Unethical Service Department

by Nathan on 11/09/2021

Where to start... I'll first say that I have been a customer of NW Jeep for several years. It's where I leased my Jeep, where I have taken it for service, where I was planning on purchasing said Jeep from, and where I've sent friends and family for their Jeeps and Dodges. After my experience with the service department over the past few days, I can no longer recommend NW Jeep to anyone due to the unethical treatment I received from John Goodner, the service department manager, and Lalena McKnight, a service advisor. I took my Jeep in to have factory towing capabilities enabled in the computer. This process has been done by other dealerships for other people many times. I installed the factory hitch and wiring harness as recommend by many Jeep mechanics across the country, and Mopar itself using my VIN. It's a process that has been done successfully using the exact parts I used and the procedure I asked for many times by other Jeep users. I dropped my Jeep off with the NW Jeep service department, who quoted me 1 hour to do this work. The team immediately did not seem knowledgeable about the procedure. They took 5 hours while I waited in the lobby with no one updating me on the status. After it was done, I tested the trailer light connection and was not getting any power. I went back inside asking Lalena if they had tested the fuses specific to towing in the fuse box for power (there are 6 of them), as this would indicate if they had activated all the right things in the computer. I was met with immediate attitude. She directed to me to John, the service manager, who went completely went off on me and started from a position of defensiveness and condescension. He told me they were not responsible for verifying the quality or accuracy of their work. I told him to please test the fuses because they would be receiving power had the job been done correctly. He told me that "if I know so f'ing much about the procedure, then I should just do it myself". After about 10 minutes of back and forth, he decided he would test the fuses and keep my Jeep overnight. He told me if I was wrong, I would pay for it. I received a call from Lalena the next day saying I "used the wrong wiring harness" and she told me "the parts guy said I needed to use another wiring kit". The wiring kit she quoted is for non-Trailhawk models, as 2019+ Trailhawks were updated to have the required tow wiring all the way back to the rear hatch. This is confirmed by another Jeep dealer and the official Mopar wiring diagrams. The harness, however, was never the point of this extra day they took with my Jeep. They were supposed to test fuses and they didn't, instead choosing to focus on the wiring harness "being the wrong one" because it gave them a way out of not doing the job properly. I picked up my Jeep today, was met with more attitude at the service counter, then they charged me for keeping my Jeep overnight and coming up with ways to scapegoat me, so I took it home to test the towing fuses for power myself. The 6 fuses do NOT have power to them, indicating that they did not do their job or perform the work I paid for, and the wiring harness I used has nothing to do with this fact. They seem to be unaware of this well-documented procedure and parts used for it. If you need service done, I would STRONGLY recommend not going to NW Jeep and dealing with their utter disdain and sheer lack of respect for their customers. Where I'm from, the customer's concerns are priority and an utmost level of respect and professionalism needs to be maintained. You will not find this at NW Jeep. Even if the work had been done correctly, I would still be writing this review due to the unethical treatment I received from the service department. There are many other Jeep dealerships in the Portland area. I have been in contact with another dealership who is friendly, willing to squeeze me in for an appointment, and is knowledgeable and able to do perform the work NW Jeep could not.

AT WHAT POINT IS IT A LEMON???

by gimmpy1 on 10/09/2015

Purchased a used Jetta, w/ ext. warr., 6 months. Tran. was gone at time of purchase. No inspection was done prior to purchase, so they fixed it with a new tran. In the mean time, I'm w/o a vehicle for the 1st 5 weeks. Just making pmts. & don't even have possession of it. After they fixed that, the other major item is the drivers door key hole was broken but still kind of worked on and off. The trunk had been broken into, so that lock was messed up. We told them of that issue too, when the tran. was replaced. They put in a new battery on the fob. So now we have the car back. The car will be driving down the road and all the sudden there is no pressure behind the pedal. You can stomp on it and get nothing. The RPMS are just not there. Then all the sudden, it just picks up and takes off. The key won't work in the door or trunk, w/o the alarm going off. You can't use the locking/alarm system of the Jetta without the key working. To this day no phone calls rtn. You can leave a msg., talk to someone & leave a msg. nothing ever gets returned. I have gone and tried to work with them and they just say its not their problem. The car was never gone through when they took it in on trade. They washed it and put it on the floor. Unfortunately I bought it for a total of $7000. That included state taxes cause at time of purchase I lived in WA. I have put a total of 800 miles on it since the tran. was replaced over 3 months ago. We have requested papers of some sort to show me what the ext. warranty is. Nothing!! So through all of this, and no fault of the dealer, I bent the hinges on the drivers door. In the middle of trying to push it out to have it towed home, I caught the door on a post. No body damage, just bent hinges. I have new ones to replace them and fix the opening and closing of the door, but the locking system still not working. I have to crawl through the passenger door, IF I can get it unlocked, to start the car. But, because the door lock never has worked right, I can't get the passenger door to open to get behind the wheel. Through all of this we have attempted to contact the finance mgr we worked with that sold us the ext warranty, "he's no longer employed there." Wow, I wonder what took place and if it had anything to do with our situation?? Internet sales is of no help. Used car mgr doesn't rtn calls at all! If you try to call in, it goes to their voicemail or the service dept. voice mail. No calls are ever returned! So all in all it's been pure hell dealing with a true LEMON car, AND A DEALERSHIP THAT COULD CARE LESS. I don't want anyone to have to go through what we have gone through, and still going through!! So stay as far away as you possibly can from this dealership. I don't care if the auto is brand new! If you have to work with them in anyway shape or form, you'll end up regretting it!! Never again will we use them for anything!

