BEWARE - Take a long test drive before buying one

2014 Honda CR-V LX 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 5A)

I was excited on purchasing a brand new CRV, but the short test drive did not reveal this crossovers shortcomings. After a month and 2K miles, below are my observations:
1) Harsh/bumpy ride - you feel each and every road crack, unless the road is not freshly laid, the ride is tiresome
2) Too much windnoise - went to the dealer twice, but they mentioned that it is the characteristic of the vehicle. The door seals/insulation is not very good
3) Too much road noise on certain road surfaces
4) The stereo is a joke, my 15 year old second car has better sounding stereo and speakers
5) Seats are not comfortable - lack of thigh support on rear bench and front seat headrests tilt way too forward

Best Features

Backup Camera and rear fold down seats

Worst Features

- Better insulation to reduce wind and road noise. - Better padding and seat comfort - Better Suspension tuning to make it a more compliant ride - Improve the quality of the radio - it is a serious letdown

I agree completely with sasi42389 above. Couldn't agree more. I bought a new 2014 CRV EX-L and after 3 months and 3K miles I came to the same conclusions except for the radio. The EX-L radio upgrade is good. To mitigate the road noise I had to insulate the doors and whole flooring, firewall to rear, with a b-quiet sound deadening material. That helped a lot but did not completely cure. Next I have to try doing the wheel wells. Wind noise is still a pain. I just drove a 600 mile round trip and found I was tired afterwards from the noise and seating comfort. As a comparison, I once did the same trip in a rental Altima and found I could still go dancing! In contrast my wife loves the car and notices nothing. For me the CRV is fine for short trips, puttzing around town but for long trips and touring, for-get-about-it. What's important to You in a car? To each his own.
