Excellent upgrade to the original

mmalc, 10/23/2015
2016 Chevrolet Volt LT 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid DD)

This is simply an excellent vehicle. For most people it should yield sufficient EV range that they'll never need to use the gas engine; for the remainder the occasional dip into the gas tank will get them wherever they need to go in comfort. For those who own one of the originals, the extra range will help to reduce that odd range anxiety that you get when even though you know you could go anywhere you'd still rather not use gas. And the car is better, I think, in almost every way, than an already impressive forebear. Better visibility, more ergonomic, more powerful. And the "maximum regen" paddle on the back of the steering wheel a useful addition to avoid wondering exactly how hard to brake before engaging the discs. The only area of significant criticism is the iPod integration. For some reason it's proving to be at best erratic. But overall a minor niggle in the enjoyment, and the CarPlay feature is excellent. The only wish is that GM had included a 6.6kW charger, but

7yrs 80K Miles - Great Car

RayR NY, 05/13/2016

2016 Chevrolet Volt Premier 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid DD)

Updated Review 11-18-22: Almost 80k miles. No problems. None. Very happy with this car. I hope whatever technology GM uses in their current lineup is just as good. I honestly wasn't expecting the car to be this good coming from a Toyota Prius. It's a great car. Updated Review 11-18-19: It's been 4 years now and 52K miles. This is a great car. No problems. Hardly any upkeep expense. Oil changes few and far in between due to the engine hardly running. I filled up February 2019 and November 2019. Very few of my trips require the engine. The cold causes the engine to start. I could change the settings so it won't start until 15 degrees instead of 32, but I feel my comfort is more important. Why GM never advertised this car like Honda advertised its Clarity, is beyond me. I see many Clairties on the road and few Volts. The Volt is now discontinued, but I feel I'm one of the lucky ones to have this car. Big mistake GM. You really dropped the ball. Updated Review: It's been a year and a half now. Almost 18K miles. Still loving my Volt. I just had an issue with the check engine light going on, but it was a short and was repaired. OnStar was helpful. The light went on, I received a text to have my battery serviced within 1 day, so I hit the OnStar button. They read me a code and connected me with my dealer. The dealer told me the code had something to do with the HVAC system and made me an appointment to bring it in. This was all done within 5 minutes. The technology is very advanced, but yet simple. I have had some issues with some rattles in the cabin. I had to take some time and find the areas and put some dampening material in place to end the plastic on plastic rattles. For the price, GM could have put a little more into the build quality of the interior. All has been taken care of and I'm happy. I still highly recommend this car. Updated Review: 2.5yrs 32K miles: Very happy. I very rarely use the gas engine. My round-trip commute allows me to stay in EV mode every day. I have an L2 charging station in my garage which charges to completion in 2.5 hrs when I get home, so if I have somewhere to go I have a full charge or close to it depending on how long I'm home for. It really doesn't matter because I do have the ICE to back me up. I can't say anything enough what a great car this turned out to be. It's comfortable, dependable and drives well. 30,141 EV miles 1,612 ICE miles. Original Post: If your daily commute is less than 50 miles, you won't need gas. 6 months and I still have the same tank that came with the car. Rear seat is tight but good for 2. Ride is smooth with excellent steering feel. It feels like a firm, heavy ride. In cold months with the use of the heater the range takes at hit in the 40s but in the warmer months range could be in the 60s - I'm usually achieving the advertised 53 or higher. Using the heated seats, heated steering wheel and climate control on "economy" helps. Fit and finish of the car is upscale and the technology works great. Side view could be better due to wide A pillars, but the side vehicle alert helps to detect other vehicles. The Bose system is beautiful - a little weak when new, but after a few weeks the sound fills out and it's great. There was an intermittent small rattle when I first got the car, but has since settled. Price is on the high side, but when you weigh the advanced technology, gas savings and an additional $7,500 tax credit - it brings the car into range so it's really not that high. All in all I'm enjoying the car very much. I haven't had any mechanical problems and have found the quality to be high above expectations.

Volt and Solar Panels are a great payback

Ray, 07/01/2016
2016 Chevrolet Volt LT 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid DD)

Car handles very nice, fun to drive. No complaints. You can read other reviews for the "car" reviews, I am going to talk about the financial aspects. Last year I bought a 24 panel Solar System that cost $19,000, after a Federal Tax Credit, the net cost was $13,300. I made sure I purchased enough panels to cover my household needs and future plans for an electric car. After 1 year, I confirmed I had sized my system correctly. My monthly electric bill went from $200 to zero. Per plan, I had credit from with PG&E's. So I needed a second car for my teenage sons to drive. Alternate choice would be Honda Civic. Cost for new mid-level Civic $22,000 out the door. Long story, short - kids are driving my 3 old year old car, Dad is driving new Volt. I walked out of the Chevy dealer minus $32,300. I did purchase 220v charge cord and had a 220v receptacle installed in the garage - total cost $900. I will get a Federal Tax rebate of $7500, a state rebate of $1500 and because of I live in the San Joachim Valley, the Air Pollution Control District will give me a rebate of $2000. Net cost of car and charger is $22,200 - about the same as a new Civic. My gas bill should drop $175 per month. Total investment: $13,300 (solar panels) + $200 (premium of Volt over Civic) = $13,500. Monthly savings: $200 (household electric) + $175 (auto gas) = $375. Result: my investment will be paid back in 3 years!

Volt vs Tesla is a no brainer

James S, 06/27/2016

I love the Tesla but the Volt was 1/3 the price and has a backup gas option if you run out of electricity. This is a must when living in a big state like California. Or for me who runs the AC full blast. I've driven the Volt Premier a month a only put in 2 gallons. It's also very quick off the line, especially in Sport mode. Great purchase.

