bought my 2000 impala ls 3.8 with 75,000, car now has 243,000 i did not expect to still be driving it daily today with virtually no problems. rear strut plates at 210,000 one front wheel baring 175,000, most cars are in the junkyard by now!! HAHA!!!unlike some people i drive the car with the respect of knowing the more its beat on the more its worked on!!! so for oil changes cheep ass oil changed every 3k or so. never touched the trans fluid, last tires got 101,000 out of BUT rotated every 3k or so, goodyear viva 2. i have towed a 3500 lb boat (not very far) class 2 hitch, but very steep hill for short time. and not leaving 1st or 2nd gear, and not hitting the gas like an idiot!!!!

I love our Impala. It's a sporty, yet functional sedan, which is something we were looking for when we had children. Easy to care for and drives great. 4 adults plus a baby seat fit well. Would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, dependable car.

We've owned our 2000 Impala since it was 8 miles old. Now at 291,000 miles, she's been the most reliable vehicle we've every owned. The transmission was rebuilt at 193,000 miles when 1st gear went out from 6 years of stop & go traffic. She's endured 5 car accidents and has kept me safe. We've proudly replaced the radiator, water pump, cv joints and power steering pump. All expected maintenance on a car with high mileage and with the ORIGINAL engine. We'll drive her till the wheels fall off. The Impala is a great car if you care enough to maintain it.

i purchased this car with about 25k on it in march of 01'. I drive about 30k miles a year and really test cars. Normally i got a new car every year. With a well maintained 196,540 on my odometer i am pleased to say other than a new battery, oil, tires, and an air filter, the car has been problem free. My mechanic says the car looks perfect mechanically and should go another 200k. I average 28.5 mpg on the highway but have gotten over 31.

Our 2000 Chevrolet Impala sedan police package served us well just over 201,000 miles. During its time a repair here and there for us began around the 160,000 mile mark. It still has a smooth ride with the original shocks and struts. Received many compliments about the exterior's solid look from people, and they being surprised when asked about the mileage. A one of a kind look and dependable!

Got the Impala as Fleet with 52 miles on it, 98562 miles later the car is still as fun as day one. The steering started to make a clunk sound after 30k but a lil grease fixed it, the air vents are hard to position so that it does not blow right into the drivers face. Fuel economy is something i love, at 30 mpg it gets awesome mileage. the car doesnt make a single squeak or noise. It was a lil noisy on the road noise with the tires that come with the car from the factory, after putting Aquatreds with lower road noise it is alot quieter. This is trully Canadian UAW labor at its best! Love to drive the car.

I bought my Impala from my fathers friend last summer after I received my permit. He was selling this car for $1,500 and i talked him down to $300 in the end. The car had a blown intake manifold (Of course) but that's why it was so cheap. I fixed the problem for only a $75. The car runs great and just added K&N CAI on it and these engines LOVE air. The car has 2 new front quarter panels, needs new resonator and manifold (Has exhaust leak), and resonantly the power steering pump is squealing. I'm only 17 but once i get the money to fix it all she will be great. The car is in 100% great condition and looks new. Illegally I took it down my street, it burns tires real good. Has originally 195k.

Bought our Impala (base model) after I was hit and my 1992 Pontiac Bonneville was totaled. Ride is wonderful. Plenty of room for our family of 5 and can seat 6. I have had toruble with my turning signals ot working properly. We've had the multi-function switch replaced twice and it's now acting up again. Oddly enough, I can some times get the signal to work if I put hazard lights on while the switch is in place for turning. Playing around with it usually can get the signal going again. I wish we had bought the LS model. Our daughter is soon to be driving and she has picked out a 2000 Impala in the LS model. The ride is that good that she passed up the little Mitsubishi Eclipse! Impressive.

Our chevy was a lease which we are buying out. That's how good we like it. The ride is smooth and little exterior noise. It's really a full- size car and can seat a 6 ft 260 lb man comfortably. We purchased the upgraded sound system and it's like having surround in the car. Gas mileage is above average for a full-size car, and our sun roof is heaven in summer time. Only problems were a few loose screws in the beginning - and the dealership was great at service. There's been no knocking like in your other reviews of this car.

I've driven this car to the moon and back. The car has 255,000 miles now. Transmission was replaced at 180000. Never had any major repairs since. The car is just great. Still drives straight, and still has plenty of power. The car has had mobil 1 oil regularly since its first oil change, and that's the difference right there.

