Validates the “used car” car buying experience

byReneeon 07/08/2018

Very disappointed In the car buying experience. For starters they failed to disclose a $1500 adder for interior warranty protection. While trying to understand the online quoted price they would not provide the appropriate break down nor did they disclose the $1500 fee until you arrived on site . While you battle to remove that pricing from the contract you’re losing sight of the true purchase price of the car. The manager was Extremly rude by asking me “what are you confused by?” Depending on who you’re talking to they have different definitions of what out the door pricing means .... hence my confusion. Even the out the door pricing they provided excludes hidden fees that they’ll slap on the contract in the finance office . I was never offered to put a down payment down, was never asked about extended warranty, was never asked to select the type of plates I wanted. Only a specific used car brought me to this dealer. Nothing will bring me back

byCuff9847on 10/30/2017

A few months back I was looking for a car and Brian had me come over to the dealership.. The used inventory was great and they even worked with me on the price and got me financed with really no hassle at all.. Love my car and have no problems with it. Brian took good care of me so ask for him when you go in!

Thank you Brian Erlenbach

byChriswilson12on 10/30/2017

My wife and I leased our 2016 Acura RDX from Brian Erlenbach 2 years ago. That guy was the most helpful and got us the best deal. He was knowledgeable, friendly and most importantly he was professional. He didn’t feel too pushy or like he just wanted a sale. I’ve been in contact with him since then and we are ready to trade our 16 in and get an 18. Thanks for all of the help!!

Deceptive, Cheating

byHopkinsFamilyon 03/18/2017

2004 MDX, Taken in for service by my daughter for oil change and vehicle check due to skeaking noise in steering wheel. She was given a list of items to replace/repair and was told by service rep that within a couple of days vehicle steering wheel wwould lock and she would not be able to drive. Well when we got vehicle NEXT DAY the steering was tight and vehicle was harder to manuver. My husband test drove vehicle and noticed difference. He checked and Power steering fluid had been drained from vehicle. I took vehicle to dealership because I wanted a HONEST opinion of items needing attention, only to have them take advantage of a young 20 year old female who looks 16. Anyone who takes vehicle in should be given fair honest service and recommendations. I am very disappointed with the dealership do to this service. Acura Downtown is not to be trusted.

CHEATING

bylawrence21on 01/24/2017

Lou Soluri sold me a used 2015 TLX V6 Tech with 3300 miles for $35k, the buying experience was unbelievable, totally cheating, Lou told us two keys when he was selling, we found a scratch on the door and Lou promised he has people in the body shop will get it buffed, would look perfect, no worries at all. all sounded good, after we signed everything, it turned out there was only one key and no book, when we came back with appointment for repairing the scratch, Lou said can't do it as the manager Adam wouldn't approve it, and gave me a touch up pen, ended up touched it up myself. it was full of lies. and then went 3 times to pick up the second key that was never ready, finally they made a key while I was waiting for 2 hours, months later found out it was a wrong key, went back to Lou and he rudely told me he not gonna cut another key or I have to pay, asked for manager Adam and told me the same, now I'm stuck with two driver 1 keys, memory seat setting 2 became useless, have to manually adjust the seat every single time get in the car as it automatically goes to setting 1 when it detects both keys as driver 1 key. One more thing, Lou doesn't know about the cars he sells, be careful with what he tells you, you could tell when he talks, because he showed me a used TSX and said it was V6, I found out it was a 4 cylinder engine when we opened up the hood, actually he didn't even know how to open the hood, I helped him opened it, unbelievably unprofessional and rude. I still remember Adam told Lou to shut up with a f word inbetween in front of us when Lou tried to talk to me while Adam and I were having a conversation. Couldn't believe it

