It's just not possible to go 100
feet in my S2000 without breaking into
an ear-to-ear grin that lasts for hours
after leaving the car.
This is truly, by design, a racing
car. The S2000 does not really handle
like a car--it's somewhere between a go-
cart and a motorcyle. The engine is
perfectly satisfactory up to 5000 RPM
for driving in even stop-and-go
traffic. From 5000 to red line at
9000, you go into warp drive.
I missed buying a Porsche Speedster
and a 356SC, I turned down a great deal
on a 289 Cobra, and I passed on a Lotus
Super 7. They are all in the S2000
with the reliability of a Honda. I
will keep this car for the rest of my
only for the sadist on anything longer than a 15 minute trip
no heated mirrors
no concept of sound deadening (don't try more than 35 with a cell phone even with top up)
Quick if revved right/dog if not (153 ft lb of torque even though 240 horse)
Ever wonder why you see so many of these advertized used even though only 5000 of these made per year?
Turfed this one out for vette, lost my shorts on it but my best descision with this car was cutting it loose.
I love this car. Not very practical
for a daily driver but what a blast to
drive! This car drives so much better
than a Z3 M6 handling, acceleration,
shifting, looks. People always stare
when they see this car. Even Porsche
owners look and feel a twinge of
Just picked up my 2002 S with silver/black. What a car! I have owned a '97 328i and '00 540i, and I can tell you that the S is the most fun of the three (with much lower maintainance costs). The engine is a blast, but the suspension is what puts it over the top. Cornering at 40 mph is dream, interior is minimalist and slick. I am sick of paying the status prices according to BMW, Mercedes and Audi. They do make excellent cars, but nothing they make in a roadster can touch the S (having driven the M roadster, SLK, and TT). If you love to drive, this is the car.
Simply put, this is the real deal. A true sports car that isn't for the timid. If you aren't willing to drive a car, and I mean drive a car, then look elsewhere. Those looking for wood interiors, heated seats, and traction control shouldn't look at the S. However, if you enjoying wringing a car out and the satisfication of getting a corner correctly and heal toe shifting, than this is your dream car.