Love the volt

STEVE, 07/18/2016

I grew up driving triumph sports cars and then moved on the Honda Accords. The volt is quicker than a Spitfire and better than a Honda Accord in every way. I can carry my wife, my daughter, my dog and a bicycle without any trouble. I'm averaging over 150 miles per gallon and since I have solar panels the cost of operation is about .02 cents per mile. I drive about 35 miles a day and then when I take the occasional 100 mile trip it uses one gallon of gas. I had a bad back until I bought the volt and now have no problems with long trips etc. I can not think of one thing that I have given up by driving an electric car.

The Best of All Worlds

Drake, 04/13/2016
2016 Chevrolet Volt Premier 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid DD)
15 of 15 people found this review helpful

I've had my eye on the Volts for years - as an idea, it was extremely compelling, but the execution was (for obvious reasons) very 'first generation'. When Chevy refined the design for the second generation I was cautiously optimistic, and I'm happy to say that it has exceeded my every expectation. No, it is not a car for everyone - the technology that makes the Volt work is still costly, so the price is still a bit higher than more traditional vehicles of a similar size. It's also on the smaller side for a sedan, though not at all uncomfortable for my family (my wife and six-month old in his large carseat fit just fine). You can get EV-only vehicles with longer electric range, of course, and while its performance is respectable, you can get more raw power from some other vehicles within its price range. But while other vehicles may outperform in one area or another, there are none that offer quite the same perfect blend or attention to detail that Chevrolet has executed here. The electric range is more than sufficient for the majority of trips, the charging is easy, and the gas generator (which is seamless and very quiet) is not only fuel efficient but gives it fantastic real-world driving range and none of the 'range anxiety' than you'd get with a typical hybrid or gas-powered car. What's more, while it may not be a performance powerhouse, the car accelerates and brakes well, the handling is enjoyable, and the ride is comfortable. You don't always get all of that in these efficiency-first vehicles, so it's very much appreciated. Being a new father, safety is a huge priority for me, and the Volts are safe vehicles - especially with the addition of the Driver Confidence packages, which add sensors for the usual bevy of warning and assist technologies. But beyond that, LEDs and wraparound lighting give it great visibility for other drivers and the headlamps are nice and bright without being obnoxious. I haven't had a chance to see the IntelliBeam automatic high-beams in action yet, but it's a nice touch and will no doubt prove useful provided it works well. Really though, the attention to detail and extra touches to add value are what seal the deal. There are many options to make the remote start and passive lock/unlock system conform to your needs and preferences, which adds a lot of convenience. You can also adjust the charging to help save more money with location and time-based charging preferences, and you can monitor charging status with the OnStar app. Speaking of OnStar, the three years of the top-level plan included free certainly doesn't hurt the value proposition, adding that much more safety, security, and convenience for no cost. On a less practical but no less appreciated note, everything on the car just seems very carefully and attentively designed, from sportier exterior and easy-to-open-and-close hatch to the subtle ambient lighting (with more pronounced lighting available as an option) to the layout of the dash to the quick and responsive touchscreen to the various sounds the car makes in operation (startup, shutdown, electronic brake, etc). It bears mentioning that my dealer's service department, who are always honest and whom I have a very good relationship with, have nothing but positive things to say about the first generation's reliability and longevity, and the second generation looks to improve upon that formula. It's all just very well-put-together, and with the rebates ($9000 off the one I purchased, after government tax credit and before dealer discount) it is an extremely compelling vehicle in every way that the previous model was, and many more ways that the outgoing design wasn't. This is my fourth car and third new car purchase within the past three years, and far and away the best of the pack.

i have wanted an electric vehicle for several years since I installed solar panels that could offset the cost of gasoline and to reduce pollution. I looked at the leaf and even tesla(way too expensive). The other EVs keep you tethered to a charging station for out of town trips. The second gen Chevy Volt finally had the electric range plus the gas engine backup for long distance travel, I needed so I took the plunge. With the tax credit and dealer discounts my fully loaded premier with both safety/confidence packages ended up costing $26,500 before tax and license. This car has the smoothest ride and is the most fun to drive I've ever had. It gets 55 miles on a full electric charge and should go up on warmer weather. I'm also seeing almost 50 mpg on gas but haven't used much yet. The safety packages are worth it and have helped miss several potential accidents. It's very comfortable in the front and I'm 5' 11". The back is comfortable too but tight if you are tall but we usually only have two in the car. Plugging in using the 110 power cord works for me as I don't mind the overnight charging. Using the brake paddle on the steering wheel I can drive mostly with just one pedal. The infotainment and navigation work better than I expected and the touchscreen reminds me of my iPad in how well it responds. Cargo space is decently sized for a compact car. Great design and features at a price that rivals mostly inferior competitors. The quality of the build seems above average and is great entry into the electric car market with no worries about range.

RIP combustion engine

I switched from BMW 328 to this car and never looked back! The concept of a plug-in hybrid car is absolutely a great idea. And Volt 2016 is an excellent implementation of this car category. When it runs on EV mode (for about 40+ miles), you get a fantastic feeling of speed and serenity. When it switches to hybrid, it drives just like ordinary car. My last gasoline fill-up was 1500 miles earlier. I use ordinary 110/120 outlet to charge it. Since my commute does not deplete the battery completely, I get a full overnight charge. But if the battery is completely empty, it takes about 10+ hours to charge on 110/120 volts outlet. I have a higher level trip so the car comes with all sort of electronics. All around sensors and backup camera work perfect. The acceleration is pretty good (but not at Tesla level), however it does give you a good sensation of high electric engine torque. Coming from BMW, this was one of the important selling points for me. I don’t have quality problem so far. I cannot judge this aspect of the car yet. But I assume since the combustion engine rarely kicks in, at least in the engine department, it should be trouble free. My wish list for improving the car includes rear window wipers, better visibility through A pillar (a major design oversight) and electric seat adjustment.

