220,000 miles and almost no repairs
This is the most amazing vehicle made. I use this vehicle for work and tow heavy trailers almost every time it is used. We have put 220,000 miles on it and it is running strong. You cannot kill this vehicle if you tried.
Proven reliability
Solid vehicle. The newer gen Tahoe’s don’t seem to be built as well as the 2001-2006 models. I’ve had this truck for 17 years and still runs strong. 5.3 motor has had no issues at all. Transmission is the only weak point of vehicle. Finally had to rebuild at 140k.

BUY A 2001 THAOE!!!!!!!!!! BEST TRUCK EVER MADE!!!!!!!!
bought it with 175.000 miles and sold it with 245.000 miles, NEVER DO ANYTHING TO THAT TRUCK! AMAZING, ACTUALLY I DROVE IT FROM FLORIDA TO PA A BUNCH OF TIMES WITHOUT NO PROBLEM! this truck are amazing! with 245.000 miles on it, i would push the gas and that truck would still pull you into the seat! amazing, best product from chery so far! gas mileage in higway is actually really decent!
As trustworthy and dependable and as an old dog
We bought our 2001 Tahoe used in 2003 when our 4th child was born, and just downsized to a Honda CRV, in 2015. The most we ever paid for repairs was around $1000 when we needed 4 new tires. Our Tahoe was the MOST RELIABLE vehicle we have EVER owned! Never left us stranded anywhere, and could cut through snow like a hot knife through butter (we lived in Happy Valley where it could/did snow 8 mos out of the year) The seats were as plush and cushioned as theater seating, and we could always fit the kids' friends as well w/ the 3rd row of seats. The ride was always quiet -- something I really miss now. (Our CRV is reliable, but just not as quiet and cushiony inside). The day we traded in our Tahoe, was emotional for me--I felt like I had to put an old dog "down". The only reason we did let our Tahoe go was b/c the bottom was completely rusting out and wasn't able to pass inspection anymore -- that was a shame b/c the mechanics said the engine was "still tight"--but our "work horse" was ready to go to pasture. I'm sure in time I will love our CRV too, but in the meantime, it has some "big shoes to fill"!

Z71 Off Road
We absolutely love our Tahoe!! We bought it in November 2009 knowing it had a few problems from the previous owner's neglect. But after maintenance and repair, it runs fantastic!! I would definitely recommend this truck to anyone looking for a full sized SUV.
5.3 liter 2wd, best vehicle ever
Bought my 2001 Tahoe with 5.3 liter engine, in 2015 with 175K miles on it. Now have over 260K miles, uses no oil between changes, leaks no oil. runs like new. Best vehicle I have ever owned. 18-19 mpg on highway..15 mpg around town. Love this vehicle so much I bought a second one as a backup. The second one may have to wait a long time, the original has no indication of ever wearing out.

It's earned every penny i paid for it.
I have over 200k on mine and its 99 percent original.. I used the mobil 1 oils, and serviced everything like i should on time.. bought gas at newer gas stations in town. I use it to tow full size trucks and boats around with out a prob.. it could use a little more ummphh behind it.. but in respect most of what i tow equals over 10k lbs. I sell parts and work on cars for a living.. and it seems I have found those that only change the oil in the engine.. and neglect everything else seem to be the ones have the issues with trans missions and alternators.. same with any car the better you maintain it, the longer it will last.. and for my tahoe i do not plan to get rid of it. Its done me good
Don't want to get rid of it
This vehicle is the best one I have ever owned. Was going to trade it for a Lincoln Navigator until I drove it! Nothing in my opinion handles like my Tahoe, I have 109,000 miles on it and it rides just like the day I bought it. Just purchased a new warranty for 5 yr for it cause I plan on keeping it!
I'm dreading the day it stops running
I can't believe what a reliable and comfortable vehicle this has been. I've owned Toyota, Chevy Luv pick ups, Pontiac Grand Prix, Dodge Colt, Camry, 1994 Nissan Pathfinder then I bought this SUV in 2003 used with 25k miles. Best car buying decision I ever made. I am at 199,876 miles as of 11/18/2017 and I replaced clutch in the transfer gearcase (under warranty) windshield wiper fluid container, oil pan gasket, rear main seal, water pump and brakes. New shocks and struts. Oil changes and routine maintenance. I believe I will probably get another 200k more from this awesome ride even though I ride it super hard. I love to floor it and pull corners hard. This car takes it. Ill continue to add parts until it just won't go. Not because of cost but because it rides smoother than the 2017 and 2018 chevy models. I feel paranoid about the powertrain, like I should trade it in. Took wifes Toyota in for oil change. The service manager told me to hold on to this vehicle. Said it is arguably the best vehicle for reliability ever made by Chevy. If you own one keep it.

