Unknowingly paid 12% over MSRP

I like the Dolan Dealerships and have used the Dolan Lexus service department for decades, so I felt comfortable buying from Dolan Toyota. Since Dolan advertises their sales team does not work on commission, I mistakenly thought the price presented was the last/best price....silly me. I have now received the documentation for my vehicle registration and it shows the actual MSRP, which means I paid $4300 over MSRP. Buyer beware. I've rated my car buying experience 3 stars because the sales associate I worked with was awesome and I really appreciate all of his efforts.

Received my SUV in worse condition than when I dropped it off.

Since I purchased my vehicle from Dolan and they had performed basic services well enough in the past, I dropped off my 2019 Highlander Limited that has an issue with the radar where it was intermittently working. I believe that I was the reason it was out of alignment when I moved it while working on the grill. I could use it for cruise control about 50% of the time and it would imtermittently show a vehicle in front of me only to disappear and re-appear, so I dropped it off with the Dolan service center for recalibration and they charged me a $165 diagnostic fee, which I would call expensive, but since there is no way for the average car owner to perform any diagnostics whatsoever, there wasn't much choice but to accept. I provided photos to the service rep of the error messages appearing on the dash display and left it with them for the day. When I received a call back at COB they said they weren't able to duplicate what I saw (despite the photos I provided) and were not able to get the radar to see anything through the Toyota logo badge on the grill, so they recommended first replacing the plastic Toyota badge which would cost over $400, then they would re-evaluate the radar's operation. I said to wait and I would just deal with the way it was performing until I could afford a $400 piece of plastic. When I picked up the vehicle the next morning it looked like it had been kept outside under a tree as it was covered in speckles of sap. The worst part was not the tree sap, but the cruise control function was completely inoperative and all the messages I provided photos of, but they claimed they couldn't duplicate, were now constantly appearing on the dash display on continuous repeat obscuring the normal information shown on the screen and impossible to clear. I do not believe spending $165 for a non-diagnosis and receiving my vehicle in a more crippled state than when I left it with the 'professionals' is worthy of repeat business, but is worthy of a cautionary tale for the next would-be customer for this dealership.

Corolla nice.

Didn't think I would ever own a small car but I really like my Corolla. Sold my FJ and 4Runner when gas hit $5.00 a gallon. Dolan does a great job of maintaining it. I would recommend them to anyone.

Shay is one of the most helpful, courteous, kind, above and beyond person. I’m in between blessings and couldn’t afford what my car needed at this time , she took the time to investigate what my plan was , she cared enough for my needs not just the company’s and that says a lot of what Toyota is about.

Great car buying experience!!!

We had a great experience with what could have been negative. We made an appointment to see a specific certified used vehicle from their website. We showed up for our appt and were greeted by Mickey, who invited us to sit down inside (since it was cold and raining outside), while he fetched the vehicle. We were dreading going to a dealership to begin with, and at first we were afraid our dreads would be fulfilled. Mickey left us waiting quite awhile and we thought for sure we were going to experience poor service. He was unable to locate the specific vehicle we had made an appointment to see (not his fault - as it had been sold and the employee who sold it had not put it in the computer). Mickey apologized profusely and went out of his way to help us find something similar we might be interested in. As it turned out, we ended up finding something even better and were treated very well by Mickey and Rich. They both went out of their way to accomodate us. The best part about our experience was that they were not at all what we feared a car sales experience would be. They were friendly and genuinely nice guys... not pushy and not fake. We love our new vehicle and we look forward to working with this place again. We highly recommend this place! Thanks Mickey and Rich!

She sits down and finds the one you are wanting and if you need to look at more than one, she is there to help. Dolan Toyota is a great dealership and I will be back again for my fifth car in the future. Two thumbs up.

Three strikes and you're out!

