Sold a dirty car, won't clean it

byScott15351on 05/24/2017

They were ok during the purchase process, although it still took three hours after the deal was made for some reason. I noticed when I first checked out my new Sienna that the interior, especially in the rear seats was very dirty. Smudges all over the place, and debris on the floor of the cargo area. The salesman Aamir assured me it would be detailed before I left. The manager Bill and another salesman Patrick Williams also promised it would be fully detailed. I took their word and because they kept me so long, it was dark when I left and I didn't inspect the interior. The next day I saw how dirty it was. I tried to set up an appointment with them to have it detailed, but they were unresponsive. Only after I filled out a survey from Toyota describing my experience did Patrick Williams call me to complain about my survey. Patrick Williams claimed on the phone that told me I would have to come back during the week to have my Sienna detailed, which is not true. I have been trying to contact Toyota Kearny Mesa and Patrick Williams specifically, but Patrick Williams is ignoring my calls and e-mails. They're actually not the worst dealership I've dealt with. Aamir was a nice guy, and Robert was pleasant to deal with. If you do decide to shop here, you should know that their detailing crew does not work on weekends, so if you buy on a weekend you'll probably leave with a dirty, despite what they tell you. And once they have your money, they'll ignore you.

Scam! Got a different vehicle than the one promised!

bydisappointed34on 05/04/2010

The purchasing process was long and painful....never had such a draining experience. Be careful, when leasing, there are additional cost that are not disclosed to you, until you are sitting at the finance office ready to sign. Coverage that is standard on other leasing agreements (like GAP) is additional here so be sure to ask for all costs, your final monthly payment will be the sum or your quote plus some additional charges. If they don't have the car on stock and will trade it, make sure to get a copy of the car specifications. I got a different car than the one originally offered, after negotiating price and spending a lot of time and effort on this deal I end up receiving a different product (not all the features I was promised). They said I was confused and that this one feature was not included in the car, but I'm 100% sure it was I just couldn't prove it since I did not receive written specifications. Again make sure to have a written copy if you decide to buy a car that is not available. I did not found out until I had sign all papers and was ready to drive home. It was at delivery that I found out the car was not what I have been promised, because I was exhausted and had invested so much time in the deal I did not cancel but I should have, not getting what you are promised it's an scam! Total lack of business ethic! If you decide to go and they trade please ask for a copy of the vehicle specifications so this doesn't happen to you. Also you should do some research first, they will not offer to you any of the Toyota deals unless you ask for them.

Previous KMT Customer, but not again

bydog144on 01/25/2009

Salesman seemed as though I was a burden to his time. Not very conversant. Seemed like he was giving me pricing information because he "had to". Felt uneasy being in the establishment. Have bought cars there before. Seems now the outfit is so big it's "above the customer". I contacted twelve dealerships looking for the model we sought. KMT's price ranked #9 with all others (12 being highest). I recontacted KMT to seek an adjustment to his price; no dice, price "firm". Accordingly, no deal with KMT.

Refused to honor written agreement

bydj928on 01/16/2009

Kearny Mesa Toyota advertised a specific price on a vehicle in stock, which I was made aware of by the fleet manager. It was advertised for Sunday, but the fleet manager extended the offer to me in writing (by email) while I got a cash down payment and loan approval from my credit union. He also offered to add leather for a written agreed upon price. Within 38 hours, I had the cash downpayment and loan approval. I went to the dealer and accepted the fleet manager's offer. The vehicle was still on the lot and they took me for a test ride. The sales manager told my salesman that the offer I'd been given had expired on Sunday. I explained the written agreement to extend the offer and the leather price. The sales manager said the leather price was incorrect and it would be an additional $198 dollars. I said that wasn't the agreed price, but I'd accept the change. He said he'd have to call the GM about the other agreement. About 20 minutes later the sales manager said the offer would not be honored. He said the fleet manager did not follow protocol and did not get approval to make the offer. He acknowledged that the agreement had been made, because the sales manager checked the fleet manager's email. But, they still would not honor the written agreement. I took a day off work to make this deal and spent 5 hours on the lot with my wife and young child to have them refuse to honor a previously written agreement. They said they could make the deal if I paid an extra $1300 or so dollars. I explained that I felt the actions of their fleet manager was beyond my control, but a written agreement had been made. If nothing else, customer service would dictate their honoring this agreement. They said no and we left. We were stunned at this blatant rescinding of an offer by their fleet manager to a customer. I had purchased a new car from this lot before, and they were aware of that. Your word is who you are, but a written agreement is a contract. This falls within the "bait and switch" parameters, but at the very least, it was outrageous customer service. We remained shocked the whole 50 minute drive home and wondered how a dealership could treat customers in such a fashion. My biggest mistake was not researching in more detail the ratings of this dealership. There are poor ratings all over the internet.

3 time Kearny Mesa Car Buyer

byhappyminvanon 10/14/2008

I could not be happier with this dealership. I have purchased 3 cars (2 new 1 used) with the help of the sales staff at Kearny Mesa Toyota, and look forward to working with them in the future. When I out grew my Camry and needed a larger car to accommodate my growing family (before my lease ended) the staff at KMT bought my car, for $1000 more than I owed on it, they dealt with Toyota to pay off my old lease and I was able to drive off in my new minivan that day. The staff took the time to explain everything to me so that I was able to get into a car that would meet my needs now & in the future. I have two small children, not a lot of time, and the staff understood that my time was valuable. They are awesome!!!

Run away from this horrible dealership!

bysteviejean42on 08/27/2008

They promised me a car on delivery Sept 7th for $24, 000 on the phone. When I got there, the games began. I spoke with "Troy" on the phone at Kearny Mesa Toyota in San Diego, CA. He quoted a price for a Prius, I repeated his price, he confirmed it and asked me to come in immediately to leave a down payment. I did. I arrived within 15 minutes. Then, they made me sit in the sales area for 20-plus minutes. While I was there, I called other dealerships and got quotes. Finally, a salesman comes out and gives me the routine that "Troy," the very same Troy who just asked me to rush over, is at lunch. He does the fake phone call to Troy and then the fake "let me check with my manager." The kicker was, nearly 25 minutes after waiting, the bait-and-switch guy gives me the price and it is $949 more than quoted by "Troy." Do you think Troy doesn't know the sticker price? Do you think $949 sounds different on the phone than in the sales room? The sales manager, all the while, stood behind but watched the interaction, ready for the fake intervention. We've all seen this tactic again and again. The worst part is you disrespected my time by dragging me out on something you promised on the phone, but never intended. Why would you think anyone would want to get into a financial transaction that begins and ends with a lie? It totally destroys the Toyota brand and my question to you, Toyota of Kearney Mesa is: Is it worth $949 to you to treat me this badly? It isn't to me. I left and will never return. Stay as far away from this dealership as you possibly can.

Excellent Service

bykvaillancourton 02/02/2008

You will find professional service at KMT. I have used them for over 5 years for service on 4 Toyota cars/trucks. The only issue; since they are good they can be busy at times. So if you have to wait, be patient. Scott Bucker is the Service Director; always available for any questions. Sherry Branham is the best service writer I have every encountered; straight, honest, does what she promises. If she is not available, most of the others are good. I have spoken with most and feel comfortable recommending them
