Culture of Dishonesty-Stay Far Away From This Place

byModelcitizen19on 05/16/2017

I want to make it very clear that I am not reacting irrationally and I have given Escondido Toyota every opportunity to make my experience right over several weeks. I think it's important to let other consumers know what is going on at this dealership. At best, they are dishonest. And at worst, they are trained and directed to steal from their customers. To make a very long story short, I was tasked with helping one of my employees purchase a new 2017 4runner. She has excellent income, good credit and had up to 15k cash down payment. This should have been the easiest deal this sales team had ever come across. Instead, they attempted to absolutely rob this girl blind. Lorenzo, who is the assistant sales manager can only be described as [non-permissible content removed]. It's guys like him that give care salesmen bad names. He qouted this girl almost a $900 monthly payment on a 35k loan. When I asked him to break down the costs for me, he refused. I asked him for the rate? He refused. I asked him for the amount financed. He refused. In short, he couldn't describe to me why the payment was so high because he simply didn't want to. This dealership is totally predatory. They feed on people who have no knowledge of math or who will not question them on their shady numbers. Eventually, after refusing to actually answer my questions, outside of their scripted 3 lines they are taught to say to defuse a customers questions, he simply walked out of the room and said he was done. I was shocked to see such a large dealership for such a large manufacturer act in this manner. In other words, if they couldn't rip me off, they'd rather just not sell me a car. I spoke to the GM, and while he seemed like he was going to be helpful, he didn't really put in the effort to help me or fix the situation. The problem with this dealership is the culture they are breeding there. It runs all the way down from the owner/GM to the sales managers, to the finance managers down to the sales people. Lorenzo in particular is [non-permissible content removed], who wouldn't even look me in the eye because he was lying to blatantly. We decided to go to Carlsbad Toyota and she was driving her new 4runner within an hour or two. Carlsbad did not have the car she wanted but they were able to get one from a nearby dealer within about an hour. I'd like to show you the details and differences of the two deals below: Escondido: Trade in value: $1500 Payment: $859.00 per month Amount Financed: Who knows Rate: never could find out, but my calculator was spitting out about 20% Time taken: about 7 hours in 3 trips Carlsbad: Trade in Value: $2700 Payment: $500.35 Amount Financed:$30,265 Rate: 5.90 Time: about 2 hours Summary: Anyone who buys a car from this dealership should have their head examined. They are [non-permissible content removed]. They are breeding a culture of dishonesty that runs so deep, they would need to clean out their entire sales and management staff and wait a few years before they can clean off the stink that is attached to them. This group of misfits have no business representing a fins company like Toyota, one in which my father in law worked for almost 20 years. It's obvious that management reads these reviews but has absolutely no plans on changing the culture there. Hey Lorenzo, I'm sure I'll see you at some Job Fair soon because with an attitude like yours, not only will you soon be unemployed, but your chances of success in ANY industry are nill. Thank you Carlsbad Toyota for treating my employee with the respect and dignity she deserves. Not only will I never recommend this Escondido dealership to anyone I know, I will go out of my way to make sure nobody I know every buys a car or gets service from this wasteland.

Great Walk-In Service

byGage_Mon 09/06/2017

Bob Martin was the man who worked on my Tacoma and he was not only quick and efficient, but also very personable. Manny was my service attendant and he made the process go incredibly smooth, keeping me comfortable while my truck was being worked on. Car trouble can sometimes be a horrible day, but these two made up for it.