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

byjewing5on 04/22/2016

I purchased a used vehicle from McGrath Acura on November 28, 2015. By January'2016, a bit over a month later the car broke down due to over heating. I cantacted the used car manager at McGrath and I was told "the car was sold as is and the only thing we could do to help you is offer you cheap labor". I didn't have time to wait around and see what this "cheap labor" would be like so I had my vehicle serviced by a reputable mechanic. I paid $750 to repair my vehicle. It was a BMW X3 so I thought to myself "that's the cost of this type of vehicle". I wasn't too upset because I was able to get back to driving my vehicle. THEN not even a month later the car broke down AGAIN! I was driving home from work in the middle of rush hour traffic when the car just stopped. I was nearly rearended due to the sudden stop. I paid to have the car towed him and then paid to have the car towed to the local BMW dealership. After attempting to fix my vehicle I was told that this vehicle should be taken back to the dealership I purchased it from. The the representatives at BMW told me it was absurd to have this many problems from a vehicle I'd owned for merely 3 months. I spent $1100 only for the vehicle to still be non drivable. So I cantacted McGrath and informed them about the issues. The used sales manager at McGrath offeredd to tow my vehicle to a "reputable mechanic" when asked if this mechanic was a certified BMW mechanic I received no answer. However, I agreed to have the vehicle towed and checked out by the mechanic. I figured there are serious issues with the car so it can't hurt to have it looked at AGAIN. After this mechanic checked my car out he told the mangers at McGrath that the car was in such bad condition that he didn't want to touch it and he recommended sending it BACK to the BMW dealership that worked on it. Remember, the BMW dealership told me the car was not worth a dime more being spent to attempt to repair it. So it is now April 22, 2016 and my vehicle is still at this "reputable auto shop" I have not seen my vehicle since March I have not driven my vehicle since February. I contacted the general manager he offered to pay one and a half months worth of my car note. Despite the car being non-drivable for nearly 3 months. I contacted this manager again asking what more can be done to assist me and when I could expect my car to be returned to me. The manager told me "I'm sorry I've done all I can do", I reminded him that I was told my car would be returned to me after it was diagnosed by their "reputable mechanic", the one who said it needed to be taken to a BMW certified mechanic, it was to be towed back to my home. Well, I still haven't gotten my vehicle back, aside from the small check that didn't come close the the amount of money I've spent to try to repair (over $2000 since December) these guys at McGrath have been no help at all. This has been the worst car buying experience ever! The least these guys could've done was give me a loaner vehicle to get back and fourth to work while they had my vehicle in their possession for a month and did absolutely nothing to attempt to repair it.

Avoid this dealership at all costs. (SLEAZY salesmen)

bycarbuyer291on 03/14/2016

This dealership isn't worth spending you time at. The sales representatives at this dealership eps. Spiro Kontaris are sleazy and untrustworthy. Sprio committed to a price on Acura RDX, the dealership at that point had 3 cars available with them for the specified price. One of it was standing right outside the doors which he had pulled up for a previous client, who ended up not buying it from what I saw. After much deliberation when I agreed on the price, Spiro went and talked to the dealership manager and came back saying the car they have is 700miles driven and has additional accessories on it. And it wasn't the one standing outside on which we had agreed in the deal. The car they wanted to sell was somewhere else with additional accessories and they wanted to charge for those. He then asked me look at the other two cars, although they weren't the color we wanted but we were fine, after some debate when I agreed he tried to bring in now new prices further increasing the car cost. And later blatantly denied selling any car at the agreed price. Note during all our discussion the store manager was standing outside near in the lobby to see how the discussion went ahead when they went back on their price. Definitely not the values I would like see at business anyone deals with.

Dont go here

bydanl0011on 10/26/2015

Horrible experience purchasing a new TLX. Sales person was extremely disorganized and would disappear for 15 minutes at a time and it happened at least 5 times. He had no idea which vehicles were in stock and kept leaving to check. I was there for 5 hours and by the end when they brought my TLX out to me, they had clearly rushed since the gas tank wasn't even full and the battery died before I could even drive out of the parking lot. They thankfully replaced the battery but I thought they should have given it more of an inspection before delivering to a customer. Also the price negotiations were a little shady. They originally quoted an inflated price including 2x what the taxes/title/license actually were. They settled on a lower price, but it turns out its the same lease price as advertised on acura.com, despite their whole song and dance about how slim the margins are on the purchase. Do not trust anything Spiro says. His entire business is convincing you they aren't making money and to pay as much as possible. Just keep that in mind!

These guys will not provide a price quote. Period. What they do is offer to beat any other deal. Oldest trick in the book. Not worth bothering with. Folks leaving glowing reviews either paid way too much or are shills.

