Exceptional Service from Start to Finish!

by Melissa A on 08/09/2021

After multiple failed attempts at scheduling an appointment or even test driving a car I can't begin to express how thankful I am to Jay Schaeffer, Caleb Escalante & Chapman Hyundai for the top notch service we received! This was an extra special purchase as it was my niece's first time purchasing her own car. Upon arrival Jay met us with a genuine smile & positive vibes - We knew we were in good hands! Jay was very knowledgeable in giving us info, recommendations & even tips to help us wrap up final decisions. Caleb was kind, thorough and patient in explaining the finance details & helped us solidify our purchase. Both Jay & Caleb stayed after hours putting their weekend plans on hold just so we could complete this purchase. Their dedication to customer service exceeds every car purchasing experience I've ever had! I highly recommend Chapman Hyundai - we are beyond happy with my niece's purchase - a 2018 Tucson Hyundai! :D

Great Experience

by BorisA on 09/30/2020

My wife and I purchased a 2021 Palisade yesterday and we worked with Yannick and Andres. I have bought quite a few cars over the last 35 years but I think my experience with these guys was by far the best overall. They are very easy to work with, straight forward, and no nonsense or B.S. Everyone at the dealership we met was just plain nice and we never got that stereotypical "car dealer" feeling....you know what I'm talking about. The negotiations were straight forward. I did my homework and knew what bottom line dealer cost was and offered what I thought was a fair profit for them and they accepted. There were no surprises or post negotiation add-on pressures placed on us. Dakota in finance is a great guy as well. Quick and easy, no surprises, and fun to work with. The car was prepared beautifully and Yannick did a fantastic job taking us through all the features and details of the car to make sure we were comfortable driving home. As far as the Palisade is concerned, it is a beautifully made vehicle. Only time will tell for sure as this is our first Hyundai, but we are really impressed so far. It seems like Toyota and Honda now has some serious competition.

Knowledgeable and low pressure

by Kent on 05/06/2020

Carl was very knowledgeable and low pressure. Allowed us to test drive 4 cars to make sure we got the right combo of options and configuration. I have owned 2 Lincoln's, 2 BMW's and 7 Cadillac's and this experience was right up there with the best. Traded a 4 year old BMW and there is no comparison of value for money compared to the Genesis. I see some bad reviews on this site. Not my experience at all. I suggest you ask for Carl.

The Worst Sales office I have ever endured

by Douglas45 on 05/27/2018

The following is long but please read in it's entirety as these folks are extremely BAD. I have been purchasing cars since I was 20 and am now 73 and Saturday's debacle was far and away the worst time I have ever had with a car dealership. I had been called by an Internet salesman and specifically asked that no phone calls be made to me but gave them my e-mail instead. Within 5 minutes I got call from the Asst. manager to arrange an appt. time when I already had set one with the salesman, I mentioned the no call and she ignored me. I told her I only was interested in the Red Sonata SE as I had already driven one at another dealership close to home. 2 hrs. later the Sales Mgr. called to set an apt. and basically repeated the Asst. comments, ignoring my no call. Later that day I got 2 more calls from the Asst. internet lady confirming my Sat morning appt. time and insisting I ask for her and not the salesman. I guess by this point I should have realized what was coming but I try to give everyone a second chance. SHOULD NOT HAVE! My son drove me from Ahwatukee area to Scottsdale only to find that they did not have a Red SE model in stock. She then went through over one hour of Old School car sales. Made me drive the Sonata about 50 feet down the driveway so she could tell her Mgr. I had test driven the car, tried over and over to sell me a car with a different color none of which I wanted and had told her this several times. Then we moved to the red SEL model which she would not discuss price including commenting the "Seniors like myself need all the safety features the SEL has". I am 73 BUT once was a professional athlete and for my age I have been in a hospital overnight twice in my life and each time 1 night. The first time was when I was 3 and had my tonsils removed. Insulting--I think so, even older people don't like stereotyping. When she returned inside she took my offer sheet and said she needed minutes to check with her Manager. After 40 minutes I asked another salesman to find her for me and she came back into view but NOT TO ME, instead went into offer room where I went to see her as she mentioned they might need to get a Red SE model from another dealership. I asked her did she order that model as she had not mentioned anything about a price as yet and she said "No I didn't order another car" and then turned away. I asked Are we finished and did not answer me but instead raised her hand to me and started talking to another person. She came out 5 minutes later, no explanation and at this point my son and I wanted out and I asked for the offer sheet I had given her. She stated I will give you that back when we are done. At this point I think my anger got the best of me so I told her that since they don't have the car I want I would consider the SEL model if they could put the price down in the range of the SE model and could we negotiate that. She turned around and went back the office where she left my offer sheet, from another dealer, threw it at me and said :have a nice day" and walked away. I am aware that this horror story does not sound real or perhaps I had an axe to grind but I swear every word is true. I was treated very respectfully by 2 other dealerships in the area and eventually negotiated the SEL Red model for a fair price. Ask yourself, if this was not true would I have gone to this much trouble to say so? I worked from age 17 to age 65 and know that employees pretty much live up the expectations of those they work for. I moved to Arizona in 1971 and the Chapman name on cars was old then and I would never have thought that at of their dealerships would treat potential customers thusly. AVOID THIS DEALERSHIP LIKE THE ACTIVE EBOLA VIRUS.

