Used 2002 Ford Explorer Consumer Reviews
Great Truck for ear plugs
My 02 XLT 4x4 now has 23k on it after the third trip to the dealership the drivers seat belt still does not retract properly and ends up closed in the door most of the time, This SUV has the 3:71 ratio..from 50-59 mph it screams.Been looked at and "fixed" twice and I was told by dealership that Ford is now trying to address the problem..hmm I guess Ford didn't manufacture cars with rear differentials until 02. I have been a faithful Ford customer for over 30 years..now I have come to see why others are buying imports..one word QUALITY..Ford just dosen't have it.
totally diggin it
This SUV handles great compared with most everything we ever test drove. The seats in the xlt are the way to go. Way more comfortable than XLS. Very happy with performance of the V6 with no reportable problems. Really enjoy all amenities and so many that are standard. Will recommend to anyone who is interested in a vehicle of this type.

Fun to drive. Have taken 3 long trips very comfortable, smooth ride but solid. Strong engine (V8) but am slightly disappointed in fuel econ 14.5 town 18 highw . Like the interior appointments easy to read insturment panel. Will buy another
Lesson learned
WE have owned this vehicle, with many problems. I noticed that the rear differential was not right from the start, but the dealership told us everything was fine each service. This is a known problem with this model year and warranty coverage is questionable. There are other problems known to Ford with this model and unknown to the consumer! We have 50K miles on it; 4 years old and now they surface after numerous complaints. I am not happy and will NEVER buy Ford again!

Good performance, excellent for highway and commuter traffic.
