Buyer Beware of Non Disclosures when buying used cars
Written by 04/09/2017
onOn 2/11 I purchased a used 2007 Ford Taurus SE 4 door Sedan from Mercedes-Benz. The car was originally at Crest Honda and had been serviced by them. According to their records three things were disclosed to me that needed to be fixed: a wheel bearing, a small oil leak around a gasket, and the third brake light. Mercedes agreed to take care of the brake light. My salesman suggested that with a used car I should expect to pay around $1000 the first year for repairs and I agreed that was a reasonable assessment . After the car was brought from Crest to Mercedes their mechanics also did an underbody inspection and disclosed a small crack in the exhaust pipe which they said might be a little noisy but still safe. Again I was ok with that. A week later when I took my new used car to my very qualified mechanic to repair the issues that had been disclosed to me things took a turn for the worst. Before the car made it to the top of the rack they saw a coolant leak as did I. The surprises didn't stop there....top right motor mount (torque rod), lower rear motor mount, sway bar links, right side axle, engine oil leak (oil pan) and valve cover gasket, trans oil leak, pressure power steering hose leaking....OMG!!! Anger brewing big time!! The cost for all of the non disclosed troubles this car had was gonna cost $2000. Do you honestly want me to really believe, Crest and Mercedes, that with 2 underbody inspections the mechanics missed all of this? These issues didn't just magically appear time I drove the car off the lot. No, Crest and Mercedes did NOT disclose everything and in my book that is lying to me and deceiving me after putting my trust in them to be forthcoming and honest. Evidently those two words don't exist in their business ethics, or lack thereof. Regardless of whether it was me or someone else who bought the car at the very least all of the leaks should have been repaired. I have written 4 emails to Mercedes since my purchase to ask that they do the right thing and fix the leaks and I will take care of the rest but as I expected I have not received one email or phone call from them. They don't care...I bought the car "as is" with the understanding that everything wrong had been disclosed to me and as we all know now that was not the case at all. Their business practice is unethical and unconscionable! Buy from Carmax or anywhere else but stay very far away from Crest Honda and Mercedes-Benz. Next stop...Better Business Bureau!!