I'm 47 years old and this is my 77th car! Crazy!

David Marks, 12/24/2015

Yes. The title of the review is true. I'm 47 years old and I have had 77 cars. My wife thinks I'm crazy but I just love cars. I usually buy cars with great resale value and have been able to finance at very low rates over the last 10 years. Usually after a few years I owe less than what the car is worth so I can easily get a new car and keep my payment the same. I have had a ton of Hondas and Acuras over the years an I worked for Acura for a few years so I have been biased towards those brands. Mazda and Nissan are also very high on my preference list. I owned domestic vehicles back in the 80's( Mainly GM products) Actually never owned a domestic vehicle that was not GM. From 1990 to 2015 I drove mostly Japanese import cars. They were reliable , they had good resale and they got good gas mileage. Well about a month ago that all changed and I bought a 2016 newly designed Chevy Volt. I am one of the first people in our area to drive one and I think I am one of the first to write a review. This is actually the first review I have ever written but I am extremely excited about the car and I wanted to send this in. I bought the LT model with leather and heated seats. After the $7500 tax rebate my car payment is about the same as the car I traded in( 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek) My payment is about $390 a month or $13 a day. I used to spend about $8 a day on gas($2400 year) Since I got the Volt I have spent less than $30 on gas. It only costs $15 to fill it up too. I think I am going to save $200 a month on gas plus the annoyance of just going to the gas station. So yes, the car is very economical but that is just the beginning. The car is really fast compared to cars I have had before.( No, not as fast as the Tesla which I drove as well) Zero to 60 is impressive with the Volt but zero to 30 is even more impressive. The car is so much fun to drive and handles beautifully. It is definitely the quietest cat I ever had. I snore louder than this car. The Volt is super sharp too but not snobby. It is a fresh design inside and out and has every option you can ever want. I love Hondas because of their ergonomics but the Chevy Volt was built to fit the likes of the driver. Some cars are just built and then you must adjust to the car. The Volt feels right from the very first mile. I love driving the Volt and actually look for reasons to go out and drive it. I have not had a car that felt cool in a while. I did not think you could be cool and practical at the same time. I think GM has a real winner with this car and I was even thinking of investing in GM stock. A good friend of mine always would poke fun of me for not driving a car made in america. I called him the other day to tell him that I was driving a 2016 Chevy Volt and he was excited for me and a little envious. He wanted to buy one to but has a minivan instead because he has a big family. Ok I know it has only been a month or so but I am beyond impressed and I am looking forward to keeping this car for a while. I love the fact that I hardly ever need to put gas in the car and I also love the fact that I do not have range anxiety like on other plug in cars. After the first 50 or so miles the gas engine kicks in and I can go over 350 more miles. A lot of my friends thought I would get to 100 cars by the time I am 70. I think the Chevy Volt might put the breaks on all my car buying. It will be hard to find a comparable replacement .

The new Volt is improved in virtually all aspects over a car that was the best small hybrid to start with. Longer EV range, bigger charger, more powerful, quieter, better handling. Nearly all the quirks of the our 2013 Volt were improved on. The 2016 is a 100% new car. I would argue it's the world's finest "green" car at any price. I simply can't think of another green car with the right balance of price, features, performance, cargo, etc. Update: We liked our first two Volts so much, we now have 3. We added a 2017 with all the advanced safety features and Adaptive Cruise Control. Everybody loves it.

A car you find reasons to drive

Purchased the car January 2, 2016. I had researched and driven every make and model that came close to 30 miles per gallon freeway and during this I found the 2016 Chevrolet volt was being delivered to dealers soon. I called dealerships within a three hundred mile radius and when the first one was delivered I rushed down state and test drove the volt. To say I was instantly impressed would be an understatement. This car is so well engineered and performance and economy were so outstanding that I instantly ordered a silver LT with comfort package and bose sound. I have 13000 miles on the car now and not a single issue. Charge overnight on 110 (solar equipped residence) and cost to drive is next to nothing. Was previously spending $300 a month on gas. Remember when you first got your license and you used to find reasons to go to the store just so you could drive? This car produces the same emotional response. A little sappy, I know, but WOW. GM has designed a wonderful combination of efficiency, technology and performance. Its now February 2017. Have owned the volt for a year. 22,000 plus miles on the odometer. Not a single problem or issue. Still quiet, powerful and an immense pleasure to drive. About 89% of total driving has been all electric. Its now February 2018. Have owned the volt for two years. 33,000 miles on odometer. Still efficient, quiet, powerful. Not a single issue. Still finding "reasons" to drive the car it is such a pleasure. Typically fill up about 9 gallons of gas about every four months. Yay. It is now August 2019. 52,000 miles on odometer. Only issue so far is the 12 volt "regular" car battery needed replacement, Still efficient, quiet, powerful. No loss of driving range on the lithium battery. Still fill up about 9 gallons of gas every four months when driving local. Have also driven to las vegas and san diego numerous times, love not having to worry about charging stations getting in the way. When on gasoline, getting 42 miles per gallon.

