A Dealership Like No Other

bydmoskowitzon 06/04/2018

This is a long review, because my experience (maybe relationship is a better word) with this dealership grew and grew as my buying process became way longer than expected. If you don't want to read the entire thing, here's the Spark Notes: • This dealership will make you feel like family • This is the most honest dealership I've ever dealt with (and I've dealt with quite a few in various states). • This dealership genuinely cares about getting you what you want, even if that means more work for them, and potentially less profit. I was in the market for a compact SUV (CR-V, Forester, Rav-4, Tiguan, etc.). I go to school in New York so that gave me the opportunity to shop around both in Baltimore and in NY for the best price. This said, I cannot count the number of different dealerships I visited during this car hunt, and Heritage Owings Mills is by far the best dealership. The Tiguan (which I highly recommend) was the first car I test drove, and this dealership was the first one I visited. It was love at first sight, and I really could not contain my excitement. Some dealerships would have probably have used that to suck me into a bad deal, but it was quite the opposite here. Instead, they walked through my various options for trim levels, and encouraged me to sleep on it and not rush into anything. The salesman I worked with initially (Allen) told me that he's not one of those salesman that believes in nagging you to buy a car. I sort of brushed it off because we all know that car dealers have a certain reputation about them. Much to my surprise, however, he was true to his word, and that was the style that everyone at the dealership takes on. They make sure you know that they're there to help, but not nagging you. Here's where things get even better: the honesty of the salesmen and women at this dealership is unheard of in this industry. They didn't have the car that I wanted on their lot, and it's nearly impossible to track one down, but they worked endlessly to try to make a trade. Of course no one wanted to trade their precious gem, but Natt (the sales manager) continued to work. At the end of May they told me that they had the vehicle I wanted in the pipeline, but that it would not arrive until July 5. Allen, Natt, and I had discussed a price in passing a week or so prior, but now it was time to agree on the price. Much to my surprise, when they brought out the first set of paperwork, that was exactly the price they quoted me for (a very very good price too). When we discovered I was not eligible for one of the rebates that we initially thought I would be, they took the $500 rebate out of the paperwork, but didn't add a penny to my price. At that point, there were a few vehicles within 200 miles that I could have gone and purchased that day, but I felt that this dealership genuinely deserved my business because they had been so helpful in the buying process. I put a $1000 deposit on the vehicle, and the wait began. I thought the vehicle I was driving at the time would hold out until July, but it soon became clear that that was not the case. I went to Natt and explained the situation. With me sitting right in front of him, he called multiple dealerships in an attempt to make a trade, but we came up with nothing. I told him that another dealership about 40 minutes away had a vehicle, but it had an extra $1500 package on it. After it was clear that they wouldn't give up that vehicle, Natt looked at me and said something along the lines of "I want to see you get your car. We've already made a friendship. Go buy the car from them--we'll be able to sell the one coming July 5th no problem." At that point, I had two questions: 1. What did he think the value of that "$1500" package was, and 2. Could I get the deposit back? He told me that the resale value of the package would be at least 25% of its original value. At that point, I knew he was honest given what he'd just told me. Natt also told me that it would be no problem to give me my deposit back. Armed with his information, I was able to negotiate a great deal on the car from the other dealership. At that point I was incredibly excited about the new car, but felt bad because I genuinely wanted to give Heritage Owings Mills my business. Natt again assured me that all that matters is that I got my car, and that I'm happy. I will absolutely bring my new Tiggy here for service, and I look forward to working with them in the future. If you need guidance in your car buying process, know that what these folks say is honest and informed. I cannot recommend them enough!!!