These guys give dealers a bad name

by nwcarguy on 10/04/2015

These guys … classic dishonest car dealership, and the reason dealerships have such a bad rap. I was set to buy a Wranger from Northwest Jeep Chrysler Dodge. Had an offer, in text, from salesman to have my trade purchased for $31K. But just before we do the deal, they say they can't honor that anymore, they have to reduce by $3K. I told salesman I have their word, in text, and what was agreed to by Northwest Jeep Chrysler Dodge. The salesman blamed, Jeremy, the sales manager, and went on to write: “… I can’t justify what numbers I was given in any way. I personally believe that if we offered you $31,000, we should stick by that. Taking three grand away is the quickest way to ruin our credibility.” I’ll leave it there. If the employees think the offer was valid, and that Jeremy is ruining credibility at Northwest Jeep Chrysler Dodge, I can’t top that.

NW Sells Lemons

by paulkclem on 09/11/2015

Three weeks after buying a 2009 Jeep Patriot I found they sold me the car WITHOUT A WORKING HORN and it was GOING TO NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION! They offered to split the cost of the repair which I told them was unsatisfactory. Their service department had my car for FIVE WEEKS before it was finished. My car was returned to me with MY ALARM AND LOCKING SYSTEM DISABLED! The used car manager, the GM, the owner, NONE OF THEM APOLOGIZED. They made me feel unwanted as a customer and it seemed like this was a situation that happens all the time with them. It is amazing that a business can survive when they care so little about their customers. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE.

Easy process, great value!

by noobrider on 08/21/2015

My wife are expecting our first baby and needed to upgrade her Ford Ranger. Having purchased many vehicles, I was wary and ready to haggle. Indeed it turned out to be unnecessary as their sale price was as low as they could go and lower than the other dealers. I found that our application, financing, trade in, etc went smoothly. 3 hours and we were driving off the lots. Thanks to Jeff and the crew at NWJCDR

Buying a car, is still a lousy experience.

by usmc1811 on 12/26/2014

My title says it all. I always feel I need to take a hot shower after dealing with sales personnel and the finance personnel too. Always a Con game with these characters. The effort they put into trying to sell you something you really do not need (EVER) is amazing. The tactic of baiting you, just so they can squeeze an extra dollar out of your wallet so they can put it into their wallet. They tell you anything just to make a deal. And they make the deal sound like they are doing you a favor AND saving you a ton of money too. I enjoy cars. I just hate having to buy one from ANY dealership ANY where in the "US of A". Time for my hot shower.

Great car buying experience!

by aeris20 on 11/26/2014

I've never had such a good car buying experience as I did at NW Jeep (and I've been to a lot of dealerships). I couldn't be happier with my recent Jeep purchase! Everyone was so nice from start to finish. Especially OC. We weren't able to come together on a deal at first, but in the end, it all worked out. He was very patient and accommodating during the entire process. He constantly stayed in touch with me which I thought was great. He never gave me the runaround and was straightforward with me from the start. Mike in Finance was also very good to work with as well as Paul. I would definitely recommend buying at car a NW Jeep. Their prices were definitely better than anyone around too! Thanks so much guys!

Usual sales tactics, but mishandled personal information.

by YoSoyAirto on 10/01/2014

My wife responded to an ad for a vehicle. Don, a salesman, called in response and after a few exchanges of voicemails, I spoke with him. I explained to Don that we had a car in mind and were likely picking it up the next day. He told me, "“since this is the end of the month, my manager has made it clear that no reasonable offer will be refused -… So we can hit our goals." Clearly, this is a common line, but he promised to call me the next morning by 10 AM with the details of the vehicle since he was out of the office as we spoke. He was clear that he had a better deal than what I had explained to him. The next morning, I didn't hear from him, so I sent a text message as we agreed. He directed me to his colleague, John. John called and left me a message, then we spoke by phone. I explained exactly what I wanted and he said he could meet my request. He urged me to go to their website and file a credit application, though I already have an approval through my credit union, claiming he could get a better rate and get the process started in advance. I had let him know I wasn't willing to buy the car at the advertised price, just as I had with Don. Both assured me they could beat the price and that we'd arrange something for me by the end of work. Now, I have dealt with many car dealers. I have bought several cars. This is my first complaint. The reason I'm complaining is this: Though I filed my credit application at 12 PM, John did not get back to me. I messaged Don to see what is going on after I messaged John. Then John replied to say "Great!"” Hours later, no response. Finally, after 6 PM, I got a voicemail as I ate dinner. I sent John the requested information even though it was mandatory on the credit application I completed online. Then, a bit later, he messaged me, again, asking for the same information! At this point, my wife was getting quite nervous and me, too. As of 9 PM, John had ignored my text messages and phone calls, as did Don. I can assume they sold the car, but to handle someone'’s personal information in this fashion is absolutely unacceptable. Like I said, this is my first complaint regarding any dealership and I have dealt with truly dishonest people-—I consider it part of the deal. But this is the first time someone, let alone two representatives from one company, has handled my personal information so carelessly.