Three strikes and you're out Dolan Toyota Scion in Reno, NV! My problems with this dealership began when I brought my 2010 Tundra in for an alignment and general servicing back in February. They performed the alignment, did the scheduled maintenance for 60,000 miles and inspected the vehicle. I was told when I picked up the truck that it had a small oil leak around the dipstick that wasn't a big deal and would be an inexpensive fix that could be done later. While driving home from the dealership my check engine light came on. I checked the codes and was given the code for a small evap leak of the emission system and thought that I'd bring it back to Dolan to get it checked out. I couldn't get back down to Reno until April and by that time the alignment had started to drift. I scheduled an appointment on 4/16/2016 for diagnostics on the CEL and alignment. I was told that the driver side subframe tab for setting the alignment had been damaged, the carbon canister for the emission system had gotten water in it and would need to be replaced and the previously diagnosed minor engine oil leak was actually a major leak and could compromise the life of the truck's V8 engine with potential catastrophic failure. They quoted me about $2,000 dollars for the work and said they would set me up with a rental car for a week. They told me that the truck's warrantee had expired and I would have to pay for the work. While driving home I made some phone calls to 2 Toyota mechanics I know and to the dealership where I bought the Tundra. It turns out that the emission system work is covered under warrantee and the diagnosis of the CEL had probably been made based upon codes only and it was likely that the carbon canister was not even the problem. I turned around and brought back the rental and asked Bryan Bough, the Toyota maintenance associate I was working with, about the warrantee. He wouldn't answer me - instead he had someone get my truck. When I asked for the final estimate of costs for the work to be done, he flat out refused to give it to me. So the following week I get a call from the maintenance manager, who had heard about my situation, asking me to give them a second chance. He told me that if I returned he would make things right by taking care of the engine oil leak under the warrantee and fix my alignment. In the meantime I had cleared the codes for the check engine light and bought a new gas cap. After 100 miles and a dozen or so starts the CEL had not turned back on. I return to Dolan and am told that the emission system is fine. They agree to repair the seals causing the oil leak. BUT the alignment problem would involve replacing the subframe, requiring a body shop and cost of $4,100. I am told by Bryan Bough that the damage could only have been done by a mechanic applying too much force while adjusting the alignment. I ask about the alignment work done at Dolan Toyota 2 months ago back in February. I had been to no other shop and nobody had touched my truck between when I had the alignment work done in February and when I returned on 4/16. He denies the damage had been done there and recommends that I make a fraudulent insurance claim so the work can be paid for by my insurance company. I then make calls to the service manager who refuses to talk to me or return my messages. I make a formal complaint to Toyota USA who does nothing but forward my complaint to the dealership. I cannot believe that Toyota USA would not do more about my situation. SHAME ON YOU TOYOTA! This Tundra is the 4th Toyota that I have owned. I've spent over $100,000 on Toyota purchases in my lifetime. Toyota makes a quality product, but I will never purchase another Toyota! As to Dolan Toyota, I just hope anyone who reads this review to decide whether to make a purchase or have servicing work done here to know who and what they are dealing with. Poor diagnostics and customer service. Personal dishonesty and encouraging clients to commit fraud... All to make a buck. Dolan Toyota.... No thank you! Never again!

Toyota vehicles sell themselves

If you've owned a Toyota vehicle then you don't have to be sold on them. They sell themselves if you do the research. The Dolan's have sold me another vehicle and it was done professionally by Craig Burkham. They gave me a fair price on my trade in and Craig presented me with a good offer. At no time did I feel pressured or not in control. The reason Reno Toyota is such a nice place to do business with is their associates and facility. They are in business to make money and they put their money back into their business as you can see when you visit. Some dealerships in Reno I wouldn't step foot on because they have no pride in appearance and their staff as well. I appreciate class and professionalism on whom I do business. From what I research the Dolan family gives back to the community which is what I expect from a company I do business with. Give Craig Burkham and Mason Bondi a call and do yourself a favor. The sale is not just about saving money but the overall service that comes with it.

Change of heart

Please read this in it's entirety as they went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction! I don't even know where to start here......I did buy a used 2003 4runner from these guys and I have to say I have felt uneasy about it ever since. When I went in the sales guy was nice and gave me everything I wanted, I am a single mom and can't afford a new car so I was specific in the fact that I wanted a used something. He made it sound like I got a deal of a lifetime and I was happy with my choice, but then came the finance guy. Not exactly the warm and fuzzy type.....sign here initial here as fast as you can you are in my way I just want to go home is what I got from him. I asked about the timing belt, according to the owner's manual it should have been done at 90,000 miles (this car was at 97,000 miles when I bought it) oh that isn't something we do....after I have signed all the paperwork. He said that if I took it to the dealership they would work with me on the price. Well that is so not the case at all! This was my first car purchase and I have to say I now know what NOT to do. I never should have purchased the 4runner if the timing belt wasn't changed, that was my bad. I have a feeling that these guys knew that and took advantage of me in that way. I am know stuck with a huge bill after just buying my 4runner, thanks Dolan......the family owned dealership......don't make me laugh! So I have to add this.......an hour after I posted this there was the response from Dolan. I gave them my information and the called me soon after I emailed them back. I first spoke with Jeremy who simply wanted to know what had happened, after I explained what all went on he told me he was very sorry for any miscommunication and that he would be more than happy to see what he could to rectify the situation, I agreed and gave him my vehicle's info so he could look into it. I then received a call from Ken, he explained to me that they would not only change out my timing belt, but also do the water pump and inspect a few other little things that I had wanted looked at NO CHARGE to me!!! They also gave me a rental car, a 2015 Highlander! I couldn't be more pleased with the way they went above and beyond for me to fix this. I am more than happy to recommend them to friends and family now.....Thank you ken and Jeremy for all your time and effort and for going above and beyond to help me!!

