Used 2020 Ford Explorer Limited 4dr SUV AWD (2.3L 4cyl Turbo 10A) Consumer Reviews
Transmission Fell apart
Downshifts would jerk so hard that passengers were jerked forward. Lots of noise. Needed to be rebuilt. Later, the AWD module failed, just when the 5-year warranty expired. This vehicle barely has 24,000 miles, despite being 4 years old.

Comfortable entry and exit after hip replacement
If you have trouble getting in and out of your vehicle, or 2013-2019 Explorer, then go check out the 2020 Explorer. I am 6-1” and after the hip replacement I could not get into a 2018 as my leg is too stiff. The change to rear wheel drive has increased the wheelbase dramatically (but not the length). This has allowed much bigger door openings and incredible front row legroom. Of course the rear wheel drive has improved the handling, and made the vehicle quieter. It’s making great gas mileage for me, over 28 including a mountain pass both ways. It’s beautiful. I have gotten many compliments. The only negative so far is that the backup camera at night makes everything an overexposed washed out white. I missed a road I was trying to back into as I simply could not see it at night. So far the automatic wipers, automatic dimming and lane sensing are without fault.

Not impressed
Recently drove a limited for about 300 miles in San Jose and Monterey CA. I was excited when handed the key, but that faded fast, very fast. This SUV was a chore to drive and unsatisfying. Wind noise from the side windows and a near constant rattle from the sunroof took away from the enjoyment. The seats were comfortable once you worked the power adjustments to get everything just right and the power adjustable tilt and telescope steering wheel really helped. My 13 year old daughter had no complaints about the second row. The ride, to us, was awful on anything but The smoothest pavement. My wife called it “floaty” I thought it was stiff and jarring. The steering and the multitude of driver aids drove me nuts. The steering was numb, imprecise and devoid of feel. Plus, I felt like I was fighting the lane-keep assist at times. I suppose more time with the car and learning how to turn features on or off and adjust them could help.

I wanna love it... but I can’t.
So basically I’ve had this SUV for 2 weeks and received it with 9 miles on the odometer. It is a Ford Explorer Limited, MSRP of $49,000 with a turbo charge 2.3L. I want to love it, I really really do. But I’ll get right into and won’t keep you waiting as to why I don’t. I’ll start with pros first. Pros: Convenience, ease of use. The seats are extremely easy to move Voice guided navigation is great, no glitches so far. The radio is easy to use, love the touch screen feature. It’s very zippy and pretty ok on gas considering I drive very often (780+ miles in 2 weeks of use) My family fits in it nicely... Ok.. now for the cons. Cons: Accelerator is extremely sticky and touchy at the same time. You will feel EVERY SINGLE BUMP or crack on the road, I feel like I’m a pinball. The gas tank is NOT vented enough, every time I go to pump it pops back at me unless I hold it half way (really?! My 2017 Chevy Impala had the same problem which was RECALLED). The brakes are way way way too sensitive, if I press them a tiny bit it slams to a stop. When it downshift it takes way to long and slams into gear (NOT DRIVING ON MANUAL) When it shifts up it hesitates I went to switch lanes with my turn signal on and the car kept trying to “steer” me back into the other lane, a dangerous glitch. If there is any rain or water in general near the back up sensory it beeps super loud. Now that I have almost 800 miles on it, my SYNC system takes 1-2 full minutes to load up. This is annoying when I’m in a hurry to take my son to a appointment. I am incredibly disappointed with it being a 4 cylinder, that alone is not worth 50k let alone 30k! For almost 50k I don’t want to hear the engine, it’s loud and not in a good way at all. I love a loud vehicle (like a supercharged mustang or a beefed up diesel) but this? No thank you. The third row is almost inaccessible. I can’t even put my kids back there, not even worth it. I’ll be glad when it’s gone if I’m totally honest. I don’t like hardly anything about it. Save your money and get something better. When this SUV breaks, it’s going to cost thousands to fix. The fact that it has almost 800 miles and glitches? Nope. I can already see all of the recalls. Ford certainly made a bad move with this SUV. A 4 cylinder doesn’t belong in a truck, suv, or anything bigger than a sedan for that matter. I can’t tow, I don’t trust it, and ecoboost is known for their turbo leaks. I love my Fords, that’s pretty much all I’ve owned, but this makes me not want to buy their vehicles.
Tranny trouble
would give 4 or 5 stars if transmission wasnt such a problem.. they continue to produce the 10 speed and seems they still dont have a solution .. I have 2020 limited with only 24,000 mi and my dealership has now had it for 2 months and states they can not get parts to fix but they have plenty to go around for the new models. Love the ride and looks and standard options ..
