2027 Chevy Tahoe

The 2027 Chevrolet Tahoe is a full-size three-row SUV that is only overshadowed by the larger Suburban in Chevy's lineup. It was last redesigned in 2021 and received a few major updates for 2025. All signs point to a redesigned Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup for 2027, and since they share a common platform, a new Silverado usually means a new Tahoe as well. However, a new Tahoe has historically lagged behind a new Silverado by one to two model years. Based on the automaker's typical redesign cycle, we expect the 2027 Chevy Tahoe to be a carryover model, with an overhauled Tahoe debuting in 2028 or 2029.

Edmunds spotlight: Body-on-frame advantages and drawbacks

The 2027 Chevrolet Tahoe and its larger Suburban sibling are both built with a traditional body-on-frame construction carried over from GM's line of pickup trucks. This kind of platform has distinct advantages and disadvantages over more popular unibody SUVs (also known as crossovers). On one hand, the Tahoe can tow and haul much more than the slightly smaller Chevrolet Traverse, and it boasts improved off-road capabilities. On the other hand, it doesn't ride as smoothly or handle as well on pavement, and crossovers typically offer better fuel economy. If you're expecting a lot of towing or all-terrain adventures, the Tahoe is a great pick. If you'll be using it more as a commuter and kid hauler, you might be better served by the Traverse.

Competitors to consider

Among truck-based full-size SUVs, the Ford Expedition is our current favorite, and by a decent margin. It is more comfortable and nicer to drive than all of its rivals, and despite lacking a diesel engine option, it can tow heavier loads than the Tahoe. The Tahoe is also outshone by the mechanically identical GMC Yukon and the recently redesigned Nissan Armada. The Toyota Sequoia is also a worthy competitor, especially for its potent yet efficient hybrid powertrain.

It's difficult to determine if it would be worth it to wait for the redesigned Tahoe since we haven't yet driven the new Silverado. That said, we'd be surprised (and we're sure Chevrolet would be, too) if the next generation doesn't improve upon the current model.
