2013 Volt is a Geek Dream

This car is a great car to drive. I have owned the car for 12 months and have used about 12 gallons of gas! I am currently getting about 550MPG. If you dive less than 35 miles per day on average then you can get significantly higher gas mileage than what is published. The car normally runs on electricity until the batteries run low and then automatically switches to a gas powered generator to power the electric motor. The battery will typically give you between 30-40 miles per charge depending on driving habits and outdoor temperature. My average commute per day is about 27 miles. My car is running on battery 95% of the time and uses gas 5% of the time. My favorite car that I have owned.

2013 Volt - Nice Small Csr

I like big cars, fast stuff, and trucks. So I'm jaded. First off, all the reviews that say the Volt is ugly are lame. It has yet to make any small children cry or make the cow's milk sour. It looks good. The interior is nice, and well appointed. Navigation is in the speedo area where it belongs. Rear seating is for kids. A 6 foot man will hit his head and knees, but will fit. Handling is tight. Feels nice. I have a Vette and a CTS-V, and race alot. Car feels lighter than it is. Acceleration is OK. I'm used to big power, but it is as quick from a light as a Crown Vic. Not bad. Braking is excellent considering the tire size and weight. Use L in city driving.

2013 Volt

Traded in a C5 Vette for a 2013 red metallic Volt. Have driven about 400 miles in 10 days. Love the car - used 0.7 gal. Gas. Chevy had a $2,000 rebate, coupled with a $7,500 Fed tax rebate and a $2,000 state tax rebate, takes the cost down to $30,000. Factor in about $2,000 fuel savings per year, and the car makes economic sense. Build quality is excellent, as is integration of car operation, electronics and screen displays. Also right thing to do for the environment to cut emissions. With our local electric rates, cost per gas gal equivalent is about $0.70. Car is smooth and provides a pleasant driving experience, plus you are driving the future, not the past.

As a volt owner coming off many years of high quality Infiniti vehicles I had a lot of doubt about quality. But after a year of ownership I could not be happier. Nothing gone wrong, nothing with this car. Ride is great, been to a gas station 3 times in a year. 91% of my driving is electric. Charging at night and at work, I am saving a TON of money, driving green, and sending a high finger to OPEC. I'm hoping others realize that still today, ONLY the Volt gives you the unlimited range in a basically electric vehicle. Most people still dont know how it works and think the range is limited. I tell them I can drive across the U.S. and still get 40 mpg! I'm buying american and proud!

6 months in with the Volt

6000 miles and I love the car. Have driven it from February and temps under 20 degrees F to August and temps over 100 degrees F. Full charge shows 44-45 miles available on electric, but I rarely go over 30 miles. Hold mode is great for 2013, as it adds the ability to drive to the highway on electric, then switch to hold mode to maintain the charge and get upwards of 50+ mpg with the gas generator running, then switch back to electric when you get off the highway. Sport mode is fun, and I leave it in L all the time, even on the highway, to take advantage of the aggressive regen to gain back range. So far I haven't put gas in it in almost 5 months of daily driving.

1) Driving in D utilizes slightly more kW than when driving in L. [upshift into D and see the increase on the battery draw display then shift back to L]. Use D when you want to coast instead of regen braking. 2) Needs separate SPORT MODE button. 3) OnStar needs faster data acquisition and more data viewing options. 30/60/90 day & 6 month mileage display. Yes..many of the cons are relatively minor. Yet, overall, the car functions very well to what the MAIN purpose of the intent was…to be an efficient commuter car. ..a home run in that respect. But when you add in the cons and other notes against the price of the car, I give it a strong triple.

For 40 years I routinely went to gas stations to fill up at least every two weeks. Now I go to the gas station once a year.... I only used 4.2 gallons Last year. The Chevy Volt has proven to be as good as all the awards it has received. I read that 128,000 automotive engineers from around the world SAE have voted the Chevy Volt as the BEST ENGINEERED car on the road today. I agree. The ease of which it transports me to work is like no other vehicle. The effortless acceleration is hard to explain .. I tell people .. turn off your engine and coast... that is what the Volt sounds like going up hill at full throttle! Chevy Volt ... just unbelievable. 38,000 hard city miles ... not a single problem in 5 years.. I see no range drop in the batteries. My Chevy Volt is costing me less than 3 cents per mile for fuel and maintenance.