REAL WORLD REVIEW FOR 42,000 MILES

2016 Chevrolet Volt Premier 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid DD)

My wife and I purchased our new 2016 Volt Premier in July 2016. We now have over 42,000 miles and nearly 14,000 miles just on gasoline when in hybrid mode, which is referred to as charge sustaining mode. Overall mpg just on gasoline since new has been 48.16 mpg, overall with electric and gas combined is nearly 148 mpg. With a full electric charge in summer range is 60+ miles, in winter 40+ miles. A full electric charge is $1.84 worth of electricity. My wife and I recently went on vacation down the Oregon Coast via Highway 101 to northern California. We left our home with just one full charge of electricity, and never charged during the entire trip. Total trip 775.9 miles, 78.4 on electricity from that one full charge, 53.4 mpg for miles traveled just on gas not counting the 78.4 miles on electricity of course. MPG on gas is calculated by miles driven on gas and gas consumed, not by the gauge that read for the trip 52.5 mpg. Our Volt was fully loaded with the 2 of us and the vehicle weight per Oregon Dept. of Transportation vehicle scale was 4,150 lbs. For comparison we also have a 2010 Prius. The mpg on the Prius is nearly comparable to the mpg on our Volt when operating just on gasoline. Comfort for front passengers is fine, however not for a normal size adult for an extended period of time. The hatchback design gives you plenty of room for my wife and I to pack and still have room left over for anything we wish to take back with us. The Volt runs on 100% electric the gas motor will not start to give you additional propulsion power, which will happen with the Prius Prime, Hyundai Ioniq plug in hybrid, and Honda Clarity, when you operate those vehicles for maximum power. We like our Volt enough to purchase another when the time comes Update on 01/12/2019: Approaching 54,000 miles. nearly 17,000 miles of that just on gas, regular 87 octane at that. Overall mpg from new just on gas, is nearly 49 mpg. Recent trips this January, 135 miles avg, mpg just on gas has been 52 mpg, and 50 miles on a charge, remember this is winter here in Northwestern Oregon on the Coast not condusive for range and mpg's on gas. Summer driving range is usually well over 55 to even over 60 + miles on a charge, and mpg just on gas, 55+mpg on those same trips which is better than our 2010 Prius at times. So, our 16 Volt still going strong on the original factory tires, Michelin Energy Saver AS, 0 w 20 Mobil One synthetic motor oil in the engine crankcase

Likes-I like driving my car. Its pretty quiet inside except on freeways. Gas Engine is quiet. Performed well on road trip through the Sierras. Climbing hills is a breeze and coming down charges the battery. The entertainment system works good. After two years, no problems and the best car I have ever owned. Great for my 20 mile commute and with gas backup, I never worry about running out of battery power. Hopefully, I can keep for a long time.

This is the car you want if you don't like to pay for gas yet you don't want to be completely dependent on electricity. I have only gone to the gas station once since I purchased the Chevy Volt. Since my last fill-up of gas I am at 250 mpg. My mpg since I got the car sits at 140 mpg. This is an extremely sporty car compared to the Prius. There is a lack of space in the rear seats but is surprisingly roomy in the front and has a decent amount of trunk space. You will be amazed at the amount of power/acceleration this EV has!! The best part of this car is the cost. With the Federal and State rebates, the hit to the pocket book is minimal.

Upgrades from 2013 to 2016 model. Ride is even better as is handling. Not wild about the new display software and I hope to get used to it. The Massachusetts incentive ($2500) makes it a very attractive buy/lease.

This is a surprisingly well-made car. Quiet, smooth ride...with a comfortable drivers position. Rear seats are tight but comfortable. I have been exceeding 50 miles on a charge since taking delivery about 6 weeks ago, and have only used about 3 gallons of gas in my first 1000 miles. Lots of low-end torque ...this car really moves out from a stoplight. All the latest active safety features are available if you get the Premier version. You owe it to yourself to give this one a look if you're in the market for a compact, near-luxury vehicle. Price paid in this review is before the $7500 Federal tax credit.

I have had the car for 3 months and I'm really happy with it, when the weather is cold I preheat the car and is very comfortable and the heat on the steering wheel is a plus. It has great acceleration. I do plug the car every other day since one charge is enough for me to commute to work 20 miles per day.

Quite & fun car to drive but needs improve in intr

Performance of how quickly it accelerates, how well it handles turns and how quite the ride are consistent with the reviews of others. I especially like the adaptive cruise control that comes with 2017; this feature along with lane assist feature may not work perfectly all the time but comes handy in highly congested traffic and if I ever doze off while driving. Four things that I wish Chevy Volt had to make it a nearly perfect car are : 1) have option of moon roof 2) home link 3) have handle above the window for passenger to hold onto 4) front camera view to inform how close my front bump is.

2 weeks so far, Car is awesome. EV mode power is great, never felt the EV mode. It's as good as normal gas engine car. Exterior and interior designs are fantastic. Love Apply car play and Andriod auto integration, it just seemless. Few -ves : 1. Rear visibility is not great, the trunk design blocks for better visibility. 2. Rear middle seat if ok for Kids, but big kids finds it difficult to get in and out. Also you wont have option to move door to door, as the center block is on your way

Review of the 2016 Volt LT

Before you buy this car you should know that you are buying a plug in hybrid. This is different from most hybrid designs. This car's electric batteries can be recharged to give you (depending on how you drive) over 50 miles of range. This is what attracted me to this car - a relatively long range electric car with a ICE to back it up. If you're going for short (up to 25 miles) commuter trips everyday, then you may never use gas again. I found that I use the batteries when I'm in stop and go traffic and the ICE when I'm on the highway. The car gets excellent (42mpg) using the ICE on the highway where the engine is most efficient and the batteries are the least. The ability to switch to the most efficient mode is a big plus for me. The car looks great! An update - After over 2 years of ownership, I'm still in love with this car. I've looked at the Honda Clarity and this is a better car for my needs. The back seat is small but 95% I don't use it. The hatchback design is superior to a sedan's trunk because of usable space. The hatchback gives more vertical space for the entire length of the trunk. The regenerative braking is simpler and more aggressive in the Volt. This car is perfect for my needs. You may find different.

