Most Deceptive and Rude Dealership

by Carpathius on 02/29/2016

This is the single most corrupt, rude, and deceptive dealership I have ever worked with. I will never recommend anyone visit or work with this dealership. I am sorry in advance for this long review, but I do not want anyone to fall into their traps. Here is my story. I had selected a 2016 Hyundai Tucson for my wife. When I got the invoice for the car discussing prices I noticed something strange. The MSRP for the car was $1,100 higher than the MSRP on the window sticker. I asked what the reasoning for the difference was. I was informed that $99 of the $1,100 was for oil changes for life at their service center. This I agree is a good deal, but regardless make it visible on the invoice and don’t try and hide it in the MSRP on the invoice. The remaining difference in the MSRPs was for the PRE-application of Resitol. I asked the Salesman what Resitol was and he informed me that Resitol protects the car from stains on the inside and outside of the car. If you tear the leather or as the dealership said “acid rain melts the paint,” the dealership would replace the leather or paint, but they won’t fix scratches to the outside of the car, which is significantly more likely to happen. Additionally, the dealership will only fix any problem if you get a second application of Resitol! I asked the Sales Manager how much this costs and he informed me it costs an additional $700. So for the dealership to actually fix anything they expect you to pay an additional $700, but even if you don’t want or need the warranty you are still expected to pay for the pre-application of Resitol. It is essentially $1,000 of zero benefit to most consumers. Not only do they expect you to pay for it they try to hide the amount in the MSRP on the invoice. The next issue on the on the invoice was a line item for “Aftermarket Financed Additions” in the amount of $400. I inquired of the Salesman as to what this amount was for and he stated it is part of the dealership incentives similar to the Resitol “deal,” but I never got a specific explanation as to what it was. I told the Sales Manager that I didn’t want to pay for the Resitol pre-application and whatever other dealership incentive deals there were as I wasn’t going to be using or needing them. He said he would work on a deal where I wouldn’t have to pay for them and how here could get me the best possible deal. After spending all this time at the dealership I let the Sales Manager know I had a walk out price from AutoNation Hyundai that included all fees and sales taxes that if they could match the offer I would buy from them since I was already there. After 40 minutes of “working on his best offer” the Sales Manager comes down and offers me the car for $1,200 more than the final AutoNation price (The exact amount of the dealer incentives, despite him saying he was going to be removing them). Additionally, I noticed that the “Discounts” line item on the invoice had been increased to make it appear that he was giving me a better deal, but what he expected me to not see was the line item “Aftermarket Financed Additions” was also increased. He again tried to bake the incentives in and make it seem like they weren’t there. When I declined the offer, he went into a lecture of how the deal he was offering me was costing them $808, and the deal AutoNation was offering me wasn’t real and instead was used to just get me in the door. My wife asked why they couldn’t match the offer the Sales Manager replied in an extremely rude tone that he always makes money on customers and we should feel honored to get such a good deal from them. The Manager then proceeded to usher me and my wife out the door and said in an extremely hateful way “When you come back and you will, you won’t be getting as good of an offer as the one I just offered you.” The following day I went to AutoNation and got the deal they had promised me for $1,200 less than the “best” Hyundai of Kennesaw could do. It didn’t come with any hidden “dealer incentives” either. I highly recommend them as they are honest and friendly and easy to deal with. [HTML removed]

Great Experience

by metalchick68 on 11/22/2015

I went to this dealership not knowing the outcome. I had been dealing with a Kia dealer for a month and it was not good. This was going to be my last attempt. Sam Sajooa was excellent! He took his time showing me cars and went over every detail after the sale. I had a difficult situation and they made it work. Scott Morris made sure I was going to be able to leave with a brand new car. From the sale to the paperwork everything was exceptional.

I've dealt with Cherokee Hyundai twice now

I've dealt with Cherokee Hyundai twice now and both times I would rate their service as excellent. I think giving them only 5 stars is not sufficient enough.