Expensive leading PHEV w cramped interior

Ground breaking plugin hybrid. Uses engine to extend the range of an otherwise all electric vehicle. Overall drives well. Good acceleration and handling. Comfortable amazingly quiet ride. Can use it all electric for typical commutes. However lots of compromises. Very high price due to dual drive trains. Interior cramped to due low ceiling for reduced drag, 4 passenger seating due to battery in the cabin. Electric range works for shorter trips, but on longer trips seems to simply improve gas mileage which still isn't as good as a Prius. Hoping next rev. will fix these issues.

I picked up the Volt as a daily commuter car. Work is 15 miles from the house, and hilly. During the round trip, I normally use about 2/3 of the battery power. Everything people are posting about how fun the car is to drive is accurate. The thing I didn't know about it, even after the test drive, was how much information is presented to you on the center stack display and the driver information center. I would recommend doing some research before buying the car. You can search for, and download, the two main owners manuals; the basic one and the one for the infotainment system. The other place to look is www.myvolt.com where you can find excellent short videos of usage and systems.

I bought a used 2013 Volt in November '16 and drive it every day for errands, running the kids around, etc. I'm super happy with how it works as far as the electric charging, hybrid engine etc. The way it charges is just as advertised. The time to charge is spot-on for the different amperages. At a full charge it shows a low-30s-mile range on electric in the winter; in summer it's 48-50 miles. When it's cold out (30s and below) it runs the engine for the first few minutes "due to temperature," so it does use a little gas when it's cold out. Also when it's cold I have to run the heater to be comfortable, which decreases the electric range even more. That's no big deal though, just sharing my experiences with cold weather in case anyone's curious. As far as driving it, I test-drove a Prius and a Leaf to compare, and enjoyed driving the Volt the most. The visibility is fine. The pickup is totally sufficient. The switchover from electric to gas is unnoticeable. The only thing that bugs me about this car is the design of the center stack, which has the climate, music, and other controls. I find it to be unnecessarily involved and not intuitive. After 3 months I still have to look kind of closely in order to do what I want, and it seems to take too many button presses to accomplish what I need, which is too bad when you're also driving the car. The only problem I've had with it so far is on one drive, the screen wouldn't turn on (so no climate or music). Looking online, I see this is an occasional problem with the Volt, and can often be solved by turning the car off and on again, though that's the one and only time it has happened to me so far (Edit: after 10 months, this has never happened again). Anyway, in summary, I'd highly recommend the car for someone who wants to use electricity to power their car but also wants the flexibility of having a backup engine, and a compact car. EDIT Aug 2017: We've now owned the car for 10 months. Still love using/driving it. We had to take it in to the shop because of a brake fluid leak, to the tune of $1,600, which was annoying. According to the internet it's something that happens to Volts here and there. I'd owned Hondas for years before the Volt and almost never had to take them in to be repaired. I was expecting/dreading something like this with an American car. Anyway, hopefully we don't get repair bills like this too often. EDIT March 2021: Still loving it. No more repair bills yet.

First of all, the Volt is a blast to drive. As my first GM vehicle in 20 years, I was impressed. I was very happy. Then charge light warning came on and it was back to dealership, then the charge door and again the charge door. The bearing in front driver's side went, had it replaced and then replaced again. A lot of trips to the dealership and missing work. Live in Michigan and charger was plugged into an external outlet.Well with the nasty weather we are having moisture must have got in the connection and fried my charging cord. GM is saying it is 100% fault of plug and will not cover. $475.00 to get new charger. There goes my gas savings and my GM loyalty I am done after this lease.

