Great, up to a point
I got this car a year ago from my grandfather, and it had 183,000 miles on it then. It had been well- maintained, but over the past year it's needed a new starter, a new battery, a new timing belt kit, a new water pump, and a new serpentine belt. It also developed a weird problem where, after stopping and starting several times in succession (as in running errands) it wouldn't start for awhile, and no one could ever diagnose what that was. The car now has 198,000 miles on it and I'm done sinking money into it - I'm getting rid of it! However, this car performed great for a long time and took a lot of abuse well.
first chrysler
i just got this car 12/2010 i drove goldie from end of town to another end on the hwy oh thats what i call her. and really getting down on it it was about a 30mi drive and the car drove like my 97 deville great the 3.2 V6 motor was great pasting cars in my way the car has 153***mi on it and it drives like it just 100 mi on it i like this car so far and it looks good gold on gold nice leather no cranks big i mean big truck room. i drove to work to day and my job is about 20 to 30 minutes from home so thats a drive but i dont mine it in this car it rides good it relaxing i give this car 4.5 star so far.
Great style, wouldn't buy another
Great style, amazing fuel economy (24MPG), comfortable, enormous space (the back is like a limo), good performance considering the engine is only 3.2 liter in such a large car. Handling not bad either. Dealers unpleasant. Horrible buying experience, worse service - snotty attitude, rip off pricing including doing unneccessary work Quality a problem. Squeaks, rattles. Leaking power steering. Problem starting at one stage. Transmission failure. A/C fan failure. Driver's power window failed twice, including collapsing into the door in a rainstorm, electrical problems, including flashing headlights. I decided that was the end...
Awful
We bought our car in 2006. Our biggest problems have been....in order to get to the battery, you have to jack up the car and take the front wheel off; You can't possibly change the headlight bulbs yourself; the brake lines went; the front drivers side seat broke; the gas gage broke; the headlights have to have the scratches buffed out at least once a year; the check engine light never came on untill the day the engine went...no warning; oh, and the windsheild design makes you feel sick when you drive it.
Loved this car!
I have been through several cars, and this by was my favorite!! Unfortunately, a buck deer brought an early end to my car.. The car handled great, was luxurious, and was absolutely beautiful! I will miss her dearly. I am currently looking at a 300M to take her place.
Love the Leg Room
I bought this (used) car because of the stats for rear seat leg room (the best I could find). Was concerned about the low front window, but aclimated within days. The main computer went out within 24 hours (@42000 miles), the headlight gaskets creep out of place, but at 147000 miles I have had one other non-major repair and love it almost as much as my Porsche. It feels luxurious, rides like a dream. The gas mileage is surprisingly good. Even a 6- footer will be comfortable in the rear seat. The pass-through to the trunk is also a plus - especially when grocery items roll to the back of the trunk, because this is the only way I can reach them!
Beautiful ride
This car has been a joy. The interior spaciousness; the massive trunk; the beautiful exterior; the tight handling... This car fit our family's needs to a 'T'. Was it perfect? No. The engine whined a bit when pushed. There were a few minor electrical gremlins over the years. The door-mounted speakers were a bit tinny. We had Chrysler add sound-proofing under warranty. If we had paid $60,000 for this car, I might feel differently, but this car was worth every penny of its $25,000 purchase price, and then some. Can't tell you how many people, over the years, have commented on how beautiful the car is. We'll be holding on to it for another two years, or so.
Excelent!
I bought this car in February, with only 43,000 miles on it. The car is incredibly comfortable. The interiors have great looks but materials feel cheap, specially the seats, which having leather surfaces, include too much leatherette inserts and the construction of interior and body could be better. The looking is great and runs very nice with a very strong response, although the motor feels tight. In the freeway, it easily reaches speeds over 90. The car has incredible reflexes for the size of the car but the noise of wind and tires are particularly annoying. Nevertheless, this problem can be partially corrected by increasing the volume of the stereo which, by the way, sounds very good.
2.7 litre engine stinks on 98 Concorde
I loved my Concorde and would never have dreamed that 2 years after I purchased it and paid off a $9,000.00 dollar loan I wouldn't be driving it anymore. The engine blew unexpectedly. I have heard so many people now say that the 2.7 engine stinks and the car engine was not built correctly. I can't believe Chrysler has not opted to help the customer out and recall these cars because of this, I work hard for my money and now have to sink my money into another car. Do not buy a Chrysler Concorde with a 2.7 engine, they stink.
An Sedan with Class and Style
I was sold the first time I test drove the Concorde. I didn't even think about purchasing one until the dealer asked my to at least try it out. Good thing I did, I haven't had one problem since purchasing last year, and that's after 20,000 miles of non- highway miles! A great buy, I feel I got a great deal and love all the options.
Car broke down in 4 days of having
I have owned this car for 4 days and it broke down on me. I do think this is a great car if you buy it from a reliable source. I think this car already had this major problem, and the dealer was dishonest. I bought this car as-is, but under the understanding that the car was running fine and didn't have any major problems. The economy is at it worst and you have people out there taking advantage of people; trying to fill their pockets while someone else is left in the cold. I feel so used and hadn't been able to sleep behide this.
