Limited Drive Time But Very Impressed

I purchased a '14 LT Turbo Hatch 6-spd manual (option not shown) 7" MyLink, fog lights, 16" upgraded rims and rearview camera with the upgraded red crystal color for $16.4k before taxes. While waiting for that vehicle to be delivered, I drove an LT sedan with the 1.8 auto and was impressed. I'm getting 40.4MPG according to the computer on my 46 mile round trip commute in warm temps. I even got to test out the airbags when a woman made an illegal turn in front of me and I hit her going 35 mph. Car performed great in the crash and the headlights were still even intact. I think it's going to be a safe car - very strong steel frame. I'm glad it was just a loaner! UPDATE - 3/16/2017 So I've owned the vehicle for almost three years now, I think I have like 40,000 miles on it. No issues so far. My wife bought a LEAF, so we use that as our primary car now, but mine still gets snow duty (I bought winter tires) and road trips. UPDATE - 4/2/2019 Vehicle is still going strong, have since put on a trailer hitch receiver for a bike rack, tinted the windows slightly, and had some body panel repairs done after I scraped on a wall near a driveway. After repairing those scratches, I feel like it's like a brand new car again. The manual transmission continues to function well, no engine issues, just replacing the oil, wipers, tires, etc. Still getting 38-40MPG average life time. My plan is to keep it for another five years as it is quite pleasant to drive in. I do about 9,000 miles each year - I could see keeping this car around for road trips if I get a second EV for around town. I plan on putting on a roof rack and roof box for summer road trips as well. UPDATE - 9/17/2020 Still have the vehicle and drive it as needed (much less in the pandemic). I keep telling myself that I will get a new car, specifically an electric one, but to be honest my paid for Sonic does everything I need still and is so economical. I have one child now, and the back seat works just fine for a child seat. Will replace the tires soon (still on the original set after 6 years, although 1/3 of the 70k miles were on separate winter tires). My mother drove it for one minute and managed to mess up the manual transmission so it now makes a noise going into third. Last time I let her near a manual car - she had not driven one since the 70's and thought she was up for it. That aside, it's been great and just will not go away or have issues. Still enjoying it!

Has proven to be very reliable.

I’ve been asked to update my review yet again, so here it is. This will likely be my last update as I recently gave my much beloved Sonic to my niece who just moved to the US from France. Still going strong with the original battery after almost ten years and 125,000 miles. Perhaps the difference between Toyota quality and Chevy quality is starting to emerge. Right after I gave it to her, the check engine light came on. Code reflected catalytic converter failure. I paid $200 for a “rejuvenation “ which has kept the light off and won’t worry about it until the next NYS inspection. Because the car was originally sold in New York, it will require a more expensive replacement than a non-California car. Everything else expressed below is still true. I would only hope every car I buy has been as good as theirs modest Chevy. I will greatly miss owning a manual transmission car; it is getting harder and harder to get one. 8.5 years and 117,000 miles, still going strong. It is a shame that GM, and all American makes, have abandoned this segment. I think they accidentally made too good a small cheap car. Front headroom, legroom and trunk space are amazing for this size car; the sedan trunk is the same size as a Camry. Still has original battery, and still original rear brakes and only one replacement of front brakes. Had to recharge air conditioning for the first time despite no leaks being found. I finally had to change my first lightbulb. After 7.5 years and 106,000 miles, I am still a fan. I’ve replaced the front brakes once, the spark plugs and coil (a shop far from home might have broken the coil by accident changing the boots over the plugs when brought there due to very rough running), and had to have the dealer diagnose and repair the airbag light coming on intermittently. They cleaned oxidation off of some of the wiring and no problem since. It still has the original battery and started instantly on a freezing morning after sitting for five weeks. I have a set of four Blizzak snow tires mounted on 15 inch steel wheels and it makes the car perfect for winter use in snow country, where we live now, especially with the manual transmission. Chevy has dropped the manual version, which is a shame. It makes the car fun to drive and the clutch is still original. The sixth gear is very economical (2000 rpm at 67 mph) but you need to downshift to fourth to climb grades on the Interstate. The big trunk in the sedan version still impressed me. Below are previous reviews my me over the last six years. I’m still impressed after 4 years and almost 60k miles. Sorry to hear that GM is dropping it after 2018. Peppy with turbo, great gas mileage, still on original brakes, fun to drive, and plenty of room people and stuff for a subcompact. Below are earlier comments. It has now been three and one half years and almost 50,000 miles. The previous comments continue to be accurate. Reliable, economical, and still fun to drive. No repairs other than the oil leak which was covered under warranty. Brakes still original. Nothing but oil changes and replacing two tires because one was damaged. I’m not sure why it’s not more popular; it’s a very good small car. I love being able to squeeze into small NYC parking spots; the hatchback is more than a foot shorter but the trunk on the sedan is so large and useful. Perfectly comfortable for 2-3 hour highway trips but I have not taken longer ones in the Chevy only because I have a 23 year old S Class Mercedes that is better suited for long distance high speed road trips. But if I didn’t have it, I’m sure the Chevy would be fine. I think a clean used Sonic would be an excellent choice for a teen’s first car; the price of a used one is lower than a comparable Honda. I've owned an. LTZ sedan with the 1.4 turbo and a six-speed manual transmission for two years and more than 30,000 miles. I'm still very impressed. Quite peppy in city driving. We just took a highway ride and ran at speeds up to 80 mph and averaged 39 mpg. Amazing! Very solid ride and quiet with little wind noise. Amazing amount of legroom and headroom for driver and front seat passenger. I'm six-two and had to move the seat up and had tons of headroom. I liked the look of the hatchback better but lower price and huge trunk made me pick ther sedan. We paid less than 18K; I can't think of any car out there to offer this value. Update after two years: we still like the car very much. It has been flawless with one exception; my independent mechanic noticed a very slight leak in the main rear engine seal. It didn't leak enough to have to add any oil. I brought it to the dealer who replaced the seal under warranty but I haven't had it on a lift to see if the problem is solved. For the money paid, it's still a fine value although the trade in value is low compared with other subcompacts.

