Best and first car

I got into a wreck with my 2000 chevy metro the 6th week I owned her. I was driving down a dirt road and hit a deer going around a corner; my metro spun and hit the deer twice. Once up front, once in the back. I spun again and tilted onto my driver side and slid 50ft into the woods and hit TWO trees. When she stood upright my only damage was on my drivers side (Needed new doors which were fixed for $300) I came out of that wreck alive because of how GOOD the Chevy Metro was built. I would recommend this car to any parents looking for a car of their child. A pretty inexpensive car to fix and buy. (Mine was an automatic not a 5 speed but they dont have that option)

I bought this after my 66' mustang got wrecked I wanted something that was cheap on gas so I got this lil Metro hatchback. I got it for $1,900 with 197+ miles. Put new tires on it for 150$ and replaced the EGR valve that was throwing a code and did a basic tune up on it, plugs, wires, filters and sea-foamed it. Runs perfect. I took it on a vacation trip from Reno to Crescent City ca. I was doing 75 the whole way with my boyfriend and 110 German shepherd and 2 duffel bags of stuff. I was getting 50 mpg when I ran Lucas injector cleaner in the gas tank. Comfy seats surprisingly

Low Cost, Reliable Commuter

I average about 45 mpg, commuting on highway, some mountainous road, and some stop&go commuting. I have about 100,000 miles on my 2000 Metro, with no mechanical problems whatsoever. I replace the oil/filter every 5k miles, and have replaced the plugs, the manual transaxle fluid, the brake pads, and the tires once each, every thing else is original. It handles very well under all conditions (except for high winds). Acceleration is not great, especially with air conditioning on, but it's acceptable.

I use my Metro for work throwing newspapers everyday. It's very dependable and gets 32 mpg. The drivers seat springs collapsed and I have to use 3 Sunday newspapers under there so I don't sit on the floor. Also the interior roof liner is sagging, and the cup holder is dangerous as I couldn't put the car into reverse in a quick manner because I had a coffee cup in the holder which blocks the shifter. After I bought the car I had several repairs like a loose spark plug and cv boot and axle. The PNP switch in the trans shifter shorted because previous owner didn't push in the shifter button when changing gears. No problems after that and it has become a reliable car now that I enjoy.

Bought this car new and have been driving for 10 years. This is the most trouble free car I have ever owned. The only thing that has failed on this car has been the a/c compressor at 80k miles. That is using the a/c every day summer and winter since I bought it. I've done regular maintenance and this thing just drives forever. I get 45 mpg and the insurance is really low. I've got 124,000 miles and still runs great!

I've owned a 2000 4-dr Metro for over 2 years and have driven it to/from work plus two Texas-MN cross cross-country trips, one of them the winter with blizzards and all. I am VERY pleased with my Metro. It's not a Lexus, but it cost a bunch less than one too. It's also no Yugo. It gets me from A-B comfortably, is very dependable, good on gas, etc. Every once in a while I wish I had this or that car instead, but then I think of all the cold, hard $$$ I am saving.

For what this car is about, getting from point A to point B it does it, and with little gas. At 6'2" it is not the car for me but for my wife it works fine. Credit card dollars helped reduce the cost of this car to < $6000 new. So, that helped.

Best 500 dollars I have ever spent.

This is a great little commuter car, easily I get 43mpg on the highway (unless it's really windy). Mine has the 3 cylinder 5 speed that puts out I think a little over 50 horsepower but it's okay for the size and weight of the car. I've owned this car for over 6 years and I still get offers around 900 dollars or more (resale value is great). Very cheap and easy to maintain, I spend less than 30 dollars on an oil change. Seats have really held up, only driver side has slight tears, nothing major. Road noise isn't the worst but it also isn't very well insulated. Safety features such as ABS or traction control are non existent but I have dual airbags. 270k miles and still going strong, burns little to no oil at all.

