I have taken my VW to Cardinale for all required tuneups, oil changes and inspections. 6 Months ago I felt my transmission slipping and took it to the dealership for service. I told them that I felt it was lagging when changing gears and that I buy the very best gas. After 4 days they returned it to me saying nothing was wrong and that "Customer should buy better gas". As of today they have now had it for 11 days. After the first 3 days they couldn't find anything wrong and then said that VW USA told them to drain the trans. fluid and replace the gear box. I have called every day and they told me it would be ready on Weds. (2 days ago), today they said that they still needed a part that they tracked down to the East Coast and that it would be there on Monday. I asked them how it was possible that in the entire North American Continent that there is on ONE of the needed parts and it is on the East Coast and we are on the West Coast. The service writer (Jesse) calmly told me that yes it must be the only part in existence and aren't I lucky that they tracked it down for me? They have denied the offer of a rental car, until I started getting angry with them and then said they could get me a rental at their cost, something I have been asking for over 10 days. Then he started explaining how a transmission works, something I already know, and that they have been trying very hard to track this part down. Since the only other VW dealership in a 45 mile radius has closed down they are my only alternative for warranty work. This is not the first time that they have kept my car for over a week. I am furious at how I am being treated and how this effects my daily life and that they do not feel any culpability in this situation. If I was the service manager I would be on the phone finding out just what went wrong with the order of this part and FIX IT!! My next purchase will absolutely NOT be a VW!

Contacted this dealer to inquire about service and also found poor communication issues- I own a VW Passat and they try to arrange service through Mazda. Then, they tell me 40K mile service is over $800. Just to change a handful of filters and 4 spark plugs! I informed them other dealers charge $500-$600, which is absurd and their response was 'well there's a lot that is done'. I will NEVER own another VW!

Oh, how I sympathize with this writer. I got my first VW here in Monterey at a combination Dodge/VW Dealer, with a full service facility. I had already purchased a used Dodge there and was familiar with their absolutely excellent service. Then they closed... some 2-3 years ago. Closest dealers are in Salinas and Santa Cruz (way too far away). Huge auto center in Sand City / Seaside, and no VW dealer. I have called the Salinas dealership with questions and their lack of response and apparent understanding of anything to do with cars left me feeling the same... I really don't plan on getting another VW.
