Don't go here to buy your car!!

by ActiveConsumer on 02/22/2017

Poor sales servicing, when I got the car home it was very dirty and had a bad paint job. A key part of the driver side door was tarnished and they did not take care of it. The car was misrepresented to myself and the followup to repair the car was slow and late. Do NOT go here..

Very pushy and a huge rip off

by ticked7 on 03/04/2015

They offered me $2000 under Kelly Blue Book (the lowest estimate) for my trade which had been appraised elsewhere for over KBB. And were incredibly pushy about the whole process not allowing me any time to consider the offer, They kept telling me that if I didn't make an immediate decision I would lose the vehicle that I was interested in .On top of that the vehicle that they were trying to sell me was priced $2000 over the KBB estimate for the exact same make/model/year/mileage/package. Over all they were trying to rip me off a total of $4000. I would that this is because a am a single woman who presumably doesn't know anything about cars. Over all it was one of the worst experiences that I have EVER had at a dealership. Takes the "used car salesman" stereotype to a whole new level.

Excellent Experience

by belaircarguy on 02/19/2014

Just purchased a 2005 Subaru GT Wagon from CarMax. This is the second vehicle I purchased from this CarMax location. Purchased a Ford Explorer four years ago which I still own. Easy buying, easy negotiating for the car and CarMax stood behind both vehicles for initial bugs that needed to be repaired. For each car I did buy an extended warranty, which I used a couple of time for the Explorer, but have not yet needed for the Subaru. The CarMax extended warranty does work best if you take the car back to CarMax for repairs. Let them fight with the warranty company, rather than you having to do it, or your favorite repair shop owner. The great thing with CarMax is that they have 100% nice used cars on their lot. No junk and so you don't have to worry. The other great thing is that with the extended warranty, my daughter (who will drive the Subaru for college across the country), will have the ability to go to the local CarMax to get the car serviced / repaired and won't have a hassle, as the car / warranty is in the CarMax computer database.

The New Face Of Carmax.......

by cpinkham13 on 09/07/2012

I don't even know where to begin with reviewing my wife and my experience with this Carmax.... For the first week after buying our truck here we were recommending them to everyone, but then the headaches started. They did our financing paperwork wrong and had to refinance a week after picking the car up raising the monthly payments and that's just where it begins. The effort to get the car registered and titled took two and a half months because of errors on their part.... They would send us the wrong paperwork, send us the right paperwork signed in the wrong places, send us the right paperwork not signed, had to retitle the truck in their name to get some of it figured out, and then still sent us messed up paperwork again. To make things worse for that 2 and a half months I had to stay on them with two or three phone calls a week and would get told yes we sent that paperwork to you overnight, only to find out that it hadn't been sent. I finally got to the point where I had to ask for tracking numbers because I was getting mislead, or lied to depending on how you want to look at it, too much. When I called and asked to speak to managers I was rerouted through the office phone lines to different offices and people trying to "help" me without letting me talk to the managers on duty and when I was lucky enough to get someone I was all but once brushed off and treated like I wasn't important. The only thing that seemed to motivate them was the fact that I constantly threatened to bring the truck back if they didn't straighten things out. To make matters worse since my wife is in the Army the truck was being titled in another state, and their delays and mishandling of everything resulted in us having to drive for a weekend to show the truck to the tax office in that state because they wanted to check for fraud since Carmax had sent them paperwork with conflicting info, and we had to pay a late fee to register the truck, and needless to say a weekend with missed work on my wife's part plus gas and expenses for the trip weren't cheap. We thought the cooperate commercials gave a great new face to the company, it's just too bad that they don't show that face to the customer when you walk through the doors!

Carmax Nissan WhiteMarsh MD - Awesome buying experience

by thorman944 on 08/04/2009

After visiting 3 other Nissan Dealers in the Baltimore area and one in Rockville, my wife and I were very distressed at the buying experience. We very much wanted to take advantage of the CARS (cash for clunkers) program, but were really put-off by the attitudes of the dealers that we visited. To be honest, we have some flaws in our credit-history, but felt that with being able to use the $4500 clunker voucher, we would only be financing less than $10K on a $14K car and should be able to get credit. Before the recession, we were considering buying a used car and had financing offers in the 12 to 15% range with $2k down on a $10k car. Apparently, the recession and banking problems have really tightened up lending requirements. Our credit scores have improved since then, and we were looking at 30 to 40% down on a new car but could only get offers of 20% or worse interest. 2 of the 3 dealers refused to give us a yes or no decision on financing after 3 to 4 days. If they were not going to finance us, that is OK, just let me know so I can make alternate arrangements. The one dealer that offered us financing tried to hide hidden fees and extras that would have inflated the purchase price of the vehicle by $1994. Carmax was the complete opposite of those experiences. They let us know within 20 minutes that the financing was going to be a problem. I respect them actually submitting my application to lenders and getting back to me with options. I wanted to avoid getting a co-signer on the loan, but decided that the deal with the CARS program was worth the extra hassle (and indebtedness that goes along with getting a loan with a co-signer). I have always been a bargain shopper and actually like the bartering aspect of buying a car, but I have to admit that CarMax was very fair with its pricing. They applied the factory rebate even though the MSRP sticker and the Carmax sticker did not show the rebate. I wound up spending $1500 more than I really wanted to spend, but getting much more car for the money. I was ready to spend $12900 on a car with auto, a/c, and no other options. For the extra $1500, my wife and I decided to go with the better model with power windows/locks/mirrors, larger engine, alloy wheels, factory radio, keyless entry, cruise control, upgraded interior trim, etc... - a much better value. I like that they gave us options on which model we could choose. I am very glad that the salesperson (Mike) was willing to take the time to go over several models with different packages and even went to the trouble to price out several different packages along with the rebates offered so we could make an accurate and informed decision. Unlike the salespeople at the other dealerships that we visited, Mike spent over 4 hours with us, making sure that we had the opportunity to ask all the questions that we had and taking time to answer them directly. He was with us from the moment we walked in the door and stayed with us until he handed us off to the loan manager. Never did he go away and make us wait or take on other customers who were nosing around the more expensive cars on the lot - something that we experienced at all the other dealerships. Everything at Carmax was straight-forward and honest. No attempts were made to 'upsell' us into buying 'paint sealant' (an $800.00 dollar wax-job that you can get at your local carwash for under $30.00) all the pricing was up-front. There were no hidden fees or unexpected 'shocks' in the financing office. The loan manager was careful to explain everything and make sure that we understood everything we were signing and gave us options on the term and interest rates of several types of loans. The paperwork process was relatively quick and painless. All-in-all, Carmax Nissan at White Marsh was a great buying experience and the total opposite of all the other dealers that we visited in the area.
