Same time and shop elsewhere
I visited Maita Subaru on Aug 13. This dealership has a car similar to one I was checking out at another store, a Forester, so I thought I would expand my options. My initial impression wasnt bad because the sales people were at the front door ready to greet people. We arrived shortly after opening so it wasnt busy yet and we wanted to move along quickly. We were directed to work with Sheldon Haynie, and we had a terrible experience. Here's why: 1) Sheldon did not want to accept the way we wanted to finance our car even though our preferred method is acceptable. He was extremely pushy in having us finance through Chase or through the dealership to our credit union. My partner and I made it clear that we planned to pick up a check to pay for the car multiple times. After I repeatedly told him no, he proceeded to explain the same exact thing to my partner who also told him no. After we both said no, he asked the same question in a different way. There was a point in this process where it felt like he was trying to turn my partner and I against each other. 2) When we arrived around 9:15 AM, I asked if my car could get appraised because that would factor into our decision. Sheldon pushed off the appraisal because he wanted us to get into cars to test drive. I asked several times but he kept pushing it off. By 11 AM, we had to leave because we needed to run an errand downtown before 12. By this time we had test driven two cars but mostly spent time waiting in the office for answers to questions. 3) It took a very long time for basic things to happen. At first we were patient. It took nearly 30 minutes for Sheldon to fetch the car we were interested in from their sister dealership down the street. Soon we saw it was a trend though. It appears sales people can't provide answers to questions without consulting the store manager. Whenever we had a question, we waited a minimum of 15-20 minutes for answers. Considering we were the only customers in the store, this seems like an extreme waiting period. When we returned from our errand around 12:15/12:30, the appraisal was just finishing up. We spent another 3 hours at this dealership trying to get clear answers to our questions which was impossible. 4) The two cars we were comparing were very similar so we said we would go with the one that could provide the better price. Apparently I do not have the same understanding as out the door price. Sheldon included our down payment in the out the door price. My understanding is out the door is what I am responsible for paying. It felt like a sneaky way to trick people that don't look at a price closely enough. There was also nearly $400 in general fees that Sheldon described as DVM fees but would not break them down. This is in addition to taxes. The pricing felt ambiguous. 5) We took a walk and decided we didnt feel comfortable with a dealership that was trying to strong arm us into paying a price with sneaky fees and salesmen that appear to operate without ethics and consideration for the customers. When we told them that we were not going to proceed with the purchase, they scrambled to keep our business and suggested a new car instead. A new car was never in our budget, and that was something we had communicated early on in our visit. The dealership is unable to accept no as an answer. Early on and throughout my visit, I made it clear that I did not want to participate in receiving their marketing emails, yet I have received several emails from Sheldon over the past nearly two weeks. I asked Sheldon 3 times and the store manager once to stop contacting me. It wasnt until I told Sheldon that I felt harassed that he responded to my request. In person, Sheldon promised that he would not add me to marketing emails yet he admitted that I was on a list in his most recent email and that I could unsubscribe. Save yourself time and avoid this dealership unless youre ready to be scammed or harassed if you choose to not buy a car.
Ethical sales staff
My wife and I honestly told salesman Jeff Osborne that we were deciding among 3 vehicles, 2 Subarus and 1 Toyota. We had our test drives of the Subarus and told him we were going to test the Toyota then discuss and decide. No pressure from him to make an immediate decision. Great guy, feel sad that we decided to buy the Toyota instead of one of the Subarus.
Bought a Lexus RX330 from Maita Subaru and we were very happy with the purchase. They delivered on everything they promised. After looking for months I was very familiar with what a good deal was and we feel we got that from Maita Subaru, the price was even as good or better then most private party sales. The salesman was Jim T. and he's not a hard sell type guy, very personable and I felt that he cared, obviously they want to maintain a good reputation. Highly recommend Jim.
I am not a frequent car buyer (who is?) and I was sure to do my research online before considering buying a car. I was initially set up to buy a car from a local dealer in my area (Stanislaus County) however called Maita on a whim and they ended up offering me a deal the other place declined to match. Needless to say, I bought my car from Maita, despite the distance... They were very friendly and willing to work with me to get my business and did not feel they were trying to manipulate the sale in any way after they agreed to a base price (which was over $1,000 less than the prior dealer had offered. No strings or fluff, just a very positive experience with both the salesman and their finance person --- left the lot very satisfied :) I would recommend this dealer to anyone who is looking for a Subaru and in favor of fair competition and negotiations with friendly people.
