  • i really doubt it is illegal of some terms

1 out of 5 starsby arthurrz on 02/09/2016

i was interested in 2014 jeep grand Cherokee. the sales people is ok, gave me pretty decent trade in value. at the very beginning, i thought i was so blessed and lucky to get a great deal with jeep, but after that everything turned to be my nightmare with Jeep. 1. "PRE DESTINATION FEE" this is the first time i heard about this fee for a pre-owned vehicle. the price was 29995, but my sale associate wrote 31650 on the price form without saying anything or explanation before i noticed that difference. i had dealt with TOYOTA, MINI and ACURA on both new and used cars. this is the first time i saw sales people wrote a number that was different with what we have agreed, also the first time i heard about this fee on used car. 2. "MUST FINANCE NO LESS THAN 90% WITH DEALERSHIP" If the dealship can give me a more decent APR, i can definitely go with it. but the finance manager gave me a horrible rate even i already shown him the rate i got approved by other bank. it is 1.5% more than what i have been approved!!!!!!! i m not sure this statement is legal or not, if it is illegal, and please anyone do something on this to stop this trap on customers. i will absolutely not recommend this dealership to anyone, and i am curious why they have 4.5 review on this website as well as they have only 3.5 on the google.

They only got one star because Edmunds would not let me rate them lower. While in the hunt for a Jeep Liberty we ended up at Town & Country used cars in Levittown and BOY did this place waste our time. The price IS NOT what you see and they will not flex to make it so or work with you either. We had found what we thought was a nice 2011 Liberty for around 15k amongst what looked like a great selection of good looking vehicles. We had our own financing arranged in hand and for a great APR which we had told them when we had walked in the first time a week prior while in the research stage. We were told that we were free to use our own financing, at that time, that it was not a problem. We test drove two Liberty’s and settled on one when we were told that on top of the price there was a significant fee, for delivery and dealer prep AND that we had to take their financing with at least a point higher interest, which I am sure would have included a loan origination fee too, which was not disclosed at that time either. The 15k vehicle suddenly had another 2+k added to the price, not including sales tax and though we had been ready to take the plunge we walked out with feeling disgusted and more than a little soiled in the process. They treat you nicely in the door, but then insult you with lots of added fees, and though we could afford it we did not want to deal with anyone who was so underhanded as to apply such a bait and switch on the price and who would try to gouge you for every penny they could get you for. I know they are in business to make money, but if they had been up front about the finances to start we could have looked at things much more realistically and perhaps gone in to other vehicles there in our search or simply not wasted our time as we had. We should have taken the hint when the couple before us had walked out when they offered pay full cash for a similar Liberty just minutes before, telling us that they were told that the price only applied for people financing and that there were additional charges. So far the only places we have seen which do not seem to play this game are Enterprise car dealers in Hempstead and D&P in Merrick, so far. The only justification the people at Town & Country Used could offer was that their “internet ad stated that you had to finance with [them] and that other fee’s would apply”, without specifying exact amounts. This is a crummy and underhanded way to do business defying the spirit of truth in advertising, yes they tell you that there are fees, but they do not tell you what they are until you are about to close the deal. Thankfully my wife and I are not stupid, or at least she is not, and we are more than willing to walk when we feel people are trying to mess with a deal; In short we walked away feeling that the reputation of the typical used car sales person had truly been justified at Town & Country Used Cars and the motto for them should be Caveat Emptor!

My husband and I are so pleased with my transactions with Town &Country Levittown Dealership. FASTEST EFFICIENT and HONEST DEAL I EVER HAD, COMPARED TO OTHER CAR DEALERS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. Special mention to Mr. Tommy Bedea for his patience and honesty. I was straightforward on my phone transaction with what I wanted, the budget I have, and when I got to the dealership THEY GAVE ME EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. NO change of plans no force selling if anything NO PRESSURE AT ALL. Highly recommended

The Good: Purchased a used vehicle from this dealer after finding the advertised car online. My sales rep, Phil, was very nice and attended to all details in an efficient manner and was knowledgeable about most all of the issues raised in our conversations. This large dealership offers a few nice free perks and has a large service department offering loaner cars and local transport. The Bad: Like other reviewers noted, there is an overbearing pressure to finance with the dealership. This is not unique to Town & Country alone. The used cars are advertised at the "finance" price, not the actual "cash" price which is significantly higher. The difference amounts to the 8-9% paid back as a commission or rebate to the dealer by the chosen financial institution. This may serve to benefit their advertising objective, but can also be viewed as a deceptive practice since a cash customer, expecting the advertised price, is now informed that they have to pay the advertised price plus the bank's rebate. I am not being critical of just this dealership but of an endemic industry-wide sales practice that off-puts the buying experience.

