Never again
When it was time to get rid of my Acura MDX I decided to be patriotic and buy American this time. What a mistake. Love the performance, handling, and comfort of the Ford Explorer sport, but reliability has been abismal. Within the first 6 months the air conditioning failed. We bought the car from a dealership that was an hour drive from home just because they gave us the best deal, but when I contacted our local Ford dealership for the warranty repair, they said I'd have to take it to the dealership that sold it to us! That dealership had to take apart the dash panel to replace the heat exchanger and when we got the car home, we discovered several electrical systems were not working. The parking brake warning light came on and I traced that to some broken wires, which I repaired myself rather than taking another hour-long drive. But the ambiance light in the passenger footwell also no longer worked, along with the backlight for the keyless entry on the driver's door. We now have 75000 miles on the car and just had to replace the water pump to the tune of $1500, because it's buried in the engine and is driven by the timing chain. Takes 10 1/2 hours to replace! Wouldn't you know that the extended warranty we bought ran out about 100 miles ago. We've had it back for only a week and now it's back at the repair shop because it suddenly started running very rough. Turns out the fuel injector for the #4 cylinder is stuck open, so fuel continuously sprays into the cylinder, fouling the plug. Haven't heard yet how much that will cost, but the injectors are also buried in the engine. We trust the shop and shudder to think what the Ford dealer would charge. I will never buy another Ford product. The other complaint is fuel consumption, which averages about 14 mpg around town and on a good day 21 mpg highway. Luckily gas prices have been low.

Test Drove Today
I'm looking for a newer car. I have a 2007 Buick Rendezvous and looking to upgrade. I originally did not come to the dealership to test this particular car, it caught my eye and my husband and I decided to go for it. I had pros and cons for our family. Pros: This baby defiantly had power. I barely pulled out of the lotand it was doing 60mph. The ride was very smooth and quiet, like my Buick in its earlier days. The front had lots of leg room. I'm 5ft 10in and my husband is 6ft abd both us were very comfortable. I didn't even have my seat all the way back abd still had plenty of leg abd head room. Cons: The car is not very good on turns. It does not turn smoothly. I also found the cargo space lacking. I work in direct sales and haul a lot of stuff to customers, anddo a lot of vendor shows as well as drive my kids around. Cargo space is a must have for my family. I don't think there is much leg room for my kids as they get older. The car sits a lot lower than I'm used to. Overall it's a pretty good SUV, but if you need a family car or cargo space you might want to check other options.

Engine locked up
My 2015 explorer has had multiple issues, the last being the engine locking up on me as I was driving down the highway. It's barely 4 years old... and I need to replace the engine. Ford wants nothing to do with the dud they sold me, don't buy from Ford they don't care about the lack of quality in the vehicles!

Watch out for the EXHAUST!!!
Originally I touted the 2015 Ford Explorer as a great SUV that was underrated, but since I started getting nauseated from the exhaust entering the vehicle, I have since revised my review. First off, DO NOT purchase this SUV, it has serious problems with exhaust entering the cabin during hard or labored engine use. Ford has denied any problems with this SUV, but so far the NHTSA has had over 450 complaints on models from 2011-2017 and there has been one near fatality from passing out from alleged CO exposure. Ford will not refund your money or put you into another vehicle without a fight. They deny that there is anything wrong with the Explorer and will keep you at arms length until your warranty expires. This could have been a very pleasant experience between Ford and us, but now we are looking at ways to get out from under this SUV without taking too much of a beating on the trade in. Ford should have redesigned the air extractors and brought them up on the vehicle instead of next to the tailpipe in the fist couple of years, so that people who are buying now will not have to suffer like the rest of us.

Love my new car!
I just traded in a 2010 Ford Expedition EL for a Explorer Sport. I loved my Expedition, but don't really need all the room. I am short and it was starting to really bother my knees and ankles getting in and out of it. So we traded it in and boy am I glad! I am loving the Explorer Sport. It drives like a dream. Very smooth and handles well. The ecoboost is fantastic. Very good gas mileage so far and the interior is very nice. I was worried I wouldn't like a smaller car but it feels big inside and I am very pleased with our purchase.