Bought this car used in 2008 with 61K miles. Inspection sticker was from 2003; it hadn't been driven that time. Rusty underneath, but other than that, very fine. Took it off the road for 6 months due to heavy potholes; cost $700 to repair due to being idle (needed brake pads and rotors - I think all 4 wheels). Took tough city streets to work and needed a new rack and pinion ($700). A/C compressor went a year ago, due to having to constantly use the A/C - even in the winter - to get the windshield and side windows defrosted. Other than that, this is a great car and still depended on. You feel the bumps but that's because its a subcompact. Now at 100k miles. Gas mileage about 20 local / 30 highway w/ reg gas w/ auto transmission. Ultimately sent car to junkyard after another 5,000 miles or so because it was summertime and couldn't handle not having a/c. But few years later (in May 2015) bought another one (with 73K miles) -a '98 which has been terrific so far, and was sold in early 2017. That car had an a/c problem but a concerned mechanic replaced this compressor and the whole job was only $400. The '98 actually got about 36 mpg on the highway. The paint was badly faded when I got it. It had been a rental car the first two years and 32K miles, and then driven by an older women in Connecticut for all the intervening years whom had the dealer regularly service it. Sold it because it made me too daring cutting in and out of slow moving traffic. Very good engine. Just bought a Chevy Prizm - same type of car but a little bigger.

Best car for the buck

I bought this car with 69,000 on it and it has 97,000 now. The way the car is performing I would not doubt that it may reach 200,000. Engine is spotless. I heard my pastor's wife say right next to me not knowing it was mine that it was a very quiet car. Made me feel proud. Not to mention getting 53 mpg consistently and a/c still works. I prayed for 2 weeks for a 3 cylinder 5 speed metro at a time when very few were selling them because of fuel prices. I did find some for sale on eBay but did not want to go out of state. Then this car showed up about 2 1/2 miles from my house. The guy said he just showed up with it one hour ago. Paid 2,700. It is just like I wanted but better. Will never sell it!

For someone who needs only basic, no frill transportation, this car served me just fine. This 1800 pound, three cylinder car keeps up with any freeway traffic. With no A/C and equipted with a manual transmission, all of the energy goes to the wheels. The fifth gear overdrive allows me to coast down a hill without touching the gas pedal and provided me with fifty-seven MPG.

ok, ok. So it's small, but probably much bigger that you think. This is a car created specifically for the just out of college, kind of got a job, but it's far away - no family person. When I bought it, I didn't want a cavalier and focuses & echos were brand new (and not available in my area), so this was I got. I love it. My insurance is cheap and all I've had to fix is the air filter.

My car was bought because we were expecting a baby. It was cheep and I liked the way it looked. It isn't too big, but it isn't too small. I am short and have trouble fitting into bigger cars, I fit perfect in this car. And I usually don't have trouble parking.

I purchased this car as my first vehicle slightly after turning 16. We payed close to $5,000 and this car was worth every penny. It was reliable and great on gas. Because of the low price point it was a good learning vehicle. I really did beat the crap out of it, and it kept going like a trooper. I recently wrecked it by rear-ending someone like an idiot and really regret losing the vehicle. (I only had liability) This lead me to write a review about ol' Blue as I called it. RIP, you always got me from point A to point B, you will be missed.

Great little cars. I have owned 5 (five). I drive them an average of 180- 200 miles a day (sw washington to Seattle). A bit noisy but for the 500+ miles I get on a 10 gal tank of gas I'll live with it. I have saved thousands on gas. Easily enough to buy my wife the new Escape hybrid.

1st metro was a '97 w/ 49k. Drove it to 100k, NEVER a problem, not one! A lady smashed into the side of me at full speed, outside driver side door was completely mangled and buckled in, but the inside looked like nothing had happened (great car construction). I was amazed, walked away without a scratch. Car even still ran! Once insurance co settled purchased a 2000 w/ 34k. Have been driving it for 8 months, love these cars!

2nd Metro I've owned and reliability was reason for purchasing again. I had 187000 on first Metro and was on original engine, clutch, and transmission. This one does not get the mileage the first one got and not as peppy either. It is more comfortable and has a/c.

I'm truly impressed!! I bought it about 11/2 years back with 36K miles for $3500. I now have 52K miles, and the car has been ABSOLUTELY trouble free!! I get about 35 to 36 mpg in PURE city driving (and Los Angeles traffic is as bad as it gets) and it has given as high as 47mpg on pure highway stretches at 65mph with the A/C on!! I was incredibly surprised at how comfortable it was inside (at 5'10" I'm not very tall), but nevertheless it truly exceeded my expectations!! The clutch is among the best in the business, and the gear shifting is butter smooth. This is an UNBELIEVABLE VALUE FOR THE MONEY!!

We have a tight driveway that dictates a narrow car. Although we could afford any car, we are quite pleased with our second Metro. We sold our first to a coworker who has logged another 100k on the 3 banger. This new one with the 4 cyl engine has some nice punch. Good head & leg room, nimble, easy on gas. We bought this from a dealer for $6k with 39k miles. So far, no major problems. This is a very good car for the money with Suzuki engineering. A nicely built, tight car.