1.4 turbo LT auto sedan; a good buy, a few niggles

This review is for the 1.4 turbo LT sedan, which isn't offered as an option by Edmunds so I have flagged this in the title. Fun to drive; generally excellent design, one of the few really good touchscreen entertainment systems, excellent on safety, peppy if you get the turbo, a lot of space for the money, larger (but fortunately for parking no longer) than a standard subcompact and the sedan is actually well into the EPA compact category by volume, unusually quiet and smooth for the class. But a number of niggles; front seat comfort issues, awkward stock tuning of engine and transmission, unrefined rear suspension, and appalling stock tires except on the Dusk Edition.

For about the last amost 2 years I was driving a 2013 Hyundai elantra gls that I purchased in the summer of 2012.Recently my car was totaled in a accident and the insurance company didn't give me as much for the car as I had hoped so I searched for another car that would be cheap enough for me to purchase with the insurance funds without me having to put in to much of my own money which brought me to this 2014 chevy sonic.this base model sonic blows away my former elantra which was fully loaded.sonic is much better built,quieter,handles better,and is just simply a better built car and surprisingly has more interior room than elantra.All this for under 16 grand.excelent value...

I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!

I bought a new Chevy Spark and had to take it in for service and was given the Sonic as a rental car to use while my Spark was being worked on. I loved the Sonic so much I went to the dealership the next day to look into buying one. I got the LT model in Dragon Green and it is truly the best car I ever owned. I get compliments on it daily and it is soooo fun to drive. Sadly I was recently rear ended and the 2015 Nissan Sentra that rear ended me was nearly a total loss, both airbags deployed in it and to spite all of that my Sonic proved that all of it safety ratings were exactly if not better than what the claimed. Everyone was so surprised that this little car was so tough but I knew I had chosen it wisely. The damages to my Sonic were under 3k and easily repairable. Oh and the gas mileage in this car is amazing just as good as what I got in the Spark. If you are looking for a sporty fun economical car that still has plenty of room to haul kids and stuff this is your car!