Aggressive, rude and unwilling to work with you or honor offers.

by rachcfost9 on 12/29/2016

Of the several Hyundai dealers I worked with this one was by far the worst. I went in last Tuesday (12/20/16) to follow up on a specific offer given to me by an internet sales manager for a specific car. The dealership manager tried to sell me a completely different car. Not only did he not honor the offer I was given but he was extremely argumentative, rude and aggressive toward me. It was so bad that I had to leave immediately. I highly recommend Earnhardt Hyundai North Scottsdale or Larry H Miller Hyundai Peoria. They gave me very pleasant service. Please save yourself time and don’t even consider Champan Hyundai Scottsdale.

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!!!

by akacatch22 on 09/04/2016

I visited nearly every dealership in the valley. I was also getting online quotes. One person stood out...Don Williams! He was my sales rep. He was helpful, informative, straight forward and honest! Can you believe that!?! He went above and beyond to help me. When I arrived, he had my car ready and most of the paperwork complete. Don made things smooth, efficient and fun. Every person I came in contact with was amazing! Everyone was kind and truly helpful. I know I got an amazing deal and some extras to boot, but I would have gladly bought from them even if it wasn't the best deal in town. They have created a "raving fan" in me!!!

Do not go to this place !!!!

by ChaeKyeong on 04/10/2016

I got a quotation from Edmunds.com and the sale person called me (Jim, John or whatever). The main reason why I visited that store is he said they have a lot more physical stocks than the system shows. When we went there, there is only one Accent (I specifically needed an Accent) left. He lied to me. He said they have 6 or something. We did walk around the parking lot for a while to find non-existed other cars. He called somewhere then he told me that they sold 5 cars of Accents yesterday. What??? I really really wish I should run away at that moment. Anyway, I purchased an Accent at that day and they asked me to pay in cash. I tried to pay part of my payment (to get points) with my visa card but they said Arizona law requires to pay in cash to purchase a vehicle. Is it true? By the way, I have 785 FICO score. What I do not understand is how all the people are so cooperating to cheat their customer. They were so pushing to sell extra warranty and financing by asking me more than 5 times. Then, the price suddenly went up tremendously with all the hidden cost. Anyway, I purchased it because I needed that car urgently for my friend, temporary guest. Because the tinting was not enough (one of my daughters has sun allergy), the sales person promised that he will do something for us. Then, I could not find him for 3 days after purchasing my car and he did not do anything. It seems like he thought that I will return the car so he was continously hiding? Eventually, he asked me $300 for another tinting a week later. WOW!!!! He must think that I am a bank or something. What he did was just avoiding me. I talked with their customer service manager and they do not care once they sell the car. They are very good at avoiding issues and running away. It is surprising that the customer service manager cannot do anything but covering their sale man's fault. I talked with my lawyer to put them in trouble but my lawyer said it is not worth it because this place is already notorious for ripping off customers. it is clear that they just want to milk money as much as they can from the first customer then say bye~. Customers will never come back. But, Chapman Hyundai does not care because most Americans do not purchase a vehicle frequently. They just need to attract new customers who have no idea about them. I am a Korean and I used work for Hyundai in Gyedong HQ building (supporting Mr. Jeong, a big man who is a son of Hyundai founder) in Seoul. I know a lot of critical people there and I filed my experience/complain report. I also called Hyundai USA and Atlanta factory to make sure everybody knows the name of this dealer. Actually, they laughed at me how Hyundai man (actually, woman) can be cheated/ripped off by Hyundai dealership. I was surprised this dealer has so many complains filing in Hyundai, USA. Since I posted this story on Koreans and Chines community web sites, none of them will go to this place. I made sure this dealership's customer satisfaction rate will reflect true numbers (they offered $20 free gas for 10 satisfaction rate but I put 0 zero) and my experience presentation files will be used for sales men training purpose within Hyundai. I guess that I have been ripped off (with all the hidden cost, my Accent price went up almost like Elantra) because I am a foreigner. They think I cannot do anything because I am not an American, but I could do something more because I am a foreigner. I believe Chapman's sales policy is clear. They do NOT care once sell it. But, they really should understand good customer will come back continuously with their family and friends if you are doing business right. By the way, I purchase a car every two years. If you go there, you need to pay attention when they add several additional hidden cost after agreeing with the vehicle price. They will use tons of tricks to increase your vehicle price later. Also, they put my wrong name on the contract paper so I asked my sales person (John or whatever) to change it. He said that he will do it. But, my wrong name was on the paper. I asked them several times. However, I still get Hyundai promotional material under my wrong name. Last but least, the internet sales manager said he will give me $100 from his own pocket if I refer my friend. Is this true? From his pocket? I am just wondering whether the owner of this dealership actually does care about his business with these non-integrity oriented people.

