Great car for daughter

Bought this car used for my daughter. Not a car with great p/u so i knew she would not be taking off from a dead stop. Not a lot of room in back seat so other kids did not like riding in it so i knew they would not pile into her car. Great leg room in front seat. Has used this car to travel back and forth to school in northeast. Handles great in snow and rain. Easy to park. Good car for a parent concerned about kids safety.

I've had my 03 Tracker since 2006. Its a 6 cylinder so has lots of pickup. Since Im on the east coast inland we have no salt problems so rust is non existant. I did replace the hoses and belts, new radiator and alternator but now at 128,000 miles it runs like a champ. I absolutely love this little beast. The engine has been kept clean and oil replaced every 3-4000 miles. This of all the cars Ive ever owned has to be the most dependable ride I've ever had.I do think it's important to have your Tracker serviced by a dependable service technician on regular intervals and keep that oil changed like clockwork. Repair the little things that come with age and these little truck/suvs will last you decades. Update: 2018. Car still runs like a champ 135,000 miles. 137,000 July 2018.

My wife and I lived in Alaska for many years. We found the Tracker to be a great ride on the snow, ice, dirt roads. This little Chevy is one of the best all around 4X4's I have ever had in the snow.

This is my third Tracker, and first V-6. They are kinda ugly, but they always get you home. Mine serves two purposes: toad behind my motorhome and deeep boondocks transportation for hunting, fishing, and birding. I would much prefer it to a Jeep to cross the continental divide. Wife doesn't like the seats, as they are cloth covered cinder blocks, but....hey. Ice, snow, mud, sand....never been stopped.

I drive this tracker 300 miles a week in western Pa. Factory tires were OK, but an upgrade to Uniroyal Laredo tires made driving in snow and offroad much better. The car works great for me commuting to work, but is not very good as a family use car. It has little cargo space and small rear seat. It has been fairly reliable but is now developing some problems. I had rear differential bearings replaced at 80k miles @ $500.At 100k miles the engine developed a rattling or knock at idle, I believe this to be timing chain problem. I have a wheel bearing making noise and the oil pan is rusting through from the outside. I also have had both cat. converters replaced. The car now has near 143k.

After having a '95 small Tracker that rusted out, I bought this '03 in 2013 with a good car fax and 76000 miles.. It appeared to have surface rust on bottom. The electronics and safety features were far advanced in comparison to the '95. The interior was luxurious compared to the '95. As with all Trackers it was fantastic in the snow with good snow tires on it. After a year it had leaking fuel lines and cracks in the fuel tank (I drove this only on the streets.) The shop and I discovered that Chevrolet had no replacement tanks and little else for the Tracker. No one else made an aftermarket tank either. Even a junkyard that had several of them couldn't find one decent enough to sell me. I ended up fixing the tank myself with Eastwood fuel tank sealer. I had bought the top of the line bumper to bumper warranty from Vehicle One and they have a small disclaimer in the contract that says they won't cover any problem due to rust, even though they specifically indicate that they'll cover gas tanks and fuel lines ("normal wear and tear" whatever else that is). They also made various disparaging remarks when I spoke with them about my claim. Don't buy a warranty from [non-permissible content removed]. The rockers started to rust by that time and I traded it in this month getting about 25% of what I had in it. Apparently rust is a big problem underneath on the Trackers. Buyer beware. Also I had both front door handles on the inside break. They are fun to drive but can't take the salt even when you wash the underside frequently during the winter thaws. The kid at the shop where I took it said I should just take down to the junkyard...

It is perfect for travel. You sit in this SUV upright so that your back is happy. You can see the road for miles. You can haul most anything on the racks or when you put down the back seats. Low maintenance overall. I want a new one with this is paid off.

I have just perchased my 2nd tracker, I have a 2000 model and just bought the same 2003 model. WE REALLY LOVE IT! My 2000 model has never been in the shop, the gas mileage is great and I had a car accident 9k worth of damage and I walked away.I have to say that the tracker is worth the money and that is why we are buying again. Hope the new one has just as good of a TRACKER! record.

I have owned my tracker for just over a year, and has put over 20,000 kms on it so far...its a great road trip car...lots of space with the seats down.. however not much room for adults with long legs in the back.. It turns great and handles well... haven't had any problems mechanically..."knock on wood".. very quiet... and reliable. Can anyone tell me what that power button is actually for??

I absolutely love this truck. It is fun to get in and out of it with the solid feel of the doors. The front seats are very comfortable, I have the felt feeling seats which are very cushy. All coponents are easy to reach and it feels very trucky from the driver seat. The gas milage shocked me, she is a very thirsty vehicle for a small block V-6. I believe it may be due to the rear wheel drive.