UPDATE: Our volt is a LEMON. We have had electrical problems starting at 6 months. Average time between electrical issues is about 10 months. Hiring an a Lemon Attorney. Both my wife and I are afraid to drive this car after two incidents on the freeways. When it runs, it runs good but not for long. OLD OPINION Do not expect a great deal on prices as you will not get it. Do not expect to achieve the electric engine mileage advertised as this mileage was calculated at the 45-50 mph driving and probably on a level road. After charging to a full charge, you probably will see 44 to 48 electric miles available in lieu of the 50+ advertised. The charge time on an empty electric battery is too much time....10 hours or so and for the price of this vehicle, one would think GM would sell the 240 charging setup but they do not. Overall, despite all this, we like the car as most of our driving is within the 50 mile range of home. To date, we have about 24,000 miles on the car and still fill the tank about once a month. If you buy, do not forget your electric auto tax rebates as it brings down the price to a more reasonable price. If you drive mostly close to home, this is the right car. If you drive well beyond the local home area, the Prius is probably a better deal. I have a 240 charger in the garage and the original in the trunk compartment but feel guilty if at someone's home and ask if I can charge my car. The auto industry needs to figure out to recharge faster on the 120 charger without all the battery heat. If Tesla can do it, all should be able to do it.

Green and stylish commuter PHEV car

I have owned my Volt (LT trim with leather) for two months and love it. The styling is modern and sleek. You can't be any quieter. Acceleration is good, way better than competition (Prius Prime). Like the regen braking with paddle option. Handling is good, sticks to the ground, very little body roll. I have no range anxiety as I have gas backup that can go another 350 miles. Love having the HOV lane sticker to zoom past traffic. The CA rebates and federal tax credits adding to almost $10K made this a no-brainer. My main complaints are: 1) Low to ground: sometimes I scrape bottom of car if going off a curb ramp or over speed bump too fast, 2) Rear visibility not so good with small rear window and big rear corner pillars, 3) smaller rear seat with middle hump, OK for small adults and kids, 4) Trunk storage is a little small. Overall, despite the small complaints, I love the car and feel I made the right decision given my daily commute (35 miles each way) compared to other plug-in electric cars like Prius Prime and Nissan Leaf. Update: Driven the car 13k miles and everything still going great saving gas. Had first oil change at 10k. Only thing is Android Auto sometimes refuses to connect when plugging in my smartphone to the USB and connecting Bluetooth. Update 6/30/18: Over 25K miles now and everything still driving well. Got 2nd included oil change and tire rotation service at 20K. There was one warranty repair needed where the shifter assembly got replaced because car didn't recognize park position and wouldn't turn off. That was annoying as I had to shift back and forth many times before being able to turn off the car finally. Overall, still very happy with car. Update 1/1/2018: Crossed the bumper warranty expiration mileage and still very happy with the car. Still drives great and quiet, and with similar electric range of about 57 miles. Only concern is GM's announcement of no longer making Volt as of March 2019. I hope that spare parts and repair expertise availability will not be an issue in near future. Update 1/1/2020: Car still drives great. No major issues. I notice my electric range has declined from 57-60 miles when I first bought car to currently 50-53 miles. It still meets my need for my 35 mile commute. Only major change was new tires at 45000 miles, still need to rotate them every 7500 miles. GM has discontinued making new Volts, so I still have concern if any negative impact at dealer on spare parts or support. So far none seen. Update 1/6/2021: Car still drives great. Battery range has decreased over time down to about 45~50 miles per full charge, which is expected. In March 2020, replaced 12V battery and shifter assembly or 2nd time due to "Shift to park" message, common issue repair covered under Voltec warranty. Completed one RECALL service GM# N192273600, Emissions pipe may rub against A/C hose connector, replaced emissions pipe as it was too worn. Overall, still very happy with car and fun to drive. Dealer support is still good so far, despite Volt being discontinued. Update 7/7/2021: At 75K miles, still running well. Getting about 45-50mi per charge. Had one recall work completed reprogramming board for increased notice before a battery failure. Support from San Jose Steve's Creek Chevy dealer has been great. Update 1/8/2022: At almost 80K miles, car still drives great. Changed tires to Continental ExtremeContact DWS06, which are awesome all-season traction tires. Electric miles per full charge has reduced to about 40 miles, but worth it for better handling and peace of mind in wet weather driving.

I have been waiting for over a year to buy this car and finally was able to get one on Jan. 9. On Jan. 11 I took it for its first trip to work and it still has not made it home from the service dept. Then engine light is on, it does not use the battery power at all, and the engine idles extremely fast. The service dept has been in touch with the main engineers of GM who told them mine is one of 7 cars with this issue and they don't know what it is or how to fix it. I called GM's main customer service dept and the guy I talked to extended his sympathy and said he would get back to me by Jan. 18. I am sick about this. I paid $42K to drive this out of the lot. I don't know I can do. This is only my second new car, the last one was a Scion that still runs great. If anyone can advise on how to get this resolved I would appreciate it. Talk about buyer's remorse. Update 2/5/15. I was in daily contact with Chevy customer service while they were trying to figure out what was wrong with the car. They sent a team of engineers from Detroit to the dealer on two separate occasions. They could not figure out what was wrong with it. On January 29 they authorized a buyback. Today I am signing the final papers and they are refunding the purchase price plus tax and all other fees I paid. They were very speedy in getting this moving as soon as I requested it. Of course they offered to replace with a different Volt but I said I could never feel comfortable in one after this experience. So now I need to figure out what kind of car I do want. LIke I said, I had my eye on this car for over a year and so know nothing about other makes and models. I'm sure they will figure out what was wrong with this car and get it on the road. The dealer did say that Chevy told him there are a handful of other cars in the country with this same problem.