LT Hatchback (1.8L auto): All-around Solid

Value is always going to be determined by the price you can get any given car at, but this is a solid vehicle I'm happy to have ended up in. I bought used, one year old with low mileage. ----- Pro reviews overstate the Sonic's cons. Notably, it has lower fuel economy than other subcompacts but it's also the heaviest subcompact out there at a sturdy 2700+ pounds curb weight. It's still lighter and more fuel efficient than any compact, so it fits right where it belongs. For me, it was the right balance of fuel economy and "doesn't blow off the road from a stiff gust of wind" peace of mind. ----- The cargo space is a bit horizontally-challenged but enough to hold a regular 6-8 sack load of groceries for one or a couple. There's a surplus of vertical space for tall/stacking objects, if you remove the cargo cover, and the back seats flatten for more room. Acceleration is fine at lower speeds, at higher speeds it's a bit sluggish but not really a big deal. Interior is adequate for an economy vehicle without feeling too cheap: Comfortable cloth seating; lots of hard plastics but really thick and sturdy; the so-called "egg carton" economy headliner has a soft dimpled cloth surface, and perhaps a layer of foam beneath it, that masks any cheap feeling to it. ----- There's but a few other minor gripes I have which are mostly just not in line with my preference, or non-issues that take some getting used to, as would be the case when starting to drive any new vehicle. The only legitimate complaints for me are the low-beam headlights feel angled a bit too low, might be an issue if you're navigating unknown territory, and the rear view is fairly narrow which is just a product of the small vehicle size and hatchback. Power-folding side mirrors would be nice, though. The "passenger" door lock is situated on the driver's side of the center console, making it a pain to access when simply reaching in from the passenger side to grab something before re-exiting the vehicle. ----- No major problems, though. The stock tires are supposedly horrible in snow too, so budgeting to replace them might be a good idea up north. (I wasn't about to personally put them to the test.) It accelerates smoothly, handling is responsive, seating is comfortable and decently spacious, general interior construction feels solid. The instrument cluster is compact and all digital, save the analog tachyometer (RPMs), but gives you all necessary information and then some. Safety ratings are top-notch. ----- After driving it for the past three years at this point, and putting roughly another 25k miles on it, the only repairs I've needed was body damage from a minor accident. Everything has held up well so far with regular maintenance.

Best bang for buck!

This car offers a lot for the $. We shopped around for months. Looked at/considered 1. Ford Fiesta-not impressed by performance, very cramped interior, nice front end, but ugly in back, price not that great. 2. VW Golf- nice car over all but felt very bland/cheap on inside and was a bit bland to drive, and more expensive than our Sonic, but with less features. 3. Toyota Corolla- great new design, very bland and not many features for the price, not spacious interior.4. Hyundai Accent 5-door- we really liked this car, but it seemed very soft and conservative in comparison to Sonic. 5. Nissan Versa- it's advertised as the "cheapest" car in America, the aren't lying. It feels/looks

2014 1.4L Turbo 1LT

When I started looking for a commuter car, the sonic wasn't even on my radar. I read the mileage posts and the reviews. Well I happened onto this sonic at a dealer who somehow happened to have 2 of the only turbo 6 speed cars in the state. Yes, 1LT is the model, sedan 1.4L turbo with a 6spd. When I took it out on the freeway and hit 52mpg. I knew the turbo was the car to have. I commute 120 miles round trip each day. Solid 44.3mpg with premium gas at 80mph with A/C on. 52mpg at 50mph and A/C on. The 44.3mpg is normal in this car. 38-41 around town in stop and go traffic. Also I have over 10K on my car since july.

7 major repairs under 50,000 miles

This has the turbo engine, I was not given that selection under “model”.I loved this car for the first 24,000 miles. It looks great, perfect for inner city parking. Gas mileage sucks, around 22mph at best, but so much fun driving the turbo engine. The gear shift lever broke at 24,000 miles. At 24,500 the windshield washer tune came loose in the hood and ruined the under hood liner. No liner replacement but they plugged in the hose to fix it. I have fixed it myself at least 3 more times. I kept smelling coolant at 29,000 miles, but they kept telling me they could find nothing ( 2 days without a car and no rental offered ) At 38,000 my car suddenly overheated, I towed it to the dealer, it was a cracked thermostat housing. Under warranty, no car for 2 days and no rental offered. At 39,500 the air conditioning died and it was out of warranty for that. $400 from my own mechanic. He was very surprised it died to soon. I was too! At just over 44,000 miles, I smelled coolant again. It was time for a new radiator!! Not covered, the dealer wanted $1300. They were surprised it went to quickly, and got me a “deal” from GM to “only” pay $500. The water pump also was bad and replaced under warranty. At 47,000 miles the gear shift lever broke again, I replaced it myself with the help of eBay and YouTube for under $20. Now, at just over 49,000 miles I smell coolant again, take it back to the dealer where they replaced the radiator 6 months before believing it was under warranty from their previous repair, but now it is the coolant recovery tank that is broken and they want another $400 to fix a $47.00 part. They asked GM if they wanted to help me out again, since all this is happening under 50,000 miles, but I got a big NO. I paid $150 for the diagnosis and am taking it to my mechanic and having it done for under $200, so I save at least $50 and have the pleasure of never giving Chevy any more of my money.