Great purchase!
These trucks are truly made like a rock. It's been the best car I've owned yet, were a GM only family. Just had the oil changed & 28 point inspection done this morning at my local Chevrolet dealer and the report shows nothing needs repair. She's a beast and accelerates great still. I've kept up with maintence like you should, have only had to replace the fuel pump and break lines ( car is from upstate NY originally - salty winters) The interior still looks new with the exception of very little wear in the drivers seat leather. Great vehicle for moving or hauling pretty much anything. A month or so ago I was in an automatic car wash and an Expedition rear ended me, my hitch stopped it from hurting my Hoe and busted their front bumper. I'll keep this baby til her last leg which I'm sure is another few hundred thousand miles. If you come across a clean one with good service records, go for it, worth every dollar.

Good Choice
The smaller 4.8L engine is a bit under powered. I'm getting about 16 MPG on average. Mixed city and highway driving. Mileage could be better. Breaking is weak. If you haul large load, consider aftermarket breaks. Goes great in the snow and off road. Smooth when driving on the highway with stock tires. Visors are a bit small could be a bit longer to cover width of the side windows. Interior is dated.
Great Puller or commuter
Purchased 01 Tahoe ls 4wd in may of 2009, had 110k mi on it then, has roughly 136k on it now (2/2010) have gotten 18.5 mpg w/out load going 65 mph during the summer on the highway with no stops. I love the truck. Love the tow haul, stopping w/out elec. Brakes is hard with a 3,000 lb boat/trailer behind you, wish Chevy would have put a little bigger rotors in. Mechanically since I have owned I have replaced washer fluid pump, and power steering pump went out (quite rare I hear). Wheels are corroding a little but hey its Minnesota they use salt. If someone asked my opinion about getting this vehicle, I would 100% without question tell them to go for it.
Great used vehicle !!
I have owned almost every chevy truck they make. From a 93 and 02 suburban to an 03 and 09 silverado. They were all great trucks but I have to say the 01 tahoe is the most functional for my needs in the group. Not overly large fairly nimble good cargo space and room for 6 people (no 3rd row). The 5.3 liter moves this truck well. It is so smooth and you can hardly hear it idle. Got it with 93k with original Trans, rear etc. It has a good amount of rust underneath but nothing unusual for the northeast salted roads. No body rot at all and paint still shines like new. Not bad for a 14 year old truck. A new tahoe would be around $50k. I paid $5k for this one. I'll be due for another tahoe sometime around 2029 and I'm sure I'll get a good deal on a 2015 then.

My 12 Year Old Tahoe
I am replying on review (22389239) (220,000 miles and almost no repairs). I do not have over 200,000 miles on mine but we are closing in on 100,000 and had a busy weekend hauling students stuff back home with my 2001 Tahoe which has done a great job! Today with a loaded U-Haul large double wheeled trailer, I drove from Winston-Salem, NC to Rockingham, NC following the posted highway speeds and I am proud to say that with a 1 ton trailer and an apartment of living supplies and the Tahoe packed too I received a 14.2 miles per gallon average while pulling this trailer in Tow/Haul mode. This is 6th time I have moved children and their supplies to and from college and My Tahoe has never failed.
Love of a lifetime
Nearing 200,000 with my Tahoe. The gas mileage is horrible of course, but the dependability is wonderful. I have had it for 14 years and she never let me down. Simple things had to be replaced like breaks and struts. The fuel pump and gas display had to be replaced and that's it. My wife wants me to sell mine but I love her the Tahoe I mean lol.

