Overview
The 2027 Traverse is one of the larger SUVs in Chevrolet's lineup, bookended by the smaller two-row Blazer and the massive full-size Tahoe. Last redesigned in 2024, the Traverse is one of the newer vehicles in the Chevy stable; that means cutting-edge tech like a Google Built-In infotainment system and General Motors' hands-free Super Cruise suite are on the equipment list. And if you think the standard versions of the Traverse aren't quite capable or stylish enough, you can opt for the adventure-ready Z71 with all-terrain tires and protective plates, or go for the performance-inspired RS model. But the real question Chevy shoppers will have to answer is whether or not to stick with the cushier, road-focused Traverse or upgrade to the beefy Tahoe.
Edmunds spotlight: Traverse or Tahoe?
Shoppers have a few three-row SUV choices from Chevrolet; the Traverse is the smallest of the trio and the only one that is a crossover SUV. If maximum passenger space is of utmost importance, the Tahoe gives you about 3 inches of extra legroom throughout the cabin. The Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 pounds, compared to the Traverse's 5,000-pound maximum, and it's also quicker to accelerate to 60 mph. The Tahoe can also haul a little more cargo (though if you really need stellar cargo space, the even longer Suburban might be the big SUV for you). The Traverse, however, makes for a better daily driver, with a slightly more comfortable ride quality, improved handling and maneuverability, and, in most cases, fuel efficiency — though the Tahoe's diesel option can meet or beat the Traverse.
Competitors to consider
Although we like the recently redesigned Chevy Traverse, it comes up short against other three-row midsize SUVs. The Hyundai Palisade and Toyota Grand Highlander top our list, and they're both available as hybrids. The Kia Telluride was the class leader before the Hyundai and Toyota were redesigned, and an all-new 2027 Telluride is headed to dealerships this spring. The Traverse trails the Palisade and Grand Highlander by a noticeable margin according to our ratings scorecard, which is why we suggest checking them out before committing to the Chevy.