Just purchased the 2013 fully loaded Volt for my wife. It's a great ride with a very high feel good factor of knowing you are helping be part of the solution to foreign oil dependency. (I'm a Desert Storm Vet) But even more important is that it's a no compromise ride - very responsive drive train and we do not worry about being stranded without a charge. Chevrolet got it right.

I traded my BMW X3 for the Volt. I am thoroughly impressed with the technology and engineering of this vehicle. My wife and I primarily use this for around town driving with the occasional road trip. I love the fact that you will essentially not use any gas in city driving as long as you stay below the 38 mile range - so no C02 or carbon monoxide emissions at all. The car is comfortable (I am 6'3") and very quiet. The standard features are excellent. Chevrolet hit a home run with this car and I love buying American again.

Volt is the answer for a 24K mi/yr commuter

The Volt is an incredibly comfortable, fun and responsive vehicle. Pound-for-pound - $-for-$ - the Volt is the future of drivetrains. I commute 78 mi/day in S.W. Ohio. Hills, weather and road speed affect battery/gas consumption. I avg 39mi/charge. Own a V8 '05 Audi -- the Volt corners and accelerates (in Sport mode) the same, if not better. The ride is extremely quiet. The "connectivity" options are industry leading. The Volt has overcome GM's countless decades of lethargic design, boring ingenuity and laskluster performance. Due to weather, I have 118 miles per/gal after 2016 miles. I love this car. No regrets. In the least, this car is a worth your time to test drive.

Incredibly electronically sophisticated vehicle. Best hybrid/electrical car on the road today. I installed a 240 volt charge station to speed up the recharging process, plus it reduces the cost of each full charge from 13kw used to 10kw. For me in Calif., it costs $1.20 for each full charge. I normally get 43-48 miles on each charge and on gas 41 mpg (light foot on the throttle). Assuming 10k miles/yr and 10% of the miles on gas, the total cost would be about $460/yr or a $2,000/yr savings over our other gas costs for 10k miles/yr. The volt cost $32k after all rebates. Do the math...this car is a no brainer! Update 3/22/17: No problems with the car after four years. Continues to perform flawlessly. I would never buy a non-electric car after my experience with the Volt. The only maintenance costs are rotating the tires each year and changing the oil, although the oil does not need to be changed as often as I do it (annually). I could probably go two years between oil changes, but that just seems to long to me. Update 9/27/18 - no change from previous reviews

So far, the car has been great. It drives so smooth and the instant torque I get from a dead stop is a delight after dealing the turbo lag on my Outback XT for 8 years. The EV range covers my work and weekend commutes so I can go months without having to buy gas. Getting the HOV lane stickers is great along with the $1,500 rebate from the state. I also got a time-of-use meter from my local utility (Pasadena) so I get cheaper electricity rates during mid and off peak times. They also gave me $300 of LED lightbulbs! The car is sluggish in ER mode while driving in the city but, has been fine on long trips. I average 37 to 43 miles MPG depending on how fast I'm going. No issues ... yet.

