Buyer Beware

by Iamjennyrae on 03/07/2022

On 04/24/2021 we purchased a 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. On our test drive, the truck was billowing smoke from underneath the truck. We called our salesmen, Dave and Dylan. They told us to come back to the dealership. They told us that it was likely the rhino liner that was sprayed on the undercarriage of the truck. Also, there was an "air filter" indicator that kept coming on. We went forward with the purchase, under the precepts on the "due bill" that the truck stop smoking and the air filter be resolved prior to us taking delivery. Upon delivery of the vehicle, the truck did stop smoking. However the air filter light came on again. We went back and they said they changed the air filter. However, in late November 2021, the truck started to seep smoke again, but not as much. We assumed that was from normal diesel burn-off. However, we had people stop us on the freeway twice in January 2022, and tell us that our truck was on fire. It wasn't on fire, but it was billowing smoke again. Upon trying to get in to see someone at McLoughlin Chevrolet to see us in service, they would not see us for two weeks. We reached back out to our sales reps, Dylan and Dave, as I could not get Travis, their service manager to return five messages that I left for him. I asked Dave and Dylan if our purchased service contract could be used anywhere. It could. We took it to Weston GMC, who notified us that the air filter was years old, cracked, and unbelievably over used. So, McLoughlin had merely reset the light indicator, not actually replaced the filter. Weston also made the discovery that the seam between the DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst) and DPF (diesel particulate filter) had been recently welded together, very poorly. That welding was likely done between the time we signed docs and the time that we took delivery when those issues were supposed to have been resolved, per our "Due Bill" at the time of purchase. Hence the smoke stopped for 7 months. Once their poor weld job started to fail, the smoke started billowing out that hole again. It is Weston's opinion that McLoughlin Chevrolet put that weld there so that we would take delivery of the truck. Upon their discoveries, we sought reimbursement for repairs via the sales manager, Fred Farley and Service Director, Travis Gaul. They refused to participate in any reimbursement. They also refused to provide me any contact details for the General Manager or Owners of McLoughlin Chevrolet. We have filed formal complaints and lawsuits with Multnomah County Court, Better Business Bureau, Department of Justice, Corporate Headquarters of GMC and Chevrolet. Buyer Beware. We've had our truck less than a year, and it's had over $8,000.00 of repairs done on it.

DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THIS DEALERSHIP

by tmiller on 06/19/2018

BUYER BEWARE, PLEASE DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THIS DEALERSHIP: I purchased a used truck (2012 with 44k miles) from them in May of 2018. When I had my mechanic check over the truck we were shocked to see the entire underside covered in rust.(see link below) The rack and pinion (power steering) also has a leak and needs to be replaced. These are very expensive repairs. The rack and pinion is over $800 alone. I was assured this truck had been inspected, yet none of its issues were disclosed to me. The customer service when I contacted McLoughlin Chevrolet about this has been absolutely horrible. The salesman’s(Elliott Dawson) first response was if I didn’t like the truck I should trade it in. It was appalling and basically telling me to take a multi-thousand dollar loss! I have been ignored, blown off and they have been NO HELP. After going back and forth with Mickael Jeffers for weeks I was left with nothing but unfulfilled promises. He promised to get me an appointment with their service department, no follow through. I left messages with the sales managers and no calls back. This was after I offered to drive all the way back from Central Oregon to do the repair and nothing. In my opinion this dealership is your stereotypical shady dealership, not forthright and have little concern or respect for their customers and the cars they sell. There are many car dealerships in the Portland area, go to a different one. [html removed]

The Nordstrom Experience of Car Buying

by rlstagg on 08/26/2017

The Team at Mcloughlin not only were very kind throughout my recent car buying experience, they were very informative, and did not pressure me in any way. Actually to be comparative they presented themselves as if you were shopping at Nordstrom. It helped that Bruce Lee was a Cowboys fan. Mr Kim was equally as direct and to the point with me as I was with him. I appreciated that. I believe at the end of the day I received a fair deal for what turned out to be an 'amazing' Chevy Silverado Duramax Diesel. Thank you very much for making this a very positive experience and you can be assured I already have and will continue to recommend Mclouglin Chevrolet in the future.