Waste of time

by shathen on 05/20/2015

After several weeks of research of the vehicle I was interested in I ended up contacting Chapman Hyundai. They had a great price on an accent that I was interested in advertised. When I got there however all my pleasant expectations were washed away. Now let me preface this by saying that I was in Auto sales for almost ten years myself, my brother has been in for five and my father for almost thirty. I know just about every trick of the trade and let me tell you these guys are going textbook. When I arrived the gentleman I had an appointment with was called away on an emergency... ( Trick #1... This is called a TURN when a staff member is double stacked on deals or does not want to be bothered) We let the new salesperson know what we were looking for and when she went to go get it we were looking at almost an hour before she pulled the car up. We took the car for a test drive and everything appeared fine. When we got back to the dealership we started to look at numbers. First they brought out a full boar pencil. ( trick #2... Hit the customer high in order to determine what they can handle and hopefully get them to bump up their price expectations.) I was not about to deal with this and sent the salesperson back to the desk manager. When she returned she said to me that "if I was in the business that I should know how this works". She proceeded to show me a set of numbers that solely doubled my down payment and shortened my term to look like the interest rate was better. ( Trick#3... Find the customer hot button and only address that so they feel like they are getting what they want.) At this point I was done with the games and my wife and I went around the corner and bought a Kia from a dealership that treated us fairly and did not play games with their customers.

Thank you so much Chip!!

by itsstephhh on 01/14/2015

Just had the easiest time working with Chip here, I'm surprised he doesn't have more reviews! After all of the horror stories I've heard from dealerships, I wanted to avoid all of that and used this website because my dad told me that its the best way to go. Then Chip and James contacted me after I inquired about my Elantra with the Price Promise quote on a specific Elantra (vin and everything included of course) and when I got there I got to choose a different color even though it wasn't the exact VIN and STILL got the same deal without losing the stuff inside! Joe the Sales Manager came out and greeted me and actually had a sense of humor while I was filling out the paperwork :) The older reviews don't do these guys justice!!! Even though they might not be the closest to your house, I would definitely call and ask for Chip and see if they can help. Thanks again Chip James and Joe!

Deceitful as it gets

by cmbay19 on 11/14/2012

I'm going to make this short since you're probably getting the picture from the other reviews as well. Our salesman made a point to sell us on a vehicle with all wheel drive. It was the feature that set us over the edge to buy. He discussed it with us no less than 15 times that night of purchase. A few days later I realize we have a two wheel drive vehicle!!! I went back to the dealership and they basically told me too bad and all they might be able to do is sell us another car!!! That means a higher price, more fees and taxes and they expected me to pay that! They also promised two accessories when we purchased it but it was over a week and plenty of complaining later before we got them. Just a bunch of shady salesmen. Don't trust a word and just go to a real dealership.

