2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT Rwd 4dr Crew Cab (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I like this truck and would rate it much higher if I didn't have the suspension problems. I have 35,000 miles on my truck and the front tires (second set) are feathering on the inside half. I have been told several different reasons for the problem ... struts, shocks, alignment. This truck has had problems eating up tires since around 13,000 miles. I have never heard of a vehicle going through shocks or struts that quickly. Also idles rough and "floats" during highway driving due to the suspension problems.

Best Features

Rear window.

Worst Features

Longer lasting front suspension.

2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4WD 4dr Crew Cab (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

This truck is perfect for someone who needs to on occasion haul 4x8 plywood, carry 5 passengers or have a lockable trunk (with the hard bed cover and locking tail gate). I'm 6'6" and have good leg room. The arm rests and seat belts fit with the seat all the way back. The back seats fold down flat for when the dog is along. The only thing I wish they would improve is the mileage. If they came out with a hybrid Sport Trac, I'd be all happy.

Best Features

Hard tonneau w/locking tail gate. Electric back window.

Worst Features

Make a hybrid model. A light in the bed by the tail gate - help getting packages out at night.

2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4WD 4dr Crew Cab (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

The 2004 Explorer Sport Trac is fun to own and fun to drive. Very good styling inside and out. 4 foot bed extending to 6 foot with bed extender is a nice option. Power rear window is very nice.

Best Features

Power rear window.

Worst Features

Bed cover should be standard not just optional package.

2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT Rwd 4dr Crew Cab (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Bought the truck in July '04, have 10K miles in 6 months and LOVE it. Needs a little better suspension though. Just a bit shaky for such a well thought out vehicle. Perfect combination of city commuter and country hauler. Much better seating for 4 adults than a cramped car, not huge like an SUV, yet still very sporty. Only 1 problem in 6 months but it was a quick fix for the dealer. Bed extender is a "must have"

Best Features

6 disk CD, rubber floor mats (it's a truck, not a town car!), don't have to worry about scratching the roof if I enter a parking garage, good layout of interior, nice sized engine (not too big, not too small), sliding rear window.

Worst Features

LED on dash for heated seats or move the switch, better suspension, drain holes for windshield wipers (water puddles in the scoop for wipers), better wind noise reduction, automatic unlock for the rear doors when in park.

Review

The SporTrac is a pleasure to drive. Literally drives like a car, but still can haul with the bed. However, steering is a bit wobbly, meaning, not as tight as in my old '99 Ford Ranger. Love the increased horsepower and 5 speed auto transmission. Sometimes you really have to put the pedal to the metal in order to shift into a higher gear. Other than the above, I would buy another one

Best Features

Power rear window. Interior lights stay on until out of car.

Worst Features

Tighten up the steering.
