Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsPretty pokey off the line, but once under way, the C-Max gets with the program with a seamless blending of engine/motor power delivery. It's no noisier than a typical driveline, but the semi-constant rpm at wide-open throttle reveals the CVT. The result is about what I would have expected a vehicle of this weight to deliver if it had a V6.
Braking commentsNothing out of the ordinary here. Typical pedal feel and resistance to fade for a vehicle in this category. No wander or wiggle, with an expected amount of dive.
Handling commentsSkid pad: With non-defeat stability control (and traction control off) I was pleased to find the C-Max wasn't overly intrusive with its brake corrections. It has linear steering response and mild understeer that I attempted to correct with a little "lift-stab" on the throttle. Still, this is an average-to-good performance for a vehicle of its size. Slalom: I could get the inside front wheel to howl before traction control kicked in. Steering has appropriate build-up and feels natural.