Solid experience buying a 2018 GTI, would recommend to VW fans and others

bybielut18on 05/20/2018

I’m extremely happy with my experience at Heritage Subaru Volkswagen. Konstantinos Kohilas was my Sales Consultant. He knew the product very well. It felt good to buy a VW from a VW owner/driver. :) He respected that I knew what I wanted: a GTI in the Autobahn trim with black, red, or white paint. But he also made sure I didn’t have any outstanding questions. He took the time to line up the available cars, in the trim I wanted, right by the front of the dealership, in advance of my visit. I believe he even had one of the cars brought in from offsite - just for me to look at. I was able to compare colors without needing to walk around the lot. He was very easy going and kind. Mitchell Giller, the Sales Manager, was willing to work with me to make the purchase happen. Coming to an agreement on price was a fair process. He was responsive to my wants and transparent about what he could offer. I was treated quite well, in terms of the deal. Once I was ready to put pen to paper, Josh Jones, the Finance Manager did a great job explaining my financing commitment and the available add-on options. Buying scheduled maintenance was a good fit for me, so I went with it. The signing process was no-pressure and quick. Josh was efficient and friendly. I had to visit the dealership a few days after taking my new car to turn over the spare key to my trade. I saw Mitch and Josh that day (Konstantinos was off). They were very welcoming, wanted to know how I liked the car, and checked to see if there was anything else they could do. In the course of buying, I ended up mentioning a personal concern that was ongoing. Mitch made a special effort to check in with me days later to see if was doing OK. This was awesome. He genuinely supported me after purchase. In my own work, I try to express care. I don’t always know what kind of day someone is having, so I attempt to be nice. Maybe it will cheer them up if they are down. Or at least make less hassle for them. I like seeing that other people work this way: accepting, thoughtful, and friendly. I’ve bought VWs (and other cars) in the area and this is the best place for me to do it. I love cars, I’m particular. But I want to avoid hassle and confrontation. I want to deal with intelligent, nice people. Some of the dealers aren’t nearly as good. I’ve tried to work with one in Fallston. This other place was old fashioned, had minimal regard for my time, and made no acknowledgement of my familiarity with Volkswagens. My salesperson was nice, I’ll say that. But I had the clear impression the dealer just wanted to milk me for all I was worth and get rid of me. Not so with Heritage Subaru Volkswagen. They did well back in 2007. And did well this time too. They made it easy in the short term, and are interested in the future - which is smart and good for me. I plan to have this car a while. But when I do want something new, I’ll need somewhere to start shopping. It’ll be with these guys. As an aside, the Heritage facility itself was modern, clean, and easy to navigate - a comfortable place to do business. I highly recommend Heritage Subaru Volkswagen. I suggest starting your search for a VW with them, or, at least taking the time to speak with them if you’ve already started elsewhere. I dealt with nice people who readily supplied the car I wanted, and I feel good about the price.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE

byDONTANNEYTOWNon 05/13/2016

Jeremy Dedmon is to be recognized for his service. As a 76 year old not being able to do manual things, I was very happy with the service. My antenna had been broken off and he got back on and working. A smile on his face at all times. The waiting room was clean and comfortable. I will be back.

2015 GTI Purchase

byCJ45on 10/24/2014

Absolutely no haggling. Their new car price and the trade in value for my old car were just what my online research said they should be. And when I asked to swap the wheels and tires for a set on another vehicle they said no problem. Buying a new car should be fun and this was!

The service department recommends services that are not needed and does not perform proper diagnostics on vehicles that are under warranty despite charging $130 diagnostic fee. The general manager will make you feel as though you are not a valued customer. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this dealership.

No pressure, just answers!

bycalam8yjanon 08/22/2014

I came in to Heritage with a cert from Truecar.com. The salesman, Patrick, was very attentive without being pushy, took me for a long test drive, answered my million questions and shook my hand when I told him I was going to test drive a similar car at another dealer. He said, "Call me afterwards and let me know what I can do go help you buy this one from us." Went to the other dealer, liked the other model of same car and was about to purchase it but was unhappy with how the service manager & mechanic responded to my questions about the condition of the brake rotors (very dismissive). I thanked them and went back to Heritage and bought from them. No games, no bait & switch, no pressure, they reduced the price for some dings in the paint & some cosmetic issues. As the dealership is far from where I live, the extra plus is that I can take my car for service to a MileOne location that is 30 minutes closer to my home than Heritage. Highly recommend!

A Pleasant Experience and A Great Sale Person

byshirley2014on 06/12/2014

My brother and I had gone to another dealer and had selected a car to purchase ,but found the dealer not very informative about the upcoming sale price of this car. The sale price was not listed. The next day, we went to Heritage Mile One .While browsing and viewing their wide selection of cars ,we were greeted by the sales person , Chris P. After conveying all the options ,accessories ,and pricing ,he was very instrumental in aiding me to find exactly what I was searching for , including the two selections of exterior colors. We found Chris P to be very professional ,knowledgeable, and genuinely a real person; never pushy ,hovering, or pressuring. He made this experience a very pleasant one. I will/would recommend Chris to anyone who wants a great sale person and recommend Heritage Mile One. Also, thank you to Milton T for your help in madding the deal to purchase my car very pleasant.

XV Crosstrek purchase.

byNew_Subaru_fanon 03/08/2014

From the first visit to this dealer they were guaranteed my business. It is a smaller dealership and offered a more attentive experience from the multiple test drives to the finance office. While exploring other options, to include other Subaru dealerships, the competition paled in comparison. I would highly recommend Steve B. and his supporting team.

The test drive and service sold me

byTalGTIon 02/19/2014

I went to Heritage with the plans of test driving a GTI and possibly a WRX, planning not to buy for another few months and considering a few other cars. Patrick took me on the test drive and was both knowledgeable about the features of the car as well as its performance capabilities. The test drive was more than simply 2 minutes on the road with one exit on the highway, instead I really got to see what the GTI could do. He and his manager then stayed until midnight to ensure that I got a good deal on the car and I went back the next day to get the car detailed up to Patrick's expectations. About a 2 hour detailing service to make the car look beautiful. The customer service was great overall but he did an especially service oriented job.

