Pleasant Experience Purchasing Impreza

I originally saw a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX on the Bertera website a couple of months ago, but decided I could find something cheaper on Craigslist. After looking at about ten different cars and realizing they were all either abused or rusty over the course of two months, I contacted Bertera and asked if they were negotiable on the 2002 WRX. They were very friendly, responding to my query instantly, and so I set up an appointment to go check out the car later that evening. I met with the salesman Jonathan who was very friendly and spent time with me and my wife giving us the background of the car. The car was in pretty good shape, minus a few blemishes expected of a more than ten year old car. Jonathan explained that the car was owned by the same owner, who purchased the car from Bertera new and had it serviced there consistently. After going for a test drive, I decided I wanted the car and me and Jonathan sat down to discuss the price. At no point did I ever feel pressure what so ever, which was really refreshing for a dealership. It was more of a "this is our best price, just let us know" situation, which made the buying experience very comfortable. Jonathan worked up the numbers and came out with a very competitive price. I asked him if they could do just a little better and after speaking with his manager, Jonathan told me they would meet my request. I was very happy with my purchase and Jonathan kept me updated over the next two days about registering, detailing, and inspecting the car. He clearly tried very hard to get me into the car ASAP and I was very grateful for that after having been without a car for 2 months. Overall, the experience was very low pressure, very quick, and enjoyable. Hopefully when I get out of law school, I'll be back to Bertera to buy a newer Subaru!

Bertera Subaru service

In late August, 2018, I downloaded and tried to install a map upate in my 2017 Subaru Impreza. It knocked the computer for a loop, leaving me with no navigation system or radio, and a message on the screen that said "Software update failed....." that wouldn't go away even when the car was turned off. This caused my battery to get so low I had to recharge it to start the car, On my first service appointment the technician tried to reboot the system twice, without success, so they ordered a new "radio" (it must be the whole computer). I had to ask the technician to remove a fuse so the message would go away and not run down my battery, but this didn't work, so he removed the radio. The new radio arrived in a short time and was installed in my second service appointment. Everything is now working properly. All this work was done under warranty.

I brought my car into Bertera Subaru for an oil leak repair. The car's engine has been recently been with a brand new 2014 bottom end 3 yrs prior, with all the recipes and paperwork. I have already brought the car to a respected shop when i first bought the car, to get a entire inspection for the motor. It was a very well built and healthy motor. At first, i brought my car into another mechanic shop to get an estimate and diagnosis on the fix. That shop quoted me a fix on the crankshaft seal which they found was the source of the leak. Being that Bertera Subaru was a full size dealership that estimated me a more affordable fix, i told them to once again diagnosis the oil leak and find where the leak was coming from. Over the phone, they told me that they have found the leak, which was the crankshaft leak. I confirmed and asked them to check everywhere to make sure nothing else was leaking. They confirmed that the crankshaft was the only spot leaking. The guy i talked to was Dean from Bertera. After charging me 570$ for the fix, they i picked up the car and paid for the fix, i noticed something was off about the car. At first, i made sure to check the oil levels before starting the car. The oil level was a whole inch above the maximum fill line. I thought that it would be fine, being that a "senior" technician worked on the car. I started the car up, and noticed that it was misfiring, backfiring, idling high (above 2k) and stalling out when i slightly tap on the gas. There was a check engine light on for the code P0336, crankshaft postition sensor. When i notified Dean, he had told me that the sensor had nothing to do with the fix that they had done, because the sensor is deep inside the back of the motor, while they only worked in the front timing belt area. He said that they were not responsible for the repair, being that it had nothing to do with them. He then proceeded to tell me to bring it home and drive it for a week, because it was just in its relearning stage and that it will go away. I argued and told him that there was definitely something wrong with the car and that i wanted to them to check it and get it fixed immediately. He told me that there was nothing they could do since it wasn't them. They had not notified me of the check engine when i was paying for the car, and went to go bring it home. The senior technician knew about it, but kept quiet, until we asked about it. We agreed to just take it home to drive for a week, but as soon as i drove off the lot, the car would not go anywhere in gears 2,3,4 and 5. It would not allow me to drive over 20mph, while the car jerked violently back and forth, misfiring idiotically. I drove back to the dealer in the emergency lane. That was when they said that they would take a look at it, but there wasn't much they could do for me. Not until i called up to Subaru of America and opened up a case on that situation. Once they got the phone call, they admitted to messing up the car, and agreed to fix the check engine with no charge. Dean reported to me, saying that it was indeed their fault, since they had broken a tooth of the crankshaft sprocket and i had to leave the car there once again. They have had my car for a week now, by the time i went to go pick it back up. Driving back home and into my garage, i noticed a huge puddle of oil at the same exact location. This time it was far worst. I brought it back to them, and they said they would take it look at it. I received a phone call telling me that the leak was coming from the oil pump, not the crankshaft seal, and that the car was all set and ready for pickup. I assumed that they had fixed the leak for me, and went up to pick up the car, but it was still leaking. The next day, on Saturday, i brought it back up and continued to argue with Bertera on why my car was still leaking oil. Glen, one of the head guys from the office came out to talk with us. He told us that he knew nothing about the situation on the car, and will have to see and check out the car on Tuesday. I agreed and left to go shopping. I got a call back 30 mins later saying that they will not work on the car because it modified, old, and worked on previously, which i stated the first day we brought the car in. Then they proceeded to tell me to go somewhere else because they wont work on it. I argued that i wanted the car fix, because i was already charged for the "fix" that they already did, and wouldn't take the car till the car's oil leak was actually fixed. They threaten me and told me that they would tow my car if i didn't leave, and refused to give me a refund, discount, or anything in my inconvenience to their unfinished work. After calling up to Subaru of America once again, they called Glen, and surprisingly, he magically knew exactly what was going on with the car, falsely claiming that the car had multiple leaks from the start, and that they were only obligated to do one fix. Which was false because i came to Bertera to get all the oil leaks fixed, and Dean had already confirmed that there was only one leak, that they will make sure to fix. ​Well upon final inspection(when i had time of course) a few weeks after they refused to fix the car, I've found the culprit for the leak. It was the crankshaft seal(if i can i would upload a picture), it was not seated correctly as it rubbed up against the gear.