Credit Where Due -But Not Where it's Not

by frankpharris on 09/14/2012

Before you read my review, know that I am very cynical when it comes to car shopping. I do my research in advance, and take nothing I hear at dealerships at face value. In shopping for a car for my daughter, I did my research at Edmunds and Consumer Reports, which put the Hyundai Elantra GLS at the top of our list. (I let my daughter have some input on appearance, which led to the deletion of the more cube-like cars that were in our price range, such as the Kia Soul.) I checked online to see which dealers near me were showing the most Elantras in stock. Cherokee Hyundai had the most by far, and was as close to me as any, so they were the obvious place to go for a test drive. After I explained what I wanted -- and what I didn't want -- our salesman, Sam Janjooa, let my daughter take a test drive. The test drive was in a fully loaded Elantra, and Sam made a nominal effort at upselling us, but not in an overly pushy way. Hey, that's his job. After the test drive, I explained that we had just started the process, and that I was not really ready to start negotiating yet. But I did ask him about the extra sticker showing dealer-added options. I had noticed that virtually every car had the same items -- window etching; some kind of extra body coating (a/k/a the usual crap); and a third item priced at $1000 and identified only by a set of 3 initials. When I asked Sam what that was, he waved his hand as if brushing the extra sticker away, and said that if I had looked at Edmunds, we would only be talking about "this one" -- indicating the main sticker. I nonetheless looked it up later. It was ADM (or something like that) and stood for "Additional Dealer Markup." Yep -- the dealer was jacking another grand into the price by pretending it had added something to car itself. Really cheesy. The other dealer-added options, even if grossly overpriced, at least added something to the value of the car. But in my opinion it borders on intentional misrepresentation to disguise part of the asking price for the car by hiding it in a list of items that most lay people would reasonably assume involved physical improvements. I almost crossed Cherokee off my list based on that alone. But I ultimately decided to include them when I started shopping price, mostly b/c I did not think it was fair to punish the salesman, who had treated us OK. Well, wouldn't you know it -- Cherokee came in with the best price. Not right away, of course, but with a reasonable amount of dickering. They did not try to throw in an advertising fee. And though the doc fee was way too high, I kept citing to Edmunds. Though they kept the doc fee the same, they reduced the price by the same amount that Edmunds deemed the doc fee excessive, and eventually came down to the a few bucks below the Edmunds FMV. (Other dealers were much slower to respond to my emails – some never responded at all. Those that did respond declined to match or beat Cherokee's price.) I had been so put off by the ADM funny business that I insisted on doing all negotiating via email or text. Sorry, Sam, I know that was a pain in the neck, but I felt like I had to have a written record of all negotiations in order to protect myself from any possibility of a bait and switch -- not b/c of anything Sam did, but b/c of Cherokee's questionable pricing tactics w/ regard to the ADM (or whatever they called it). When I picked the car up, Sam gave me the guided tour of the vehicle, and threw in a few little extras that I had said I was not willing to pay for -- cargo net, first aid kit, & IPod cord. (Also the nitrogen-filled tires, which the car, coming out of dealer stock, apparently already had.) A little lagniappe is always a smart move. Anyhow, I was happy with Sam, and happy with the price I negotiated. And I have no problem with the concept that an informed shopper may wind up with a better deal than someone who comes in without having done their homework. But I think Cherokee Hyundai, and anyone else using the cheesy ADM tactic described above, is doing themselves and the industry a disservice.

What a great experience!

by cadavila on 09/05/2012

e visited Cherokee Hyundai right after being treated poorly at Rick Case Hyundai. What a difference a dealer makes! Stepping off the car we were immediately greeted by Terrance Green. Terrance is knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and professional. He was a pleasure to work with. We also interacted with Ritu Chhabra (who initially contacted us by email and phone regarding our inquiry through the USAA Car Buying Service), Scott Morris and Leslie Pollak. They were all very pleasant and made us feel very welcome and not pressured at all. Initially we did not agree on the numbers, but Terrance and Scott worked with us with a respectful and positive, "can do" attitude and we quickly arrive at a point we were all comfortable with. They stayed late after their normal store hours to complete our paperwork to make sure we were able to drive our new Accent HB home that night. We love the car and loved the experience. Cherokee Hyundai has earned our loyalty, and I wholeheartedly recommend them!

Best experience in 45 Years

by coljohn1 on 08/26/2012

I have been purchasing cars for 45 years. Until Friday believed I had worked with the best sales person. Michael was by far the best I have ever worked with because he made the process comfortable. He understood and met my needs fully with no pressure to make a decision and showed a full acknowledgement and respect of my concerns. The discussions with finance were very pleasant and the entire staff showed us courtesy and respect. Overall likely the best "car buying" experience in my lifetime. I am in sales and experienced the right way to treat a potiential customer from Michael. Thanks Mike

Best Place to Buy a Car!

by ntlanne on 07/05/2012

All of the employees were VERY friendly. Scott went above & beyond his job duties to get us this car. Shawn made us feel just as important as a customer coming in and buying the most expensive car on the lot. The lady at reception brought a menu, forks, napkins & paper plates for us when we ordered some food one night while we waited in the show room (that's when Scott was making calls trying to get us our car). This is the BEST experience I've EVER had at a car dealership. I've recommended all of my family, friends & co-workers to Cherokee Hyundai. I will go there again in a couple of years to trade in my car & get another one. I went to every car dealership on the Barrett Lakes strip & this place caught my attention right away with their warm welcome, attentive employees & EXCELLENT customer service. I brought my husband back that night and the next day we left with out car. I'm still very happy with my experience & my purchase!! Thank you Cherokee Hyundai!! You have a family full of customers for life!