when i first saw the car I wanted i called and asked the woman who answered if i could pay with a capital one check and the rest in cash to which i was told it is no problem. when i went to get the car as soon as i mentioned the check i was told "If youre not financing with us the price isnt the same" i said thats against the law you must sell the car for the price listed. i was then told that right by the price it says only if you finance through us. ( Which is a lie) i explained to youri (the man "helping" me) when i called i should have been informed of that. he told me the woman at the desk knows nothing. he then told me the check i was holding in my hand wasnt a check. he had this idea that i had to get my credit run again and get qualified for a check i was already qualified for and holding in my hand. he then went on to explain that he worked for capital one and thats how it works ... again he was wrong. so i asked how to go about getting their financing to which i was told they would have to run my credit "once". at the time i was hesitant bc i just had my credit run to get the check that he insisted was not a check. i finally agreed. they ran my credit 6 times (which i didnt know until i recieved denial letters). now the price of the car was $13,985 and right next to it where Youri claimed it said only if you use our financing... it actually said final price and i have pitures of the site to prove this. so you would think 13,985 would actually be the final price before taxes of course. but now he adds gas delivery and a few other charges so the car ends up being $17000 WITH THEIR FINANCING!!! so i tell him i want to put down $7000 in cash to which im now told i can only put down 10% and i have to finance 90% through them to which i still agree. i put down a $500 deposit and i was told if anything goes wrong it would be returned to me within two weeks. for some reason i couldnt get the insurance that day so i gave the deposit and left, i tried for a few days to get the insurance and i was having an issue so i called and spoke to youri and told him to cancel and send me my refund and he said ok. about a week later i was able to get the insurance and i went back to get the car. i was told the $500 deposit was already in the mail. now i go into a room with a guy named steve whos going to "help" me with the financing. . this guy steve asked me how much im going to put down and i told him 10% like im allowed his response was you can put down whatever you want. i explained that youri told me i could only put down 10% and he said i dont know why youri told you that he doesnt know what hes talking about. so i try to put down $4000 cause thats all i had on me. you would think that should come off the 17000. WRONG. . somehow after i put $4000 cash down i still owe $17000 on the $13,985 car. with my capital one check i had i would have been paying $250 a month. Steve tells me the financing through them is 399 a month . i told him thats never happening i was going to pay 250 with my loan. so now he tells me he can get it lower but i need to add different types of warranties which will lower the interest and not change the price.so i added a extended warranty and a tire warranty. I bought the car anyway even though i was sure i was being robbed. now im waiting for my refund check, a month goes by and nothing i call youri on his cell phone and he tells me hes gonna go check it out now, give him about a half hour and hell call me back. he didnt call me back so i again called his cell phone and he didnt answer. i called about 3 times with no answer then called the buisness itself and was told hes unavailable could we take a message. i told them to have youri call me back and he didnt. the next day i call again and he tells me give him an hour and call him back. i call back in an hour (again calling his cell) with no response. the next day i call and speak to a manager who tells me to give him a half hes going to find out whats going on and hell call me back. he said he doesnt understand why youri didnt just issue the refund it takes 5 minutes. so in a half hour he calls me back and says your absolutely right we owe you $500. the reason it wasnt sent out (although i was already told it was in the mail) was it was not put it as a depost. (hmmm very fishy) but it wil be sent out tomorrow morning. so i had to wait almost 2 months to get my refund. i lost my phone about the time i recieved the check and wanted information on how to go about getting the car checked when need be. so i went into the online chat and explained to them the situation. i was told i would be contacted within 24 hours and was not contacted, this happened about 8 times before i stopped contacting them. then i recieved an email saying my 3 months is almost up, schedule an appointment for them to look over the car. again i went online to find out about this process to which i was lied to again and told i would be contacted through email. i did this everyday for about a week and the last person i spoke to i explained everything that happened from day 1. i was told i would be contacted by a manager via email. the next day i receive an email from a manager but he tells me to call although ive explained way too many times that i do not have a phone. so my 3 month inspection was never done. when i finally got a phone i called and spoke to a manager who i tried to explain everything that happened but the ignorant man kept cutting me off. he told me steve (the man who helped with financing) was wrong about what i can put down for deposit. he also said steve made money on my $4000 deposit and thats why it didnt go towards the price of the car. he claimed everywhere charges for delivery gas etc, which isnt true when the place says final price. i explained to him what happened with the 3 months and he had this idea that no one on his side did anything wrong. so everyone i spoke to said the prior person didnt know what they were talking about, they were rude, disrespectful, not helpful in any way. they robbed me of over $4000 and did nothing to make up for all the probelms they caused. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE

Jim Stannish was so helpful and informative.Didn't feel pressured at all. In fact he spent a lot of time going over the whole car with us. We are very pleased with him and our car. Jim DeMott did our financing he explained everything we needed to know. They both did a great job. .

