2027 Chevy Silverado EV

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado EV is the all-electric equivalent of the wildly popular Silverado 1500 full-size pickup, though they share very little in common mechanically. The two trucks are about the same size and can tow impressive loads, but that's where the similarities end. The Silverado EV is absurdly powerful and quick and gains an advantage with its unique Multi-Flex Midgate, a removable partition between the cab and bed. After adding new trims and an entry-level battery pack to the Silverado EV lineup last year, we expect Chevy's electric pickup to return largely unchanged for 2027.

Edmunds spotlight: Impressive towing abilities with one big drawback

The Chevrolet Silverado EV is rated to tow loads as heavy as 12,500 pounds, beating rivals by between a few hundred to a few thousand pounds. With up to 775 lb-ft of torque, there's no doubt it'll get up to speed or pass slower traffic with ease, but like every all-electric truck, towing will significantly reduce how far you can pull those trailers. In an Edmunds towing test using a different electric truck, we found that the maximum driving range was cut in half while pulling a flat trailer with a Tesla Model 3 on top (combined weight: just under 7,000 pounds). Good thing, then, that the Silverado EV has a massive optional battery pack that can deliver around 500 miles of driving range when unladen.

Competitors to consider

We currently rank the Rivian R1T as our favorite electric pickup, though it's quite a bit smaller than the Silverado EV. The R1T makes up for it with clever storage solutions and truly impressive performance, though at a higher price. The related GMC Sierra EV is a close second, and it holds an advantage over the Silverado with a nicer interior; it also features a version of the Multi-Flex Midgate. Bringing up the rear, the pricier GMC Hummer EV and Tesla Cybertruck trade utility for novelty.

Most all-electric pickups lean more heavily into style and personality, while the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado EV is more practical and traditionally trucky. If you're looking for something more in line with gas- or diesel-powered trucks, this might be the best pick for you.
