236,000 miles and just keeps going. Bought it new in '93 loaded. Still gets good mileage and passes smog test every two years. Hope to keep it many more years.

My crown vic is my first car and holds a special place in my heart, it even has a name: Victor. It was my grandpa's car, and when he died I had just turned 16 so I inherited the car, and it's served me well. I've put about 40,000 miles onto the car in the past 5 years, but I can't be sure because the odometer stopped working at 99,000 miles, and I think I've probably put on another 10k since then. I've had to replace the alternator and starter as well as every window motor, but other than that the car has been incredibly reliable. Oh and the rearview mirror fell off. My only complaint is the gas guzzling, that v8 burns through gas like no ones business.

I have owned two of these, very dependable.Good visibility,Engine and transmission very reliable, engines can last up to 200k to300k if you change the oil regularly. Try to find a later model with electronic fuel injection. The cars made from 1979 to early 80tys have carburetor issues and cost a whopping $800 to replace !! Choke and throttle issues on both cars. Plenty of room in front ,very easy access.Gas hogs around town.Large outer body so not very nimble.Easy to find parts for and low initial cost.If you want a cheap reliable older car this is it,they will last a long time if you maintain them. Will seat 6 people but rear seat leg room limited.Caution 1995 through 2001 have plastic intake manifolds these ALWAYS CRACK costs over $800 to replace so if you want to buy one these made those years ask owner if it was replaced for I guarantee you it will fail at some point.I traded in car these have low trade in value because of older design.

100K issues, or lemon? One of the two.

I was given this car by elderly woman who bought it new and was single owner. She had all dealer service receipts and original check for $20, 000. that she paid for car. Car had aboutr105K to K125K miles on it when I got it. I based this off of dealer receipts records since odometer broke at 90K. Car had steering wheel electric recall dealer repaired twice but still had problem when I had it. I have a mechanics degree, looked into prob, could tell some of the parts were manufactured poorly causing the issues. Car had electric issues. Car began using massive amount of oil. Tranny went out. Brakes always very soft. Car started having misfire. Headlights always poor. Shocks shot. Vacuum hose went and killed car, I repaired and could see the original design was extremely bad design and caused the breakdown. PROS: ...engine had awesome power, very good gas mileage for full size car and motor, luxury ride interior, quiet inside, power everything, smooth motor and tranny and quiet. I was expecting this low miles dealer serviced one owner luxury full power package car to easily go for another 250K miles singing in the rain, instead I sold it to the scrapyard for $200 while carcould still limp under its own power. Sad day and sad fate for top end expensive model Ford purchased new by school teacher from the worlds oldest Ford dealership (Tenvoorde Ford of St. Cloud Minnesota).

Bad valve seals

Bought it used with 50,000. the valve seals went bad at 150,000. Dropped in a ford remanufactured engine and now has 210,000. Radio wend bad and have replace all window motors - TWICE! mileage on a trip was 30 on the old engine, only 27 on the new one, but the new one has much more pep. go figure. Great car, if I find another good used one, I'll buy it and put it on blocks.