Loved the first one so much I bought another one!

The only downside to this car (after putting $150,000 miles onit) is it's small fuel tank. I loved the car enough to buy another one exactly the same. The handling is superb the gas mileage is great. Not as good as they say it is, but good enough. It just has a really sporty Zippy fun-to-drive feel that it's hard to describe until you drive it. Very Euro feeling. Had to have another one. Didn't last 6 months in a Honda. Went back to my Sonic

2014 sonic Only have had the car for 8 months

I bought this car with 20,000 miles under warrenty thank god! This car jerks really bad while it shifts and when you are trying to slow down in rush hour traffic in Atlanta. It has been to the dealership many many times. They tried fixing the problem by changing out the clutches, then a week later the transaxle fell out of place at a stop light, I was an hour away from home near my work. The car could not go anywhere. It just kept rolling backwards. I had to keep my foot on the brake. It wouldn't even work in park, it would still roll backwards. I had to put my emergency brake on and wait for a cop to push my car out of the highway. I had to let my car coast all the way to a restaurant. Then get it towed to my dealer. They fixed my transaxle but it still jerks and feels like it's going to stall. I am in the middle of a legal settlement with GM. Please don't buy this car Update- I traded the car in because it was very unreliable.

OK for what it is

I have some pretty serious gripes about the Sonic, and I don't understand all the glowing reviews of it. The brakes are completely numb for the first inch of pedal travel, then grab all at once. Lift my foot off the accelerator and it maintains speed/revs for four seconds before returning to idle (yes, exactly four seconds - I count every time). The MyLink system sounds terrible, the BringGo nav app is useless, and it forgets what song it was playing on my thumb drive on the next startup. Rear visibility with the gigantic headrests is nonexistent. It gets worse mileage than the 2012 Cruze I traded it for, despite being smaller and lighter, and the average economy readout is 10% optimistic, telling me I'm getting 34 combined when miles divided by gallons comes out to 29. On the other claw - I haven't had to bring it in to the dealer for endless recalls and TSBs like the Cruze, and the trunk is decently sized. I'd say the Sonic is a decent car for someone who didn't grow up driving Detroit iron, and whose expectations are low. Not me, IOW.

Subpar.

The 2014 Chevy Sonic is a good car. It's good on gas, relatively stylish, very dependable. However, it lacks the over 'luster' of a sub-compact car. The transmission is a joke. I'm sure it is set up for economy, but come on Chevy; you can do better than that. The engine lacks power...majorly. The overall interior quality is poor. The seats are awkwardly placed and hard to adjust; especially if you've never been in the car. The interior is covered in flimsy plastic and hardly any soft touch material. But the worst thing about the entire car is how loud it is. Every bit of road and wind noise enters the cabin. Even on smooth pavement, you would think that you are driving on gravel. Update: 11/25/2017 I have since gotten rid of the car. 72,000 miles from December 2013 to June of 2017 and never left me stranded or threw a check engine light. The only fault is the USB Port failed around 65K miles and would no longer work.

2014 LTZ 1.4l turbo hatchback

This car has been good for me in that it is sporty, roomy, and has the power you would expect. The only issue I have is that it is so full of hard plastic even for the highest trim behind the RS, that it seems like a joke. Everything rattles and it gets to be very annoying. I have had this car for about 2 months and being this new, I am considering getting a different car. Come on Chevy, enough with the [non-permissible content removed] interior of your cars and maybe we will regain your trust as something quality that is American made!

