Ruined my credit

by Jago222 on 11/01/2017

I went by o purchase a vehicle, and asked that only 2 banks be used for approval as I'm trying to rebuild. The sales guy and the sales manager agreed. They ran me thru 17 banks without my approval. I have filed a brb complaint, and will never go there again.

Easy Purchase

by northgacarguy on 09/04/2017

I found the vehicle online. In making arrangements to go see it, three and a half hours away, they called to notify me someone else was looking at the car. When that party did not buy the car, they contacted me. Then they held the car until I got there in person the next day. The financial part was easy, low pressure, and very efficient compared to some other recent experience. I recommend them, especially the salesmen Doug and Tom, highly.

Buyer Beware

by lucymax on 03/21/2016

Advertised listing had several items that were not on the vehicle. I drove 4 hours to learn this. Bought the vehicle anyway. Waited 5 weeks to get an assigned title that they had in house all along. tried to get tags here in NC and the sales reciept that Fairway provided showed a balance due . I had paid in full at time of purchase. Many more items ,not enough time. Buyer beware !

Beware of Fairway Ford in Kingsport, TN

by rippedoffTN on 01/08/2014

My wife and I purchased a 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD on 12/4/2013 from Fairway Ford in Kingsport, TN. The vehicle had 28,029 miles and was represented as a "new" truck with zero defects. The sales representative said he would "100% stand behind this truck." The Business Manager at Fairway Ford, said he knew the original owner well and would vouch for the condition and history of the vehicle. After purchasing the vehicle I took it to our mechanic for fluid and filter changes and a general inspection. He informed us that there was "significant and abnormal" rust all over the vehicle's under carriage, including suspension components, the driveshaft and rear differential, the frame and frame cross member supports. The rust was so bad and advanced that the steel was delaminating on some of the structural frame and suspension components such as the shock absorber frame mounts, idler arms and cross members. This had been occurring for some time on critical structural components of the vehicle. Fairway Ford did have prior knowledge of this as they affected some repairs to the severely rusted brake lines before placing the vehicle up for sale. This was admitted to us when we called to discuss the complaint and find an amicable solution to our dissatisfaction. They told us "...they fixed what was wrong... and weren't going to do any more...". I researched the origin of this vehicle and the nature of the under carriage rust and discovered that inferior steel had been used on the manufacture of specific trucks made at a GM plant in Texas. GM has yet to resolve this issue with vehicle owners affected by this defect. In researching complaints filed by owners of vehicles manufactured at this GM plant and who are experiencing the rapid advance of under carriage rust, I found that the issue is extensive, expensive to remediate and sometimes dangerous as some owners have experienced catastrophic structural failure while driving. My wife and I decided we were not going to keep the vehicle and approached the Business Manager, as well as the General Manager at Fairway Ford with our complaint which included specific details from what our mechanic found. At first we wanted to cancel the transaction and receive a refund since we had owned the truck only a week when discovering we had been the victims of what we believe to be a dishonest and opportunistic dealer. They refused that offer. I then offered to buy a brand new Ford truck from them with the condition they gave me credit for what I paid for the Chevy just a few days prior as trade in towards a brand new truck on their lot. They refused that offer as well. The only help they offered us was to broker a transaction with private parties they knew would be interested in buying the vehicle from us. Fairway Ford told us that interest in the truck was so strong due to the extremely low mileage for the model year that they had "over 20 offers to buy the truck from all over, as far away as Atlanta..." at the same time we purchased the truck. I refused that offer because I could not in good conscious sell a vehicle that I knew had significant defects that would be very expensive to repair and could be potentially dangerous to another unsuspecting person. I was shocked that Fairway Ford would be willing to do such a thing to another customer and with full knowledge of the vehicle's defects. That conspicuous willingness to take advantage of people stands as irrefutable evidence that Fairway Ford wantonly and maliciously misrepresented the car they sold to us as well as any and all promises they made to us to stand behind the truck. My wife and I have since traded the vehicle and sustained substantial financial losses as a result of the material and significant issues with the truck that were known to Fairway Ford prior to the sale but not disclosed to us. They have an F rating from the BBB and are not an accredited BBB business. Do yourself a big favor and stay away from Fairway Ford!

Expensive and Aggravating

by cstapleton on 08/09/2013

The work is fine from this service dept. They will continue to work on a vehicle until they get it right. But I only go there when I absolutely have to. My first experience with them was warranty work. The work was completed as promised, but when they called to tell me the car was ready, they informed me that the previous owner had put the wrong anitfreeze in the car and they had replaced it and it would be over $100. They did not call me ahead of time to OK this. Apparently the "gold antifreeze" is made of actual gold. Other problems include repairs ballooning in cost, often to repair their mistakes, and calling me to pick up a vehicle that is done when it is not really done. I had some experience with their body shop which was very good, but the service department is terrible. The work is much more expensive than other shops, and they could not get a bearing for a Mercury vehicle that I bought down the street at NAPA. I have not had any issues with the work when complete, its just very expensive and aggravating to get anything done.

Don't buy from this dealership! --Better Business Bureau doesn't trust them

by seagul on 12/02/2008

This company does not stand behind what they sell! They are the ultimate car salesmen, they will tell you everything about the car that you would want to know and leave out the mechanical problems that even a buyer's check won't pick up. Their service department did not check the car even when I sent it back a second time. They knew about the bad performance of the car but did everything they could to sell it to me anyway and within 1300 miles the car needed a whole new engine. They refuse to pay any portion of the cost, claiming that I purposefully ruined the engine and am trying to blame it on them. I should have realized that they have already been kicked out of the Better Business Bureau of Tennessee and they already have a couple of complaints with the State Consumer Affairs Dept. Please avoid them at all costs!