Worst Dealership Ever!!!!

by kspringfield on 04/28/2012

My husband & I went in to get a 2013 Genesis Coupe at the end of March. They did not have the car in, but it was supposed to arrive the following week. We were told we had to sign a purchase order in order for them to hold the car for us so we did. We were also told at this time to ignore the price on the purchase order since it did not include anything about the trade. Finally after 4 weeks of waiting (YES 4 WEEKS) the car arrived. Please keep in mind during this time I called the dealership numerous times to get an ETA & no one could ever give one to me (I thought this was strange, but it is what it is). So finally on Friday 4/27 my husband went down to pick up the car. Yay - NOT SO MUCH!!!! While we were waiting for the car to come in I wanted to finalize the numbers & we were given an OTD price of $27,936. I said deal lets do this. When the husband got down there today he was told they made a mistake the price is now $29,200 otd. They didn't add in some of the taxes. I was mad but said whatever. Then he gets to financing & is told the otd price is $31,961. Are you kidding me? After my husband called me, I called the salesman & he ADMITTED that they are the ones that made the mistake, but they will do NOTHING about it. I had him go to his boss & ask if there was anything they could do since this last price difference was all on them & they wouldn't budge! I have never been so disappointed in a car dealership in my entire life!!! This place is ridiculous. After waiting 4 weeks & then for them to admit to making quite a large mistake, you would think they would do something about it, but they wouldn't. Unbelievable!!!! My husband left & I will go buy this this car somewhere else where they care about their customers. Do yourself a favor & stay away from this dealership!!! You will save yourself from a lot of unwanted stress & disappointment!!!

Worst car buying experience I have ever had

by lushqua on 02/17/2012

On 1/20 I purchased a 2010 Nissan Maxima, Bruce was the salesman and at the time was great as was Marcus in finance. On other small thing that did bother me was that I was given the car with less than ¼ tank of gas in it. I received a call from Bruce a few days after my purchase to see how I was enjoying the new car. At that time I mentioned to Bruce that I thought there were floor mats when we test drove the car but after it came back from being detailed there were no floor mats. Bruce told me that there had not been any in the car but he would find some for me and should have them in about a week. On Monday afternoon I received multiple calls/messages from Bruce asking me to come back to the dealership that day. One of these messages stated that Marcus needed me to resign something; another stated that Marcus forgot to have me sign something and that Bruce had the floor mats for me and that because it was the end of the month they needed me to come back that day or the next. I called Bruce back yesterday to let him know that I had time in between meetings and would come in around 2pm. I arrived at the dealership and first met with Bruce who told me to give him my keys and he would put the floor mats in the car while I spoke with Marcus. I then went back to speak with Marcus. He let me know that he was able to get financing but it was $1144 short of the cost of the vehicle and wanted to know if I had that difference to give. I told him I did not but could get it to him when I get paid again on 2/9. He asked if I could give him a check and I told him that I do not carry a checkbook as I don’t write checks. He went back and forth between me and someone in another office multiple times with different requests. First I was asked to come back with a check later in the day, I told him that I could not as I live in Avondale and would not drive all that way back. Then another gentleman (I don’t know his name because he never introduced himself) very rudely asked if someone else could grab my checkbook and bring it, I told him my husband and I both work and that would not happen. I also told him that it would have been helpful to know exactly what was needed so that I was prepared when I walked in the dealership rather than the generic messages that I needed to sign something. To which he made some comment to me about they have been trying hard to work this deal out as he had his back to me and walked out of the office. Please let me say that Marcus has been more than helpful and very professional throughout this process. We figured out a plan and the deal was taken care of. I went back to get my keys from Bruce on my way out. As I got back in my car I was completely taken aback to see the floor mats that had been placed in the vehicle. They do not match the interior of the car, they are old used mats that they tried to clean up that have stains on them and holes! I received an email request from the general manager of the dealership asking for feedback on my expereince stating that he was very responsive to email. I Sent him an email about my experience and never heard anything back from him directly. I received an email from their customer relations manager apologizing for the experience with the finance guy and telling me she had ordered new mats for me. She never once addressed the issue with the gas in the car. The weekend following all of this I started having issues with the car not starting, after taking it to AutoZone and finsing out the battery was bad I emailed the sutomer relations manager to let her know about the battery asking is they could take care of it. I finally received a response a few days later telling me to bring it in and she would see what they could do. I'm sorry but it's a little too late, that's not something that I can just sit around a wait for them to finally respond on. I will never go back to this dealership and I will continue to share this experience with anyone I know looking to purchase a new vehicle. Stay clear!!!

