Fun Vehicle
I just love my 2006 Freestyle. It's a fun car to drive and the CVT makes for a smooth and pleasant ride. There is tons of room with plenty of seating options. Great for someone with kids, pooches and/or travelers. Gas mileage is very good, interior features are convenient, AWD gets you easily out of mud or snow, higher seating makes for better visibility. It makes driving fun again. If you can afford it, get the GPS system which I find myself using not just for trips but also local travel. If you are looking for a fun and practical vehicle, I highly recommend the Ford Freestyle.
Great styling, comfort, & reliability
I have had my Freestyle for 7 months. I really love the styling because it gives you the ride of a car but the feeling and styling of an SUV. There is plenty of interior room and comfort. The 3rd row seat is suitable for an adult. The stadium seating allows my kids to see the exterior view without being blocked. I always get remarks about what a great looking car it is. Most people are surprised by the room inside. The car is very sturdy and the cabin is sealed tight so that there is minimal exterior noise. I couldn't be happier with the Freestyle.
Great car!
I had the first year Windstar, and we traded it in on the last year Ford made Windstar. We traded that Windstar in on the Freestyle this year. I'm a mother of two teenagers. And we are all comfortable in it along with dog, husband and stuff. I especially think this time the overall quality seems superior to the Windstar. The Freestyle feels more solid, safe, and still is a kick to drive. I like it on the highway and found that if I really needed to accelerate, the car would for me.
No Problems at 49K
Purchased it new, mostly hauling stuff and occasional people. Only problem was the brake recall. Only service - minor front end work, new tires (too early, imho) and regualr services when the change oil light comes on. I did buy the extended service from Ford, so I hope the tranny fails before 75K if it does at all. Oh and if you drive it carefully you can get 25+mpg on the highway at 65mph. I know because I have done it.
Too small
Like all SUVs and derivatives, built for small people. Center console (much too wide) seriously interferes with driver's legroom and knee. Maybe not a problem if you are 5"2', but it makes the car plain uncomfortable on longer drives for tall people. Seat comfort is mediocre, acceleration is poor (especially with 4 people in the car and/or any weight in the back). Needs more powerful engine and less clutter (get rid of the center console for a start).