sporty fun car-STILL

Very well put together subcompact sedan. Great gas mileage, handles well- some say "jerky" I say responsive. Sporty fun to drive car. *UPDATE* After 3 years of driving the vehicle I still love it! My only real complaint is the lack of spare tire- in Alaska I need a spare not a fix-a-flat kit. The heater works great at -40F and the air conditioner works great at 90! The Sonic is an all around great economy vehicle with good looks. It can take on some big hills without losing a lot of speed (I drive a manual so not sure about the automatic). It can also corner well at high speeds. Well worth the purchase after 3 years. **UPDATE**5 years later I am still driving and loving my Sonic. It has 105,500 miles and I have had it in the shop once for a minor repair- plastic valve cover. Still runs like new! The little car has been all over the State of Alaska- including a trip to Deadhorse on the Dalton highway! *UPDATE* 117,800 miles-6 years and it runs like it did when I bought it. Just routine maintenance and tires so far! *UPDATE* 145,000 miles and still running like new. No big repairs yet, have had to replace a couple of plastic parts that have cracked but not surprised with that since it has to endure big temperature swings from 90+ in the summers to -40 in the winters. The common complaint with this car has been about the acceleration but having a manual transmission has made it a very responsive car that can pass at high speeds without any problems! Still love my little car! Very reliable! **UPDATE**149,700 miles. Still a great car without any huge mechanical issues. The one repetitive issue is with the brakes during the cold winter here in Fairbanks, Alaska. Apparently there is a rubber ring that freezes and therefore can't expand to prevent air in the lines- a couple of pumps and they work just fine. But for the inexperienced driver it could be a very frightening experience. It generally "fixes" itself in late spring when the temps are warming. **UPDATE**160,000 miles and still going strong. No big mechanical issues so far. Replaced shocks/struts/bearings and a transmission mount. Still having an air leak in the right front brake but will be replacing the master cylinder to see if this fixes the issue. The car is still running strong!

Garbage

Just as soon as the 75b000mi warranty ran out is when the problems started. I'm at 110,000mi and I've practically had to rebuild the thing. Replace thermostat and repaired it twice more, replaced the alternator, replaced the radiator fan and motor, 2 valve covers, timing belt and pullies, water pump, mass airflow sensor, o2 sensor, purge valve and hose, throttle and hose, front sway bar kit, and the gearshift broke into pieces after jamming and couldn't take it out of gear or remove the keys. All these ammounted to about $3500 in work so far. All of these (minus the first valve cover) happened between 79,000-110,000mi. Been in the shop 7 times since december 2017. Things just keep breaking.

I still love my 2014 Sonic after 10 months

OK I purchased my Sonic Dec 27,2014 new purchase price out the door with tax tags everything included $12,988 yes I was blowed away at this price I found the car online didn't even even have go in to dealer until I had sign the papers I didn't even test drive the car at this price, I signed and drived and still happy with my Purchase 10 months and 17,600 miles later, oh yeah GM throwed in $3,010 ending year clearance rebate get it at that price, I'm very impressed thank you Chevy.

Small car with big interior

I'm 6'3", and the driver's seat has more headroom than some SUVs I've driven. The trunk is equally spacious, and I was able to move all of my things (except for furniture) no problem. I've primarily used it for longer (3-10 hours) road trips and short (<10 minutes) commutes.

Disappointing Quality

I bought my car new in 2014 and have been disappointed since. The car is always losing coolant. GM says it's normal and topping off coolant during oil changes is normal. On cold damp mornings there is a strange bucking sensation that happens at the first or send stop. It only happens for a few seconds. Then at 49,000 miles a water pump went bad. Now only a few months later the thermostat and water temp sensor has gone bad. It very fun to drive but the reliability has been very disappointing.

Dead at 120K miles

This car was initially rated well and was high quality when I purchased it. Unfortunately, checking back on issues other owners are having, my experience is similar to theirs. I have had the valve seals replaced 3 times at the dealership. They continue to fail at regular intervals. The turbo has failed at 120k miles and in turn, ruined the catalytic converter. I'm looking at a $3K repair bill - the car is only worth $2K, which reflects the fast depreciation of this poorly made engine. It's a shame, the rest of my car looks brand new. The engine is a complete disaster and has been nothing but headaches. I'm very attentive to regular maintenance; so these issues are Chevrolet quality issues. I will never by another GM product after suffering through the 2014 Sonic and 2001 S10. I have an LTZ 1.4 Turbo.