They were competitive, however they were undercut buy Elk Grove.
Maita Subaru has NOT PAID ME for the car they "bought"2+ weeks ago
This is a worst nightmare situation. I "sold" my car July 1 - today is July 16 and THEY STILL HAVE NOT PAID ME. BUT THEY ARE SELLING MY CAR! [violative content deleted] They lie, they avoid, they insult -- it's just unbelievable. They give nonsense answers and refuse to admit they CAN pay me, they just don't want to (classic: I asked how it works when someone trades in a vehicle and walks out with a new one.. and was told - actial quote, I made sure to write it down - "Look, I don't want to be put on the spot, I have 4 people waiting for me". this was from Al Palmer. I have been put through to service technicians instead of financial officers [violative content deleted] This list is truly endless. I am willing to discuss more if anyone has any questions. No one ever calls back, no one is available... After talking to a car salesman (for BMWs) it may be that they are having cash flow problems.... and can't pay me until they sell the car. if this is the case - stay away, because you will get some similar form of treatment, whether buying or selling. Desperation makes people ugly, and these guys are hideous 9although I do not know why they are doing this! but, yes, they are hideous). I just cannot believe I am experiencing this, I don't think I should have to -- and I don't want you to, either.
Car Buying Made Easy
The purchase of our Subaru Legacy was by far the simplest car purchase we've made in 20 years. My husband located the car online, made contact through email, and closed the deal with a phone call or two. Al and DJ held the car for three days until we could make the 2 1/2 hour drive to pick it up. When we arrived the car was exactly as described, which has not been our experience with previous purchases from other dealerships. Paperwork was completed quickly with the finance department and we were on our way. Everyone we talked with at the dealership was friendly and pleasant, beginning with a recommendation on where to eat lunch and ending with a thorough "walk-through" of our new car. This is how car buying should be everywhere!
Knowledgable and great experience
Great sales team. Frank McCarthy really knows everything about Subaru and went beyond the normal call of duty all the way thru the sales process including walking thru the set-up of the car and important emergency information. Competitive pricing and great experience. Highly recomended
I just wanted everyone who reads this review to know that the sales and finance team at Maita Subaru are absolutely wonderful! All of my questions and requests were answered in a timely fashion, and everyone who I interacted with was more than willing to help. I felt that I was more than just another number to wait on. I explained to the salesman my situation and he went above a beyond the call of duty, so to speak, to help me put me in the car that I wanted. There website is wonderful to use, as the pictures of the car that I did buy looked exactly as they did on the website. I am very happy. The next car I buy will be a brand new one from none other than Maita Subaru! Thanks again everyone!
Great Sales Dept
Bought my wife's Forester here last July. Got a good price and decent financing. Only complaint was after the deal was done, I never heard from them again. No follow-up call or anything. But the sale itself went super painlessly. I had originally stopped in to look at a used Forester, but it had already sold. I looked at a new Impreza and new Forester, and filled out a finance app, then headed on to Reno (where we live). They called later in the day with my approval, but I wasn't ready to commit to anything yet. Two weeks went by and my wife's existing car started acting up, so I called them back and said hey you guys still have my loan approval? Yep. Will you still sell me a new Forester for the price we discussed earlier? Yep. Cool, I'll be there in a few hours. Showed up, picked a color (only two to choose from a the time, unfortunately), and an hour later I was on the road with the new car.
I bought a WRX hassle-free via the Internet sales department in 2004. I go there regularly for oil changes on Saturday mornings which range somewhere between $25-30. It can get busy (they open at 7:30 am and if you get there right at opening there are usually 5-6 people waiting already.) I've never had any problems and the service is, in general, reasonably fast. They offer to run the car through their car wash but this will take quite a bit longer. It isn't a detailing -- it's more of a quick touch-free rinse. The waiting area is decent, with wireless internet access, telephones, flat-screen television, and free coffee. There was a warranty issue about 6 months ago involving the idler pulley. They fixed it in a day and gave me a loaner so that there was minimal disruption. I was pleased with their courteous and professional service. Lea Caputo is the service adviser there and she's great. Fast, friendly, efficient. What more could you ask for?
