2025 Chevy Silverado 3500HD

When you need to haul big, burly loads that nearly require a commercial driver's license, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is one of your top choices. With a max tow rating of up to 20,000 pounds with its available diesel V8 engine (or up to 18,700 pounds with the standard gas V8), the 3500HD is one of today's most muscular full-size pickups. The 3500HD opens up the option for dual rear wheels, which aren't offered on the 2500HD, but it otherwise shares the same traits with its Silverado counterparts. And with a range of cab and bed configurations, and configurations that run from workhorse basic to ranch boss comfort, the 3500HD seamlessly moves between work and play.

With last year's updates including a more powerful diesel engine, larger touchscreen and a slightly new look, the 3500HD carries over into 2025 largely unchanged. There's a new Trail Boss package, which adds a touch of blackout style with black bumpers, wheels and trim, a spray-in bedliner, and some modest off-road hardware (all-terrain tires, a skid plate). But at nearly 21 feet long and 7 to 8 feet wide, and weighing up to nearly 8,600 pounds, the 3500HD won't be anyone's first pick for off-road adventure. But if you regularly negotiate rough roads, the Trail Boss' extra armor can come in handy. If you're truly determined to take on trails, the optional Z71 package provides a more robust suspension, additional skid plates and hill descent control.

Impressive as the Silverado 3500HD's towing capability is, the Ford F-350 tops it with a rating of up to 28,000 pounds in dual-wheel configuration and a higher-quality interior than the Chevy. And if interior quality is a priority, neither can quite match the near-luxury wood-and-leather standard of the top Ram 3500 trims. The Ram also takes towing capacity to another level, rated at upward of 34,000 pounds with its extra-potent diesel six-cylinder. If you'd prefer a Silverado with just a touch more class, consider its mechanical twin, the GMC Sierra 3500HD.
