I love the design and comfort of driving this SUV. I've used the 4wd fairly often. With recent gas price hikes, though, it's become impractical and I'm looking for something with much better fuel economy. I've also had to make various repairs over the last year.
The leather seats are great - very comfortable. The location of everything in the interior design is perfect, easy to reach without having to take your eyes off the road.
Fuel economy! There's no reason for this SUV to be such a gas hog.
i hear a lot of complaints about the gas mileage, just remember before you complain, that it is a truck after all. If you want gas mileage one should buy a Civic or some lil car like that. Rear wiper kinda stinks though, it only actually wipes about 20% of the back glass. Can't really say much bad stuff though, it's fun to drive, and a SUV with a standard tranny (i love it). All in all it's a good truck, just don't expect to go without spending some money on gas, like you would with a lil four banger.
Purchased the car with 53,000 miles from a dealer. Within a month the transfer case was leaking which was replaced by the dealer. At 78,000 had to replace the heads due to coolant disappearing. At 82,000 unable to control the temperature, full blast heat. To fix this problem the dashboard must be taken out to get to the heater box to replace the damaged part at a cost of $1,100. The mechanic stated that this is a common problem with Ford Explorers. Terrible gas mileage; in town 14-15 mpg, highway 17-18 mpg. Owned many Fords before, this one has been the worst.
It is a comfortable vehicle and spacious. You feel safe when driving it.
Better gas mileage. Change the heater control to a more reliable setup.
We've had nothing but problems with this car. The electrical systems fail constantly. We've had problems with the lights, the brakes, the turn signals, the power doors, the transmission, and the gauges.
The leather interior is nice. We live in the desert where temps can be 120, but the seats stay cool. The kids have their own A/C controls in the back, too. One-touch button rolls down the driver window, without holding it down - a nice feature at the drive-through.
One-touch button to roll the window back up would be nice. Fix the electrical problems!