I spoke with Holly in regards to trading in my crosstrek. She was able to explain the possibility of how I could attain a new loan and they would purchase my car in exchange for something I wanted. She then referred me to speak with Keith. Keith helped me purchase my 2013 BRZ and 2015 Crosstrek. Holly was aware of a 2014 Forester XT with the same milage of of my Crosstrek. They both agreed that it would be a suitable vehicle for me. I went on a test drive with Keith and was seriously psyched about the car. I knew that with this car I would be satisfied. After negotiations and consulting with Holly I knew that I felt confident enough that I was making the right choice. I have bought many cars so far and have not had such a good experience as I had with Bertera Subaru. I met with Keith Goldsmith to inquire about a Forester or an Outback. Keith took his time to explain everything to us. You get a different experience here. In the past I was used to dealerships with guys who game you and confuse you with numbers. At Bertera everything is detailed in front of you and it is all explained to you. There were no tricks or uneasiness about the transaction. This positive experience followed us from the sales to Dominick in the Finance Department. The car was ready when they said and in mint condition clean and ready to go. All the insurance legwork was done for us with no issues. The bottom line with Bertera is you walk in and everything goes smooth. I wish all dealerships followed the business model that they exhibit. Thank you Keith for an amazing experience!!

5 Star Sales, 0 Star Service

First i'd like to say that the sales department at Beterra Subaru is 5 Stars! Their service department manager is 0 Stars! I purchased a new 2015 Subaru WRX at Berterra in January 2015. In February I began having satellite radio interruption on my commute to work from Huntington MA. I made a service appointment and they found a loose connection and fixed it. The interruptions stopped. In April the interruptions (one day 7 interruptions in 11 minutes lasting up to 30 seconds each) resumed and I made another appointment. From the time I made the call Carlos and his service people all began telling me it was probably due to the nature of satellite radio and that I'd have to live with it. I have had 5 other vehicles with satellite radio and I still own 2 others (Ford Fusion and Nissan Titan) that do not experience the same issues regardless of the weather conditions and route traveled to work. When I picked up the car I was told there was nothing they could do and no repairs to the radio were necessary. I reached out and left a message with Carlos on a Monday. Didn't receive a call back so I contacted Shawn Sullivan (sales mgr) on Friday and he got Carlos on the phone. Carlos recommended lodging a complaint with Subaru and he'd call on Monday with the # to call Subaru. No call on Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday I reached out and was transferred twice to an extension that just rang and ran. On Wednesday I called and spoke to Shawn Sullivan again. Carlos came on the line and gave me the # for Subaru. I called Subaru and after waiting on hold for 20 minutes the rep began telling me XM Radio coverage varies and Carlos @ Berterra should be making the recommendations to solve the issue. The also asked me to contact Sirius XM to reset the radio which i did and the reset did not make any difference. The Subaru rep took my name and number and told me she would call Carlos. After 2 weeks I just got a call today from Subaru and she said Carlos made no recommendations to resolve the issue and no repairs are necessary. She continued on her rant that the interruption in service was probably due to the signal the satellites were sending. If this were true I would experience the same interruptions with my other 2 vehicles. Very Very Very Dissapointed in Subaru, Berterra Subaru and Carlos Balula their service manager.

My First Subaru!

Went to Bertera to checkout the Impreza wagon but realized it was too low for me. My salesman Brian Smuda showed me the XV Crosstrek which was a perfect. The new audio display unit was so new to me that Brian showed me through it in depth that I could understand. I received follow up phone calls to check in and make sure I was still understanding and enjoying my vehicle. Very pleased with the no pressure sales and value on my trade in. Would recommended to my friends.

Great Overall Experience

I honestly can’t say enough good things about our experience with Bertera Subaru, especially pertaining to our salesman Keith. Keith was very professional and really knew a lot about the Subaru XV Crosstrek we were looking at. He made the experience very easy and was not pushy like we experienced at other dealerships. Keith gave a follow up call a few days after we took delivery of our vehicle to make sure there were no questions and to make sure everything was going well. This was a call I didn’t expect to get and was pleased with the continued customer service even after taking delivery. I recommend Bertera Subaru to anyone looking for a vehicle!!!

Great Dealership and welcoming staff

This was my second car i bought from Stan. He always treated me good showed me a variety of cars I'd like. Test drove a few and got me into a car that i will enjoy for the coming years. He was very professional and helped out where he could. Funny i had bought a 2014 Crosstrek and it was a great car just i do a lot of traveling and needed something with a bit more power for the highway merging and get on and off. Besides that if i didn't have to do this I would have stayed with the Crosstrek. In the end i traded it in and got a 2014 WRX. it is a joy to drive!! One another note told my mom about this and she went in that week and got a Subaru that next week too. Go see Stan if you need a new car he'll get you in the car of your dreams. All New Englanders should own a Subaru!!
