Bait and Switch followed by no Hyundai rebate

byjonathan13on 05/09/2017

This was by far the worst car buying experience I have ever had. This is my 3rd purchase from this dealer and I expected to be treated fairly and honestly. This was not the case. I had a new salesperson who tried hard to answer my questions, but I honestly knew more about the vehicle than he did. Not his fault, I can look past inexperience. My issue is with the "Sales Manager" Garcia Wong who came in to assist him. I test drove the vehicle (top of the line Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Ultra) with the new salesperson. I told him this is Exactly the car I want but in the "Java Espresso" color. I even showed him the details off their own website. We discussed the $5000 rebate from Hyundai and the $1500 rebate from the dealership also on their website. I was quoted a fair payment (in line with my research on line) and I accepted the deal on the condition to actually see the car first. The new salesperson drove the car up to the front. I looked at the sticker price and I immediately saw it was the wrong car. Not even close; he brought up a base model Santa Fe with 0 add ons. I told him this was not the car and he went back in to get Garcia. Garcia came out and said they quoted me the price on the base model not the one we talked about? What? Are you kidding me? We only talked about the Limited Ultra, never about the base model. Garcia immediately blamed the new salesperson and said this model would be $7000 more than the price we agreed to. This is classic bait and switch. If I didn't check the actual car he would have been happy selling me a car we never discussed at a payment for the much more expensive model. I was very upset and they both "apologized" several times. Garcia said "let me try to work this out" and came back in a few minutes saying the payment would be $140 more a month. But because "we made a mistake, we will eat $40 of that", so you would have to pay $100 more a month". I was extremely upset at this point but I took him at his word. We sat down and talked more about the payment and what else he could do. He said he would throw in 1 year of free maintenance. He actually said "please don't tell anyone you got such a good deal because we are loosing money". I mulled it over for a while, talked to my wife and we begrudgingly decided to accept the offer. While they were off doing the paperwork I had such a bad feeling in my stomach. Something was still way off with the payment so I did some loan calculators on line and the numbers did not add up. When it was time to see the Finance Manager, Peter Eichholz I brought this up to him and he said "I have nothing to do with the deal, but what do you think is off"? I said "the price does not jive with my estimates on line and I'm not signing anything until I see all the details of the sales price and payments". He showed me the contract that Garcia wrote up and the price was over $5000 higher than my expectations (even over the sticker price). I told him that this price was not disclosed to me and upon further review I noticed the contract made no mention of the $5000 rebate from Hyundai. Peter left and came back within 1 minute and said "that was a coupon that you had to ask for". Seriously? I had to ask for a automatic $5000 HYUNDAI rebate that we talked about many times? Is this dealership for real? Peter took the $5000 off the sales price with no fuss (and no apology for the shady deal). Guess what? The price came back to almost exactly what we agreed to in the first place. There was also no mention of the "1 year service" agreement that Garcia promised, in the paperwork. Peter took care of this on his own and made it 2 years. I signed the new (original) agreed to price. As you can see this was a horrible experience and instead of leaving happy and excited I left upset and felt cheated and lied to. I will not be back to this dealership for future purchases.

Straight talk and a good price

When I was interested in a new car, I tried out a few dealerships that shall remain nameless. They were pretty much what I expected -- high-pressure salesmanship and I never even got to see the cars that I was interested in. When I tried Rte 2 Hyundai, all that changed. The salesman, Mark Casavant, came up to me and asked what I was looking for. I wanted a base model Hyundai Accent. He said that they are very rare, but he had the model with the comfort package in stock. I could try it out and, if I liked the ride but still wanted the base model, he'd try to find one in the area. Well, I decided that I liked the car as equipped. We discussed price, and came to an agreement on a price slightly below factory invoice. There was no pressure or games in the negotiations. The whole time from first getting on the lot to signing the P&S was less than an hour. Mark got the paperwork and dealer prep done while I was at work and I picked up my new car that evening. The entire process was about as painless as possible.

Internet Sales Process was effortless and painless

bytesla314on 08/19/2010

I had been looking for a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited w/Nav. Rte 2 Hyundai had the best price which made me a bit nervous that something would change during the sales process. I expressed my concerns that I wanted to double check that the car was in stock and the price was correct before I drove down. My sales person (Brian) double checked and assured me everything was in order. When I arrived on site I was pleasantly surprised that there were no high pressured sales tactics. Brian had the car out front and ready when I arrived and the sales process was very enjoyable. There were no changes to the original deal and financing that followed was just as painless. I was very happy with my whole experience and I will highly recommend this dealer.

Good, dependable service

byjonnoh2on 11/07/2008

I have brought my Hyundai Elantra to this dealership a few times in it's 100K+ life. I am still driving the car. At one point the check engine light came on and I had a few things fixed. The service manager explained to me in a non-condescending way how I might need more work. I asked if I could drive it for a while first and then I would get back to them if the check engine light came on again. Eventually it did come on and I brought it in. They fixed the problem and it hasn't happened since. The important thing you as the reader should take away from this post is that the service team at Route 2 Hyundai treated me with respect. I didn't feel like I was getting shafted and the service manager looked me in the eyes. I appreciated his straightforward answers about what repairs were needed, why they were needed, and how much it would all cost. I highly recommend anyone shopping for a Hyundai or getting service visit the professionals at Route 2 Hyundai in Leominster, MA. Thanks, JWB

Mr John the 2nd sonata from Rt 2

I have had my Sonata 4 cyl bought at the best Hyundai dealer in Ma for 21,K for about 20 months, the purchase price was great without the pressure you get from the big guys. The service dept gives you exactly that, service. That's while you sit on a comfortable couch drinking free coffee and watching a large screen TV. Go there you'l love the place.

Route 2 Hyundai in Leominster, MA

bygageman1on 09/08/2007

Since I am in sales, I travel all over New England and I would use spare time in the different towns and cities looking at cars. I got a lot of different types of sales people with different sales approaches, knowledge and prices. Route 2 Hyundai really was a special exception. Each sales person I met did not appear to be part vulture! I was given the immediate attention I wanted and it was not the high pressure I too also hate some sales people for. I was not pushed to look at the most expensive cars they had but I was given the chance to explain MY needs and desires in a vehicle. I continued to visit other dealers but still kept coming back to Route 2 Hyundai. Each sales person I met had the right training and attitude. I received a deal that even I as a salesman was way too embarrassed to ask for. They offered it to me. I honestly saved better than $1,000.00 over what the absolute bottom line another OWNER of a dealership offered me. I tried to drive a hard bargain and they did better than I ever thought possible!