Driving a SUV with a full fame is a real pleasure. First off you are much safer and the off road capabilities of the TRacker are great. It has a real transfer case and a true 4x4 system. It's great on gas (2wd) mode and is a real fun vehicle to zip around town in. Don't listen to the so called pros calling this truck "dated" they are comparing apples to oranges. The Tracker is about $4,000 less than the honda's and toy-ota's. With rebates and low APR rates you can't beat the TRacker's Value!!

Love my Tracker! It's an suv economy sports car. Super fun to drive. Smooth and quiet ride, especially considering how light weight it is. Comfy - adjustable steering wheel & contoured seats with arm rest for driver and passenger. Power windows, locks & mirrors. A/C & cruise control. Rear seat folds down for more cargo space. Roof rack. Tow hitch (load capacity 1500lbs: utility trailer, atv's or small boat). A monthly bus pass costs more than what I spend on gas each month. Doesn't burn oil like a lot of 4bangers. Get this - 4 wheel drive on the freeway, at freeway speed! No joke, shift at speeds up to 60mph!! Last year's snow? No problem. I don't even own a set of tire chains. I installed an after market sound system, but the OEM stereo still sounded great because of the speaker placement and low road noise. I just wanted an amp, subs and hands-free. If you are looking for a car that's a little bit of everything, this is a vehicle to consider. Of course, you'll have to get your own, 'cuz i'm keeping mine. Update- had my Tracker for about 3 years and have no plans for getting rid of it any time soon. Regular maintenance and I suspect this will be on the road for some time. And I'll be driving it.

I love my little Tracker. I bought it 5 years ago and have not had one bit of trouble with it. This vehicle is very compact if you need to put a child car seat in the back seat be prepared to have the chid banging the back of your seat. You can't fit an adult in the back seat comfortably. But that aside if you put the seats down you have a huge amount of room to haul stuff. This little SUV is very cute and alot of fun to drive. It has get up and go and handles well. When you pop it into four wheel drive you can go through almost anything. In Minnesota winters it has come in handy a quite a few times. My car sits outside and it has always started even when the temp was 30 below zero.

I have had several much more expensive cars, but I love this one the most. The gas mileage is great and it is small and maneuverable and can be parked anywhere! I drive a lot of miles and it is unexpectedly comfortable, even on long trips. Not a huge amount of power (watch out when passing!), but fun to drive. Perfect for toting around 2 large dogs. Had some problems with the power windows wearing out and the exterior portion of the door handles breaking. Other than that, no major maintenance issues (knock on wood). 145,000 miles and counting!

I looked at the chassis on a RAV4 and knew it wasn't what I wanted so I opted for the Tracker, which is more truck for the buck. It runs and rides like one (as would be expected), which is fine with me. Not fond of the plastic trim, radio or fan, but the overall package works- people like it, the engine's a breeze to work on if you need to, and the 'P' (power) switch works, adjusting the shift pattern to provide more power. It gets surprisingly good mileage- up to 25 mpg on the freeway at legal speeds. Too bad Suzuki gave up on the design, it was a classic.

On Saturday 4/13/19 coming home from shopping I went to slow down on a hill and the old gal just could not brake and my foot kept going down ! I did not want to believe it could be a problem? Back tracking , I bought the gray tracker from a local dealer in Worcester . It had a little over 7,000 miles on it and I had traded in a new awful Chevy Astro van that I had bought to try to replace my over 100,000 mile Dodge Caravan .First of all it is very hard for me to stay focused due to Chronic Lyme disease! If I were to compare the Tracker to other experiences the one really notable great thing is the Tracker was reliable and even after long stretches of single digit weather and below zero weather I would put the key in and first depress the accelerator pedal and the vehicle always turned over and was NOT garaged ! That may be what did the vehicle in as I live in MA in a very cold county with a town that does not spare the salt! I must say I am feeling very chagrinned about this whole experience as it just seemed to happen! I had been thinking about buying a used Tracker until I read many of your reviews and it seems as if parts could be a big problem! I have no idea what I will do about getting a replacement as I am 67 years old and live alone with my dog and am trying to basically pay my bills and hope to move to the Southern USA or midwest where the people are friendlier and the cost of living is less! I am an RN and worked for a pharmaceutical company in marketing for many years and went into nursing as a second career! It was a good choice as it fit my lifestyle ! Have no idea how I will find an affordable replacement but will do something ! May look into a lease!