I bought my Volt used with 50,000 miles on it. (Look at the Lifetime mileage-- that will tell you how often the engine has been used by MPG.) My car only had 40mpg in its lifetime so the engine has lots of hours on it. I didn't really care though as I have a 120 mile commute every day. The resale value sucks on them but that means I bought a great used car for cheap! The first thing that struck me test driving it was how solid it feels. It really feels like a tank but it handles super tight. Interior materials feel to be of good quality (leather is thick, covers the whole seat, and dash panels are solid and fit together tightly). It is also of course silent when in Normal mode and the generator is relatively quiet when it runs (I only use it on the highway which drowns out engine noise with road noise anyway); it's still quieter and smoother than a 4-cylinder. I get about 55mpg in my daily commute and use electric only on weekends when I don't drive far. The increase in my electric bill has been about $10/month. The back seat is cramped but I don't have passengers much. The car also came with the Bose sound system and it sounds fantastic. My biggest gripe is the user interface on the center stack and dash. It's an absolute mess. It's super dated looking and just vomits information at the driver. The graphics look straight out of 2002. I love access to tons of info on how my car is running, but sheesh. Otherwise, the Volt has been great, super reliable, and a blast to drive especially in Sport mode. My mother in law drove mine and bought one for herself. Be like my mother in law. Drive a Volt. Update May 2020: I still have my Volt and have no plans on replacing it anytime soon. It now has 145,000 miles on it and the only thing I've had to have fixed was the electric motor bearings, which was still covered by warranty at the time. The only thing that is constantly giving me a headache is that the charge door sticks. They used a cheap plastic pin that has worn down over time, so I have to open the door with my thumbnail while pressing the release button with my other hand. Other than that, the car has been great. I really wish they hadn't stopped making them. Update May 2022: 200,000 miles and still going strong. Haven’t had any repairs needed since my last update. Probably should get brakes soon (they are original to the car, but I never use them because I always use regenerative braking). Had to refill the washer fluid. Maintenance on this car is shockingly boring because there’s so little of it. Update May 2024: 235,000 miles and going! Unfortunately, shortly after my 200K review, the unthinkable happened… the hybrid battery needed replacing. It was a stiff $7,000 fix from BestHybridBatteries.com, but with an unlimited mileage 3-year warranty it was worth it imo. A year afterwards, the motor bearing started going out, another $1,200. Knock wood, since then, it is like driving a new car. I still can’t talk myself out of this car and into a new car payment. Update 11/24: Will hit 250,000 miles on my way to work tomorrow. Every sensor still works. Even the leather still looks new. What a great car.

Purchased in Oct 2012 and have approx. 5000 miles on the vehicle as of this posting. I am 6'2" and fit just fine in this car. I love the fact that I can cruise up to 40 miles (depending on temp and speed) without having to use gas. This translates to 0 carbon emissions probably 75% of the time and the cost for electric versus gas in my area translates to 85-90 MPG at current premium fuel costs, so you can't beat the efficiency of the battery power. On long drives the car is smooth and comfortable. I would recommend leasing this vehicle - when 3 years are up - the technology will probably have advanced to 100+ miles before fuel is used.

Our daily commute is 15 miles so we use electric only while in town. Cost for a full charge (30-40 miles) is $0.62. Our last trip out of town was fine, 200+ miles, about 6 hours in the car and did not get uncomfortable. Rarely could tell when the gas engine came on. Edmunds mentions touchy brakes but ours seems fine.

I have had the car for 8 months and still have not yet visited a gas station. My commute is only 18 miles and I have charging abilities at work. My biggest surprise regarding this vehicle is the Chevy brand. I am not a snob, but my previous vehicles are Lexus, Porsche, BMW, MBZ and the more I read about the Volt the better it sounds. I then test drove one out of curiosity and was shocked at the build quality. It is outstanding. What most people don't understand is there is a timer on the internal charging system that allows it to start charging at midnight. In California EV owners get very, very cheap electricity starting at midnight. So I am paying very little for energy.

I purchased a 2013 Volt new in May, 2013, and only wish I'd have waited for a few months because the price dropped by $5,000. I have driven the vehicle for over 165,000 miles and have had only 2 issues; one of which was repaired under GM Recall, the other was covered by GM Warranty. I drive 120 miles round trip for work, so in the summer, roughly 1/2 of my commute is on battery power. The lifetime average for the car is currently at 56.7 mpg, and will increase over the summer months, as the heater uses more of the electric range during the winter. The ride is great and the only thing my spoiled kids complain about is the lack of a DVD entertainment system, and no heated rear seats. The car has driven fine in the Colorado winters I've had to deal with for the past 4 years, a lot of which is because of the tires chosen. I went away from the factory tires within a week of buying the car, because they were NOT good and I didn't feel safe while driving in rain with them, and certainly would have been worse in snow! Our Volt has been awesome and after reading about people with in excess of 200,000 miles, I have no worries about the dependability and longevity of the vehicle, which is why I sold it to my nephew with confidence it will be the same for him.