Never Go to this dealership!

bytoddmattenon 11/30/2014

Never had an experience like this before....Worst Experience EVER! Worst Dealership Ever! Mr. Mcgrath Jr./SR. Noble Jones (GENERAL MANGER), Robert Buscemi (SERVICE ADVISOR), and the Service Managers are the most corrupt and disrespectful people I have ever met. I suggest buying and taking your car for service to any other car dealership in the city. In a nut shell, they stole my car. Hopefully, I will file a civil lawsuit against this dealer and Eagle Collision/Primos Auto Repair (3909 W Grand Ave, Chicago). I have a tremendous amount of evidence against them, and Mcgrath is 100% responsible for this situation. I'm also filing consumer affairs and BBB complaints, as well as complaints with the ACURA CORPORATION. I leased a 2013 Acura ILX from Mcgrath Acura of Downtown. A semi truck rear ended me going 15 miles an hour and dented my bumper. I brought my car to this dealership to simply get my bumper repaired. The service advisor, Robert Buscemi, brought my car to Eagle Collision, which when you go to the body shop has a sign that says Primos Auto Repair. Eagle Collision is in a very bad neighborhood of chicago and it is littered with gangs, drugs, and violence. Make a long story short. Leroy at Eagle Collision decided to fix my entire car, every inch of it, so now my bill is about 4,000 dollars, instead of 800 for a simple new bumper. Leroy and Rob Buscemi and Noble Jones, don't understand what they did. Now, McGrath Acura and Eagle Collision wont return my car to McGrath of Downtown. Leroy and Eagle collision wont release it. And to make things better, they only want cash. Leroy sent me an email saying "Dear Customer: Your invoice-4486 for 3,895.40 is attached. Please remit payment at your earliest convenience. BECAUSE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES ONLY CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED. Thank you for your business - we appreciate it very much. A month later, I decided to pay my bill. I picked up my car at eagle collision. When i dropped of my vehicle it said on the service ticket that they would throw in a free oil change. I never even got that. When i posted a few negative comments online, Mr. MCgrath, NOble jones, and jOn christenson all tried calling me. Before none of them would speak or help me. And after speaking to the owner of the dealership, he still didn't help me. THey dont care about people they care about money!! I contacted Jon Christenson, the service director, that guy called me back and left a message saying, "Todd if you want to make a deal call me in 30 mins" who are these people? Crazy...Its like my car was kidnapped and held for ransom. Stay away from this dealership!

Excellent Dealership

byknr5on 02/01/2014

I purchased a 2013 Acura TL SH-AWD with the Technology Package in March of last year. I made the trip to Chicago all the way from Iowa because I wanted manual transmission in my car, and these were hard to find -- there were none in Iowa, perhaps a couple each in Minneapolis and Chicago. I traded in my 2006 Infiniti G35 sedan (6MT) for the new car. It definitely was worth the trip. The dealership facilities are excellent and their personnel are professional. The GM (Mr. N.) and the salesman (Mr. T.) were very reasonable and pleasant to deal with. The financing (via Acura Finance) was a breeze, handled competently by the Business Manager. Had I been a resident of Chicago, I would have liked to have spent more time familiarizing myself with the help of the dealership personnel with all the technical do-dads my car has. I am enjoying my new car more every day!

Definately worth the drive from WI to MCGrath Acura of Downtown Chicago

bywi_rdxon 09/27/2013

Ask for Thomas W. III - Senior Sales Representative!!!! Wow! I found my dream car online and had the pleasure to work with Thomas W. III at McGrath Acura of Downtown Chicago.....I am SO glad I made the drive from central WI. Thomas has integrity, is honest and fun. Thomas made the entire auto shopping experience great; from the online search, the initial quote and all the way to the final purchase Thomas W. III kept my best interests in mind and took exceptional care of me. This was the first car I purchased outside of WI and Thomas made certain all the details were in order. The title even arrived from the state of IL within 10 business days and the team at McGrath Acura and Thomas really know how to treat customers from their neighboring state of Wisconsin. Check out McGrath Acura of Downtown Chicago, ask for Thomas W. III and love the experience of buying your new or used Acura!!! jal

Great experience

bystevenroseon 11/10/2012

I purchased a 2013 Acura ILX about a week ago and I was very pleased with the service I received. Bill, the Sales Associate was very cheerful and upbeat. He also was not very "pushy". Frank, the Finance Manager was very efficent and I thought he was very upfront and honest. He did not try to push all these additonal "add ons". I was disappointed that the license plate frames were put on crooked and that I had to go back. There was a young women that went thru all the features of my car with me and she was also very nice and helpful.
