2006 Ford Five Hundred SE 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl CVT)

Review

This is a fleet vehicle supplied by my company. I drive it regularly, a mix of highway and city miles. Though a definite improvement from the Taurus, still not up to the level of quality of the better Japanese cars. Examples: (1) Hood has to be slammed to close. Don't have to do this if build quality and clearance is correct, but I have to slam the hood hard or it won't latch. Unacceptable. (2) Grinding and creaking noises in steering/suspension. This began shortly after purchase, in cold temps. Now happens regularly. I'm sick of buying imports but will have to until Detroit makes quality their number one goal. I likely would not buy one; if so, only if it was really cheap.

Best Features

Variable transmission seems to improve mileage. Power curve is a little unusual, but seems to accelerate well. Car handles very well in the snow with Continental all season radials.

Worst Features

Rear seats should fold down. Improve fit and finish. MP3 input on stereo. Suspension and undercarriage does not appear to be well built and seems to be falling apart after 25k miles.

2006 Ford Five Hundred SEL 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 6A)

Review

I really enjoy driving this car. It handles well and is a very comfortable ride. The gas mileage is very good both in town and on the road.

Best Features

Leg room in back seat and trunk room. Design of car.

Worst Features

Increase engine power. Improve radio. Change dash design to eliminate glare on windshield on bright days

2006 Ford Five Hundred Limited 4dr Sedan AWD (3.0L 6cyl CVT)

Review

I bought this car at the end of the 2006 modely year and have enjoyed it a lot. The car is very comfortable and fun to drive. Excellent handling in snow and wet conditions. I am a bit disappointed with the mileage, but I can live with what is delivers. The big issue is that it has had problems starting in the last month. Five times now I have jumped in and it won't start. I had it towed last week but the service desk could not find the problem. It failed to start yesterday when I was running errands. fter 20 minutes it did start and I took it back for service. I am very unhappy with this reliability issue. Ford has enough problems.

Best Features

Seats are very comfortable. HVAC is excellent. Navigation system is extremely useful. Huge trunk. AWD is fantastic.

Worst Features

Improve the mileage. Fix the rear view mirror visibility problem - about 1/3 of the view is blocked. This is inexcusable. I almost did not buy the car because of this poorly engineered mirror location.

2006 Ford Five Hundred Limited 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 6A)

Review

The car isn't designed for tall people to drive. Can't tilt the steering wheel to see fuel, temp. gauges. Not good tilt system. Not enough leg room. When seat is all the way back arms are extended so far you're tired when you drive very long. The car wanders. Trunk is too heavy, hard to open. Hood has prop. Trunk light isn't located good and times off to soon.

Best Features

Comfortable to ride in. Lots of room in back seat. Gets good mileage for size of car

Worst Features

Needs better tilt and telescoping steering column. Move trunk light, take off timer.

2006 Ford Five Hundred Limited 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 6A)

Review

I purchased mine last July. I have just over 9,000 miles now and it has never been back to any dealership. Two synthetic oil changes and one air filter. Most comfortable and reliable. The only reasons I'd buy new!

Best Features

Everything came in twos. The moonrood/cd changer, the merlot metallic/black leather interior, Pirellis on 18" rims, cream guages & clock/faux burled accents, steering wheel controls, roomy front and rear and trunk! Engine compartment easy to service.

Worst Features

If you take a Porsche designed liquid- cooled V-6 quattrovalve engine, mate it to the same 6-speed tranny built by a division of Toyota that's also in the Mini Cooper, and mount them onto a Volvo platform what improvement would I want? A RWD V-8 400HP Five Hundred Limited priced like the Pontiac GTO.