Great car... replaced a BMW 335I... this car isn't a bimmer, but it's a very well built vehicle although there is a lot of plastic... fun to drive... but, you have to learn how to drive it... I drive mostly in low around town (not in the traditional sense as car is one speed), it helps regenerate the battery more efficiently... getting between 38-45 miles on a charge this way... when driving on open road, hold feature is outstanding... saves all the electric... Averaging 36 MPG when on all gas ... Overall MPG will depend on how you drive... the more you use it as an EV the higher the MPG... Car is pricey but so is all new technology... happy to buy American... don't miss the Bimmer...

My Wife and I bought 2 of these Volts in 2012. Within 7 months my Volt had a major Regen bearing failure. The dealer tried to replace it twice. They ended up giving me a new car (A buyback). Within 1000 miles of owning the new 2013 Volt, I had no heat, that took 2 trips to the dealer to fix, and then the same Regen bearing failure that took weeks to get repaired! Now just in the past 3 weeks my Wifes Volt Died. It had to be towed in 2 times. The dealer said it was a 12 Battery issue. They replaced it and it failed again! These cars have too many issues that the dealer or GM have knowledge enough to fix properly. Buyer Beware...buy at your own risk!

I've been buying cars for over 50 years. The Volt is like no other. The smooth quiet power is nicer than any V8 I've owned. I've had my Base Chevy Volt here in PA for 7 years. Four oil changes.. been to a gas station 8 times. I've used just 6.2 gallons of gas in the last year.. to go 8,300 miles of hard hilly stop and go city driving. I'm averaging over 715 mpg since I owned the car!! I have a wattmeter on the charger that indicates that the car is costing approx. 2.4 cents per mile for electricity... $25/month.. use the range extender maybe once a month... but was sure glad I have the extender. It's nice to NOT have any range anxiety. Been to the gas station 8 times in 7 years... already saved at least 300 trips to the gas station... four oil changes in 7 years... and the oil and filter are very easy to change myself. Have not had a single problem with this car.... feels extremely solid... still very fun and relaxing to drive. I paid $22,900 for my Volt .. not to often you can buy the best engineered car in the world (as per over 128,000 SAE automotive engineers around the world) for that much. Brakes are still at 95%. almost like new after 53K hard city miles... never seen anything like it.

Have put 6k miles on my Volt and I am very happy with the purchase. My work commute is about 20 miles a day round trip. I've used 18.6 gallons of gas since I bought it. The Volt performs like a champion off a green light and in heavy highway traffic. Absolutely no issues getting where I need to go and moving at the pace I need to free myself of oblivious drivers. This car glides like glass, and I climb hills everyday. Shift into Sport mode and it's a golf cart on steroids; I routinely outrun german cars. I've been in Audi's for 10 years, and traded an A4 for the Volt.

Volt problem

My wife drove our Volt to a friend's house. When she parked and turned off the car, she realized that she had parked someone in She quickly pushed the power button and shifted to reverse. Nothing happened! The power button was lit on the console but there was no power. Pushing the power button again gave the message: "initializing--wait to shift" This continued for about an hour until the car sensed the battery was running down and shut itself off . After the shutdown, it restarted and operated normally but for an hour it was dead! Chevy told us they had never seen this. We conclude you absolutely must wait for everything to come up before shifting! Software needs a fix.

The more I drive it the more I like it in spite of its quirks. This car handles like its on rails. It has very good acceleration and rides like a BMW. I am 6ft 230lbs. My size is pushing the limits on this car. I don't find the seats to be very comfortable. The generator is loud especially when it first turns on and is trying to build a buffer in the battery. Once settled down after a minute or two it really drives like a dream. I like this car.

This is a great car. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Chevy really did a great job engineering this vehicle and they thought about every little detail. If you're looking for a Lexus then don't buy this car but for what you get in this price range it's definitely the best buy. It's a really advanced car with a lot of features that make it a joy to drive. Everyone loves my car and they're blown away by how well it drives, how nice it looks, and how quiet it is. The regenerative braking is one of my favorite features, you'd be surprised how many extra miles you get just from recharging your batter whenever you slow down, come to a stop, or even let the car coast. This is a huge money saver and makes changing your break pads a very rare occasion.