Sold me a car they did not have!

by karenna on 06/02/2011

May 31 2011 - Called CHAPMAN SCOTTSDALE HYUNDAI after numerous e-mails with Wes Marks whom did not seem that interested in selling a car. Spoke to Jake Gendreau, Internet Sales Manager. He said he had the car - a Sonata Limited,Red w/ Nav, available but it was at his sister store. I asked if I could give him all my info and credit card # to hold it for me. He told me to come down to the store since he could not "pull" something that was necesary without me there. I said Okay and that I would like to test a similar Sonata but had VERY LIMITED TIME. He said he would have everything ready. Arrived 12:00 or so. After 2 and half hours with Jake Gendreau and Ted Steer, I had signed a Retail Order for a Motor Vehicle/Vehicle Being Purchased form, they had me sign a Secure Odometer Disclosure with 25 miles on it (I asked Jake how they got that number since the car wasn't there yet and he said he estimated??? - THERE ARE FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS ABOUT FALSE STATEMENTS), and they had charged my credit cards for $6,000 - I was told they needed to close the deal that day and could I go get the rest of the balance of the car and they would now detail the car and have it ready for my pick up when I got back. At 2:30 I left for a lunch and a rest then to get the check from the bank. Arrived back at 5:00 looking forward to finally test driving my car before handing over the check. THERE WAS NO CAR!! And I never got to test drive one. I was told it was still at their sister store and they could deliver the car the following day at 1 PM sharp. **The next morning @ 8:30 Jake called to say he had the car and it was being detailed but he needed my Cashiers Check and could he come pick it up? I said I would give it to him when I had the car. He said he had to have the check that morning so they could count the sale for May. I told him not till I saw the car. At 9:30 he called to say he was going to pick up the car from his other dealership?? (He must have forgot his 8:30 message.) At 12:45 I called him at the dealership and asked if the car would be at my home at 1:00 - he said "Yes". (I live 40 minutes away.) I asked him if the car was ready and he said he would go check. He came back on the line and told me the tint was not done yet and that he could deliver it the following day. FRUSTRATING BEYOND WORDS! Called another Hyundai dealership and had them look up the VIN # and guess what - it was in route and was not at either Chapman dealership. Called the GM - Eddie - & told him I wanted to cancel the purcase of the car. He was very kind and apologized and said that I could have the $6,000 refunded to my credit card since I did not receive the car. He also said he would use what happened as a training tool for the staff so it would not happen again and that yes - they did not have the car at either dealership as I was told. RATINGS: Price - which was $29,094.01 out the door - "BAD" since I did not get a car and went thru a major hassle. Customer service, Friendliness and Quality of Work - Rated BAD since there was so many lies and they did not respect my time. Proof: Purchase contract, secure odometer disclosure and phone recordings. I now have an order for the same car with another dealership - it took less than 45 minutes and I test drove both the Sonata Limited and Ltd w/ Turbo. Both fun to drive.

no very honest

by delamitri72 on 03/15/2011

I had been shopping for a 2010 Elantra SE and had been given a great price by Avondale Hyundai for 5 years/60months. The only problem was the car was black and this is Phoenix, very hot in the summer, so I wanted to find the car in silver. I called the internet sales guy told him exactly what the deal was at avondale, price, 5 years/60, trade in and that i needed a different color. He called back told me we had great news, quoted me a price that was just about the same for the car in silver, just what i wanted. I drove across town the next morning. I was just about to sign the deal, we were just going over some mickey mouse things, when somehow we ended up in the manager area to look at the manager screen. My wife noticed "72". I reminded the sales guy we were talking "60" months. He said yes, the manager said no. The whole time we were negotiating was over 72 months, they never said that, and their 72 month price was the same as avondales 60 month price. When I told the manager, I was only interested in a 5year/60 month deal he plugged in new numbers that were not even close. I told him that. Now the manager and saleguy were on the same page. They told me that I should then buy the car from avondale but that I would be back there. I told them this was really not nice to make me drive across town for numbers different than what I asked for. They made no apology or attempt to negotiate.