There is no adjustment for lumbar support. I got such a good deal on the car, I convinced myself the seat would be good enough, but with any extended drive I Notice the lack of lumbar support. Also , in the position I am most comfortable, the steering wheel blocks the digital readout for speed, so I have no idea how fast I am going. Visibility is poor in all directions. The ride is smooth and quiet, acceleration is decent, and I love not using gas.I ordered a small inflatable pillow for my back, hope that solves the comfort problem. I take my dog to the beach a lot, so I like having a hatchback and folding the rear seats down.

Volt review after 19,000 miles

Purchased new in July 2016, 2016 Volt Premier. We traded in our 2014 Volt with over 40,000 miles which we purchased in Oct. 2013. Pure electric range right now in summer is 60+ miles, the highest trip just on electric was 77.7 miles from one single charge. We have several thousand miles also just on gas, regular grade 87 octane is all that is required. Overall mpg from voltstats.net ( which monitors miles etc.) is 45.17 mpg from new. Currently summer is high 40's to low 50's mpg just on gas when not using the electric battery or you have run out of electric energy. Overall all combined mpg, (both electric and gas combined) is 149 mpg. What is amazing to me is that the mpg's on gas per EPA is only 42 which is easily obtained sometimes over 10 mpg more. The EPA electric range is 53 which is also easy to exceed. In winter, Northwest coast of Oregon climate, electric range is about 45 miles and gas only mpg's is still mid 40's to high 40's which is close to what my 2010 prius obtains in mpg's in the same time of year. If you can get a base model LT for $28,000 or so with the $7,500 Fed Tax Credit you have a lot of technology for the price and 3 motors, 2 electric and one a 1.5 direct injection gasoline fuel efficient engine. The Volt for the price of a Civic or Corolla hard to resist.....

Ive had the car for about two weeks now. Its a 2016 volt premier with 38K miles. The car is fun to drive, however getting in and out of the front seats are a pain. You inevitably hit the bottom of the door and scuff up the panel. The climate control took a little getting use to. The car was built/shipped in 2015 and never got the Android Auto update, so it only has Apple Car play, and to get the Android Auto app, dealerships in my area are charging about $120 for the software upgrade. Also the navigation is turn by turn directions through Onstar. It doesn't have a true Navigation system, at least mine doesn't because I have seen other Volts have this feature. Other than that, I love this car, it saving me a ton of money on gas. My old car was a 2014 Ford Escape and spent almost $400 a month on gas, which sounds insane, until you drive an hour everyday and actually tally up the receipts. I have gassed up once since I've bought the car and it cost me $15. I charge at work and at home, so it will be interesting to see how much my monthly electric bill will go up. The back seats are cramped, even for me and I am 5'8 and forget putting rear facing seats in their especially behind a person sitting in the front.

For the cost of the car i was expecting a lot more.. So far i have owned it a few months, in that time i am at 26 times to the dealership.. It is constantly broken.. MPG in the winter is terrible.. I average 23mpg city, and about 30mpg highway.. the 1999 Sienna i owned was getting a little less, but it was also much bigger, and had 379K miles on it.. (18City 28Hwy).. The constantly broken issue is about on par for GM though, i was expecting post bail-out that they had gotten there things together.. no such luck.. The resale value is terrible, lost over 4K bucks in 3 months of ownership.. Cost to fill it is cheap, but charging it in the dead of winter is about the same as getting 23miles per 5 bucks.. which is worse than when gas was at it's highest price.. now that it's still cheap.. i feel ripped off.. The dealerships are good, mostly.. But the GM support of issues makes me cringe.. I would sell it, but i would take a bath and it has next to no miles on it.. Climate control is better than on the previous generation, however they still haven't fixed the main issue, which was with heat on in the winter say goodbye to range.. Good: It's quick off the line, like rocket quick.. low end torque and no noise is fun,.. The radio is fantastic, sounds like the old custom stereo's of the 90s seats are very comfortable Thinking... Bad: They use the cheapest strut mounts on the planet.. (They rattle) The heat is expensive The car is expensive for the MPG you actually get.. (Good warm climate car) Reliability is horrific.. GM support is worthless, what's the point of a warranty.. I have driven every other GM product as a loaner car, (the Volt is the nicest.. scary) The resale value is so bad, you are better off pushing it off a cliff.. It has zero nuts when you want to pass someone on the highway.. (1969 Beetle slow) The steering has issues on the previous version, and that makes me nervous.. (Like disconnecting, no way to turn issues) The electronic parking sensors beep when something is 20ft away but you can back the car into the wall in your garage and the sensors will never beep.. The stock tires are horrible in snow/rain.. and running non-eco tires will get you worse MPG. No Key fob issues, leaving you stranded places is a constant issue. (GM claims it's due to electrical wires.. Hmm isn't this thing electric)

Never ending issues since I purchased brand new. After about a year, three times the car wouldn't start, then finally the dealer changed the battery & it was fine for a while. Lately, about every 2-3 months, the check engine line comes on and I get a diagnostics message that there's something wrong with the emissions system & to get it serviced within a day. Otherwise the car is a lot of fun to drive. Reliability completely sucks - such a time sink, spending so much time taking it to the dealer (while not being given a rental, even though every single time it was covered under warranty) and Chevy doesn't seem to be able to resolve what's wrong with it! I do not recommend, and wish I should have just stuck to a Honda! Oh also a few times I took it in, they told me there was a recall, but I was never notified of the recalls.

loved how olid and quiet and smooth this felt on smooth road at dealer and bough it. but when you hit bumps the cars bottom weight makes it JOLT. rear passengers hit their heads on the slanted door opening getting in or out and heads touch ceiling which is at upholstery and glass window of hatchback. the car is fun driven alone when you can twist and turn around corners blithely, or accelerate like a race car. only getting 34 mpg. supposed to be 42 (no i dont always race around. im a very cautious normal driver. the paddle brake on steering wheel lurches and gives motion sickness. its too touchy. cant apply it gently. interiors electronic lights hard to understand, hard to tell if car on or off.

