egg under your foot, and 17 in town....barely 290 miles range at best with 15.8 gallon capacity. Storage cubbies in doors are designed for bottles only, tilted an angle. No real room for maps or newspapers. No memory seats available on Trailhawk. Factory splash guards need to be made available. Vehicle will not shift into 9th gear under any circumstances I've tried....cruises in 6th and 7th most of the tried 75 mph downhill and still no 9th gear. Manual shifter has a mind of its own.