My year with the Chevy Sonic

I didn’t like the car when I bought it. I guess that should have been a sign. Bought it with 63xMiles, Ive added 36x Miles. I’ve had it for almost 2 years and I’ve had to replace the air intake hose. That’s fine, $16 fix. Just recently I’ve had to replace my water pump because it would sporadically spew coolant after I finished driving; leaving puddles under the passenger tire. The engine also has started ticking loudly, I’m about to trade mine in and see what I can find for a midsize sedan. For only have the car less that two years; I’m good. Also it surges forward when you’re sitting idle as well. It shakes when your foot is on the brake peddle because it wants to move forward so bad. I have the hatchback, which somehow is bigger than the sedan. The trunk is nonexistent, it has electrical issues, which I’ve read was common. Little things, the lights on the dash will dim and brighten for no reason. I can’t tell how hot or cold my engine is. The dealership couldn’t even flip through the computerized Menu to find it. The backseat is cramped. It’s a small car. For sure. I honestly don’t recommend this car.

The Chevrolet Sonic is the best in class subcompact family hauler

Like compact cars, subcompact cars seem to have grown in size over the last 30 years. Luckily, driving one is no longer like driving a penalty box. Also, there’s plenty of choice: WRT the Honda Fit/Chevrolet Sonic it is similar to comparing an Accord and Camry. Both vehicles are winners. The Sonic is slightly smoother, roomier, more comfortable. The Fit is slightly more efficient, sprightly, and versatile.

Can Use Improvement

Purchased my car new in 2014. It fit my then situation and lifestyle. I liked the layout and look of the inside and the ability to lay down seats to carry more cargo. After 3-4 months of owning it, the battery exploded and ate through the cables. I live in AZ, and yes it's hot, but no reason a battery should fail THAT fast. Covered under warranty so no biggie. I think started having cosmetic issues : rear view mirror came loose and fell off, left driver mirror became lose, exhaust rattled causing a lot of noise in the rear end, and the tires constantly needed air. I'm a careful driver so we can't blame any of that on driving habits. I also had a fuel sensor replaced about six months into the car, and recently replaced again about 2 months ago. My battery also died again 2 weeks ago, so in 2 years the car has had 3 batteries. I took a trip to the Grand Canyon recently and the car struggled terribly to climb the mountains from Phoenix to Northern AZ. It did not want to shift gears and worked very hard climbing with no acceleration. All in all, I would not purchase this car again for the maintenance issues alone. This car is more so for a teenage driver just starring out, who doesn't drive in hill/mountainous areas (flat land only). The interior is nice and it's fun to drive, but mechanically, very much so on the low end. I do not recommend for people over 6'0 or someone with taller children as I have an 11 year old who is 5'5 and can no longer fit in the backseat.

Chevrolet made a better Golf

Love this car. Have driven this car for over a year. I am 6'2" and have plenty of leg room, it is a subcompact so it is a little narrow. In fact I do not have the driver seat all the way back or I would not be able to push the clutch all the way in. Surprisingly quiet and solid, compliant ride, handles really well. Of course the car gets good fuel mileage, I get 30 smiles per gallon with a mix of city driving around 40 mph. I usually take a long way home because I love driving it so much. I have the RS, version with the manual transmission. First gear is geared so low that it is almost useless and second gear is too high to start from a stop. The car will not win any races but has plenty of pep for me to have fun driving. I bought the car as a Certified Pre Owned, so I suave the remainder of the new car warranty and the rest of the CPO, warranty as well. My local dealer is great, they take care of my concerns with out me feeling like I have to argue. So the RS, version is a little lower, has a sport tuned suspension and exhaust, four wheel disk brakes, leather seating with heated driver and passenger seats along with all the bells and whistles that can come on a Sonic.

if your looking to buy a chevrolet, i would recommed this one. Everything about this car is amazing. i have driven this car for about 3 years now and nothing is wrong with it. its perfect. i have been on so many road trips in this car and it still works like a brand new car. you have emergency assistance and ext. air works amazing. trunk is very very spacious. car its self might seem small on outside but its very spacious.i would totally recommend this car!!!

Great car for the price

I've owned this car for a few weeks now. Initially, I was a little skeptical about the size but I'd driven a Cobalt a number of years prior and really liked it so I decided to give it a test drive. After the test drive, I liked the vehicle so we went ahead and purchased it. I've read from a number of reviews that it doesn't get the same gas mileage as similar cars in it's class. From what I've read that's due to the weight of the vehicle. But to me, that says that more durable materials and equipment are used. When you're getting over 30 mpg city driving I'm okay with sacrificing a few mpg for safety. I was driving a minivan prior to purchasing this vehicle so it's still a great savings in fuel economy. Tonight the car really proved it's worth as I drove home in sleet and freezing rain on roads that had barely been touched by the salt trucks. The Traction Control System and StabiliTrak kicked in a few steps along the way but overall we stayed on track and had very little problem. As a mom travelling with my 5-year old precious cargo safely buckled into a booster seat in the back seat I can't say enough about peace of mind I now have after driving this car on poor roads. The front and back seat are both comfortable and roomy. I love the features of the heated front seats, the remote start, and the infotainment system. We added a portable dvd player to the back seat for my son. I have to say so far I am absolutely loving this car and would recommend it to anyone. Update: six months in and still loving this car.