We live in southern California and plug-in electric cars get to use the HOV (car pool) lane even if they are the sole occupant. I drove the Volt twice and my wife drove it twice. Overall I was impressed with the technology and the electric range. But we just could not get over how cramped it felt, especially in the back seat. Just didn't feel safe with your head being just inches from the side window. I am not a Prius fan but I will say that Chevy could learn a thing or two about packaging by looking at the Prius. If this car was bigger and had more room, we likely would have bought it. Seems like Chevy was fixated on giving it a big electric range at the cost of interior space. I would have gladly traded 5-10 miles of range for a car that was bigger.

The only other car I have owned was a Ford Escape (compact SUV). Although I am sad about how little I can pack into my car (moving is going to be tough) and I feel bad for any passengers who are 6' tall or taller (there isn't much head room), I still am really happy with the change. The car rides amazing and I absolutely love that I am not buying gas. I charge it over night for it to get 46 all electric miles, the blind spot monitors and parking assist are pretty nice. Since it is a 2016 I don't get the fancy cruise control found in the 2017, or the half charge time (found in the 2019). But still, I really love this car.

I like everything about this car except visibility out the back and it's not all wheel drive. The plug in feature is why I bought it. I hope to own it until Lexus comes out with a plug in.

I bought our 2016 Volt LT used with 42K miles on the odometer. I've heard from other's reviews a few things that I'd like to disagree with: 1) driver's seat comfort. I think the negative reviews are comparing Apple's to Oranges. The Volt is the economy choice over BMW's I3 or a Tesla. I wasn't expecting 6 way electric power seats. Still, both front seats are more comfortable to me than my $1,900.00 Lazy Boy recliner. Side note, I am 5'9" and 220 pounds with back problems. I like the seats. 2) blind spots, Volt is a hatchback. I have owned other hatchback cars, they all have blind spots. When I want to make a lane change, I look over my shoulder before I use the turn signal and before I change lanes. + there's a really nice backup camera for the rear view. 3) trunk capacity, again, it's a hatchback. With the seats down, there's just over 5 feet of storage space available. With the hatch open it's like having a small pickup. What exactly do the complainers want out of a small car? Volt has more room inside than some comparable midsize sedans. 4) heating performance, I live in Phoenix Arizona, so most of the time I don't notice. However, I take several long trips every year. When in colder climates I've noticed that I have to set the temperature control several degrees higher than the desired result to get the best heater performance. This is something that I can get used to. Still the Volt warms up faster in colder climates than my other vehicles that are heated by the engine coolant. 5) can't see the speedometer, that's just silly. Both the seat and the steering wheel have up/down adjustments. Somebody needs to download the Owners Manual and read it... 6) low ground clearance, I understood this before we purchased. That and the under body paneling are to improve mileage. We have had our Volt for 9 months and over 16K miles. The gasoline engine's oil % counter still has 36% to go before it needs service. We are saving $100.00 or more each month on fuel in comparison to our other vehicles. If I am on one of my previously mentioned long trips, that jumps to over $200.00/month. Enjoyable to drive, enjoyable to own. When we are ready for our next vehicle purchase, we have already agreed to get a Volt Premiere. I did hear about one legitimate complaint about the Volt. This one comes from Dealerships and Service providers. "There's no service profit in the Volt. People get in their little electric cars and they never come back."

Bought a used 2016 Volt PREMIER last November. First 4000 miles have been great! I intentionally looked for one with around 100K miles because I figure it has been driven and the charging system benefits, and the price would be good too. Remember that with the Volt the electric motor is the propulsion, the back-up "range extender" acts as generator so you can go pretty far on one tank of gas. (My Volt charges to about 45 miles electric, but I hear that goes up in the summertime, and I get about 300 miles more off the gas motor.) Also, for my commute I don't even need the gas motor, but I use it a little bit each day, because a technician told me that is good for the car. Anyway, this is what I call the "poor man's" Tesla. It really takes off (0-60mph in 8.4 sec.), it is fun to drive, way better than the three Prius' I have owned! The Premier has all the bells and whistles including advanced safety package that is amazing. I like the interior with EVERY leather seat being heated and the heated steering wheel and some nice lighting effects. If you love stats you will love keeping track of all the stuff. Currently I am getting 125mpg combined after the first 3,300 miles. I also like the sound system and the Sirius XM, it has OnStar too, but I haven't bothered to connect that. The only thing I would prefer is a little higher clearance and sitting, but I'm 64, so that might come with being a little older :).

I just transitioned from a very large crew cab Ford F250 running on 35's and a diesel engine into this little Chevy car. I can't get over how much I love this thing, which surprised me. It's not slow, the initial torque is big and smooth. The main thing is how little fuel I use. Outside of really long trips, I'm able to plug this thing at work and home and utilize only the battery for all my commutes. I like not having to worry about range anxiety because of this design, and when the gas engine is running, I'm getting over 40mpg. The cool part is that the transition from full electric to gas and electric is unnoticeable outside of the graphics on the dash. I bought the Premier version which I am glad I did for the leather and upgraded features. Chevy should have kept making this car, it is the best of both worlds (electric vs gas).