Lied to on an order

by corychump on 03/15/2016

Is this a new take on the Bait and Switch routine? “Bait and Switch Up-sell on an order”? Think a used car bait and switch is bad? Imagine being lied to and strung along for 3 months on an ordered vehicle! ------------Synopsis------------ Background: I look like a stupid chump to car dealers. Always have… it is an illness called “stupidchumpitus”. 1. I order a specific truck from McLoughlin Chevy with a specific configuration at an agreed upon price. 2. The general manager adds the most useless and expensive package (7k) available that only appeals to guys half my age 3. This is declared to be a mistake in ordering 4. I call in over 25 times in the next 2 1/2 months trying to get it changed. It never does 5. >>>The general manager says I won’t have to pay for the package<<<< 6. The truck comes with the garish overpriced package installed. 7. >>>>The general manager says I won’t have to pay for it<<<< 8. The general manager goes back on his promise and wants me to pay 3k more than we agreed to. I have waited 3 months and he says I will have to order again. He blames the owners for this... I have proof of all of this in phone records and texts from the salesman ---------The Saga of the Chevy Colorado Diesel------- January 2: My wife hates haggling so she said we should go through the Costco program. I call them and get an e-mail directing us to McLoughlin Chevrolet. January 4: We meet with a salesman (no longer with the company) and give him the exact order. The sales manager said they no longer do Costco but will honor $250 below invoice #. Invoice happens to be a known amount #* (it can easily be found through various services on the internet). We verify this amount with the salesman and the general manager enters our order in the GM system and gives us the printout. I know what the invoice is (within $200) for this truck but the general manager insists he does not know it until the vehicle is invoiced* (Dealerships know invoice pricing and so does any 12 year old with access to the internet) January 5: I check the printout for accuracy and find that a $7000 package has been added on. January 6: I call the salesman frantically asking them to fix the order (He says he will check into it) Over the next month I call the dealership over 16 times and even talk to the general manager. I am promised over and over again that the expensive package will be or has been removed. One time they told me the general manager was with the system rep fixing the system and they would fix my order. I call in early February and am told the $7000 package has been removed from the order in the GM system. After a month of stress, I am relieved… February 8: I discover the “ColoradoFans” forums and learn there is a chat on the Chevy website. I chat with Chevy and find the $7000 package is still on there. Panicked, I call in to the dealership an am told that it is removed on their end and it takes a while for it to be reflected at GM (I happen to be a tech guy and know this is unlikely. Maybe in the 70's and 80's with batch processing but not anymore). >>>The Good Cop<<< Finally I call in trying to place a new order, so I can cancel the bad one. I get Dillon who "really tries to help." He tells me that I already have an order and cannot order again. He actually returns my calls... the former salesman and the general manager never did. I had to learn their work schedule to reach them. He tells me that the general manager will not charge me for the $7000 package if it gets added on in production. This does not remove my stress at all. A dealership will not take a loss like this. ++ I chat weekly with the Chevy side checking to see if the package has been removed. The truck gets its TPW with the package still on. The truck gets produced with the package still on! March 8: The truck makes it to the dealer. I have text exchanges with the salesman that the general manager with honor the initially agreed price of what I ordered.* I make sure that these are saved. They say they will not install the package which is dealer installed, and I say that is ok*. I don't like the look of it anyway but I need this truck since we are down to one car. Further discussion at the dealership leads to them installing the entire package because they need to legally.* >>The Bad Cop<<< I am told to meet with the general manager on Saturday March 12. He is a "good gm and he will take care of me". The night before I am to meet with the general manager, I get a call from "the new sales manager" (The guy I bought from and was meeting is his boss) saying they will not sell the truck at this price! He says he will replace it with one from another dealer. There is a reason we ordered this truck in January (other than thinking we could avoid the hassle of haggling). It is nowhere to be found. I tell him I am keeping my morning meeting with the general manager. I meet with the general manager. He says he will sell it to me for 3k more than I agreed on the package I ordered. He then produces an invoice # from another truck similar to mine to show me that "invoice is a lot more than I think". This is part of a new argument. ”We did not actually agree on a price because the truck was not yet invoiced when we ordered it”. After removing every option on that invoice that I did not order he found that I was dead on. Actually I was being generous. I offered the conquest cash to defray the cost of HIS "mistake" a bit. I even offered my services to fix some risk associated with their website to help make up the difference. He said “he would talk to the owners”. If you are the general manager who do you talk to behind the curtain? March 14: They will not honor any promise they made. I only wanted to order and pay for a vehicle in good faith! --------------------A Possibility----------- My working hypothesis is this: They have reduced availability for a vehicle. When a nice seeming customer walks in wanting to order a highly popular yet constrained vehicle at a low price it is like finding a fat wallet on the street. They add an expensive package to that vehicle when it is ordered knowing most people won’t check. If they do… they can play the technology "does not work" card. The vehicle arrives and they give the customer a “special deal” to make up for the mistake of adding a horribly overpriced package. They would generally get two responses 1. The customer walks away letting them sell a vehicle >>for a lot more<<< 2. The customer buys it and they get more than the lousy hold backs that invoice -250 leaves them with. The customer is their new allocation source! Win! Everything they told me could be true (I am sure Kurt or Meghan will respond saying that). Even so, if they had real integrity, they would have swallowed the loss created by THEIR own mistake. A mistake their customer tried to correct REPEATEDLY and spent no small amount of time and stress on. Notes: *A general manager does not get where he is by not knowing the ordering process, the invoice cost, what his underlings are doing. He or she gets there by being a very effective salesman who can mentor the sales force. Effective salesmen will play every angle to get the dealership the most income for the dealership.

