We have been very happy with our
Contour. It has only needed normal
upkeep and has had only one moderate
problem caused by my daughter and her
lack of experience in driving. It fits
everyone in our family from my husband
who is 6'2" to our daughter who is only
Fits a wide range of driver's heights.
Moves right along in high speed
interstate traffic. Decent gas mileage.
Radio/cassette is a pain to use or
change while you are driving. The
buttons are small and there is no
direct simple way to tune in a station
that is not on your pre-set buttons.
Well, I must say that I have enjoyed my
ownership if this car so far. I have
the V6 and it's perfomance is great.
Power when you need it w/ a nice
growl.The handling is awesome.It stays
glued to the road and is very
predictable.Being a car nut and I have
to say the Contour, especially in SE
Sport trim has beat all within $3-4k of
the price.I get great&unheard of fuel
economy w/ it. I average 30-32 hwy &
city combined. The worst thing that has
happened w/ this car is the fuel pump
went bad at 60k..They are WELL
underpriced compared to the Cavaliers &
Neons , Etc. out there.They don't have
half the performance and comfort the
2.5 V6, braking is great,auto shifts
smoothly and predictably,Handling is
many times better than comparably
priced cars out there,Styling, comfort,
& more space than the car shows.
Well.. unfortunalty... only Eurpe has
access to the Contour"Mondeo over
there".. so we can't do much
improvement now.. The Bosch +4 plugs
did wonders. FORD's SERVIVE depts. need
This is in my experience a pretty good
car. I have not heared any complaints.
If you live on dirt road, the struts
can be costly Apr. 1000 for all 4 with
alignment Im going in for the first
time in 5 years.
I've had my 99 SE Sport for 4 years
now and have enjoyed it the whole
time. I've had no major problems
(knock on wood) except for a slight
deformation in the dashboard, which I
realized too late was a recall item
that I never took advantage of. It's
a great drive.
I have had a good experience with this
vehicle. Besides routine maintenance,
the only problems I have had with this
car was the replacement of the fuel
pump and a recall for the dashboard
cover (warping in high heat). The fuel
pump was under warranty and the
dashboard replaced for free. I do have
a peculiar problem with my car only
when it is below freezing and the
engine is cold- the airbox makes a
funny resonant vibrating noise. My car
has currently has 62000 miles on it
and will probably give me that much
more I guess...
The favorite features on this car are
the V-6 engine, which has plenty of
power and durability and the handling
of the car. I drive fairly
aggressively and the OE Michelin tires
lasted me 40000+ miles.