good rating for tahoe
rides great after 3 years and 66k miles. have had 0 problems. smooth pickup and the same mileage as a 6 cy explorer and much quiter
Falling pieces
Although we liked the space and the smooth ride (for an SUV), the lack of quality on the interior was very frustrating. Rattles and pieces falling off throughout the vehicle resulted in multiple trips to the GM dealer. Gas mileage was another issue.....but we knew that when we bought an SUV. After 9 months and 10000 miles we traded in for a car that wouldn't end up at the dealer more than at our house.....a Toyota Camry.
Pretty Good Effort
Excellent Effort. Chevy got it pretty close to pefrfect this time. Good build quality, great design (interior and exterior), better than expected performance, and absolutely awesome ride quality. My vehicle of choice to drive (there is a Mercedes sports car in the driveway) everyday.
Tahoe-The Best!
Absolutely no problems!
Great Vehicle
At 64 years old I have had many cars including Cadillacs. This Tahoe is by far my favorite vehicle ever! It is very comfortable to drive and ride in the heated seats, seat memory, handling are great.
By Comparison
My wife drives a Pathfinder of the same year and mine has 87,000 more miles and my tahoe has less wrong with it, better overall cosmetic look inside and outside. The Tahoe is timeless. For this generation its hard to tell who has an old one and who has a new one. By the way, the fuel economy isn't much different between the tahoe and pathfinder and the Tahoe is much heavier.
Best Made Tahoe
I've owned several Tahoes and I really miss my 2001 Tahoe. Fuel wasn't too bad. I got 20 mpg on the highway. Overall the best vehicle I've owned. I highly recommend owning one.
Still Happy after 8 years
I love my Tahoe! It's the first vehicle I've owned that was my choice alone. Outside of normal maintenance, only the pump in the reservoir for the windshield cleaner has needed to be replaced. This thing handles like a car, slipping effortlessly into parking places and turning easily. After all this time, it still draws compliments.
Great SUV
We bought my Tahoe new with 90 miles on it. I'm now at around 157,000. It still runs great! I haven't had any trouble out of it except the back hatch has had a little bit of trouble. I love the roominess and it drives great! Great storage area and lots of passenger room. The only thing that I don't like is the gas mileage. It gets about 16-17 mpg, which is really good for an SUV, but would be much better in a car. If your looking for a good suv, then this is great! But if you're wanting a vehicle with great gas mileage then choose a car.
2001 Chevy Tahoe Z71
This vehicle is a vehicle that I have wanted for a while and now that I own it I am more than satisfied with it. It is a very comfortable ride and exterior look of the vehicle are very sharp. I like the Z71 package because it makes it a more sporty looking SUV than the regular Tahoe LS/LT. Mechanically this vehicle is very sound and its performance is top of the line. I plan on going off roading a little bit and I know this will be the right vehicle for me. So I recommend a Tahoe, but I prefer the Z71 over the others with all the options. I love this vehicle and plan on keeping it for a very long time.
Rcommend Full Size SUV
The overall experience with my Tahoe has been outstanding, the power is excellent the ride is more like a luxury car than an SUV and the mileage while not so high is one of the best in it's class and surprising for a big V8. I handled 3-4 ft of snow last winter in northern Michigan like it wasn't even there.
Not bad but not good either.
I have been the original owner of my 2001 Chevy Tahoe Z71. I have had minimal trouble with it. I now have 100,000 miles on it and am starting to expeience some difficulties. The window motors are starting to burn up and the windshield washer motors are starting to crack and fail due to freezing. I have concerns about the transmission. It has been known to slip and I am the last one of all of my friends that has not had the transmission rebuilt. I have done all regular maintenance and I change the oil every 500 miles. My complaints are not with fuel mileage as I have the 5.3L motor and I average 15-16 mpg and I have more room than a 4Runner that get about the same mileage. Poor handling!
All Good Except Suspension!!
I purchased this 01 Tahoe used in 05 with about 50k on it. Everything has been great, added a dual exhuast along with a k&n filter for a 2-3 mpg increase. Other than that the truck is stock. Mechanically the truck is still in good shape,(engine and trans) but everything else in the car is LOOSE, LOOSE,LOOSE! Steering is awful, and the suspension has not been unfixable! The "autoride" feature has to be the worst automotive engineering mistake ever! Air compressors don't last and shocks are about $400 per unit. Granted the truck is 10 yrs old from build date, but you can't even cure suspension issues without spending thousands!
Animal
Purchased the 2001 Tahoe 4/4 in 2013. Still have with 230,000 miles. The Tahoe was built like a tank, very reliable and roomy. This 4/4 Lt has a locking rear differential which a few suv has. Great in the snow while driving in Truckee, CA . I was very lucky to purchase the suv from one owner with extra accessories added. If you get into a major accident this family will survive. An extremely large deer just ran across the road after midnight the car stood strong and trampled it. Fortunately it did not slam on my front windshield. No damage underneath. Also, what’s great about the rear differential it is on automatic when it feels like sliding it kicks on automatic. On I-395 a car unknown reason just stop in the middle of the road during the snow season. Drastic maneuver took place instead of a collision or on coming traffic. I move to the side and did a 360 hitting the pole but fortunately my rear differential just kick in which save my life to control the suv. The driver side door and window was damage. The 5.3 liter 4/4 WD suv is built like a tank and not total. I would buy another suv 2001-2006 and look for low miles, rear differential and 4/4 .