When I bought my Impala a few months ago I got a lot of heat about buying a grandma car but when my friends drove it with the 200hp v6 0-60 in under 9 sec. they decided its a nice grandma car. I drive 180 miles per day, and get over 27 mpg cruising at 75mph. When I get out I am not stiff at all. Probably the most comfortable car I've driven. I am 6'4" and have plenty of leg room. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable, roomy car that performs well.

This car is simply amazing! It’s been my every day driver, road trip cruiser and FUN FACT, a camper car! YES! You can camp very comfortably in this car! *A storm destroyed my tent, it was my only back up! Anyways, it’s had 3 batteries since she was new and the regulars like brakes, a water pump, couple a roters, etc. Nothing major with engine/tranny. I DID however replace the manifold gasket at 150,000 miles. Just to be SAFE! A word to the wise though, if you put in an aftermarket stereo, you have to hook the stock one up in the trunk because THAT is what controls a lot of stuff! I didnt know that, so now I’m stuck with all the settings that were “set” when I got the new one put in. Could be worse I guess. Car still runs great as I travel back and forth between two states. 8 hour roadtrips. It’s comfortable and a smooth driving car, STILL! These cars all seem to rust in the same spots, she’s got some dings, the silver color is coming off the wherl covers. Thats a bummer. Cheap to replace them at least! I still do my best to keep her looking good, but being an every day driver for 20 years, countless roadtrips n campouts ;-) and almost 300.000 miles now, I just can’t complain! Lol! I would drive this car through Armagedon! For those wondering about turning this car into an emergency camper: Have both front seats all the way up to the dash, with head rests as far up as they can go. This will give you more floor space in the back to put your cooler. Always carry in the trunk at least 3 black, twin bed top sheets. You will put one over the front seats for privacy, sunblock. Then the others go around the rest of the backseat area, covering all windows. Put the backseat down, throw your sleeping bag on it as a padding/cover. Then you simply put your pillows towards the back of the front seats. Lay down with your legs and part of your torso in the trunk! My friends thought I was crazy until they saw my little set up. What started out as an emergency, became my way of camping many times! Unfortunatly, I’ve gained some weight over the years amd my camping escapades no longer work as well. I get STUCK when I try to roll over! I better lose a few pounds, or get a Tahoe for my camping excursions! Lol!

Dreadful Edmonds? How untrue, I traded my wife's 2004 for a 2010 Ford Taurus SEL, what a Mistake!!!!!-lasted 10 months traded it. No driver legroom, blind spots, Too Big console, bad ergonomics!!! As for the Impala's, 2004 only normal maintenance: Oil changes, tranny fluid at 55K, tires, traded it at 65K miles. 2002 Impala, oil changes, tranny fluid x 2, lubed intermediate shaft-steering, computer for car, tune ups, tires sold at 138k for neighbors daughter. I found with regular maintenance, normal driving these cars last a long time. Solid car with an excellent engine, 3800, good ride, quiet depending on tires, solid performer, and very good on gas. Gas mileage, 18-20 city, 28-30 highway. Traded the lousy Ford for a 2011Buick Lucerne CXL, replaced 2002 with a 2014 Chevy Impala. I normally don't comment on forums, but looking for my daughter a car found a 2000 Impala LS, checked Edmunds for their review, and had to say something. In conclusion, I certainly don't agree with Edmonds on this one!!!

I loved the Impala. Fell in love with the new model when it was released in October of 1999. I was so excited when I purchased my used 2000 model. I have not had anything but problems with it since. If the message center doesn't drive you crazy (which it will) the un- ending repairs will. I have talked with other dealership service areas and they have said they've 'seen Impala's with consistent problems'. I loved my car, right into bankruptcy. Buyer beware.

I've been driving my 2000 Impala for 3 years now and I'm less than satisfied. I've had continuous problems with the Coolant-leaks and sensor related. In cold weather it often barely starts & sounds like it's 10 yrs old instead of 3. Interior is cheap looking. It seems there is always a warning light coming on. Paid 7K less for my wife's Civic which ran for 8 years without any problems. GM has lost me. I'm going back to Honda with my next car.

Bought this used with 25k on it, put 11k on in 3 months. Great engine, good power/torque. Wish the handling were stiffer, but it is more than adequate for the average family sedan purchaser. The car has incredible acceleration at highway speeds. Smoked a Honda Prelude on a deserted stretch of interstate a month or so ago -- he gave up when I hit 115.Get the leather seats--they are more comfortable and make the car look SOOO much nicer. It's not a luxury sport sedan, but it's easily the equal of the Accord, Camry, Taurus.

