Read Before You Buy

by TomCee on 03/26/2019

Just needed to update my review on Solomons Auto Group of Brownsville, PA. We live near Annapolis, MD and had been looking for a Dodge Ram. I had waited a long time to allow myself to spend money on a nice used truck. We found the truck we were looking for at Solomons thru Car Guru and contacted them. I requested the Car Fax report and found out what my taxes, etc. would be and told them I would be up that Saturday when they opened to look at the truck and hopefully leave with it as I already had my financing in place thru Navy Federal. I worked with a fairly new salesperson and was happy he was able to get a pretty simple deal done and he told me the truck would be ready. We decided we had to leave Friday evening because they were calling for a really bad storm to come thru western MD and Brownsville, PA. It was over 3 hours and the last 2 in a bad snow storm, but I was there when they opened. They took me into a shop with really poor lighting or they didn’t have all the lights on which is possible as it was first thing in the AM. Honestly, I was really worried about getting back thru the mountains with the impending weather coming due to start anytime. The truck looked great and they brought it outside, I was thrilled. We got on the road and headed home making it to lower ground before the storm but driving thru snow and lots of salt. I wanted to get the salt off but the weather wasn’t great at home either and couldn’t do it for a couple days. In cleaning it I realized the back of the bed on the driver’s side had not only been wrecked but whoever did the bodywork had done an absolute terrible job. I reached out to the salesperson via email a couple times and didn’t hear back from him, so I decided to write a letter to the Owner of the company. I got a quick response back from Jason Solomon, Manager/Nephew not the Owner. He was very rude, arrogant and condescending. He basically told me to get an estimate by Monday (this was Friday) and get back with him. This was a Certified vehicle, and we all know we pay more for a certified vehicle, they go thru this so-called stringent inspection so they can call it certified. No way did anyone doing these certified inspections, miss this damage. Anyway, I went out of my way and drove an hour east to a friend of a friend that does bodywork but at least I knew he was good at what he does and he would give me the best price. Once I found out how bad the damage was and the work that had been done the estimate was just over 1,200 dollars. When I got back in touch with Jason, his fix was to give me 200 and have me sign a document releasing him from any obligations to the vehicle in the future on this truck. I chose to not sign his paper or take his 200 but decided it is more important to make sure everyone that chooses to purchase a Certified Vehicle takes extra caution. A clean car fax means nothing, buying a Certified Vehicle that is supposed to go thru over a 100-point inspection, means nothing. Take the time, bring someone knowledgeable and make sure you go to a reputable dealer. I thought I had done all this, I’m knowledgeable on mechanics of vehicles and can’t believe I did not see the damage in that badly lit room they had it in, maybe that should have been my red flag. Once you buy it they are done with you there. I would choose a different dealer, I can’t imagine you could do worse.

Satisfied customer

by JWM252525 on 09/14/2016

I recently purchased a vehicle from this dealership and it was a very easy and stress free experience. Chad P. Was the salesman I dealt with and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. He worked hard to get me the vehicle I wanted, and actually got me to a lower monthly payment than what we discussed. I highly recommend this dealership and this salesman, I will be a returning customer.

Great job, Travis!

by journeyman64 on 01/11/2016

Travis was my salesman. He was straightforward and courteous during my purchase of a new Ram 2500. It was fast and painless! Best price after going to 3 other dealerships. Should have just gone to Solomon's first!

Rude Ownership and Very Shady Financial Dealings

by TheGhost58 on 01/07/2013

This dealership is by far the worst dealer I have expierianced in my 30 years of car buying. The owner turned out the lights while we were finishing our deal and said time to go get out. The finance guy, another Solomon hid items in the deal to give the dealership more money sent it to my credit union and when I discovered it called them on it and was told to late now you already signed the papers. These are pathetic [non-permissible content removed] and any buyer needs to beware when dealing with them.

Nice salesperson, Extremely RUDE Owner!!

by rayev15 on 11/24/2009

11/19/2009 The salesperson (Rich Namie) and I had negotiated on the price of a used Dodge truck for quite some time. The salesperson was very friendly, and although tough on pricing and negotiating, was never impolite or rude in any way. The time came to make a decision after approximately half an hour of haggling over the price. I stepped outside to call my wife and inform her of the decision that I had reached. The salesperson and I had come to an informal agreement on the price (amount down, trade-in value, and financing) and I had told him that I would place a refundable deposit on the truck so that it would not sell until I could come back the following day (Friday 11/20/09). When I returned from my phone call, the salesperson was writing up the offer that he thought we agreed on. Prior to handing over my credit card for the deposit, I asked to see the offer he wrote up. The offer being written was not the offer that we agreed to prior to my phone call, and I informed him of this fact. He apologized and stated that we were not on the same page. While not what I would call an honest business practice, the salesperson was not rude or insulting in any fashion as he took the offer away to write up the offer we agreed on. When he returned, he was followed by who I later found out was the owner of the dealership (Norman Solomon). The owner told me that they could not agree to the deal that the salesperson and I had informally agreed upon. While disappointed, I realized this was the end of my visit. I stood up to leave and began to tell them that they had my number and I would still like to do business with them should the offer on this particular truck change, or if another truck in my price range came in. The owner immediately cut my sentence short and began to speak to me in an insulting and belligerent manner. He essentially told me that they no longer wanted my business and that I should leave, all the while seemingly trying to provoke me into a physical confrontation. His language, mannerisms, and behavior were totally unprofessional, not to mention outright rude. He insulted and shouted at me as I walked out the door and kept talking and provoking me until I got into my vehicle, some 30 to 40 feet from the door. Prior to the owner entering the picture, I was happy with the way I was treated by the salesperson. I was satisfied that my offer was not acceptable to them and that there was no deal that could have been done that night. I had even specifically told the salesperson that I would call him tomorrow (Friday 11/10/09) whether I wanted to buy the truck or not, wanting to be considerate of his time. Norman Solomon ruined my experience at Solomon Chrysler, and is solely responsible for ending my opportunity to by that particular truck. And it is because of him and him only that I will never attempt do business with the Solomon Auto Group again. I would not want any of my family or friends to be treated and spoken to like I was; therefore I will urge anyone I know to think twice before considering doing business with Solomon Auto.

Solomon Chrysler Jeep Warning

by rziglear on 03/16/2009

I warn everyone I know to NEVER consider purchasing a vehicle from Solomon. They tacked thousands of dollars in hidden fees in our contract, which we didn't catch until we got home and reviewed all of the paperwork. The 2008 caravan we purchased came with a DVD player, which they removed prior to the day I picked it up. After realizing it was gone, I contacted them and they said the DVD player was an option and didn't come standard. They stole our DVD player and lied about it. When I spoke with Jason Solomon, he denied everything and tried to change the subject by telling me I was really lucky they got financing for me (I gave them a 2002 trade in and checks totaling over $8,500 not post-dated). He told my husband that it is extremely common for people to pay $30,000 cash, so our down payment meant nothing. Jason Solomon then told me he was calling all of the Solomon dealerships and telling them not to provide me with any service. I have a warranty and he REFUSED to honor it although my van had a couple glitches that needed attention. Jason Solomon told me the 2002 Dodge I traded in was sold already, 4 days after we bought the 2008 from Solomon, so there was nothing I could do. I was stuck, according to him. These people are [violative content deleted] and run a HORRIBLE business. DO NOT EVER GO TO SOLOMON FOR A VEHICLE!!!!!