We were very fortunate to have over $4000 in GM card points that were allowed to be transferred to an immediate family member, so a Chevy or GM product was a definite choice. We looked at several models and the Sonic Sedan was the best choice based on price, safety, features and overall performance. She was able to get a lot of the bells and whistles and still keep the car within her price range.

2014 sonic- a/c and heat

I love my car for the most part. II purchased it June 2014. Right away I noticed that it felt like there was a vent open whenever I used the a/c. When I brought vehicle to dealership to put on license plates I mentioned it to them. They checked things over but couldn't find anything. I brought it back in a couple of more times that summer for same issue. They never could find anything wrong. The computer showed everything working correctly. Then it started to get cold (I live in mn). That's when I noticed the windows foggy up on the inside. Again,couldn't find anything wrong. The snow came and so did the ice on the windows...as I was driving with defroster on. I took pictures and sent to dealership. They finally were able to tell me that GM designed the car this way. They adjusted the vents and that did help a little. I keep a blanket in my car because one side of me (left side by window) freezes and the other side gets too hot. I don't even bother using the a/c as it just pulls hot air in.

There are good and bad things about this car. One good thing about this car is that it's fuel efficient for all driving types. 30+mpg, and an option to add a bigger gas tank for this specific model vehicle. The one bad thing I've noticed when I bought the car is the fact that the dealership that sold me the car, sold me the car with only one key. The place was located in Freehold, NJ. The company was there roughly two years during and after I bought the car, and is now currently owned by another franchise. I was given a "what we owe" paper that tells me that everything that came with the car at the time of sale was in fact given to me, and if not, then the sale would be voided. I had a total loss claim and this was in fact, my first brand new car, and a year later it was stolen from date of purchase. I assumed that with the GAP coverage I had, I could get a vehicle through this new dealership, but they told me that they can't and don't handle the clients of the former dealership that used to own the rights to the cars they also sold. So I'm hunting for a similar model car, and even till this day, certain cars only come with one key. It's a bit suspicious to me because this is considered a feature of the cars and isn't listed as one to allow the consumer to see if the car does or not. This should be added to the Chevy lineup of cars since it's not there and would help to speed up a total loss claim involving thefts, so that there can be no mistakes as to how many keys come with the specific cars sold.

I have one whale of buyers remorse. Seems it wont go away. Maybe Sonic needs to go. Transmission works when it wants to, fails to downshift into lower gear when its needed. The automobile has the worse value for a car with 12 thousand miles on it and new Michelin Pilot tires The roof has been painted, suspension parts have been replaced. Car runs ruff in neautral as well in drive idling, have rectified some of ruff idle I use 93 octane seems to help somewhat also synthetic oil has helped to. Gas mileage is just a couple of MPG than my 2000 Nissan Truck, and the truck you couldn't tell it was running. The Sonic idles like the 4 cylinders of 20 years ago. GM should be shot. Selling such junk

If you prefer the "extras" - camera, navigation, entertainment system - purchase one with it included. Car rides well, has great sound system, great gas mileage, handles well, and the safety features are outstanding! Great first-car for new drivers; adorable for more-seasoned drivers. Very reliable-just keep up basic maintenance. I <3 this car!!!

The process went well I think. The seller devoured a pizza during the paperwork session. Test drive was spirited. The drive home Sonic handled the rainy conditions well. Quarter of the way home we pulled over for gas when we discoved the ignition key would not come out and the left rear tire was slowly losing air. Deihl Chevrolet discovered the gear shifter was faulty and not locking into park properly, not releasing the key. New shifter inatalled. Another local garage inspected the tire, found a piece of metal lodged in tge tread. He was able to fix the tire. Some unexpected expenses straight off on ownership, now the car is a pleasure to drive around. Was it worth 2 round trips from Pittsburgh to Arlington, VA? Yes, the wife is thrilled with it which makes me happy. She loves the Dragon Green color.