Went in to lease a brand new truck. Salesman was decent, usual lines how they were the best, we don't lie here, we're here for you. Shopped a few dealerships and even though not the rock bottom lowest, located near my home so wanted to deal with these guys and they knew that. Came to a deal-truck was available. Next morning, truck was apparently sold--manager didn't realize. No biggie to me, was told he has 200 trucks between two lots, lets pick another one. Prints out another truck--was the $1000 difference in price that concerned me---but it didnt have side steps. So, instead of looking for another truck, tried to convince me to buy that one and pay extra to have the steps. Told me that since it was a lease--I'd have to pay. other dealerships were looking to throw the steps in for free on trucks that didnt have them. When I went back with a truck I bought from someone else--boy were they red. Cursing at me and telling me they didn't want my business---that I was a grinder.(is that an insult?) yeah I shopped around for 2 weeks like a smart consumer. I found out, that's their number 1 enemy. [non-permissible content removed] with lots of tricks and I didnt even get to the finance manager---imagine the crap when I got that far. AVOID AVOID AVOID

I agreed to a price on a car with the internet sales manager, when I got to the dealer they quoted me $2,600 more saying I did qualify for certain discounts. In the past my father in law had a similiar experience with his Wrangler which he then bought from another dealer. As someone else wrote, I cannot believe this place has not been closed down. The sales people are so sleazy you feel like you need a shower when you leave the place. The guy actually tried to charge me twice for the destonation charge. What a [violative content deleted]. The sad thing is if he just would have been straight up with me, he would have had a sale as I really liked the car, but no one wants to feel like they have been taken advantage of.

i just bought a new dodge pick up truck last week from this place. the reason that i chose this dealer is because it is close to my house, but if i saw these reviews before i bought my car, i would have gone to another dealer without a doubt. even though these reviews indicate poor business practices, everyone should know that not everyone in that place is like that one guy. I had a nice experience with my salesman, pete as well as the finance person. i met with teresa. when i showed up to pick up my car, i just wanted to be in and out, but was told that i needed to see the finance person. I have to admit that at first i was a little turned off about the whole process, however when i went into the office, teresa greeted my wife and i with a big smile. she went over different ways that we can buy my truck, different warranty packages, and many different add on's that she had to offer. Not one moment went by where my wife and i felt bullied, manipulated, or treated badly. it was a pleasant experience. we had many laughs and shared rediculous stories. that is not what you expect from a car dealer, none the less the "person in the back". if i had to rate this dealership on a scale of 1-10, i would go with an 8.

If you are even considering getting a Chrysler (which you should think twice about), you should definitely stay away from this place. After waiting 2 1/2 hours to deal with financing they show me some papers with additional warranty fees, dealer fees, etc.... so make sure you review contract when dealing with any dealership. Then when I tell them I don't want warranty they say interest rate will be higher....I did some research and found out that's illegal. Your interest rate has nothing to do with having warranty or not. Not only did they try to stick me with the higher interest but then they said there was a dealership fee of aprox. $500. It was half hour after closing so it was late, since I was alone they thought I didn't have a ride home and they told me...."those are the fees are you going to buy it or how are you going to get home?" I informed the [violative content deleted] that I had my car and was easily prepared to walk out...the eventually dropped the fee to $250 and I decided to take it just to get the hell out of there. As soon as I left I got a refinance outside of there and paid back their finance within a month. (They make money from the financing side too...so I wanted to take that away from them). If after all the warnings you still decide to go in there....please take a tape recorder and record their illegal practices so you can file a complaint. I'll complain about the service dept some other time. FYI: the sales person will pretend not to know anything about the additional fees the financing guy is doing.

Bought my first new car here. Chrysler Sebring. My old trade didn't qualify for cash for clunkers. Was very pleased that Mr. Kelly the business manager was able to get me a fair price for my trade. I had my own financing lined up but he was able to get me a better rate term through a major bank. They were very patient here showing me all the bells and whistles on my new ride. All in all, a very pleasurable experience for my wife and myself. Glad I bought American!

