I have had the car 22 years, only summer driven but for 1 day. My winter beater was in the shop for a new water pump and had to drive the Del Sol in the snow to work. Not ideal. The weight ratio is very even front to back with full tank of gas. The ratio is great in the corners but not good keeping the front driving wheels on the pavement in 3 inches of snow. The only thing I have had replaced after 115k miles is a oxygen sensor and a clutch (due to lack of use while in storage 6 months of the year). Dumped the original tape player back in 2001. Made it 112k miles on original brake pads with miles to spare (seriously!). The rotors are still good. Upgraded to ceramic pads last year. Started on her 3rd set of tires last summer. Original exhaust. She is certainly no Porsche, but still turns and handles very well, especially with 1/3 tank of gas in it. Yes it maters. A very short throw on the 5 speed manual. 1994s had leak issues with targa top, but never had an issue with this on my 1995. Also, the car has big blind spots due to roll bar design. The A/C is like a freezer and heater is like an oven due to the small space in the cabin as the A/C/heat is meant for a larger internal volume Civic. If you are having extra fun at 90+ mph on a hot day with top off or unique back window down, recommend running the heater to help the engine stay cool. At 100+ mph the car gets very light in the front and steering can be hazardous. She never got it over 110 mphor the car would become short lived P38 Lightning at take off with 4 wheels. I always wonder what the car would have been like with rear wheel drive. Del Sol beats the Miata in trunk and internal space. Also the roll over bar is a huge safety advantage and keeps the car stiff without a regular roof for structural support. I think the Honda 2000 is a better handling car, but lack of a hard top is not ideal for upper mid-west spring and fall driving. My wife will have to pry my dying hands off the car to get rid of it (or maybe double the blue book if I do up grade to an unreliable Porsche or a Acura NSX). I have owned a CRX, Civic, CRV, Accord, over the years. Can any other manufacturer build a car this reliable after 22 years? Honda does not will style points like European sports cars, but if they have oil in the engine, they will get you to your destination and have some fun on the journey.
The Del Sol not once, but twice, sucked in a plastic bag or newspaper through its front intake which overheated the engine to the point of the block cracking. I loved my Del Sol, but if you buy these cars, you'll have to watch out for this serious design flaw the car has. If I were to purchase another, I would specifically be making alterations to avoid this catastrophe.
Tell me you like this car after you have it overheating crossing the George Washington Bridge, or in tears, throw down $3k on a rebuild, only to watch the rebuild die the same way in less than a year.
This car is spectacular. It gets fantastic gas mileage, and is the second most fun car I've driven (first is a Miata). The targa top offers the ease of a soft top with the benefits of a hard top. It has a very good amount of pick-up, but there is only so much a 1.6L engine can do. It definitely out-accelerates other little 4 cylinders though. It takes turns amazingly. The suspension is stiff, which may be a disadvantage to some, but I count that as a plus. I have only had it for about a month, so I can't say much for reliability, but from my research there is very little that goes wrong with these. If you get one, try your best to get the VTEC model, because it is worth every penny.

Clutch is very light, and it slips into gear perfectly.
Very easy to drive and/or learn manual on.
Pretty fast, not the fastest, but definitely enough to get you in trouble.
When you don't wanna go fast, it gets better gas mileage than today's "economic" 4 door sedans.
Back window rolls down.
The single best feature, as it can be used without taking the top off, and it is even nice to use in 20 degree weather.

The cupholders, while present, are not the greatest.
They work fine, but they can occasionally get in the way.
Seats are a little hard to get in to, definitely doable though, don't pass on this car just because of that.
The interior light is kind of sub-par, due to the fact that it must be located farther back since the targa top roof is in the way.
Don't own it any more, but overall a very fun car to drive. Interior space is limited to two seats, but there are lots of storage spots and the truck is surprisingly large for a car of this size. Sporty looks and with some minor modifications this car handles like its on rails. Not very fast straight line. Didn't have any issues with car until around 115,000 when I got rid of it. 2nd gear or the synchro was gone and it would not shift in or out of 2nd, no other issues and this was likely due to driving the car hard. Overall fun, reliable car.
