by Jeff on 05/03/2023Got my new 2023 Ford F-250 delivered from Cloninger Ford this past Friday (4/28/23). I paid 3k over sticker for a new truck but received a truck with 1500 miles on it. The general manager took it to the Outer Banks on a fishing trip prior… to delivery. Shame on me for buying from Cloninger Ford.Home town feeling

by Ben Tyler on 05/20/2020Sales and Finance were on the ball during the buying process, then I signed and it was all downhill from that point on. Could not get anyone to return my phone calls, the truck was delivered to my home, however I was told my copies of the… paperwork would be mailed back to me and it was an act of Congress to get them (took 2 weeks and many phone calls). The truck had a moonroof malfunction in the first 5 days and the battery died and had to be replaced on day 7. Again, could not get anyone from the dealership to even return my calls once they heard I was having problems. Did not honor their word to "check on what they could do to help with moonroof or replacement battery" and I had to contact everyone listed on their website with an formal email to get my paperwork sent to me so I could find out that they were not going to help with a warranty, (2016 King Ranch 42k miles). Lastly and the latest in dealing with Cloninger is trying to get my permanent tags. I am at the 6 week mark waiting on my tags and had to contact the dealership 3 times before someone, "reluctantly" issued me another 30 day tag while we wait on the permanent ones. The issue was blamed on the state being backed up and slow, but I contacted DMV and they said the issue was with the dealership not processing the paperwork, which I believe is the case. All in all, this was the worst car buying experience, with some of the most unprofessional people. I would not conduct another transaction with Cloninger Ford of Hickory and would suggest anyone that is considering it, just go somewhere else and save yourself the misery of dealing with these unorganized and unprofessional operating staff. My suggestion to Cloninger is to honor commitments when you say you are checking on something or will return a phone call, then just be honest and say you will not do anything with repairs once the car is purchased. Then I could have saved myself a lot of time and frustration dealing with a team of people that seemed too timid or confused to help facilitate any sort of resolution. This includes the General Manager and all staff in the buying process.First Purchase of a Pre-Owned Car

Largely due to the professionalism and humanity of my salesperson, Mr. Jeff… Phillips, the experience turned out to be both enjoyable and successful. Of course, I was worried about being pressured into buying something I didn't really want, or even cheated. Nothing like that happened. Jeff showed me the four Fusions I had found on line that I might like and then handled a deal for my trade-in that was ultimately fair. I am pleased with my 2016 Ford Fusion and am glad I came to Cloninger and was lucky enough that Jeff was asked to be my consultant. He is a real credit to the company and a fine person to deal with.Ford Escape

It turns out we made the decision to purchase, got financing through them (the dealer) had an… apt to pick up the car at 630pm and at 333pm (3 hours before our apt) I got a text (NOT A CALL) that the car was sold and could we pick another. UNBELIEVABLE>Overall great dealership the best around.

by Waltoro on 07/04/2016I was originally looking for a late model used ford pickup and had first gone to CarMax. They wanted $30k for a 2014 model with 30k miles. When I walked your lot on the last day of June I saw a new F150 XLT Sport 4x4 for $38k! A bit of a no… brainer, drove it away on the same day. Josh and the finance guy (sorry, blanking on his name, but hell of a nice guy) made it a painfree process. Got a ton of rebates. Took it to Chapel Hill this weekend and it drove like a Cadillac. 21.1 mpg with only 200 miles on the drive train. Too many features to mention, well beyond my initial desire. Also got the 7 yr/100k service package, great value. This is the fourth new vehicle I have purchased from you guys and you continue to improve. I am what you would call a happy camper. by dwattsjr on 03/17/2016I researched a truck online for my son who's car had broken down and needed replaced in order to work. We found the one we wanted at Cloninger Ford. We scheduled a test drive that night for the next evening at 6:00 pm. My son drove that… day from VA in order to be at the test drive day and we came specifically to your dealership to buy it and even applied online for credit before we arrived. When we arrived the truck was not ready for us and had to be found and nobody could even find our record of applying on line or request for a test drive. Then I was told that night that it was too late at night (7:30?????) for financing to get approved and sent home with nothing – I was promised that the truck would be held for me and that Cloninger was not like other dealerships and operated with honesty. I expressed my opinion that the whole thing was not adding up to me and that I was not happy about being sent home without the vehicle. The next morning I checked with the manager – Ronnie – because he had not got back with me as he had promised that morning - to see if the financing had finally came through – and he said no. So I notified Ronnie that I was coming with cash to buy the truck and would be there right after lunch (just a few hours later). His immediate response back - they just sold it to a guy that looked at it two days before me without even giving me a chance to counter offer or pay cash. It was totally unexplainable and completely unacceptable. Especially because Ronnie and the dealership knew my son had driven down from Richmond VA – missed work - to specifically take that truck home on Friday. He had to rent a car for the next two weeks as we had to restart our vehicle search from scratch I was miss-led and had my vehicle sold out from under me and was treated in a way that would never have me returning to this dealership.Eric Smith

I made an appointment for the next day to come see it but got to thinking I better go right away. I called back and the staff was very… friendly and accommodating. I traveled 25 miles to Hickory and was helped very promptly! The sales staff was very easy to talk to and deal with and I left that day with my new truck!! I have traded and bought vehicles over the year's and this is one of the best experiences I have had. I really love my new truck and would recommend Cloniger Ford to anyone!Excellent service

He had us test drive a Ford edge and a fusion. He didn't pressure us into buying anything. He helped us go… over the interest rates and payment plans on the vehicles. After a couple hours of deciding what to do we decided to go with the fusion. We love the car so far. We will definitely recommend people looking for a car to come to Cloninger ford and I will highly recommend David Wilson because of his laid back personality, him not rushing or pushing us into buying anything. Great experience buying a car!!!Simple and easy process!

He found the vehicle I wanted and brought it to the front so I would not have to hike all over the lot. He was very knowledgeable about it. He was very friendly and… answered all my questions. He helped me get the vehicle financed. Once everything was finished and I was ready to leave he took the time to show me how things worked. He helped me adjust the mirrors!