The money I save on gas is more vs car payment

I purchased this vehicle back in April of 2017. It was 3 years old with 29,000 miles on it. I traded in my Chrysler 200 and applied that towards the $14,500 cost of the vehicle. I was attracted to the leather seating, the bose sound system, and most importantly the fuel economy. I am not someone who has ever been attracted to a hybrid vehicle, the irony of all of this is that I was originally interested in a truck. The car did not feel like a traditional hybrid vehicle : flimsy, light, no features, small, etc. It felt like a luxury vehicle with many options inside the car. I drive an average of 80 miles a day for my commute. I use all electric on my way to work, and then one gallon of gas on my way home. At times I may drive more depending on what location I may be working. I used to spend over $320 a month on fuel. Each time I filled my tank in my old car I would spend $80 a week, sometimes more. With the Volt I spend an average of $20 a week because I don't use anywhere as much fuel. There are other savings, too. I have no had an oil change on the car since I purchased it because the mileage I accrue is half electric / half gas. I only need an oil change when I've used 7,000 miles on the engine. I would recommend a used Chevrolet Volt to anyone because the price is half of what you would spend buying a new one, and the payment will pay for itself, and you'll still save money while driving in a very nice car. It has a statement when driving it. Only concern I have is that it does not have a spare tire, so I purchased my own spare tire and keep it in the back.

I have driven my Chevy Volt about 2000 miles so far. I've used about 2 gallons of gas. The car handles well and has very good acceleration. This is my first American car. Previously Honda/Acura guy. I can honestly say that I'm very happy with the car.

Great car poor dealership experience

Love the car. Fun to drive. Zippy. Haven't put any gas in it since I bought it 3 weeks ago. Doesn't stink up the garage like my wife's car when I start it. Usually recharges fully on 110 Volt circuit overnight. The bad. 2 weeks after getting the car the "service airbag" light came in. Took it to the Chevy dealership which was a super poor customer service experience and they told me that the passenger presence system had failed and to fix it would cost $775. No thank you. I will investigate other ways to fix it. The infotainment center is a nightmare and the stock sound system is pathetic. You can forget about finding or changing anything below the screen. Good luck trying to change the radio to usb too. For an almost $40 K new MSRP, they could have put some $12 speakers in instead of $2 ones. Perhaps the GM engineers should actually go out and listen to some music? Same thing for the seats. No lumbar support in a car of this value???? Come on. How long had GM made car seats? Have they learned anything??? No power drivers side seat adjustments either. Guess they skimped to save money. Too bad.

Overall, a really nice car, one of the best I ever drove. When you can charge at home and have a work commute less than 40 miles, you can go months without buying gas. Having a car pool lane sticker is great too. We had to move and can't charge at home anymore and my work makes you pay to charge at 3x the rate I was able to charge at home. It is actually cheaper to run the car in ICE mode and use gas. That is why I'm not choosing to purchase it or buy another EV car. In EV mode, the instant torque was a blast and is probably the thing I miss the most. The car handled well and was comfortable for long trips. Not sure why we almost never see a Volt on the open road. It gets almost 40 mpg on the highway and can almost go 400 miles on a single tank if I keep it around 65 mph. The trunk space is fine for two people but, with the seats folded down, you can carry a decent amount. I've been driving purely in ICE mode for the past year and a half and have been averaging about 33 to 35 mpg. The things I won't miss are: only two seats in the back, the front A pillars that reduce visibility, rear visibility not so great either, weak climate control system that drains the battery if you are try to run it full blast, lack of a real cargo cover, rear windshield is like a sunroof so the car can get hot, no spare tire, not so intuitive controls on center console, range-extending ICE engine is really loud, and quirky bluetooth and usb audio functionality.