by fnjeep07 on 09/03/2014

Just bought a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 door, and we are loving it! Jeff E. was a great sales person to work with. We never felt pressured into buying and when we did decide to buy the process was smooth, didn't take long and we drove away feeling that we got a good deal.

California out of state Internet sale

by SRTIZZY on 03/28/2014

These guys and gals have their stuff together. The internet sales team will take care of you, whether you are local, or across the nation. I live in California, I searched for a 2012 Challenger SRT on the web at several different dearlerships. I had my own financing, preapproved. These guys not only beat that deal they bettered it to even include, out of state tax,Title and next day air forwarded California DMV registration paperwork to my home county registration office. Thomas M. from his first initial email made me feel comfortable. His sales team from Finance to Raylenne in Title made the experience smooth. The absolute best buying experience I have ever had. Picked me up from the airport, door to door service. Way to go. Thanks Guys

Most of the "pre-sale" was done online

by oreegun on 10/25/2012

I bougt a used Mustang from NWJ and did almost all of the presale info online as I live too far away to go in more than once. Todd, the salesman, was very prompt with information and outlined all the options for the trade-in and sale. He was very respectful, non-confrontatational and a pleasure to do business. Once I was got to the dealership everything was pretty much ready to go except a test drive and trade-in evaluation. The car I got is great and I had a pleasant experience at NWJ and will certainly check them out first if and when I buy another car.

I liked the Salesman and I normally don't like them.

by wine_n_cheese on 10/31/2011

I phoned in advance to make sure the used SUV I saw online was still available. Salesman named Shannon stated it was so we made the drive to Beaverton. Happily he didn't ask stupid questions on the phone -just answered my question. I got his name and when we arrived I asked for Shannon. He appeared and took us directly to the SUV and nicely waited until we completed our inspection. I asked to take a test drive, he got keys checked my license, climbed in the backseat with my daughter and we took it through the paces. He didn't jabber while we drove like most sales people do, basically just told me where to turn since I didn't know the town. We returned to dealership and he left us to talk amongst ourselves. We told him we were going to go get a cup of coffee and chat about the vehicle. He offered to let us take the SUV -nice touch. When we returned we went into negotiations (the term makes my blood boil and I become a troll). It went well and faster than prior dealings elsewhere. I actually thought we might get out of there by 5:30 but then we had to speak with the finance lady. We were not financing and had no trade in and were paying by check. Instead of calling the Bank we were writing the check from, they tried (several times) to get me to allow my husband to co-sign, since I am not employed, but again -I was paying cash and have and excellent credit score and we wanted this car to have only my name. Naturally, we didnt' get out until after 6:30 but I guess that is the nature of a car buying experience. I really liked and would recommend and return to Shannon as a salesman. He was helpful and not pushy.

Nice No runaround place to buy a car.

by jasdman1 on 10/23/2011

They were one of the only "Portland" Dodge dealers that respected my wishes to do most of the "pre-selling" price negotiating on-line. I have spent way to many "wasted" hours of my life waiting in a dealership for the salesman to "Check" with the Sales manager and back and forth , on and on.. At NW they seem to get the idea that some of us know what we want, what we are willing to pay, how much we will "settle" on for our trade etc..I have to say it was refreshing.. When I went in for the deal it was basically done... I spent more time waiting for my wife to get there with the pink slip for the trade then I did making the deal. Jim Davis was a pleasure to deal with. And I LOVE my new Challenger!!

Friendly-Professional-No Sales Pressure

by microuser on 08/29/2011

Chose this out of town dealer, because my local dealers were sales-psyching, pressuring, and would not give clear answers to questions without playing games. NW Jeep was a pleasure to do business with. Osita was a real helpful, gentleman sales person. They respected not wasting my time, which was very much appreciated.

Outstanding sales

by homeandgarden on 08/28/2011

Being a conservative person, my wife and I shopped the entire Northwest for Jeep Grand Cherokee. We contacted both large and small dealerships and made our purchase with Northwest Jeep Chrysler Dodge in Portland, Oregon. Our decision was based on price, the reprutation of the dealership and a staff member that would listen to our requests for a vehicle. Absolutely no one provided the outstanding quality of service that Northwest Jeep gave us. We were out of state buyers and this company made it extremely easy for us to make a purchase with little effort. We highly recommend Northwest Jeep Chrysler Dodge to anyone thinking of making a purchase and we thank Jim Davis, the sales representative who provided us with such great support in our efforts.
