My car was serviced for oil change. They did a great job, changed my wiper blades, and washed my car.

Go Elsewhere for Service

I took my car for warranty work at Ron Smith in Merced. They refused to fix the problem even though it was under warranty. I was accused of abuse, not changing fluids, etc. I showed him the owner's manual did not require the service he was saying. He said he didn't care it had to be done anyway. I would not let them do all that work, I was told that I would have to put $300 up front for them to check it. If they could find a problem they would fix it. That has been a few years and a lot of miles. I have never gone back. All they had to do was do what they should have and would have kept a customer. I did not live in the area when I bought the car but would have bought from them the next time if they had treated me right. Not only did they lose service work but also new vehicle purchases. I recently fixed the problem. I believe they would never have found it; because, they would not have taken the time or put forth the effort. There was a knocking noise at the rear of the engine/front of transmission area. I tore it down and found the pilot bearing was completely gone except for the inner and outside portions. No acutual bearing. While there I went ahead and put in the whole clutch kit. Problem fixed. No more knocking noise, sounds great like it should have when it was new. I had one other minor problem with them but went back after that. They were doing work on another car. The same service writer called me and basically blackmailed me. He said they would not cover the repair work with a warranty unless they could flush then engine. He said that old gaskets may have dropped into it etc. If that was the case I should have been told about that up front. I have done that work myself on other cars and never had a problem. These people are supposed to be professionals. I would hope they are better than me. During that visit they also told me I needed a new battery which was fine. He said it would be easy to do while they were doing the other work. I agreed but they charged me about $100 to put it in. I thought this was a little exhorbitant since he said it would be easy. Wal Mart would have done it for free. I am basing my answers below on this experience since they would not do the warranty work I requested.