The most misunderstood car in America

This is a wonderful car, plain and simple. Everyone seems to want to make it only about whether or not the battery will pay for itself but that really misses the point. This is a stylish, distinctive, comfortable car that is really fun to drive and has, as one of its many features, a minimal need for gas. It costs under $30,000 despite what everyone says. If you buy one you can get a $3,000 rebate, a $7,500 tax refund. And for $30,000 its a terrific car. I traded in a Prius V (that also cost $30,000 BTW) and its a WAY better car. I have owned BMWs, Jaguars, Audis, Mercedes and many other "fine" cars and this is different but equal or better than them all!

I wanted to love this car. As a prius driver for years I was so excited to have a more luxurious eco-friendly car and buy American. Win/win right? Unfortunately not. This car has stranded me 3 times because it stopped functioning in the first year and a half of ownership. Two of these times I was placed in incredibly dangerous situations. The first 2 times I was told that there was a defective part that would be replaced. The third time the dealership couldn't figure out what was wrong for days and then gave me an illogical reason for the breakdown. It's an incredibly unreliable car. Women should especially beware of their safety if they buy this car. Just waiting for the next breakdown.

I had 2013 Chevy volt leased from Mark Christopher Auto Center in Ontario, CA for 39 months 48,750 miles. I'm at 46,600 miles all of sudden got message Engine Heating up turn off AC, followed by engine oil life 0%, turnoff engine and change the oil immediately with check engine light. Had got it towed with AAA & took it for oil change. Even after oil change when I switch to engine keep getting message engine heating up turnoff the car. I took it to the dealer but he says warranty for the car is either 3 years or 36K miles only on Bumper to Bumper. Even the the powertrain has warranty for 5 years/100K dealer says Hose is broken and powertrain is damaged so cannot cover it under warranty. If you look at onStar reports it's well managed car and always got serviced from dealer also has only 18K on powertrain. Not sure how would Hose even break or powertrain fail on such low mileage. Now the dealer asks $1400 authorization to bring down the powertrain and repair might go anywhere upto $6000 on their finding. This sucks cause you buy $40,000 car that can only run 36K miles without issues and will end up paying thousands of dollars more than what you saved on gas. Also look at depreciation value on this car is valued $10,000 on this mileage in good condition. I had taken this upto manufacturer but still no proper response so left out with sharing my experience in social media so atleast few people that read can think before they buy these kind of cars in market. Apart from the cars they sell you can also look at the kind of service you get buying such cars from them.

Can a car be enchanting? This little marvel surely is to me. What can be better than a car that hardly burns any gas? (Smoking was banned in restaurants and bars a while back for humans, now the cars have to stop too!!!) This, and yet still provide a much smoother and more comfortable ride than any gas-based car? Sure, the car has its little quirks, mentioned in many reviews, but to me they seem minor, even charming. The backseats? Of course they are not very roomy, but my children like the bucket-style seats, and their middle console with their cupholders, USB ports (with adapter) and storage compartment. The touch sensitive buttons? Actually, they work really well, and look kind of cool (just don't try to clean them while the car is powered on). Electronics integration with phone, navigation, etc is excellent. I use it with a 240V charger (ClipperCreek ), which is a nice accessory to have for any EV. I am surprised that by now not every car works with an electric motor coupled to a range extender. It's just a much better design than a transmission and provides a much superior driving experience. I bought it used in Feb 2016 and driven 8000 miles, and been to the gas station only twice (last visit in June 2016, over seven months ago!).

My Volt replaced a 20ishmpg Lexus. Over the 36,000 miles of the lease the Volt will save me $7200 with gas at $4.00 gallon. (My commute is within the Volt's electric ranged...so no gas.) The actual cost to me over the old Lexus with gas savings is about $99.00 a month for a very nice $40,000 car. Obviously if something drives gas past $4.00 the savings go up even more.

the volt is a poor car. I have had one for 2 years and have had a radiator replaced a water pump. The radiator cost $1100.00. I took the dealer 3 days to get it back to me. It now needs a battery. The battery cost 300.00 and it has a leak in it so when it goes to the car wash it leaks on the passenger side. that will cost 400.00. In the past I have bought 9 chevrolets. THis is my last. Save yoursellf the grief and look at a Prius.