Best car i have ever owned
I have owned my Tahoe since new in 2001 and it is by far the best car I have ever owned. After nearly 20 years I have only had to replace the water pump and fan clutch. I have done regular oil changes and replaced the serpentine belt at 100,000 miles. I have used it for the last 10 years primarily to drive up to our cabin on weekends. I usually tow a trailer and it is pretty much up hilll the entire way with a 6000ft elevation change from our home. I pass newer cars all the way up the mountains with no problems. Lots of snow in the winters and no problems blazing a trail all the way to the front door. I'm sure their are not a lot of people looking for a 20 year old suv but if you are thinking about buying one, the 2001 Tahoe is a no-brainer. I have a few other cars but I would take my Tahoe over our 500+hp Range Rover any day. Too bad the wife likes the newer cars but driving up to the snow and mud she says lets take the Tahoe.

One awesome SUV
I just bought my 2001 Chevy Tahoe and I couldn't be happier. I use it to pull my 19 ft boat and I can't even tell that it's behind me. There is no better looking SUV out on the road right now than the Tahoe. Chevy has done an excellent job building this machine. It is rugged like a truck, yet comfortable like a luxury car. I love this vehicle!
Perfect, not a single problem
I have owned several brands of SUV,'95 Montero (a mechanical nightmare), '00 4Runner Ltd-4WD,small inside, metal so thin the hood flapped, '01 Exped EdBauer 4WD (worst gas mileage you could imagine and really poor service from Ford in Nebraska and Florida).I wanted to tell you what I had previously so you have an idea what I'm comparing the Tahoe to.I paid 34000 for an '01 LT 4WD Autoride.I was immediately impressed by the quality of the vehicle.GM has a better finish than the 4Runner.Handling is amazing.First off, it is one of the quickest out there, it posts a zero-60 in 7.6 seconds. The gas mileage is 19.At 75mph the engine is at only 2000 rpms.
Excellent highway vehicle
This is the best car I have ever had, which have included Mercedes, a BMW, a VW, Fords, Toyotas, and an Infinity. 20 mpg on the highway, smooth ride, and no problems in 142,000 miles. Wat it doesn't have in fuel economy, it more than makes up for in reliability.
Great truck, love every minute of it
I'd been shopping for a new truck with my Jimmy lease about to expire when I ran across this one. Purchased GM Certified Used with only 16,000 miles on it. It has never been in for anything other than routine maintenance and I'd recommend this truck to anyone. Never tried any serious offroading in it, but it more than handles the harsh Michigan winters!
Not So Hot
Very poor quality for the price.
Chevy Tahoe
Rear Window no longer works
Fun vehicle and feels big
I bought it used because this one was in new condition, still is. It has most of what I wanted, but this particular vehicle needs traction control aka positraction. It's hard to get started fast from a stop without a lot of wheelspin. I just installed some wider 18" wheels and tires which might help. The gas mileage is poor but no worse than other Tahoe models. We use it for recreation mostly because we didn't really need to buy it. When we have a day off or two that's the car we take on trips. I still like the style better than the 2007 model which looks like the HD Chev PU with a Ford Expedition hanging on the back. Also I like the interior more than the 2007.
Great vehicle NEEDS NEW PASSENGER SEAT.
