2027 Chevy Bolt

The Bolt is back, baby! After taking three model years off, Chevy's little electric four-door hatchback returns for a brief return engagement. Yes, brief — Chevrolet has said production will be limited, perhaps lasting until the end of 2028. It's also worth noting that the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is not an all-new car. Effectively, the old Bolt EUV body style has been dragged out of the mothballs and updated with a freshened interior, new technology features, quicker charging, a Tesla-style charge port, and a more efficient electric motor. Chevy has done this while maintaining the Bolt's low price and practical design.

The resurrected 2027 Chevrolet Bolt's new electric motor and revised battery pack help to slightly increase EPA-estimated range — 262 miles compared to the 2023 Bolt EUV's 247 miles. We went even farther than that in our independent Edmunds EV Range Test, going 290 miles on a full charge. But the most significant bonus from the new hardware relates to charging. You can now plug in the Bolt at a public fast-charging station and charge at up to 150 kW. That's unremarkable by current standards but a welcome increase from the old Bolt's 55-kW max. We also like the Bolt's interior makeover that features bigger screens and more storage space for small items. 

Sadly, there are few electric vehicles sold in the United States in the Chevy Bolt's as-new price range of around $30,000. The Nissan Leaf is the closest alternative. Although it can get much pricier than the Bolt, it was completely redesigned last year with a compelling design, sharper driving manners and far more modern EV specs. The Subaru Uncharted starts at a higher price than the other two, but it also has more range, a high-quality cabin and more standard equipment. Chevy's Equinox EV is another viable option should you want a slightly roomier electric vehicle that has a more SUV-like look to it.