Best car I've ever owned
3.2L engine, great power. Leather interior attractive. Infinity sound system-superior, mileage on road 30.7mpg. Only major repairs were replacing the ignition switch which had a short in it and air conditioning evaporator which developed a leak. Battery difficult to get to with access at front passenger wheel well. Huge trunk, overhead console with trip meter, compass, mpg calculations, distance till empty features.
Great Find!
I live in Michigan and the winters for those of us who live here can be brutal! I purchased this car from a small mom and pops dealership. I have the car now for about two years and I have no complaints being a used car with over 142,000 miles! I bought the car with 110,000 miles. I have not had any repair issues other then your regular oil change, and tires that I have purchased. I too agree the the rubber strip around the head lights is a pain. Keep popping out. The ride is quiet and solid. The air is awesome and I have turned it down many times because it was freezing me out. This is a great car for a used vehicle. I do expect to get another 100,000 miles. Great used car!
Decent Car for the money
I bought my LXi wrecked with 29000 miles and rebuilt it. It now has 86000 and still runs great. At 10 years old, it's showing its age. Comments: The 3.2 is a great engine. Could (and does)go to 150,000 if cared for. The 2.7 is horrible. Stay away at all costs. I agree with other posters: Gas mileage is very good ~25-27mpg for a big car. Car is huge inside. Things wear out on this car like any other (battery, air cond, brakes, waterpumps, etc.). Has an issue with the automatic air conditioning display. The display will quit displaying the temp, but the buttons, and control still function normally. To me, not a huge deal.
Very happy Concord owner
We purchased our Concord to replace the family minivan that served us well for 10 years. This car looks great and drives even better. Lots of leg room in back for teenage family and friends. Mega trunk has lots of room. We put many miles on since owning it and have enjoyed the long trips as well as the short ones. We added a spoiler to go past the family car image.
solid performer
I've owned this car for more than five years. Very dependable; good overall performance; great styling and surprisingly decent mileage. Low repair bills so far
Run From This Car
Bought it new, and have had constant problems with it mechanically. Electric window replaced, door locks failed, three catalytic converter sets, three fan motors, radio had a short, oil leak, started burning oil at 65,000 miles, finally water pump broke without a sensor warning and the engine block cracked. At $5,000.00 to replace with a used engine, it's headed for the junk yard.
Worst car I ever owned
Normally do not submit reviews, but this car was/is just so bad I can't help myself. 2 major problems before it hit 60k miles. Currently runs without an electronics, as the fuses all short out within a day of replacing. Local Chrysler dealer can not figure out whats wrong, so just told me to buy "alot of fuses". Various problems the car had to be towed twice. Air conditioner also broke down. $900 repair bill on that one. I don't have the nerve to sell it and burden another person with this vehicle. I will have to eat the 25G I lost on it. All the local dealer could tell me when I asked if this was a lemon was "parts go bad".
Chrysler Concorde
Exellent car but headlight gaskets and plastic hood cowl kept falling off. Plastic headlight lens discolored very quickly.
Super Automobile
I've owned every car imaginable and this is the best ever, in every respect. After 90000 miles its time to move on - Prius is next, but the Chrysler was great.
Troubles after 100,000 miles
This is a great car. We purchased it new and never had any problems outside of normal wear and tear. At 100,000 miles, the car seemed to fall apart. The water pump failed (it needs a redesign), several sensors have failed, including the oil pressure sensor twice, the cam sensor (even the replacement failed after 1000 miles), and now we have a rod bearing problem. We have 121,000 miles on it now and can't give the car away. It was a fantastic car up to 100K.
98 White Concorde
Purchased the car brand new in July of 1998, and have enjoyed it ever since. I have had some mechanical problems, with the most expensive being the failure of the #1 fuel injector. I also had the windshield washer pump fail, and the fan belt tension wheel needed replacing. The headlights yellowed very quickly. I was able to buff them out, but was surprised how bad they got. The rubber trim around the headlights was falling apart within the 2nd year of owning it. The tires that came with the car were the worst I ever owned. Interior problems consisted of the pass thru door on the backseat breaking, and the bench seat console lid broke and would not shut properly.
Beautiful car
This car has the most luxurious interior of any other car I've driven. It has great looks and comfort. That's about all it's got. At 55,000 I've replaced the rotors, brakes, tie rods, transmission fluid and filter. The check engine light comes on for no reason. The power window motors have been replaced and the speakers work intermittently. I'm at the mechanic's every other week for some reason or another.
I love my car
I love my car. I'm glad that we had the warranty, a few things did need fixed. We had a problem with the power windows, some kind of clip broke off inside and had to replace the drivers window twice and the front passenger twice (they put a scratched window in that's why they had to do it twice). They also had to replace a pump (not sure what kind) plus a few other mechanical things, we have probably spent $300.00 for mechanical repairs so far, thank goodness. I'm not too crazy about the gaskets on the headlights, other than that I love my car.