Long waits and incompetent service

byshepherdcaon 03/14/2014

I have purchased a 2006 and 2011 prius from TofE and referred many people their way. I was going to purchase a CJ Cruiser within next 6 months from them and new Prius within next 2 years from them. Yet due to the last 3 service department experiences that I have had with them - I will never purchase from them again and will never deal with their service dept again. I am seriously re-evaluating whether I will even purchase any more Toyotas - I have spoken with Toyota National about these issues. Visit 1 - took vehicle for oil/filter change. They said I needed front brake replacement with resurfacing front rotors. I had never had any issues with front break sounds and vibrations on downgrades - small or large - the prior 8 years in 2 different priors, yet after their work that day I have had this noise and vibration issues on quick stops and steeper downgrade braking ever since. I live 80 minutes away one way so dealt with it till next visit. Visit 2 - I called on a Tuesday asking for quote and current stock to replace my bottom plastic skid plate that attaches in multiple locations to underside of front bumper and side wheel well protective panels and the side front wheel well protective panels/guards. They said the wheel well protective panels/guards were not in stock yet could be there before Saturday. I also stated issues with the brake sounds and vibrations. I arrived on Saturday - told the service rep that met with me about the appt and what needed to be done/checked. I took "courtesy shuttle" to Panera and got call 3 hours later car was ready. After 3 calls and hour and half later waiting for "Courtesy Shuttle" I walked the 3 miles back. When I got there the bottom and wheel wheel panels had not been done, yet they had done the engine protective panel that I didn't even ask to be replaced. I was told mechanic couldn't hear any issue with brakes. I made error being tired of waiting of only driving around slowly within the flat grounds of the dealership - i made in and rush to get out of there and didn't leave their property and didn't make the sound with the mechanic in the car (even though it made sound on the downhill to the stop light on 76 just before the dealership when I drove there that day - should have gone off property - yet they probably would have said same thing as visit 3). I was so pissed off and had no more time to waste that I paid and left. Visit 3 - today - I called yesterday and made appt for today 2 pm for oil change and for the brakes still making noise on vibrating on quick stops or downgrades. I arrived today and waited 2 hours to be asked if I drive alot of steep downgrades - answer no. Their take was my driving/braking style was leading to hotspots on rotors - my overbraking being the issues. Amazing that I have been driving 2 different Prius'es for 8 years without having that issue and ever since they remachined my rotors 3 months ago that now my driving style has deteriorated. Which is more likely my style changed after 8 years or the rotor machining? My commute to work and back does not involve any significant downgrades and I have only done 3 steeper downgrades in last three months - that i did many, many times in the prior 8 years. If your looking for long waits, incompetent service, and being blamed for their errors - you are in the right place. Craig Shepherd

Excellent customer service!

bybzemar1on 08/28/2013

I have purchased my last 4 vehicles through this dealership and can't say enough about the level of service and professionalism. From the first greeting, to the negotiations, to the finances and finally, all way through the salesperson going over the features in my SUV, I was treated with individual care and courtesy. I would recommend this dealership to my family and closest friends- and I have! Nobody likes going through the process of buying a car but when you need to do it don't hesitate to give these people your business.

Bought a 2013 Prius with Solar Package

bybarbarag1on 02/12/2013

I had an excellent no stress experience. Everyone was very nice and polite. I was blown away because I was so impressed with their professionalism. Barry M. was the sales agent I was dealing with through the internet. He showed me absolutely everything there was to know about the Prius. I highly recommend dealing with him and this particular dealership.

Toyota of Escondido - Inept

bynancy35on 04/26/2009

Took my car in to Toyota of Escondido because my engine was overheating. Checking things out, we felt it was just the thermostat. They called an hour later and said, "We found the leak. That's why you've been losing fluid. It'll be an extra $500." Huh?? There was no leak, we weren't losing fluid. Told them to just replace the thermostat. They objected, but it's been fine since, no leak, fluid level's fine. HOWEVER, when we got the car back, the check engine light was on, the VSC lights were on, weren't on before, haven't gone off since. Plus they must have torn one of the black duct things, as now it's all wrapped in black tape. Take your car ANYWHERE but here!

Appeared not to want my business

bydog144on 01/25/2009

It took about three days to get a bid out of TSE. When I received the bid it ranked #11 highest of all others I received. Attempted to negotiate on price with TSE. No dice. They wouldn't move, and basically didn't want to talk with me. Wouldn't respond to my email. They appear to have a very large inventory, but it also appears that nothing is moving off the lot.

Horrible customer service

bybolts221on 12/28/2008

This dealership has absolutely no respect for customers. The sales manager I negotiated with was extremely rude and argumentative during the negotiation process. He was very confrontational and even threatened to use my personal information I provided during the credit application process as blackmail. As I stormed out of the dealership, I saw another manager giving him a high-five for what he did. There are much more honest, trustworthy dealerships to do business with.