I love my new Tracker and so do all my friends! It's attractive, fun, dependable. This is my first SUV so I wasn't sure what to expect for road trips. Last month I took my first 8- hour drive, and it was very smooth - so much so that I had to watch my speed! I'm pleased with all the features I got for the price.

I got my tracker when I was 16, and found that it was the perfect first car. It was easy to drive, with just enough room without being a beast on the road. I felt safe and had no serious blindspots. The 4 cylinder engine was the perfect balance between power and fuel economy. It did anything I asked, from driving up curvy, curvy mountainous roads, to in- town driving, to going three miles up, three miles down on Mt. Currahee (a gravel, washed out road up a mountain...very off road). I could stow gear, friends and even haul bricks. After 6 years, it started to have a few problems starting, but started when given gas. It quit when idling at a stoplight once, but the dealer could find nothing.

WE HAVE HAD ZERO PROBLEMS AND SHE WAS EVEN REAR ENDED WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAT TWO WEEKS OLD AND THE FRONT END OF THE OTHER CAR WAS TOTALLY GONE AND ALL WE NEEDED WAS A NEW COVER FOR THE REAR BUMPER, IT HAD A SMALL SCRATCH IN IT. THE ONLY THING I DISLIKE IS THE INSURANCE RATEING IS TOO HIGH WHICH RATE IN MUCH HIGHER PRIMUM. I PAY AMOST TWICE THE AMOUNT FOR INSURANCE ON THE TRACKER THENI DO ON MY TRAIL BLAZER. OTHER THAN INSURANCE IT IS A GREAT VEHICLE!!!!

I have had my 2003 Tracker since 05. It now has about 160k on it and aside from minor stuff done to it I have had no issues at all. It runs like when I bought it 17 years ago. I use it as a fishing vehicle now and it can pretty much go anywhere in the woods I have taken it. My best advice is to keep these little beast oiled and changed when it starts to get dirty, change the filters and hoses when they get old. They will run forever.

I love my 2D Tracker. 2WD 4cyl auto is all I need to pull boats with twice the engine size over 100 miles. Turns on a dime. Very reliable. 280,000 miles on mine. Replaced the ragtop with a hard top after one cold winter broke the plastic. Moving to Mexico, where they are plentiful...will try to buy a used one there. Considering it's new brother, the Suzuki Jimny.

I've had mine for about 4 months now. After having a 2002 tracker 4 cyl I wanted another. The V6 is VERY underpowered, but is adequate, its not a sports car afterall. I love the styling on the ZR2 and mine has the leather seats which are great. The fold flat floor is hady too. On complaint would be the gas mileage, I average about 16 city, and maybe 22 hwy. Which is terrible considering the size, but I love it so much I cant get rid of it!

I have absolutely no complaints thus far. A very economical car with a noticeably choppy ride at times. But, no problems.

I was hesitant to buy a Tracker but was talked into it by a friend. I am surprised how smooth it rides and the power it has for a four cylinder. I felt I definitely got my moneys worth. I actually enjoy driving it.

I just recently purchased a 2003 Tracker complete with all the options and I honestly think I got my money's worth! I was previously thinking of getting a Rav4 but with all the options that I wanted, I knew I would have to spend a few thousands more. With the Tracker, you get the performance of a V6 plus the convenience of all the options (i.e. power locks & windows, ABS, Cruise Control & alloy wheels).

Lucky to find '03 with less than 6k. I drive a lot, 250 to 400 miles a week. Use it in my job and get mileage allowance for it. Fun to drive. The optional 2.0 liter engine is very peppy over the base engine, even with the automatic trans, which I have grown to like. Easy to park, easy to turn in tight spots, turns super tight U-turns. Lucky to find and like white color for very sunny climate I am in. I did have to replace the rear axle bearrings at about 36k and a cost of about $1,300, ouch! Just out of standard warranty. Still wondering why the 2 door uses the same axle as the 4 door, and having less weight, should not of had a problem burning out, even carrying me, 280 lb guy! No other problems.

This "baby SUV" has met my needs. I wanted a car that gets good gas mileage, looks good and has easy-to-access storage and transportation. I have put a dog cage in the back (with a dog), plenty of groceries, and luggage with no trouble. The interior comfort leaves something to be desired but the design is very good and the car is fun to drive and reliable. For the price and category of vehicle, the Tracker has been a good bet for our small family.

This has been a pretty practical SUV. I have enjoyed it though I don't drive a whole lot, it is dependable and kind of fun to drive. It has a power button which my son calls a thruster.

Lots of fun to drive. The convertible is GREAT! Four adults can fit into vehicle. Easy for handicapped people to get in and out of the front seats.