255,000 miles and counting
overall it's been the best car i've ever had. i've taken care of the car since the day i bought it and truthfully the car doesn't owe me anything. repair has included a new transmission but only because i was tired of a little leak, radiator, alternator, two tune-ups, brakes which i've done myself, wheel bearings, front end bushings etc...the battery lasted 7 years and 2 months. it's been a pleasure to drive and anyone looking at the car would say that it's in excellent to mint condition. i'm hoping to get another 150,000 miles out of it. i've heard nightmarish stories about the concorde, intrepid, and the 300m but then i look at the upkeep and simply say that i've taken care of my car.
Lucky buy
We didn't have much money then. This car worked for us. Has been a great auto. Speed sensor went out twice in first year and dealer (other than selling dealer) was great. Even lent us another car. Other than normal wear items, have had to replace only 2 O2 sensors. Great mileage and power for size of car. Wind noise developed after 4 years and mechanic realigned driver window. Says that's common with these big Chryslers. Noise much lower. I think it was a bargain after 8 years and $22K we paid for it.
Best car I've ever owned
I hate to say goodbye to this great car, but after 8 years and 115,000 miles it's time to trade. The ride is smooth and in the time I've owned it, I've had no major repairs. All I've done is change the oil on schedule, new tires and brakes as needed and tuned it up on schedule. What a great value this car has been. I wish Chrysler had something similar to offer now. I don't care for the retro look of the 300.
Concorde
Bought used after my 97 Concorde was totalled. This 98 included all the little customer desired comfort features that were not in my 97. When I bought it, there was 55000 miles on it, but it was clean as if it had just come out of the show room. Good ride..good feel. Average overall mileage the first year was 22.3 mpg; cruising on an interstate at 70mph it indicated about 30mpg on level road. Regular fuel on a 3.3 engine.
Please run away from this car!
In 2006, if you're looking at a used Concord or Intrepid with the 2.7 engine, run away very fast! The engine was totally mis-designed and the interior parts don't get enough oil to keep them lubricated. My Concord had 72,000 miles on it and it just up and died. $5000 to put a rebuilt engine in it! Unheard of at 72,000 miles. Again, don't walk - RUN!
Just the Truth. I love this Car!
Just simply the best car I have ever owned. I have had many other makes and have driven for over 40 years.
Best Used Car for the Buck
Bought with 135,000 miles and this has to be one of the most appealling large American family car, this is coming from a 21 year old. Great fuel mileage, takes the abuse I give it well. Added mods: cold air intake, and small bumper mods. One of the easiest to work on new cars I ever worked on as well.
1998 Chrysler Concorde 4 Dr LXi Sedan
I purchased the Concorde used but with low mileage. It has been an excellent vehicle and joy to drive. The 3.2 v-6 has ran great. One tune up at 98,000 miles and the use of Amsoil syn 10x30 has had the engine getting excellent mileage and no problems. The only problem was the power steering unit that went bad twice and was replaced under warranty at around 60,000 miles. I had purchased an extended warranty. My son has the vehicle now and it has 115,000 miles and running great.
A more than decent car
We bought this car to replace my wife's 1989 Eagle Premier. The Concorde chassis is based on the Eagle. Car is a very comfortable and eats freeway miles without a problem. Engine power is more than adequate and drive train noise is minimal although coarse road surface noise is transmitted to the interior. Handling with good performance tires (HR or VR) is very good. Stock rubber, Goodyears were beyond terrible. Mechanically the car has been sound. Had one software failure, had the brakes redone, and the oil pan gasket replaced. The 2.7 L V-6 is a good yet sophisticated engine and you should use a good synthetic oil in this engine to prevent any issues.
Great Car
I've had this car for 4 years now and not one problem. More importantly I live in Colorado and spend a lot of time in the mountains. This car just flat ass gets up the mountain. This particular model has the turbo engine and after 43,000 it still beats a lexus up the mountain. By far this is the best car I have ever owned. I was thinking about getting a 300M, but I think I'm just going to get a 2003 Concorde, if they havent mess with it too much.
YEA BABEH!!
I went to the dealership,to buy my lease vehicle, which was an earlier Concorde. I saw the 1998 and just, well fell in love with it. It drives GREAT!!! Its roomie and being 6'2", I needed the room. It drives great, handles well. Oh, did I mention the ladies love it......YEA BABEH!!
Great Car!
This was a great car for the money. It looks sleek and rides very comfortably. I am not sure why it is no longer in production but when it comes back, it will be a winner and I would probably purchase another.
Great Full-Size Value!
The car is a great value for the money. Mildly fun to drive and very well built, Extremely good gas mileage I got 27 MPG on the 3.2L V6. Never had a single problem with it!
Excellent
Excellent. This is the best auto i ever owned for comfort, ride, looks and mileage. This car is in excellent shape for an 8 year plus vehicle.