If you're looking for bait and switch, take a drive down the road to Jones Beach. The treatment we recieved from the dealership was nothing short of indecent. We came in with a pre-approved loan. They told us they could do better. Yeah -- our preapproved rate was 7.7%, they were offering 11.7%. It gets better. My husband came with me on a Saturday to look at the car I was interested in and initiate the paperwork. We couldn't finish on Saturday, but our oh-so-friendly (at first) salesman Gary - who turned cold when next I saw him on Monday, persuaded me to come alone on Monday rather than wait to Friday when my husband could make it to finalize the deal. When on Monday before leaving my home for a 1.5 hour drive, I inquired of Gary how the financing process was going on their end, he said it was within "pennies" of what my preapproved rate was, so c'mon down! It gets better still. They wanted to charge me $500 to process my license plate (e.g., remove plates from my trade-in and put it onto my new "preowned" car. "The registration's good for four years," claimed Gary, which in fact is illegal because, in fact NJ only allows four-year registrations only on brand new cars; all else is for one year. And there's still more - since I had to apply alone b/c hubby wasn't there - although more than willing to come in on Friday - they needed an extra $1,000 downpayment from me. After much "discussion" they decided that they'd waive the extra deposit in return for an extra bank fee of $199. At that point I asked for my keys back and left. I'm curious thuough what they would have done with the trade-in offer they made me on Saturday, since on Monday they asked the same appraiser to give it the once over again. I'm quite sure the trade-in offer would have dropped. Don't believe their prices. They're dinosaur-variety used car salesmen that I thought went out with the flood. I drove three hours round-trip two times for this car, but I didn't mind leaving empty handed. I did, however, wash my hands thoroughly in the Starbucks down the street before heading home to wipe off the sleaze. They were the worst car dealers I ever dealt with in my entire life. They give Jeep Chrysler a bad name. I guess I should have known something was up when they did everything to deter me from bringing my own bank check (at lower interest rate) and from bringing my husband along. Thought they had the dumb little woman on the line. Too bad Chrysler didn't close them down.
    • In their zeal to secure financing (I didn't want or authorize) they must have contacted a zillion loan agents, which all show up on my credit report. I was cc'd on a letter from Chase saying they'd give me a loan if the dealer would drop price about a $1000. Seems the "collateral" wasn't worth it. In other words, Town and Country were also OVERCHARGING me on top of all the other nonsense they put me through.

We bought a used Grand Caravan from them yesterday. They told us that the price was 13,999, we negotiated down to 13,700 and 1900 for our trade. So our price was $11,800, right? Nope. After dealing with Terrance Kelly in the business office, who kept us waiting over 2 hours to "draw up the paperwork on the loan", we found that he had radically changed the deal-- the price was now listed as over $16K, plus $2500 for a extended warranty that we had agreed to, before tax title and fees were included. Long story short, the car eventually cost $26K, more than a new Grand Caravan.
    • That's his name -- the nasty finance guy. He had an attitude from the start. But Gary the salesman was 90 degrees cooler when I went in by myself on Monday than he had been on Saturday. I guess he knew what was in store. Curious though - why did you buy the vehicle instead of a new one somewhere else?

Be careful with the financing in Town & Country Jeep. They tried to force me to take a warranty in order to get a lower APR...They also tried to increase the price by an additional $1500 saying there were additional dealer fees...I would never trust this place. I would not even get my car to be serviced there. I bought the car after they agreed to give me the lower apr without me getting warranty, and after having them drop the $1500. The car is certified pre-owned so I plan on taking it to a better dealership to check the car out and make sure that the car is mechanically sound. Please take my advice. STAY AWAY FROM TOWN & COUNTRY.

Had a verbal agreement over the phone with a gentleman named Chris who was aware that my fiance, son, and I would be making a two and a half hour trip down. As soon as we arrived at the dealership we were informed that Chris had left (he claimed he'd be waiting) and were introduced to what sounded like Javi as he wasn't very clear when telling us his name. We walked over to the used car sales section, actually "javi" ran ahead, I'm sure to get a story straight or figure what line they were going to give. Upon hearing that we had our own financing the atmosphere instantly changed and the price was increased drastically on the vehicle. Joe, who appeared to be some sort of manager, was smoking in the building which was something my 8 year old son didn't seem to appreciate. Regardless, once called on their shady business practices I was informed by Joe that we had 2 minutes to get off of "his lot". The bald gentleman "javi" was beyond unprofessional and needless to say Joe who claimed to be a manager was the most unprofessional person and was visibly upset that we were not going to finance through the dealership. "Javi" claimed my check from the finance company was a fake, "like what publishers clearing house gives you" although it was a 100% legit check for 16500 from a very reputable finance company (the rest of the price we had cash on hand which apparently they had no interest in) I understand that this review is all over the place but it is literally mind boggling as to how a business can be so poorly run.

These people are the biggest [violative content deleted] in the business. I should have read the reviews before I went there. They and Judy the saleswoman agreed to an online price for a 2011 jeep. The finance woman was miserable to deal with and when we got disgusted and were leaving the smart mouthed [violative content deleted] behind the desk told us that they didn't care because they had other buyers interested in the jeep because it was his last 2011 model.
