I am so excited to write a review about my new car. While I have only had this vehicle for less than a week. I am thoroughly impressed. I have 'NEVER' owned a Ford. I did not buy top of the line and I have not purchased a new vehicle in 20+ years. I always buy used. I was looking at three SUVs (4 Runner, Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer) and I found the features, price offering, technology, ford incentives excellent and the warranty was one of the reasons I decided to buy this. I have a 20 yr/200k mile powertrain warranty (that is anything that touches oil). I was initially hesitant about considering the inline 4 cylinder engine with ecoboost. I test drove it and loved it; I went home to research the I4 w/ecoboost needless to say I was not disappointed. I was surprisingly impressed with the gas mileage and the 310 horsepower. The 6 cylinder is 255 horsepower. I am getting bout 20/mpg in the city. WHAT!!! Do keep in mind I rented an explorer to drive from Jacksonville to Tallahassee in a bad storm, this vehicle handled very well. My explorer is Blue Jeans Metallic with tan leather, sync, navigation, touchscreen technology, halo lights, foot activated lift gate, convenient dash controls, auto start is great, auto wipers, great steering controls and so much more! The vehicle is well equipped, rides nicely, grabs the road and the cabin is super quiet compared to my 2012 Honda Odyssey. My husband is not into SUVs but he was impressed when he drove it, he said it feels more like a luxury car. The mahoney sticker was about $40.5k, after rebates the vehicle was $33,760. The final thing that ultimately sealed the deal for me was the 20yr/200K mile warranty. FORD-I'm impressed!!!!!

We bought our 2017 Explorer to replace our 2014 Escape. We loved the features of the Escape, but found we had downsized too far. We bought the lLmited, so it has pretty much every extra except the tow package. So, far we have not had any maintenance issues. It doesn't have the blinds spot indicators in the mirror like I was used to, but after driving it for a couple of weeks I didn't miss them. The Explorer has little mirrors located on the side mirrors that allows me to see everything. The front seats have amazing adjusting capabilities. The seats adjust, the foot pedals, and the steering wheel. It doesn't matter if I am wearing heels or not, I can always find the perfect spot, which isn't easy being 5' tall. My husband is 6' tall, with a fairly big build and he is also finds the seats comfortable. So, it has all the extras and they work really nice. Now for the weird thing. You cannot turn of the interior lights when you are getting in and out of the vehicle. There is no switch, so it doesn't matter if the baby is asleep, or you've been driving for a while in the dark and don't want to get blinded by the light, or if like me work nights in an area that isn't great, all the bright interior lights will shine. The back has a good amount of cargo space, but since I don't think most of us are buying this vehicle for the aerodynamic styling so I don't understand why they took that little chunk out of the back. A little over a year later and we still love our Explorer and wish we'd bought this earlier. My husband didn't realize how small the seats were in the Escape until he sat in these. So far we have only had very basic maintenance and I still haven't found out how much it would take to have the interior lights be on a switch. I hate that they come on automatically with no option. We live in Arizona, so the air conditioner is on most of the months. I get 21 or so miles in the summer and 23/24 miles in the winter. My husbands gas mileage is usually a mile or two below mine if he drives .

Review from 55,000 (and 73k) miles on 2.3L FWD

Updated: After driving 55,000 miles, here are the pros and the cons that I have noticed. First, the cons. From day one, the Sync 3 system was determined to place my phone’s volume at maximum, so after weeks of looking for ways around this, I finally conceded and set my phone not to change volume using the side buttons, which is annoying for me, but after two years I’ve gotten used to it. The sync system will go berserk about once per month and I’ll have a black screen for a couple minutes while driving down the road, but then it comes back on. The gas mileage that I record is Consistently two miles per gallon less than what my car’s computer says. The rubber/plastic piece of trim in front of the roof rails is coming off and loose so that it flaps in the wind (this was fixed by a Ford recall). Also, there have been a couple of recalls for exhaust, etc. The leather drivers seat is not that comfortable, as it looks like they expected a much smaller butt than from my 6’1 200 pound self. I don’t know why they made it wide near my legs, but then narrow by the seat back. Also, the front heater for the driver side seat stopped working before the warranty expired, so that got fixed for free. The passenger side door lock (latch) stopped working after the warranty expired, so that cost me a few hundred dollars to fix. The battery had to be replaced just under 3 years from vehicle purchase as well. Update at 73k miles. Three years and one month after my above-mentioned battery replacement from Ford, the battery died and I had to replace it. This time I went with a battery from Advance Auto. Also, the turbo-charger (I’m guessing) seems to be on its last leg, and the vehicle’s RPMs seem to jump up and down a bit when going uphill in higher gears (like gear 5 or 6) when at the lower end of the speed range for those gears. Now for the pros. I’ve driven 55k with absolutely no mechanical issues at all! (Update, by 73k miles, I have the issue just mentioned above). I’ve paid for about 6 (now 8 or 9 at 73k miles) oil changes (at about 8-9k miles each) and a few air filters, and new rear brake pads (since I like to brake hard) and some tires. The minute I accelerated from the dealership, I could tell that this vehicle had much more power than my prior 2014 Explorer 2.0L, and it continues to have all the acceleration I need (although I might *want* more at times). The sync apple airplay and google maps feature is great. Overall, I’d say this Explorer was great in initial quality, and so far has kept its value quite well, although not nearly as good as a Toyota Highlander, which is valued much higher on KBB. But overall, I’m still glad I bought this vehicle!

We sold this car because it was such a POS. It was the worst car we’ve ever owned so we took the loss on value and bought a new SUV. Every car I’ve purchased has been a Ford but this one really makes me ask why. We have the limited mode which means a lot of electronics that don’t work correctly. The back up camera randomly doesn’t work, the sensors to avoid collision frequently give false positives, and the air conditioning works inconsistently. Probably the highest maintenance cost per mile of any vehicle I’ve owned including a boat.
