2003 Ford Excursion Limited Rwd 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

Review

This is the second Excursion we have
owned. Our first model had the 7.3
diesel engine and was a 2000 model.
We loved it too but was a bit noisey.
After the new 6.0 diesel was available
we opted for this newer model.
This is a traveler's dream. We
average about 18mpg overall (includes
intown miles). It is
very comfortable and can get our
entire family and "stuff" in the
vehicle. It also pulls the hound out
of a cattle trailer. Love my
Excursion!

Best Features

Front captain chairs are like having a Lazy-Boy on wheels. No problem keeping it cool, even in Texas summers. Better mileage than lots of SUV's. Get a diesel..too big for gas engine. Great ride.

Worst Features

Too much wind noise. Needs better fit. That is only complaint but wind noise is no worse than most other vehicles have owned.

2003 Ford Excursion Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (6.8L 10cyl 4A)

Review

I love the whole package with this
Excursion. I added a Gibson Exhaust, a
Pro-M 95MM MAF Meter with a conical
airfilter, and a custom computer ECU
upgrade. All of these have greatly
added to the fuel economy of the big
truck! Build quality is far better
than the last 2 decades from Ford.

Best Features

Diesel fuel economy without the added $6,000 + No problem towing with a 9500# load behind.

Worst Features

Keep building this TRUCK! People assume that these are the worst fuel efficient trucks on the road..... Look at the 4.0 Liter Trucks AKA Rangers, and the Chevy 4.3 liters..... BAD Milage! FORD DON'T BUCKLE UNDER THE MISCONSEPTIONS OF THE FEW!

2003 Ford Excursion Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (6.8L 10cyl 4A)

Review

After 3 Suburbans and a 15 Passenger Van
and a Toyota Landcruiser we have family
found a true family limo. This is our
2nd Excursion. Comfort and Space. Our
massive family felt confined in a
suburban and like a tour crew in a 15
passenger van. The Excursion with its
built in DVD is just right. Way to go
Ford. What is the world are you thinking
by discontinuing the Excursion after
next year.

Best Features

Heated Leather Seats and the DVD entertainment system. The feeling of being up high in a vehicle that dominates the road. The looks of the excursion set it apart from all other large SUV's. Low maintanance compared to my Landcruiser.

Worst Features

More computer gadgets that give trip information. Navigation system. Optional 4th row seating. Wheels are ugly compared to competition.

2003 Ford Excursion Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (6.8L 10cyl 4A)

Review

An excellent vehicle all-round EXCEPT
6.0 diesel has severe and unacceptable
vibration at 1700 rpm (65 mph). Dealer
advises Ford says they are aware of
problem but have no fix.

Best Features

Relatively small turning radius for large 4x4 SUV

Worst Features

Must find solution for vibration or go back to 7.3. Have two 7.3's which have performed flawlessly.