False pretenses to get me to the dealership

I used Black Book from Dolan's website to appraise the trade in on my 2014 Tundra 1794. I was told by their internet person that I should come in as the appraisal was probably low. I also had rejected their offer of full MSRP on a vehicle to purchase and was told my come back offer had been checked with the sales manager and was "doable". When I got there, they not only took off money from the Black Book appraisal, but lied and said "that's only for the East Coast, we use Kelly here". Remember, I took the link from their site. Then, I was told they had a wonderful offer, they added $699 to the invoice, said they would take it off, along with $1,000 off full MSRP retail. Lies from everyone there and even double teamed me to pressure me to buy. To top it off, the vehicle I was supposed to see (this was Sunday evening) was not even delivered yet and they had no model like it on the lot. I was looking at a 4 Runner Limited. The one they did have, a salesman lost the keys and they couldn't get in to the vehicle. Stay far, far away from this dealership to buy anything unless you like paying full MSRP which I have NEVER done and won't start. Everything is "market adjusted" "we have such high demand". Lol. Low ball on the trade and they profit at both ends. A waste of a Sunday evening and disgusted that people like that are in business, I sent them an email stating integrity is everything. They came back telling me what an honest dealership they are, should have told me they sell full MSRP and only offered the $1000. off after I walked off and told them I would never come back. Yep, they should have, but did not. False pretenses to get you in the door for a high pressure sale. Poor Reno residents, stuck with this.

Very Happy With Purchase

My experience at Dolan Toyota was great! Buying my first car was a huge step and the staff at Dolan helped me find the perfect vehicle. Beth Pollard and Justin Longtin worked hard to ensure I had the vehicle that fit all my needs. I visited other dealerships and their service did not compare to the service I received at Dolan. The experience was amazing; Dolan Toyota will definitely be my first stop next time I need to purchase a vehicle.

All I can say is that they were great and Stan A. must have trained them! Firm, not pressuring, answered all questions, negotiated well and we walked away with an FJ Cruiser (which we love). We kept within our budget, got better than we expected and the around town mpg figures have been far exceeded. I bought my first new vehicle in Reno from them in 1992, this is the latest and all being well the next one will be from them also.

Black Friday

We came here because I had requested info via email and a rep from Reno Toyo was quick to send me sticker info on their inventory. When we got there they were quick to send someone out, but i mean come on! racial profiling? just because we were mexican they send us a mexican who greets us in spanish and they must have thought we were stupid because when we would ask specific questions about their car he didnt know the answer. Another guy comes out and tries to take over and they were just rushing us like they were desperate for the commision(nothing wrong with that) but we just needed some space and time! We ended up leaving and buying new from Carson City Toyota. Reno Toyota was very friendly before we got there, but maybe we just got unlucky with the salesmen we were given.

Watch Out or High Pressure Add Ons!

Beware of Extended Contracts that Dolan will pressure you to buy at time of purchase. They say they are refundable if unused, but you only have a 30 day window to make that claim and no notice will be given. At the time of my purchase, the finance manager at Dolan basically refused to rewrite my contract without the extended and told me all the great things about it and that it was refundable. He left out the crucial fact that you only have 30 days after it expires to claim the refund. I think this is downright deceptive, high pressure sales and if I can warn one or two folks off extended warranties and Dolan's I'll feel a little better about the $2000 they overcharged me at the time for a service contract that I never used or thought I would use. Hope this tells you something about this dealership, as I'll go to Carson to buy a Toyota rather than ever go to a Dolan dealership again. BTW, I missed the deadline by 15 days and Dolan with their purchasing power wouldn't do anything to pressure the extended warranty seller to help me out. My mistake but Dolan won't do anything for you unless they can make a buck off you.

Good experience

Dealers where interested in selling you a vehicle. I would call them firm rather than pushy. Only problem was they would tell you 15 minutes and take 30. In and out in about 3 hours. Everyone we dealt with where friendly and polite.

Ask for the right sales person

The sales person you deal with makes all the difference. If you get a high pressure person, just leave and come back and try again later. Or else go to the sales manager and request Sean Donleavy for your sales person. I'm an older woman--one of those "targeted" by high pressure guys--and I've learned just to be rude right back. This problem is not usually specific to any one dealership. It's all about the sales guy (or gal).