Quality True Dealer!

by jose_alvarado on 06/25/2012

My visit to Cherokee Hyundai was a very pleasant experience from the moment I stepped on that lot to the time I drove off in my newly purchased vehicle. All my questions about the vehicle were answered and backed by documents. It was the best car shopping experience I have ever had and would highly recommend it to anyone, form 1st time buyers to the experienced shopper.I can honestly say it was well worth the 4 hour drive from Savannah, GA. I want to thank Jimmie Bracken, Rick Banks, Greg Gantner, and Scott Morris for having integrity and a level of professionalism superior to their competitors. Thanks Guys!

Lee made buying a car easy

by susans1 on 06/25/2012

Lee made the purchase of my new car very easy, explaining in detail the features of the car / warranty / and worked to get the best price. His knowledge of the Hyundai cars was obvious and his friendliness made the whole experience enjoyable. I would recommend Lee to anyone looking to purchase a new car.

Great Sales Consultant

by dandt3 on 06/23/2012

Purchased a new 2013 Sonata from Cherokee Hyundai a few weeks ago and couldn't be any more pleased with the purchase experience. Katrina Myers was (is) Awesome!!! from the very first minute when we entered the dealership and throughout the sales process. She answered all questions and provided details and follow-up as we worked through the purchase. We had a very defined list of items we wanted and a price we wanted to pay. Both Katrina and the staff worked with us until we matched our needs to a vehicle and then closed the sale and delivery. No high pressure and easy to work with. (A great experience compared to the “Old school” HIGH pressure poor experience we had with the Hyundai dealership in Marietta) If you’re shopping for a Hyundai then Cherokee (and Katrina) is the place to go.

Other car dealerships should take notes from Cherokee Hyundai!

by robinandbarry on 06/15/2012

Our experience with Cherokee Hyundai and especially Jimmie Bracken was the best car buying experience we have ever had!! We had shopped around and knew what we wanted, but had been to another dealership and gotten bombarded by pushy salesmen. Jimmie's style was just what we needed. He was not overbearing, and made the process very enjoyable. Our insurance company was not available, so I had to pick the car up a few days later. When I arrived, everyone we had dealt with remembered me and were genuinely glad to see me. (By the way, the price for the 2011 was better than what we had paid for a 2003 nearly 10 years ago!!) We are recommending Cherokee Hyundai to all our friends and co-workers!

They truly wanted my business and made every effort to prove this through the negotiation process which was greatly appreciated. Thanks to all!

Good Experience

by rrg5 on 04/30/2012

This was a very positive experience with something I don’t particularly enjoy – buying a new car. I enjoyed working with the salesman, Rick Banks, who was knowledgeable and accommodating to our needs. Even my wife commented about Mr. Banks’ professionalism and the lack of the usual car buying “routine”. Not once did I hear the old, worn-out phrase, “What can I do to sell you this car today?” I walk out of dealerships that use that insulting method. The entire experience at Cherokee Hyundai was pleasant and reasonable.

Not very competitive.

by rick2456 on 03/17/2012

One has to wonder how this dealership stays in business. I have twice tried to buy from them (a sonata and veracruz) as they are within a mile of my home. However, I was unable to reach any kind of deal. Fortunately, Ed Voyles Hyundai was far more accomodating and beat Cherokee's best offer by several thousand dollars. Maybe the fact that I was a return customer (to ed voyles) helped, but one has to wonder at the difference on the same model/options and trade in.

All downhill after purchase.

by tcasy80 on 10/12/2011

Purchased a new vehicle from Cherokee Hyundai without any difficulties. This was my first time buying a vehicle but my 2nd Hyundai. I went to Hyundai because I love my other car -- lots of brand loyalty. I didn't expect the experience to be so dismal. After several weeks, I noticed the downpayment still hadn't cleared my bank account. I called them up and talked to someone who first tried to say he didn't know where the paperwork was at, then blamed someone else, then claimed he was in charge, and then tried to blame me. They failed to tell me they needed additional documentation. After I sent them the documentation, bam! the check cleared... no apology, no callback. Now I still haven't received the vehicle's tag. The secretary was laughing at something going on at the dealership while on the phone with me. I thought it was very unprofessional. I'll be surprised if I get my tag this month since they took weeks to process the paperwork. I also don't appreciate the dealership sending me paperwork for 2 purchased vehicles and giving Sirius XM my info twice! I didn't buy 2 cars. Overall, the experience was nothing but downhill, and I expect it to get worse. I would not recommend this dealership. It's really destroyed my opinion of the brand.