I bought this car new, and have driven it now 53000 miles. the original Goodyear Eagle tires were noisy, but the replacements (at 40000 miles) are great. Performance is great, interior space is great, and it never has a problem. A few minor glitches were fixed under warranty, and since then it has been trouble free. My other car has over 200,000 miles on it - but I think this one will pass that one easily!

We are very happy with our Impala LS and have had minimal problems with it. Slight rattle after three months, but the dealer fixed and it hasn't been back since. Leather around side air back kept popping off, but fixed by the dealer and problem hasn't returned. After 26 months the altenator shorted out, but was replaced under warranty. The steering wheel was lubed at 27 months for noise. Otherwise no other problems. The car is torch red and receives many compliments from other motorists. Gas mileage is excellent, 17 mpg around town(heavy traffic) and 30 mpg on the highway. The ride is good and the interior and trunk are very roomy.

I would suggest getting the additional warranty. Even though I am satisfied with my Impala,I,along with other consumers, had problems with the transmission and sterring columns. Unfortunately after the warranty(3yr- 36m)had expired. I did put an extreme amount of miles on the 1st two years, so that may been the problem

I bought my Impala June of 1999. I’ve had the car for almost 5 years only very minor problems. About 4 months into having the car my O2 sensor went out. I brought it into the dealership and they fixed it same day no problem. I didn’t have another problem until 3 years later when my front driver side window stopped working. Just needed a new switch. Other than standard maintenance (new rotors and struts on the front after 50,000 miles) I’ve had no problems in 87,000 miles. The mileage includes 3 trips from CA to OK and lots of trips from So Cal to Vegas. One time I made it from L.A. to Vegas in 3 hours doing 100mph on a single tank of gas!

Next creeking noise when turning sharply to left and right. Dealer replaced steering rack, not the probem.Called GM, They told the dealer it was flex in the engine cradle. This is a nice car but suffers from quality problems. I had to replace all 4 rotors 5 times in 100,000 miles due to warping. I also had numerous problems with the steering and shaking. The two things you don't want problems with are steering and braking. GM had no real solution to these problems so I am getting rid of it and buying a Camry. It's unfortunate as this was my first American car I have ever purchased in 30 years and probably my last!!!

I drive for a living to call on many accounts throughout Michigan. I drive in all weather conditions. I have been delighted with the IMPALA. I wanted a car with a comfortable ride, lots of trunk space, engine power and relability. I have only one problem and that is the steering was making a crunching sound. I have had that repaired. All is well. Sometimes the breaks "grab" and make a "jerking" motion. But most of the time there is no problem. I have ordered another one.

My family always drove Fords, I had owned 2 myself before I got my Impala. I love driving it. Handles well, very reliable, great gas mileage(over 29 mpg on highway at 70-75 mph). Large trunk for trips. Best car I have ever owned, and intend to stick with them. Only problem I had, was the radio died, and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, the new radio does not have the auto volumn adjust feature, I really liked it.

I was driving a vic for work and i liked that car, but then i got the cevy and i love it. And talk about fast! The only problem with the car was the headlights, but thats due to it being a police car and having all the goodies in it. I'm so happy i get to take it home with me every night. And best thing about it is no one knows its a police car. Forget ford, i'm stickin with the cevy.

I am a realtor and drive alot of miles with customers. This is a nice automobile to drive in winter with icy, snow packed roads. It holds the road well, imparting a feeling of safety for passengers. It is comfortable; easy to get in and out of. I really like my Impala and am thinking of buying the 2003 model. My only complaint is the road noise.

Overall very good. Upgraded tires (Continental CH-95's) made a significant difference. Have had occasional problems with hesitation while accelerating (improved some after servicing), the radio has become tempermental (reception), and had to have a cracked subframe replaced. A perfectly adequate performer for my needs.

I am sure that the problems that I see in the discussions are "fluke" OR that our state inpections are more rigorous than other state's and, therefore, problems are spotted before they become more expensive. The only thing I've had done is the front disc pads replacement in the 55,000 miles that I have owned this vehicle. I have had nothing but outstanding service from my dealership and I am still amazed at the comfort this Chevrolet provides. I was a former HONDA and TOYOTA fanatic, but now those cars are way overpriced for what you get!

Best car and best car for the money. Has all the bells and whistles of cars costing $10,000 more. Fun, fun, fun to drive. Interior is a little drab and the cruise light on the dash can be distracting at night, but this is the car. Have a ball.