I decided to give the 2013 Volt a try after my '10 Prius hit 90K. My car is loaded with almost every option and I paid 34K before tax credit. I drive 36 miles r/t to work and usually make it on electric. Pros: Tight, drives like a vault, quiet, smooth. Technology Int and ext styling. Fantastic economy Buying an american car Cons: Price even after $9000 dealer discount Craftmanship--lots of problems Poor ergonomics The center stack has buttons scattered about, seat heater turns on by itself, electric charger door fell off, 110v charger stopped working, trim pieces fell off, ipod stopped working, poor craftsmanship.

I cannot believe I have had so many issues with my Volts. I bought two Volts in 2012, and both of them were bought back by GM due to major issues (One would die with no power at all, and another had a Regen Drivetrain Bearing failures) . One of the two I accepted a 2013 Volt thinking they worked out the Bugs...they did not! I could not recommend any GM product after the way that they have treated me. The director for Chevy after sales told me they would not fix my car. I have been in and out of the dealer way too much for a then $45k car! Buyer beware, read the Volt forums and look up Bearing issues in the drivetrain. You will be happy you did before pulling the trigger on this crap!

I've been driving the Volt for 18 months. I loved the car until a month ago when I went to unplug the charger from our garage outlet and the outlet was melted - very scary situation. I've spent a month trying to get GM and my dealer to do something (Woodward Motors in Andover, MA). GM wants me to produce the license of the electrician who built my house in 1982 before they do anything. No joke... Don't buy this car, it's dangerous and GM and dealers don't stand behind it.

Traded in ES Lexus, haven't looked back. Car is a joy to drive, it WANTS to move. 3000 miles so far, visited gas station only once. Over 300 mpg. Love that the car is so fast and so quiet. Anyone who compares this car to a normal car to calculate payback on gas savings is missing the point. This is a premium car. Negatives: visibility is somewhat limited, holds only 4 passengers, Bluetooth issues with iPhone 5 (worked flawlessly with my iPhone 4). I'm told this should be fixed in the the next couple of weeks. They'll send out the update directly to the car wirelessly. This car is a marvelous piece of technology. If you're thinking about buying one, just do it.

The Volt has the best of both worlds. Full EV up to 45 miles then switches over to gas for longer range up to 300 miles total. Strugles in high heat weather over 100 degrees on hill climbs / long grades. Not enough power after batteries run out to handle A/C and uphill climb. GREAT Local Commuter Car but not for long distance travel.

Best car I've ever owned. First electric vehicle and I will not go back to a gas engine. Smooth linear acceleration and barely a whisper of noise. Good torque makes it peppy to drive and fairly agile for its weight. Saves me $150 on gas every month during a 30 mile commute. Saves me $100 a year in oil changes. More importantly saves me the time and hassle of going to the gas station or oil change shop. Better than a lot of cars in its class in the snow because of its weight. Leather suede interior is luxury and durable, not like my wife's junk Prius with the plastic falling off the doors. Not to mention the sound insulation on the volt is waaay better than the prius (like the difference in driving with your windows down or up on the highway). Only trouble in 3 years of owning it was covered under a recall for bubbles in the battery coolant, and cost me nothing.

It is impossible to update the navigation system on this vehicle. I can buy an update for a 2012 and a 2014, but GM hasn't seen fit to update the 2013. I am old enough to have owned a Chevy Vega and I vowed never to own a GM auto again but my wife wanted an electric car. GM finally got around to updating the navigation system in 2017 replacing the original 2011 map information. On the bright side, the vehicle has been nearly maintenance free, other than required maintenance. The only problem was that the back up camera when out just before the 36 month warranty expired. I have noticed some deteration in the battery. It used to charge up to 48-49 miles in mild weather. Now it rarely gets above 40.