I have enjoyed my Tahoe and the only problems I have is the passenger seat is very uncomfortable. The drivers and back seat are GREAT. This is the second one I have owned and the front passenger seat was a problem in the first one. I won't buy another one until the problem is fixed. The seat belt is also very uncomfortable and choking.
0 Complaints, I LOVE IT
This is by-far the best SUV I've driven. The ride, power, transmission is perfect. Fun-to-drive, comfortable, 4x4 is great. Stereo was lacking, so i parked it and spent the last 2 months installing a Mcintosh, boston, kicker system and now i cant quit driving it! This one is a keeper.
Gidde up
Since our purchase, our road trips have increased substantialy and our air mileage had decreased. At the end of the day bells and whistles have to be tossed out the window and you have to realize this is a great engine that will take you where you want to go, period...
2001 Tahoe
Overall very impressed. Like the comfort, feel, and diversity the vehicle offers. Ton of room, 4x4 capacity, luxury seating, dual climate control etc....
The best ever made
I Like it! I love it! I can't get enough of this vehicle. It is the best!
Idle problem
I've really enjoyed the features and performance of my Tahoe; however it surges when idling. This summer it would not pull the AC and now it dies sometimes when I turn left. Dealer says it needs "throttle body clean out & reprogrammed - $300+). I'm skepital about paying that. This is the second time this has occurred. First time was under warranty. I've tried different fuel brands and grades. It does seem to run better on premium. Tahoe has 75,000 miles. If this is resolved, all else is satisfactory. Any feedback appreciated.
Tahoe LT
I have had pretty good luck with the vehicle overall. I put on 30,000 miles a year and have had a little problem with the transmission not wanting to catch. I took the vehicle back to the dealership before my warranty expired due to a back window not operating. Bullentin replaced both motors. Loud valve tapping noise in the morning. I also feel thatn the breaks don't work good. I can cause the wheels to squeal when trying to brake quickly. A little rattle in the moon roof and doors.
Great SUV
I first purchased a new Ford explorer with 3rd seat and it was a disaster from the begining, I traded it in for a much safer and sturdier car, my Tahoe! After that my brother and his wife got one as well!
A Wlell Rounded Truck
For a truck, a very comfotable vehicle. I use it to tow, haul payloads, go 4 wheeling on sand and mud, and transport a middle school s basketball team. It has been flawless mechanically and in each of its SUV roles. Only nit-pick is I could use a bit more cargo room, so I'm thinking of moving up to a Suburban.
I Luv My Tahoe
We just bout this Tahoe used a few weeks ago and I LOVE it. We traded in our 97 Monte Carlo for in and WOW what a change. I have never owned a SUV before but now will never go back to a car. It has tons of get up and go for the highway but also is good in town. Love the Auto 4X4. Must be the best ever!
Smooth and Powerfull...but the inside
We have over 35,0000 miles on the truck. Fine power and ride with good fuel economy for its size and the big V8. Interior design needs an update, too much plastic!
I love my Tahoe
I am definitely a Tahoe person for life. It's the perfect vehicle in my opinion. Roomy, comfortable ride, dependable, and very stylish. It's never given me any problems.
Tahoe Z-71
Will Haul anything! Mileage is very good even at altitude. One of the best SUV's I've ever owned