VW Beetle TDI

byNicoBon 01/26/2014

I came to this dealership to test drive a Subaru Impreza WRX 5 door because I was set to purchase one. While waiting for my sales associate to bring the car around we were looking at the VW Beetle in the showroom. We were really impressed with the standard features the car came with & the esthetic of the interior. We noticed VW made body changes to the exterior that also made the Beetle more appealing & the price was very reasonable as well. I had never thought much one way or the other about VW. I loved the way the Subaru drove & after all I was in the market for an All-wheel drive. I decided to test drive the Beetle Turbo since I was there but only as a comparison. I was thoroughly impressed with the ride & pleased that all the features I wanted in the Subaru were "standard" with the Beetle Turbo. I decided to purchase the TDI model after spending time with my sales associate discussing & driving the car. Daniel was very easy going & pointed out all the pros/cons to the car & didn't sway me one way or the other. Ultimately I found a cheaper car at another dealership in VA & was going to purchase from them. Daniel & the GM called the dealer & picked up the car for me so all I had to do was go up the street to get my new car! I didn't even know that was an option. I gave him all my info for financing in advance because he said they could get all the paperwork ready so all I had to do was sign a few papers & we could drive away with the new car. Even better, right?! One of the worst things about purchasing a car is the waiting at the dealership for hours. When I arrived in the evening to pick up the car Daniel gave us the papers to sign which did go quickly. We just had to meet with the financing guy. What was suppose to be a half hour process was over 2 hours. The financier was never given our paperwork the day before or the day of so by the time we arrived the banks were all closed. This is the only part in the process that I feel Daniel dropped the ball. However, all in all it was a very pleasant experience. My car didn't come with a manual & when Daniel called to inquire about the car purchase I mentioned that I didn't have a manual. He found it at the dealership & drove it to my house. I absolutely LOVE my Beetle TDI & had never considered buying one before but I am so glad that I did...I also love the heated seats!! He staff was very friendly & service oriented, I never felt like they were pushy in any way & I also wasn't ignored. Having gone to several dealerships prior to Heritage VW in Owings Mills, I was either ignored or harassed with emails & phone calls. Everyone was a pleasure to deal with!

Couldn't have been better

bymattvermonton 01/08/2014

I had a wonderful experience with Heritage VW. I found a car there that was just what I wanted and travelled 350 miles to get it. I was picked up at a hotel in Baltimore by a delightful gentleman who has worked there for decades. Transaction was seamless, as we had already negotiated the deal by phone and online. The only problem, and it was no fault but mine in buying a diesel VW in way south of where I live in the winter. They fueled up my tank and I was headed home. Meeting temperatures in New England about 20 degrees below zero, quickly led to a car that would not start because of gelled fuel. You see, Northern diesel fuel is 'winterized' to prevent this, while fuel in warmer climates is not. All is well and I could not be happier. Thank you Norm and Brigette!

Heritage Subaru = Awesome

byKenh4on 12/13/2013

I should've learned from the past, but... I went to a different Subaru dealership before I went to Heritage and was severely underwhelmed, not with the product, but with the service I received on-site, on the phone, and through email. I remembered the great experience I had with Heritage Mazda and decided to try Heritage Subaru. Amazing experience. Friendly staff and knowledgable staff and a quick, low pressure process. I highly recommend using Heritage whenever you want to purchase a car and couldn't be happier with my new Subaru Crosstrek.

I would like to take this occasion to thank Mr. William L. for helping with my purchase of a brand new VW Beetle from Heritage VW at Owings Mills, MD. Mr. William L. went out of his way to answer all of my questions and assist in a smooth transaction. He and Heritage have also made themselves available for any future needs and questions. I have already recommended Mr. L. and Heritage to others and will continue to do so as this has been one of my best experiences in purchasing a vehicle. Very Poor Customer Experience

bygalahad1on 05/23/2013

Went to Heritage VW today with every intention of purchasing a new VW (i.e., pre-approved financing, dealer knew I was coming early PM, etc). When I arrived, all of the vehicles were blocked in or unable to be taken for test drives due to not being through the initial inspection. It literally took an hour before we were able to go out for a test drive. In contrast, when I arranged for a visit to Russell VW, the vehicle was sitting out front of their dealership with a "Reserved for" sign hanging from the mirror and I was going for a test drive within minutes. It was truly a shame as we were impressed with the vehicle but certainly not the dealership. We got our quote and cordially prepared to leave but the sales person wanted to introduce us to the sales manager. He went back to get the manager but to add insult to injury the sales manager was "predisposed" and unable to even greet us. This dealership must survive by their prices and certainly not their customer service.