Great Experience

by Csstile on 11/02/2015

Had a great experience buying our 2011 Camaro at McLoughlin Chevrolet. We put off for a few years due to past car dealership experience. I let them know i had alot of pain issues and they accomadated us wonderfully. We did test drive of few cars we were interested in and signed papers all in 2 hours! Meaghan McGlasson our sales associate was great! We didnt even have to negotiate the payments/interest rate. I let the finance department know what we had to stay under and they came in below. We are loving the car and very very happy we went to this dealership!!! Also we just got letter in mail that payments etc quoted were incorrect. Our payment and interest rate is now lower than we thought it would be! Thats makes this experience perfect.. Who ever hears of that happening!

Life Is So Sweet

by ThisIsLife57 on 06/02/2014

I became familiar with McLoughlin Chevrolet through their service department. Mr. Dave S.-The Red Team Manager did an excellent job of making sure my car was well serviced. I decided one day to visit McLoughlin Chevrolet to check out the new cars. Upon my arrival I met Mr. Joey S., the Sales Associate, a very warm and cheerful man. He asked me could he assist me in finding a car. I related to Joey that I was leasing a very basic 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. I told Joey that I wanted a V6 engine, front wheel drive and a rear camera. Joey took me for a test drive and pointed out the upgraded features of the car. Joey said that I don't have this particular car on the lot, but I can get this car for you. I went home and talked to my wife and the next day we both came back to see Joey. My wife wanted a sunroof and a few extra features. Joey then introduced me to Mr. Sam M., the General Manager, a soft spoken, very articulate well dressed gentleman. Mr. Sam M. was able to work the leasing agreement. I received my car in a couple of days, as it had to be driven from Puyallup, WA. We are very pleased with our Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat 2014 Chevrolet Equinox 1LT. This was the best and most wonderful experience we've had in purchasing a car.

Eric (tony stark) and Sam(the GM) are amazing

by dallavis1988 on 04/09/2014

We went into Chevy not thinking they could do anything for us due to the fact that me and my husband's credit is horrible and we were already under in our other car loans, we came out happy... Eric was our dealer he was great, and Sam the gm helped with the deal as well my husband is in the military, witch made this personal for Sam( because he also served for our country) and it showed Sam got on his personal cell Phone with banks to get my husband's deal funded and worked on my car the next two days, I will never go any Where else for a car, and I will only recommend Chevy. They are very family oriented at one point one of the other sales men's grand daughter came in, she was around my daughters age it was amazing seeing them with her. No dirty Looks because she was playing only smiles .... thanks Sam and Eric we love our cars