This has everything that the Prius prime was missing. It’s a wonderful car that allows the eco driver a lot of flexibility in how they drive it without compromising its purpose…to be an eco friendly alternative. Chevy did right with this one. However, a couple years later, the infotainment system went quiet, taking with it the bluetooth and the radio. It's a common problem but I am still working on the solution. Be aware that the vehicle is great, but no longer in production and so, may be less familiar to some.

Very complex car sometime even the mechanic doesn't know how to replace or fix it. Already spent 6500 on maintenance. I do not recommend chevy volt to anyone. Customer support is very poor. Warranty issues very poor. I will never buy domestic car again after such a bad experience with the vehicle.

I took the Chevy Volt for a test drive with my daughter, after my son had raved about his test drive. I've driven 3 Toyota hybrids for the past 13 years so admittedly I have a bias toward Toyotas. (Two Prius cars and one Camry hybrid.) I love the idea of the plug-in. I love that you can smoothly go back and forth between electric and gas. Snazzy blue color, cool instrument panel, great sound and climate control systems. However I have never driven a car with worse blind spots. The side views-- forget it. Twice I almost plowed into passing cars because I simply-- could not-- see them in the side view mirrors. The rear view is also blocked. Even the front was hard to see out of! I felt like I was driving half-blind. The car is far less comfortable than any of my Toyotas, and a Prius isn't exactly a luxury drive to begin with. Back seats are cramped-- the middle back seat is just a joke. Maybe you could use it to hold a few books or a single bag of groceries. Turning off the car I honestly couldn't tell if it was still on or off. And the "low fuel" warning had me just terrified. I don't know if my dealer was being stingy or if we were going through the electric charge in some major way, I'm not surprised they have the optional technology to tell you if you're about to hit something on the side or in front of you. Driving this Volt I felt like Mr. Magoo! Could not wait to climb back into my Camry hybrid!!!

Chevy is apparently discontinuing the Volt now that we have reached the 200,000 HEVs stating that the is no market for a sedan - I hope they reconsider - I hope the government extends the $7500 rebate. My kids all prefer to ride in the Volt - quiet, comfortable, ... The 2016 has an XM radio - rather than Sirius/XM that I am used to. I have no idea what Chevy is thinking limiting channels to 248 and no sports alerts in a modern car - very old technology. A little hard to see out of the back with the battery causing the rear hatch to be pushed up a bit. Awesome connectivity. Other than the XM radio - almost everything else is a minor annoyance. I have no use for the built in navigation, iphone works better. The maps update that I bought for $99 was a waste of money - I found nothing new where I drive - you would think they would be able to do a bit better at adding speed limits and new roads (apple/wayse maps are up to date for free).

I have had the car for 19 months, in that time frame i have 15065 miles of which 12660 have been electric miles . I am on my 8th gas tank. The economy of the car is fantastic. I have saved a tremendous amount of money and time at the gas station. I have had one oil change which chevy covered. On the downside the car had an issue with the gear shifter, as a result the car would not shut off. This was replaced under warranty. I have had a continuous issue with apple CarPlay in which it thinks I'm talking on the phone. As a result the volume is muted. I am not able to here music or make calls including on- star. I have to shut the car and wait minutes before it clears it self. ??????personal issue for me. I have been told by passengers sitting in the rear seat that getting in and out is not comfortable due to the head room in the rear compartment . In terms of the interior quality I find it to be OK. It's not nor is it meant to be the quality of the BMW or Lexus however it works for me. I did get the leather upgrade, i'm very happy that I did. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase( I leased this car) It handles well and is comfortable to drive. I would recommend this car to those that are seeking economic satisfaction . The car is a great value when you consider what A Tesla will cost you. I am considering purchasing the car at the end of the lease. Catch me later to see what I do.

Re-Volting Interior - Orange/Black

You CANNOT buy the integrated screen navigation system on the LT version! NOT available at any price. But you can get the integrated NAV with the Premier version. UNFORTUNATELY, the Premier version is only offered in two interior color options -- totally black or combined black and orange (they call it brandy but it's orange -- look at the Volt website -- and that is what the dealer salesman called it "Let's face it, it's really orange."). WHY would the Premier version offer only two interior color options and yet the less expensive LT version (w/ no Nav touch screen system available) offers a wide variety of interior colors in cloth or leather? The more expensive Premier version interior options are MORE restricted than the options available on the less expensive LT options -- go figure! Question 1: So what is wrong with black interior? Answer: The black interior gets really hot in summer and not everyone wants black. Question 2: What's wrong with the black and orange interior? Answer: Look at this ridiculous color combination. It's so ridiculous that you will have a hard time finding a display model with this orange/black interior -- it appears that GM / Chevy wants to force you to get black interior by making it the only solid color option. A shame that GM thinks it's fine to offer the Premier version with fewer options than those available on the stripped down LT version of the Volt.

Purchased the 2016 Volt LT in January 2016 - it’s been fun to drive and my average gas consumption is 1.4 l/100km or 202 mpg at 136,000 km or 85,000 miles driven. I’m year one and two twice some electronic issues. Since then only AC pressure sensors and AC under warranty. It’s the perfect commuter car up to say 50-70 miles per day. But don’t worry about long drives either - you get about 375 miles fully charged and full tank of gas. The trunk is very spacious and with fold down seats a lot fits! Only drawback - rear seats for two people and rather low, so not a family car. There still is no other car like it.

I absolutely love my Chevy Volt, it does everything thing I need very well. For my commuting needs, and driving 80 miles an hour it consistently would go 40 miles in the summer and 38 in the winter on electric only. Great get up and go, and so easy to drive. Comfortable and great Bose sound system. Such a great car, too bad Chevy did such a bad job of marketing such an advanced vehicle.
