1998 Ford Explorer XLT 4dr SUV AWD

I bought the car new. It’s a good
reliable vehicle, especially
considering the features and 4 wheel
drive components. The car handles well
in high winds, up hills, and fully
loaded. The cargo compartment is
spacious, enough for 4 people for a week
of camping. The Explorer, for me, is the
right size for most all situations, easy
to handle, and well built enough for
off-road use. Easily handles the worst

Best Features

Adequate power on and off-road. It's a pleasure to drive because of the short turning radius and because of the rapid acceleration when needed thanks to the 5 speed automatic. Very reliable, but requres regular care and feeding.

Worst Features

Increase clearance. All competitors have 7.5-9.5 inches. Spare tire is not easy to remove with a flat rear tire, especially off road. Independent 4-wheel ABS may be desirable instead of the current 3-way system.
